Me and my family love to come here every weekend on Saturdays and sometimes Sundays. On Saturdays they have 2 skating times the 9:30am also has a training class and they teach you how to skate and then you get to free skate till 12pm. There is an afternoon skate too we have only gone to that one once and it was slam packed and we have little kids so we did not stay the whole time because they got overwhelmed but there were 2 birthday parties so it was to be expected. You can rent quad skates here, no inline skates. They do however sell skates here and sometimes they have inlines too, they also have supplies for skates like wheels, laces, tools and more. This is super fun to do with family and friends and the skate floor was redone not too long ago. They also rent out little walker like things to help kids learn to skate and have something to hold on to which has helped my nieces a lot! Had a private party here for my daughters 6th birthday! Staff was nice and answered all my questions. The place was clean! And that says a lot because most skating rinks are dirty and sticky. The rink is big and there is plenty of space. You are allowed outside food. One food item is their policy. That worked out for us because we just did pizza. I like that they open the snack bar even for private parties. My guest really enjoyed her birthday party. It was a huge hit. Highly recommended the private party option. I would come on a regular skate night anytime. read more

Though the skating rink is one of the cleaner nicer rinks we have been to we had a few issues that made it a very unenjoyable outing for our family outing this past Monday (MLKD). The first and most serious being if you are renting skates I would say don't even bother going. Their skates are so old and worn it feels like you're riding on a skinny metal rail and the fabric is so old and worn the actual skate provides no support for your foot or ankle. Mime and my husbands feet were killing us after only being on our skates for 10 minutes. While my husband is more stubborn and decided to wear the uncomfortable skates the whole hour we were there I went and tried to exchange ine for another pair. While at the counter there was another lady exchanging her rentals for another pair because the one she had were not working properly. I exchanged mine for another pair which were a different type of skate (boot) but looked newer so they were a little more sturdy as far as the material goes and there was padding on the bottom which made them a little more comfortable however the left skate pulled hard to the right so I spent the rest of the 35 or 40 minutes we were there overcompensating just to try to skate straight and it made it nearly impossible to turn. This unfortunately was not the only issue. They have little to no railings around the majority of the rink which makes entering and exiting very difficult especially for beginners and intermediate skaters. Lastly though this rink looks very new and doesn't have any bumps or uneven spots like other skating rinks I've been to the rink seem to be almost slick or slippery which made it difficult for my children (who are very good skaters and had their own skates) to skate as fast and well as they normally do. we would definitely never go back to the skating rink unfortunately. read more

I definitely see why people gave it this rating, with this new management it's horrible. We tried to order a slice of pizza they said oh there isn't any because of the party, then I asked if there wasn't any why have it on the menu, they changed their story saying oh you can buy a half of pizza, which made no sense, got a whole pizza. So we tried to order another pizza to make sure we have enough for the kids and now they don't have any more to spare. No refills on drinks, oh and if you don't want ice in your drink they will not fill your cup or pitcher up. The lady is not the nicest when it comes to customer service. Only pleasant One was the nice cashier girl at the food place. This place needs a total makeover and new management again!!! And they only gave five plates for a party of 11 and five cups I wish I could give it zero damn stars read more

Long story short, it was good enough to have fun at. Pros - It is possible to skate here lol -They were willing to accommodate our large party -We were adults and we had some fun... but tons of the kids here had a lot of fun - I didn't interact with the staff, but they seemed cool. Cons - Not a great location.. not near much and at night, the road leading here may not be well lit. (wasn't when we went) - Old and beat up - Probably pricey for it's old and beat up state. If I remember correctly it was ten bucks per person to skate. -Sound system is terrible -Saw some inconsistencies on the floor of the rink which made some inexperienced skaters fall. -Maybe we went on kids night, but there were kids everywhere falling everywhere which skating feel more dangerous than ever before. Being fair, I'm not sure what they could do about this. In all, this place needs renovation, but it looks like the owner(s) just want to 'ride it until the wheels fall off'....yes, pun and all... Similarly to an underwhelming park, If you have kids, this could be an okay place to take them and they will have fun regardless. We came with a group to celebrate a birthday and had a great time. I've been to a few rinks in the RVA area and this is definitely my favorite so far. It was a Tuesday night, so the rink wasn't packed by any means. We brought a group of 34 and we were probably half to two thirds of the crowd. Pros: 1) Friendly staff. Everybody we encountered was nice and helpful. They played our song requests (at other rinks they've ignored our requests). 2) Clean everything. The entrance was clean. The rink and eating area were clean. The bathrooms were clean. This may seem like a basic thing, but for roller rinks, this is huge. Rink bathrooms are notoriously gross, so Chester Skateland's bathroom was a pleasant surprise. 3) Good crowd. The rink was filled mostly with families with younger kids. It had an upbeat, safe atmosphere. Cons: 1) The rink surface was rough. There were a few patches which were worn away and it made skating tricky at times. It could definitely use an update. BUT, considering that that's the only con, it's really not bad. Overall a great experience. I'll definitely be back. read more

Treat you with disrespect you have to have your skates on at all times even if you can't skate. When your sitting at the FOOD area they come up to you yell at you to put your skates on. When you walk back to put your skates on and you sit down when you have an EMPTY drink bottle they come up to you blowing there whistle yelling at you saying PUT YOUR SKATES ON NOW. Reminding you we were in the middle of putting them on!! It was this old man looks like he was in his 70s we need him fired asap!!!!! read more

This is by far the best skating rink in the area! They seem to always have staff working who actually care about the customers safety and overall experience. We got tickets for 2 with 2 free drinks to go here off of Groupon. When we got there, there was this old lady at the door talking to the cashier and she didn't turn around to say anything to us. So we thought she was in line with some kids and my husband gave me a quick peck on the lips. The lady gave us an attitude saying, "ok this is a family business, you guys can go somewhere else to do that." We thought she was joking but she looked dead serious. Then she turned back around to talk to the cashier and we stood there waiting. Then she turned to us and was like, "well?" And we were like "oh, sorry, we thought you were in line." And she says, "no, I'm here to take your money." And she had a smirk on her face like she's trying to make it like a joke but she's serious. She did not have a friendly face, and I believe she was the owner. We didn't appreciate her rudeness but whatever, we were already there. Inside, kids/teens were taking selfies flipping the cameras off and stuff. And I'm just thinking really? She was offended by a married couple giving each other a quick peck on the lips? I can understand if we were making out. Anyway, the drink vouchers were for sodas that were in cups smaller than the small cup at Starbucks. The first pair of skates they gave me had messed up wheels that kept getting caught and stuck on the axle, causing me to trip a lot. I went to let them know so I can get a new pair of skates and figured they would put my broken skates to a side to mark as broken but no... they put it back on the same shelf as all the other skates. Not to mention, I didn't see them disinfecting any of the skates with any type of spray or anything! Everybody's returned skates just go right back on the same shelf. The skating floor was also another safety risk because there were cracks everywhere. I will attach a picture. Besides the place being pretty inexpensive (the most expensive item on the menu was $3 nachos), I suggest you find a different skating rink. read more

Wanted to buy out the building for my sons birthday party. Their website says $300 cash. Ok cool, call to book it and Cindy wants to tell me yea we can't honor what we posted online it's now $350. I was like wtf that's not what y'all are advertising! Also even tho your renting out the building you can only have 40 guests total!! Why rent the whole building if you can only have a small amount of people join??? This use to be the go to place but I refuse to spend another dollar at this shit hole!! read more

At one time, this was probably a fairly nice skating rink. That time was probably the 1980s, and not much has been updated or even maintained since. The rink floor has deteriorated a lot. There are quite a few patches, divots, gouges, and uneven spots. It's still usable; it just looks bad and makes you always a little uneasy. The pair of rental skates my wife used was badly in need of replacement wheels and stoppers, all of which had worn down substantially. Again, they were still usable, but they weren't confidence-inspiring. We didn't try any of the food or drinks from the snack bar, but the limited menu meant that we probably weren't missing much. The men's and women's bathrooms share a common sink area which is out in the open, curiously. The hand dryer (there were no paper towels) worked, but its button hung loosely from the machine. Reinserting it and pressing it did the job, but it has the appearance of a broken machine with no indication that it still functioned. On the positive side, the price was good. We showed up for a public skate on Friday night. For $7 each, we could skate both Friday and Saturday night. Skate rentals for $3 are fair as well. For $0.50, the lockers are a decent size. My wife and I were able to put two pairs of tennis shoes, and our two heavy, winter coats inside. There wasn't an inch to spare, but it did fit. The staff were friendly. The DJ happily took our requests and did a fine job of managing the various games and races throughout the evening. The rink guard had his work cut out for him, whistling down the numerous teenagers and pre-teens which populated the place. I'll hear his whistle in my nightmares for years. Nonetheless, he was effective at keeping the skate safe and orderly. In all, it's fine for kids, but for adults or anyone serious about skating, almost anywhere would be better. read more

Skating rink floors could be fixed better with bad flooring. Music sucks. They either play old school, Or music with different languages. You request different music or songs that never get played. Front desk where you pay is not friendly they speak over you & interrupt. This will be my first & last time going. I only go because their is no other skating rink here. This place is in desperate need of repair. The floor is dangerous. There are divots that are substantial in size. It can make your skates stop suddenly. The carpet outside the skate floor is also torn is several places. The bathroom also needs attention. They really should be ashamed to be open. read more

If I have to be honest this place sucks. The bathrooms are beyond repair and the skates rarely work. All and all the place needs repair and new workers. You can't go to fast without being yelled at and if you go to slow you get yelled at. And the skates will always stop working out of nowhere. This is a place where my friends and I love to hang out at! This is a place where some people's parents drop them off and then pick them up when it closes which is fine but that means there isn't a lot of adult supervision! This old is a lot of fun you can skate (obviously), day food, and have fun! The floor in the skating rink is a little busted but we still have fun. They have charging ports so you can charge your phone and they also have a few games to play. The only thing I don't like is the food place. The drinks are tiny, the food isn't that good, it's somewhat expensive, and the person at the front is not very nice or enthusiastic.
