4/23/26: I visited for the first time today to watch my daughter take her ice skating lessons. She has been attending classes for awhile. There was a period where they stopped classes because of some issue in the rink & that was a bummer for her, but they are back to it. She loves it. I didn't interact with any staff, so I can't speak on that. Please dress for winter when you go though. I couldn't feel my feet, hands, or nose by the time I left there, and I was wearing a jean jacket and leggings. I know better for next time. There's not much parking available on the side of the building, but there's plenty in the front. It's just a short walk to get to the entrance. I recommend this place for ice skating lessons. My daughter loves her instructor. read more

This year may be my favorite memory of celebrating my child's birthday, all the thanks to skate nation plus for making it such a great experience. one of the better rinks around Richmond.. the bathrooms are absolutely disgusting and some of the staff is extremely rude.. however it fits the typical hockey jock attitude most of these kids have.. one of the skate guards who works there continuously spits in the ice - when confronted he will get aggressive and threaten to kick you out. read more

A pricey outing but lots of fun. Friendly staff and plenty of things to do aside from skating: arcade, cafe, and laser tag. Will return.

We go here often to ice skate and play laser tag. The skating operation is fine. Rental skates are pretty beaten up, but they have skating lessons in small groups for a fair price, about 130 for 8 lessons of 30min each. Skate monitors do a good job, too. The laser tag is another story. The equipment is often broken in some way- guns not firing right, vests not receiving hits, and system not registering any scores are all problems we have had on different visits. In two instances, the staff said they had the same problem earlier that day, but obviously let more people play later. read more

I came with my kids, their friends and dads to do some laser tag fun and burn some time. As we waited the kids wasted money on a bunch of very low reward games. In Vegas, you expect low payout on the main strip but better payouts off strip. While I expected the ticket prize lameness from Dave & Buster because of their great games, here it was just a rip as we waited. Maybe a few hundred points for a small wrapper of chicklets. The games we were playing were fun at first but rapidly became boring. Once everyone figured out to just sit under a base shooting their "flag" the game went to "waste of time". Trying to get scores afterwards completed the lameness. Their PC/connection was way flaky and we gave up. You know when you go to a place that has a very flawed process/system and they don't even try? This was that. They eventually out lasted us. Had my stepson's birthday party here for laser tag. He had such a blast! The staff was sweet and attentive.

I had a blast at this place! If you ever want to reclaim your childhood for a few hours, it's pretty much the place to go. It's very clean inside and they've got ice skating, laser tag, and a small arcade. Last weekend, I took advantage of the ice skating and had the time of my life. I hadn't been for about 6 years, so I was a little rusty (not that I wasn't a completely awkward ice skater in the first place. I was shocked at how expensive it was. I guess they said hey, the movie theaters have gone up 3 dollars + in the past 6 years or so, why can't we? So yea, it's $10 for shoe rental and entry (no discount for bringing your own skates on the weekend). I say, for those of you who are intimidated by the idea of skating on skinny blades, get over it and just go have yourself some fun!! The sooner you take your mind off of it, the sooner you'll be able to enjoy yourself! Public skating Fri and Sat 8:30 - 11:30. Lots of kids and adults, novices and experienced. No one will feel out of place here. I'm docking one star because the ice rink only has one cashier and it takes a while to get the crowds through with just one cashier read more

Review is primarily for the arcade, which is beyond bad. I took 4 kids today, planning for 3 to play laser tag and me and my little one to play the arcade. Unfortunately, we had just missed a laser tag start and we didn't have time to wait for the next. So, I bought $20 in tokens and we played games instead. Most of the games are 4 tokens each, so the coins go really fast. Many of the games are broken, although they were fine giving us the tokens back for those games. At the end, we had like 210 tickets, which gets you nothing. The prizes are so cheap. For 35 tickets, you can get a piece of candy (twizzler, smartie), which probably would take $3 to earn. Maybe we could have traded in for a dollar store prize (which I would have wanted to toss pretty quickly). At the end, we got 2 laffy taffy and 6 mini tootsie rolls. At least they don't clutter the house :) Your best bet is the candy crane for one token. However, I'm never sure if I should actually trust the candy. They have a few driving games, but not a lot of games that fall into the just play a while and have fun games. I would choose D&B any day. Get a buy $20, get $20 free coupon there (email or grocery receipts) and it is loads a fun, plus decent prizes and much cleaner! read more

What a pit. I've been dying to write this review since my daughter started skating but I haven't because I didn't want her to be treated badly. Which is not to say the staff is bad or anything (it's okay, not great... some people are good, some awful). I just didn't want the negative vibes. Anyway, here goes. Read all the way to the end for the positives. It's sad that there's not another ice skating choice unless you go down to Midlothian (it's owned by the same people but seems to not be in such terrible shape). SkateNation is dirty, loud, and in disrepair. The women's bathrooms are always filthy, the faucets either don't turn off or don't work at all, and the stall doors are all banged up from skates. The rink walls desperately need painting. During the holiday show in 2013, the lights cut out half way through the show, and they didn't even turn the heaters on for the stands! The locker rooms are gross and the bathrooms off of the locker rooms are rarely cleaned. The games in the arcade area work shoddily at best. And if your kid does win tickets, be prepared for attitude if you get the wrong cashier and your kid takes time picking out prizes. The parking lot is awful. Full of pot holes. It can't handle the crowd on Learn to Skate nights and people end up parking in the dirt in the median. There's no waiting area for parents who have kids taking classes. And I have been kicked out of the cafe seating area because they "had to set up for a party." I was kicked out at 9 am and the parties start at 1 pm. You couldn't have waited until practice was over? The pro shop is open about 5% of the time. Probably 100% of the time that the hockey people are there, but I'm just speculating. Speaking of hockey, those guys rule the place. They get preferential treatment, for sure. Though this seems to be universal at all rinks. I'm giving Skate Nation two stars as opposed to one only because the Learn to Skate program is run well and has good instructors. Robbie does a great job and is the bright spot at an otherwise dismal place. read more

Had the best team building event here with my job... We did a quick 30 minute staff meeting and then hit the ice skating rink, and some highly competitive lazertag... Yes. I was on the winning team.. We whooped all teams butts and earned bragging rights. One issue about skatenation... Is it possible to turn up the air conditioning inside the lazertag area... Everyone comes outsweating like pigs.. We were all drenched! One other thing, it looks like they removed a bunch of the video games from the arcade area..they put in a bowling alley lane and it takes up too much space.. They need to update their arcade games.. This is a great place to let off some steam.. Had a blast! read more

We were looking for something fun to do on a Sunday afternoon, and ice skating and laser tag won in the vote. The rink was like most other rinks I have been too, except they have nothing to assist children or people new to ice skating. Most rinks will have buckets or chairs, but we were told they don't allow anything on the ice here. It was sad to watch children hugging the walls and parents not being able to enjoy their time together. At $8 a person for 2 hours of public skate and $3 for each skate rental, it's a bit spendy to end up not really having fun. So if you don't know how to skate, it can turn real miserable, real fast. Laser tag was fun. My husband and I were on opposing teams so each group of 11 years olds had the handicap of a slow older person with bad aim. Haha! It was a bit crowded even with only a 10 people playing. There was more bumping into each other than I am used to with most laser tag arenas. It seemed to be a bit too dark combined with too much fog and more obstacles than are necessary for game play. There are lots of arcade games to help pass the time while you're waiting for a laser tag game or killing time before or after public skate. It also looks like it could be an alright place to have a child's birthday party. It may just be expensive. If you participate in Hockey Night in Richmond, you can benefit from free skating and free laser tag, so that's a plus. Guest skate is only $5 not including rentals if you need skates. Overall, this place is nothing special. The employees don't seem to enjoy their jobs much and the location is fairly dirty. It does allow something different to do for an outing with friends or family. Just don't have high expectations and you won't be disappointed. read more

I've been here several times with groups. The staff is good about being quick to get everything sorted and ready to go skating. The ice rink is always reasonably clean and the ice is groomed several times a day. My one gripe is that the arcade games are often broken or malfunctioning. That's pretty important for the group I bring there. When they do work they are pretty expensive. Probably one of the more expensive arcades in the Richmond area. read more

SkateNation "Plus" is a great place for kid's parties, kind of like a more bearable Chucky Cheese's! I don't know why it has only 3 stars (currently). This place offers an arcade room, where if kids win the slightly rigged games, they are awarded with tickets, which can be traded in at the front desk for prises. They also have a snack court and a skating rink. read more

I went to Skate Nation Plus for my niece birthday party. Skate Nation Plus is a cool place especially for kids. Skate Nation Plus has laser tag, arcade, and ice skating. You can win tickets in the arcade and cash them in for prizes.Theres a nice size ice skating rink inside. I wanted to try the ice skating but I knew I didn't stand a chance. I saw some small kids playing hockey. They made ice skating look so easy. I figured rather than embarrass myself, watching was best. Bundle up if you're ice skating. Skate Nation Plus sells standard food like hot dogs, pizza, and nachos. The staff is friendly. Skate Nation Plus is located on the side of the movie theater at Short Pump Mall.Skate Nation Plus is a cool place for fun or ice skating. read more

I took my daughter for her friends birthday party on Sunday. The kids played Lazer Tag and we sat at the bar where the party table was set up ready for them. Decent beer. When the kids had finished laser tag the came and had pizza and then cake and the party host was lovely. I will definitely be going back to try the laser tag out for myself ;) read more

If you're coming here for Laser tag, its spotty in participation but if you are there with a lot of people, it is fun, and the arena inside is nice. The video game area needs an update, bigtime. They need to either decorate, or at least get colorful or dark paint on the walls and games that aren't so beat up, but they have some new ones mixed in. My little one was content playing on the games (the ones which worked) but they really need to work on this place to make it friendly looking. Their ice rink is an average ice rink, the kids enjoy it, when its available and not in a team game. I would love to have a great place to bring kids that is a happier environment, and with a few gallons of paint, and a few new games, they would make it a more fun place for the kids to go. If you're looking just for video games for little kids, chuck-e-cheese is the place. Laser-tag or ice skating, this place will do. read more

This was hands down the worst dining experience I have had in a long time. I have heard several times that the owners of the concession stand is the same as the Capital Ale House which is not even close. In customer service or quality. We ordered two chili dogs, one swiss mushroom burger, one order of curly fries and tater tots. The burger was dry and the dogs so soggy I did't eat with the buns. We were told 15 min and it was 45 minutes...then when I asked for a refill she said company policy no free refills ! After waiting 45 minutes for two dogs and burger you'd think a refill would be in order or maybe a dessert. I though I inadvertently ordered a three course meal. The cashier did her best as she was also bartender and cook. They really need to get her some help...four times employees went behind the counter I was thinking finally she will get help...nope they got free drinks and left. I guess that is why customers can't get a refill after waiting 45 minutes to subsidize free drinks for the employees! We are in a hockey leagues that plays at skate nation, we will stick to packing a cooler! read more

Had my son's 9th birthday party there today playing laser tag. We arrived early and were greeted by our host. He seemed eager to help us, however, he kept disappearing leaving long spells without being seen. The party area was very dark leaving it very difficult to take pictures. Our group went in to play their laser tag missions and I eagerly awaited for them to return to the party area. Sadly my son came out in tears. For over half of the time his laser gun did not work! They attempted to fix it however he did not get to play most of one mission and missed out on the last mission altogether. We paid a lot of money to have his party there for him to be able to play with his friends. I was very disappointed in their response to try to remedy the situation. In the end we got a small discount. We will not be returning and will not recommend this as a party spot. read more

Took a group of teenagers sat for the haunted laser tag called the day before was told it was 8.00 per person and it started at 7pm when we got there we were told they were not doing it that night and it would be 12.00 when on the counter they had flyers saying every sat night in October 8.00 after 7 pm when I ask about the price was told rudely they weren't doing it that night it was a last min change So not only did I drive a hour and 15 mins not to play haunted laser tag but was charged more and talk to rudely by a teenager think twice people read more

This review is all about customer service. Its spring break and a few moms and I decide to take the kids for laser tag on this chilly rainy day. I was the organizer and called prior and asked all the right questions. Based on what I was told we decided to arrive at 6pm. We get there and turns out due to a few new employees, I was misinformed about the laser tag hours. The last game played at 5:15 and was shut down for that day. Imagine the flood of dissapointment we all felt. Next thing I know we are called over to the cashier desk and told they will boot up the system so we can play! Just for us!! Ten players total were able to play that day. I thought it was an awesome move on Skate Nation's part to accomodate us like that. The kids had an awesome time as there was a couple that had not played before. I couldnt thank them enough. I dont know of many business that would have been willing to do that. read more

Staff was rude, irresponsible and incompetent -- They shouldn't be working in a place that caters mainly to kids. I went there to play Laser Tag with my 7-year old son and our friends. Since there were only 4 of us, we played with other people we didn't know. During the start of the game, my son got scared when he couldn't find me or our friends, so he was let out of the laser tag room by one of the workers. He sat outside the laser tag area for ~30 minutes by himself with no supervision. None of the workers found anything wrong with allowing a 7-year old to roam around a public place on his own. Since we were on different teams, I didn't know anyone let him leave until the game ended. The 2 incompetent rude teenaged boys didn't think to page the adult that he went in there with or to ask him where his adult guardian was -- they just set him free to do whatever. When I asked them about it, they were rude, disrespectful and nasty and told me it's not their job to watch my kid and that if he was scared of laser tag, then he shouldn't be playing it. I don't think I've ever experienced such obnoxious and rude behavior by workers who should be concerned with customer experience. When I explained there were several better ways they could handle a situation like that in the future to keep kids safe, they just said it's not their problem to worry about. I eventually spoke with a manager who sort of half apologized while making excuses for the 2 incompetent teenagers. She gave me a refund for my son's game and 2 free passes to return. I doubt I'll consider returning until they put a little more focus on safety protocols and customer experience. read more
