My 10 year old daughter insisted having her birthday party here because of the AWESOME Skating Rink floor- It is soooo smooth!!!! This rink has been around since I was a kid, so it definetely gives you the traditional skating rink vibe with super fun music, lights, and skating rink games!! Convenient location, plenty of parking, clean facility, and ALL of the staff members were kind, helpful, & awesome! And the party did not disappoint! Wonderful, high-quality skating rink with a great atmosphere! One ding I have is the homophobic experience I had here. A few years ago, my school rented out the place for a fundraiser skate night and it was very fun! Happy to see that they are open for these kinds of events. My boyfriend and I had been skating and engaging in very light PDA (holding hands, sitting next to each other) especially since it was both of our first times skating, and we had only just started dating. All was well until the manager sent an employee to tell us that "we couldn't be touching". I thought it was Covid related, but I was informed soon after that "this was a Christian establishment" and that we would have to distance ourselves. This was before 303 Creative v. Elenis, but regardless, it was undoubtedly humiliating, disrespectful, and homophobic to speak to us like that for something so normal as holding hands. I made it a point to not let that ruin our experience there, because truly it is a great establishment and an overall fun place to skate. But, I post this review for any LGBTQ+ couples to just be mindful that you could be made to feel different and unwelcome if you decide to skate here together. read more

I had my birthday party there.... IT WAS AMAZING. I highly recommended this SK8 Dojo. And one thing the staff is Amazing to.

My very first impression wasn't great when me and my husband first got in. It was a Sunday around 2:30, and it looked like there was probably a kid's birthday party going on, so it was particularly crowded by the skate rental and locker area. This would normally be fine because, after all, it's pretty much what you're signing up for by walking into any family skating rink; however, the crowdedness and chaos seemed just a little more hectic due to the fact that there really isn't much of a seating area to lace up your skates. By the skate rental/locker area is sort of a bay area that is clearly meant to be the spot to lace your skates up. I really wish that this area was bigger and had tables or more benches: there are only four benches in this bay, and just another three on the other side of the rink. Maybe it's nitpicky, but I think most other rinks I've been to have a much larger seating area to allow lots of people to put on their skates without trying to search for real estate on the carpet to lace up. However, I was quicky won over once we started skating. The floor is smooth and kept up well. The whole rink is clean. The staff is friendly. They host games for kids (or anyone who wants to partake) about once an hour. The music is a good mix of modern pop (Walk The Moon, Jay Sean, Camila Cabello) and classic rock like Foreigner. I think I was most impressed by the staff's handling of a young girl who took a fall and was in a lot of tears close to the end of the skate session. I'm sure they deal with incidents just like hers all the time, but they all acted expeditiously and calmly. I could see them making sure to take the girl and her mother seriously. Right away one of the young men on staff stopped skating and went to the girl to see if she was okay; as soon as he ascertained that this was more than a minor bump for the girl to simply walk off, he went to get his manager. Another staff member went to the girl and her mother on the floor to make sure that other skaters didn't get too close and cause further distress. When the manager got to the scene, he had brought over some official-looking forms that he began to fill out. The initial staffer brought the girl a good sized makeshift ice pack with paper towels so she could ice her leg while the manager completed the paperwork. When they were ready to move the girl off of the floor, they helped her onto a rolling office chair and safely moved her from the center of the rink off to the side. It was all handled very tactfully and nicely! Overall, this a very nice local rink--I just wish it was a little bigger! read more

So I took my family and they fell several times and decided it was too hard for them to sk8 at the time we decided to leave after about 45 minutes and the owner saw us leaving and asked what had happened I told him and he gave free passes to try it another day. By all means he didn't need to do it but he did. I will try it again maybe only one kid at a time. read more

Our first and only visit to Sk8 Dojo *so far* (we plan to be back) has been really awesome. We are here for a "private event", which is a PTA fundraiser for Centerville Elementary. We were excited to see that they have a regular family skate schedule as well as many other events - in addition to what seems to be very reasonable pricing - allowing us to return soon and often since we live so close. We planned to eat dinner here hoping to support the PTA, and we decided to get 2 large sodas, 2 small slushes, and one whole cheese pizza. This ran us $29 for dinner, which doesn't seem so bad since the pizza is baked in an actual pizza oven, tasted great, and was plenty enough food for the four of us. The staff has been wonderful to all of the kids, always having 2 people on the floor to help regulate the madness and help up the kids that inevitably crash and fall. The equipment is awesome... everything seems new-ish and very well taken care of. Our family uses roller blades and they do not charge an additional fee (or didn't during our event) for them. Very clean facilities, bathrooms, restaurant area, and even the railings. If I could change something, I'd vote for more space to sit and watch or hang out when you're not skating... but not enough that I would We will definitely be back for family skate... sk8... :) PS - lockers are 50 cents! read more

This place is now called SK8 Dojo. It's behind the McDonalds on Indian River Rd. East. I surprised my friends with a girls' night out here a few months back. The last time any of us had skated was probably back in our elementary school days. We were all a little nervous, but amazingly enough, not one of us fell all night. We had SO much fun! We went on a Friday night, which was packed with middle school aged kids. The owner told us Saturday is a better night for adults to come. I visited Sk8 last weekend. I read all of the reviews online about the three local rinks in Virginia Beach. I drove 1hr and 40mins to visit this rink. Some previous reviews complained about the floor not being in good shape and the skates being worn out. As for the floor, I grew up on a wooden floor and found their floor to be consistent with what I am used too. As for the skates, I also found them to be sufficient for rentals. My only concern was the lack of ankle support not provided by shorter skates. Otherwise, they were fine. I had not been skating for over 15 years until last weekend when I went with my adult son. I HAD A BLAST!!! They staff were friendly and helpful. I can not comment on the other rinks in the area as I have not been there. However, if you are considering visiting one of them, I strongly recommend Sk8 Dojo! read more

I love this skating rink. Been going here since I was a kid. The last time I went skating was when I was on a date. Super cute and romantic. Too bad the guy turned out to be a wack job afterwards lol! Anyhow, my little brother who's 11 went here on New Year's Eve for a skating party from 7pm until 2am. Perfect for parents who still want to go in and don't have a babysitter. Apparently, they keep the kids locked in and don't release them until the parent/gaurdian shows up to get the child so it's pretty safe. He loved it. Went last weekend with my daughter because haygood owner had closed it for "maintenance" (actually he was going to shagfest) so we drove to sk8 dojo...I LOVED it..I'm an old attender of college park skating rink which has been closed for years. Haygood is like a zoo! So many unruly teenagers dropping candy and glow sticks on the skating surface so u are at risk of falling...Sk8 dojo was clean...less crowded and awesome. I prefer old school skate music but bringing your own music on headphones will fix that. I will DEFINITELY be returning..I have found my new skating rink! I def recommend to anyone who prefers the less crazy scene. read more

This was my first time here. The wooden floor took me a little to get used too, and the rink is a little smaller then my old one in Alaska but the place is friendly, nice and clean. This is the Best Family Skating Rink in the area! I have visited this rink numerous times and I love it! They are constantly renovating and improving this facility. They are extremely friendly and kind. My family and I love the floors (brand new), games, bench sitting on the floor, large screen on the skate floor, and the wonderful snacks. This is an extremely safe establishment with workers who care and are watching at all times. If you do fall, they immediately check to ensure you are okay. This place is a great family spot for a Saturday afternoon. I took my 5 and 8 year olds for their first time roller skating. They were both initially overconfident and once the skates were on became instantly terrified. I walked each of them around the rink a couple times in shoes until they thought they could try it alone with the wall's support. They both fell repeatedly and the two young staff offered them help over and over. When they each finally accepted it, they gave them pointers and the manager guy even came over and had them tighten my 5 year old's wheels so he wouldn't fall so much. They were so nice and accommodating and I got to relive my 1980's childhood roller skating. By the end both my kids were asking to return and feeling some mastery over their new skill. We thanked them all as we left and the manager was kind enough to give us some free passes to return. Great experience, great people. read more

We just had my daughters 7th Birthday here today and it was great! From the time I called to book and ask questions to the end helping me load up my car they staff and service were amazing. When I first called the gentlemen I spoke to was very politely and friendly answered all my questions and even provided some good advice for times and such. When they called to confirmed they were also very friendly and provided more assurance about being able to order any and all extras day of when we arrived should we need anything more then we already ordered. When we arrived EVERYONE of the staff helped unload. Our hostess checked in frequently throughout the party and at the end helped me prep and pack everything up to include taking it to the car and help loading. Huge skate floor and large party room! Prices were extremely fair! So friendly! Let me add the place is VERY CLEAN!!! We've been to 3 skating rinks in this area and by far they were the best! This is a hidden gem. Worst skating rink I've been to! The security is so slack and the customer service is dreadful!! I went there on a Saturday night and the experience was far from excellent! I arrived there around 7:30 I went a few laps around the rink and there were children tripping older customers as a practical joke. I could have seriously hurt myself and the child. I told the father of the child and he laughs and says "Oh, he did it on purpose, kids will be kids!" I told the security and he sided along with the father and didn't do much about it but say "I didn't see what happened but you can talk to a manager!" so I did just that. He asked what to do about the situation, I advised him to make sure no one is horse playing on the floor or they will be ejected. He smirked and said "We are a Christian establishment and we believe in giving our costumers a second chance!" but what does that have to do with being safe? I guess they allow violence in the building and they won't be ejected but they will be given a slap on the wrist! I will not dark their doorway again!!! read more

I was told the management has changed here in the last few months, which has turned the service down a notch. It's still a solid skating rink, well kept and pretty standard issue. I used to come here last summer and skate more and they were always extremely friendly and accommodating, and made you want to come back. They would go out of their way to provide good service-- they gave me & my friend some 2 for 1 coupons and asked us to bring other friends in to skate too. Now, you get patted down by security at the door and purses and bags get searched. They really don't seem like they want people in the rink... It's just odd. Two of us were standing by the concession area talking for about 5 minutes at one point, and the manager sent a kid, maybe about 7 or 8 years old, over to tell us we needed to go to the bench area or skate. It was awkward. I'm not sure what happened or what's changed, but it hasn't done them any favors. read more

Yesterday was the first time I'd been to this rink and I have to say, my kids and I were genuinely pleased. We went during their public skate hours with some friends to celebrate their daughter's birthday. The only other rink we've been to in this area is out in Chesapeake, much further from where we live so that alone is a pro for Sk8 Dojo. I really liked that they had benches along one side of the rink and that they played games every hour. I remember playing limbo at the skating rink when I was a kid and this was the first opportunity my children have had to do the same. In comparison to the other rink we've been to, the employees who skate around to make sure everyone is being safe and what not were great. At the other rink, one person in particular stays blowing her whistle. I didn't hear a single whistle while at Sk8 Dojo. That's not to say that they let anything and everything slide. There was a group of teenage girls who on occasion tried to skate five or six wide while holding hands, taking up entirely too much space. They were approached and politely reminded that they couldn't do that, no whistle necessary! I also noticed that anytime a person fell down while skating, they were promptly approached by an employee to ensure they were ok. Rude summarizes this place in one word. They act like they don't need your business. Yes, there is are reasons it isn't as crowded as the other skate centers! They don't let you hold the wall, not even kids.. everyone falls and slams down at this place because of their wierd rules. They have grown men skating around claiming they work there, but who knows! I wouldn't send my kids or teenagers in there for that reason. They don't have the room to sit down & eat you have to stand up and remain in the small corner. No deals available or coupons, costly for a large group. No better then any other rink, although the owners seem to think so. read more

i go skating their all the time. it is a nice atmosphere but mangement id terrible. they are always yelling at you for the littlest thing and wont show you any respect. they also show favortism to people and wont listen to your side of the story if something happens. even though i still go skating to hang with my friends so dont let this influence you going their its a fun place but this is my exprience as a teen going there they of course are much nicer to the adults attending and when they have partys. on the good side its closer, cheaper and less crowed than haygood read more
