This place was tiny--surely, they wouldn't carry everything we needed?! OH, BUT THEY DID. My friend and I were undertaking a painting project, and they were able to help us find all of the right items, as well as offer up some great advice. It was more expensive than Home Depot, but we were happy to support a local small business! read more

Super convenient and they have more than you would think, only compliant is the staff. Most are helpful and knowledgeable, but stay away from the guy with dreadlocks unless you like getting treated rudely. He needs to get off the stool behind the counter and learn some customer service. read more

These guys are friendly, knowledgeable, and accessible. I really only come here for balcony sized gardening supplies, but they set me up with the right potting soils, fertilizers, and good advice. I can't compare pricing, not having been to home depot or the like in years, but they seemed quite reasonable to me. read more

I am not a very handy person at all, but lucky for me, the folks at Cherrydale Hardware have my back. They listen to me explain my problem/task to be performed/whatever and I can always trust them to recommend the most effective, least expensive tools or materials for the job. read more

Forget the strip malls! Cherrydale Hardware has it all. Plus, the service is outstanding. I especially love the Christmas shop, where I found a great selection of the decorations for both the exterior and inside the house. read more

Super helpful staff!! I felt like all my questions were addressed and that I was treated like a customer should truly be treated. They took time to make sure I understood ( I'm not handy by any means) but didn't make me feel stupid either haha read more

Cherrydale Hardware Arlington VA had every hardware, landscaping and paint item I needed, Including a souped-up, friction big-wheel toy race car (in purple) for my 4 year old nephew! Friendly, knowledgeable staff and store manager. Reasonable prices and extra helpful to customers. Recommend Cherrydale Hardware without reservation! read more

Really great service and honest folks. I had a couple of repairs for which I needed specific tools and supplies. The person who's helped me (didn't get his name) actually told me of some DIY tricks so I didn't have to purchase a hacksaw and other products. I ended up purchasing some over-the-counter products, but I greatly appreciated the integrity and helpfulness of this individual. For his great customer service and honesty, I highly recommend this store. read more

These guys are only four blocks from my home so it is real easy to walk over to see if they have what I need. It is a neighborhood hardware store with a lot of helpful staff who can generally answer the various questions that I pose to them. Given the size of the store, their prices are sometimes higher than the box stores but they are convenient and a lot more helpful than other hardware stores. read more

This is your quintessential hardware store - the amount of stuff in here is really astounding. My dad - a self-styled handyman - was really impressed with this place when he came down to help me make a few improvements to my apartment. We walked in with a list (grout! mini cleat! twine! something that destroys mold!) and we had everything in hand and were out the door in 10 minutes. I've also had keys made here and had my knives sent out to be sharpened - both came out fine. Staff is really great and knowledgeable, and prices are reasonable. Do yourself a favor and check this place out first before you trek out to Home Depot and get lost in one of their 70 aisles. read more

Hands down, Cherrydale Hardware is the best hardware store in the area. It's no wonder it's a local institution. Every time we walk in, we're greeted by one - if not several - KNOWLEGEABLE staff. Rarely have we been unable to find what we're looking for there. When we havent, they know exactly where we can go to get it. In terms of hardware and paint, it is a night and day experience from going to a Home Depot or Lowes. read more

Love that it's a local hardware store BUT they also have anything you may need, the service is great, and the quality of the garden stuff I got from them far outlasts that of other stores. As long as I'm in the area this is the first place I'm gonna go to get anything home or garden related. read more

What most other places don't have in stock, Cherrydale Hardware does. That is the magic of this place. I have hit Home Despot, and another local hardware store in Arlington, looking for a simple but rarer part, and there it is at CdH. The staff is pretty good at pointing you in the right direction, and the prices are often times more than reasonable. Yet again, the big bonus is that its not Big Box and you supporting a local business that has been around as long as I have lived in Arlington... which is 40 year and counting. If you are nearby on a mission, make this your next stop, just excuse the tight quarters. I think I'll head there today... read more

The staff here is super helpful and they have a surprising amount of stuff in what looks like a little shop from the outside. And their prices are competitive enough that most of the time it's not worth the drive over to Home Depot when I can just walk over to Cherrydale Hardware. read more

I love this place. They have reasonable prices and probably the most helpful, friendly staff of any hardware store I've ever been to.

Great place. Always found what was looking for there. Great people too. This is type of tore ace stole idea from.

While Cherrydale is no longer in my 'hood, I go out of my way to continue to shop there because they go out of their way to help every customer who walks in the door. It looks small, but they have always had what I need to do most home repairs- without the lines, hassles and frustration of larger hardware stores. Give them a try- you'll will not be disappointed. read more

New to the 'hood so stopped by to pick up some supplies - they are SUPER friendly. As soon as I walked in they helped me out. I love that when you walk in they help you find stuff b/c it's a cramped store with lots of things you'd never know they have. For items they didn't have they told me where to go and how to get there. Happy to have a great neighborhood hardware store as a new home owner! read more

I've come here sporadically for several years and the service has always been great. They don't have as many items as Home Depot, but the items they do carry are high quality and I always feel like I'm treated as a friend. Recently I came to copy a couple of keys and to get a few pegs for an extra bookshelf. They copied the keys quickly and efficiently and showed me the various types and sizes of shelf pegs. I would highly recommend shopping here for any hardware needs! read more

Expert help and had just what I needed. This is no Home Depot...thank you.

I've lived in Cherrydale for 10 years. This is what happens when you enter the store. You are greeted by staff member, who asks what you need, walks you over to the item and answers any questions you may have. You are in and out of the store in under 10 minutes, usually less. They have almost everything the big box stores have, and the prices are comparable. The selection is also comparable. Cherrydale Hardware is the best hardware store in the area. McLean Hardware is quite similar, but not as convenient (for me). Both Cherrydale and McLean are great stores. ACE hardware is still leaps and bounds above box stores, but the staff aren't as helpful as Cherrydale. That being said, Lowes is an ok store, but I'd rather sell my children to Gypsies then enter a Home Depot. read more

Old-time hardware store. Good for paints, stains and varnishes too. Staff is young which hurts their knowledge. They don't know how to fix stuff, but they know their inventory well. And there is a whack of helpers in the store at any time. They have a great assortment of loose screws, I mean the real metal ones. OK garden section. I live near this store, so my progression is: 1) try Cherrydale H/W, if not then 2) Try Bill's H/W on Buchanan (at Glebe & Lee Hwy), then 3) try Ayers in Westover on Washington Blvd, and 4) finally as a last resort go to Homeless Depot at 7-Corners For Garden stuff, I go to Bill's first. read more

If you live in Arlington, this place is a great alternative to the big box building supply stores (e.g., Home Depot). No lines, reasonable prices and hardware that I can't usually find anywhere else I can find here. read more

Called to find out if they had a 12 x 5 HVAC register. The guy answering asked me,"Do I mean a thermostat?" Me: "No, a register that goes on the wall and regulates the heat from the vent." Guy: "Is it called by something else?" Me: (????) No that is the word I know it as. Guy: " We call it a vent." Me: "Register is a correct name also." That is what I know it by also. Guy: We don't carry that size." Plus: Guy: In a snotty voice, "Sorry to inconvenience you." Customer service is NOT their forte. Ooops: Just in case the guy who answered the phone doesn't know the definition of Forte: a thing at which someone excels. read more

I was in the market to buy my mom an electric drill for her birthday and was unsure what kind to get her. She's been doing a lot of repairs in her house, and while I trust in her completely with tools, her skill with power tools worried me a bit. We went to Cherrydale to gain more the just the product, we needed insight into how to make the drill work with the particular projects she was planning. The manager was available to help us discuss the particular drill we were looking for that day. At other hardware stores, I worried that salesmen/women would pretend to listen to my mother and then attempt to make us purchase the most expensive type of drill with multiple bells and whistles that she would have no need of in the future. The manager of Cherrydale, however, listened to her ideas, gave her excellent advice on how to achieve her plans, and helped her pick out a less expensive drill. He even helped with figuring how to use it. Cherrydale is an excellent hardware store, and I definitely intend to visit it first and most likely last whenever I am in need of tools or supplies for a project. read more

Gee, I'm sorry I stopped in their FIFTEEN minutes before closing. You aren't the only d'bags who have had to work retail. Get it together kids. This is the third time I've gotten a bad attitude in 6 trips there. I'll keep trying, because I live around here too you know, but I'm starting to think it is simple discrimination. read more

A couple of days ago I purchased 8 light bulbs (the designer pink kind) from Cherrydale Hardware. I always get them there because they are hard to find. One of them was defective and I returned it today and asked if I could have another. The young man helping me said he would need to ask the mgr. When he returned, he said he was sorry, the manager said no replacement. These bulbs are expensive - it did not work and I am very surprised that the manager feels this way. I will not return to Cherrydale Hardware for anything - very bad customer service. read more

Today i had an experience that I will never forget at this hardware store, and I will make sure the neighbors that visit this place know the people they are dealing with. As a 12 year customer of this store, today I went to purchase a few more washers for my childrens' treehouse. I handed the heavy-set African American employee $5 for a $4.35 purchase, and he threw my change on the counter so it splashed everywhere. I was in total shock and asked him why he did that. He accused me of not directly handing him the $5 bill. I could not understand this behavior and requested that he hand me my change properly. He refused. Then the thin young medium height employee with a goatie walked up and stared at me. I asked why the other guy would do such a thing, and he said that I should not have dropped my $5 bill. At this point I requested to speak to the manager, and he continued to simply stare at me. I picked up the change myself, and the African American employee mocked me that I left a quarter and my receipt on the table. I picked up the quarter and left the receipt, at which point he mocked me again, so I tossed the receipt at him. He threated me. I went back after scheduling a meeting with the manage via phone. the manager apologized, but said nothing to the two employees. Basically there is no authority over these bums that work at this store. read more

The best of the best -- every time I go in there I need one small thing and yet somehow I also need a lot of help. The latest was the tiny missing screw from my keychain. The staff is superbly kind and knowledgable. They found the almost-right size screw and cut it down to be, as Goldilock says, just right. The kind clerk spent about 15 min helping me and yet the charge at the end was just the nineteen cents for the screw. Even with tax, I got change from a quarter. The level of service and courtesy -- priceless. read more

CFL's or LED's? Acrylic or latex? Rye or fescue? No worries, they have you covered. Extremely helpful staff and great selection given its size. All in all, it's an awesome hardware store! read more

They have what you need for 99% of the issues that will come up around the house and a knowledgeable staff that is eager to assist. What they don't have are the lines, traffic, and parking hassles of Seven Corners. Why go anywhere else? Also, their key copies actually work as well as your originals. read more

I love to support small businesses! There is always someone to help you as soon as you walk in the door. (Unlike Home Depot, where you have to track someone down). The staff is very helpful and courteous and I usually find what I need. It is so much saner to come here than Lowes or Home Depot. read more

Had to get some keys made. Tried Home Depot. Their copies didn't work. Might have been the fact that they don't have a wire brush wheel to remove burrs. Tried a hardware store just off of Lee Highway west of N. Glebe. Their key copies didn't work. Alas! The keys made at Cherrydale Hardware do work! Service is incredible. What an incredible staff! While I waited for the keys to be made, every customer that came in the door was assisted within a half minute or less. Incredible! read more

I am a female who is not particularly interested in home repairs, but sometimes I like to find home-improvement projects just so I can go to Cherrydale hardware. They are sooo nice and it seems there is a 5:1 ratio of helpful employees to customers. For a teeny tiny store, they somehow manage to carry things that I have not been able to find at Home Depot. I was having an issue with my el-cheapo builder's grade shower door handle falling off, and they were able to help me come up with a creative solution rather than having to order a whole new door. read more

Go here before you try the big box stores. They actually have people ready to help you find what you need as soon as you walk in. I've never had a bad experience there. And it's great to support a local store. read more

Every time I go into Cherrydale they always have what I am looking for. The guys working there know where pretty much everything in the store is when you walk in. I was looking for a spigot for a project and went to Home Depot, they had 20 of one kind. Went to Cherrydale and they had maybe 10 varieties. Took me a few trips like this to recognize how great Cherrydale is. Can't go wrong here. read more

These are the folks in the know. They have it in selection, excellent service, and a fine local neighborhood business! I urge folks to support them whenever possible! read more

I had great support at Cherrydale Hardware the other day. I ran in to the store to buy a small item and my car battery happened to die while I was in the store. Alex helped me do some troubleshooting, clean out the connectors and try to get things working until I ultimately had to take the battery to get replaced. The service was above and beyond, and very much appreciated. Thanks! read more

This place always has what I'm looking for as far as hardware goes. Maybe they can't compete with Home Depot for lumber, but they more than make up for it in doo-hickies and charm. read more

This small but convenient hardware store has served all my hardware needs since I moved to north Arlington in 1986. I highly recommend Cherrydale Hardware for your hardware needs (and keys!). read more
