Wanted to stop in, in person because I used to have better experiences ordering in person compared to online. They must have not updated their online menu because I checked before I left & the TCS Hero I wanted was $13 & change. Went in to have it come to over $16 with tax. I always ask for a receipt which I'm glad I did because after my card went through I was told to wait. What I wasn't told (& found out from the receipt) was that my hero came with a free bottle of Poland spring, or can of soda or Arizona. They definitely don't fill their sandwiches like they used to because each half only had one cutlet, I could have spent the same amount at the store for ingredients & had a few days worth of the same sandwich. Have been coming here for years & will NEVER be back. The staff was insanely rude, and when I came in there was no else there but I stood at the counter being ignored for literally over ten minutes. I was about to walk out when someone finally asked to take my order... their prices have gotten INSANE, and the food quantity and quality is now horrible. $17 for a hero that has ONE chicken cutlet (and they're not even chicken cutlets anymore, they are like - those gross frozen patties. It looks like a BK chicken sandwich) on the entire sandwich and two pieces of bacon. What an absolute joke. My sandwich is, also, supposed to come with a free water, can of soda, or Arizona - which I saw on my receipt when I checked it on my way home that I was charged for. Nice little deli for you to get food 24 hours a day. The staff was really nice & the inside reminded me of my childhood. They have all of the old classics like oatmeal creme pies, honey buns, Barnum animal crackers, granny cookies, crunch bar ice creme, etc. It's pretty much your local corner store but with some nice breakfast and lunch options to go along with it. My favorite was the bullet hero, very well prepared & the sandwiches are pretty big so you only need one. I came here twice to try out different things & I must say the heros are probably the best thing you can order. The Verizon fios was tasty but not as good as the bullet. The couch fries were just ok, nothing special & the steak egg & cheese wrap wasn't really good. Usually I love French toast but here the pancakes are a lot better so just go with them. Ordered a z-zoo hero, a bullet hero & some fries for pick up through ubereats. It was my first time at this location because I had only been to the whitestone location before. Both sandwiches were unfortunately kind of dry & salty, and for anyone ordering through a third party app, I dont think they read the notes because I had asked for extra sauce on the side and didnt receive any. Not sure how the fries were because my friend had ordered it but he seemed happy with them. Overall sandwiches were ok, but a little disappointing. This place is a hit or miss. To be honest it hasn't been the same since the mid 2000's. The last time I came I asked for a spicy chicken parm and to my surprise it was a plain chicken cutlet no marinara no cheese ... fast forward to today approximately 5 months later I order the same thing , only negative is they used regular chicken cutlet..... After waiting for what feels like an eternity to experience this famous 24/7 Deli dishing out signature Sammie's and Subs, I scurried on down with my Fellow Yelp family member Brandon.L at the butt crack of dawn , prior to departing New York for a weekend getaway. There were a few stragglers here and there coming and going with plastic bags full of Sammie's. I stood in front of the menu that resembled a Dictionary of Varieties of sandwiches named after quirky people... places.... and weird things ! Like a " Waffle Couch". I kept it simple. I chose from the Deli counter menu. I chose the "Cali" which was described as chicken cutlet, Mozzarella cheese, Roasted Red Peppers, Avocado and Balsamic Vinegar and Oil. I ordered a basic ham and cheese for my daughter and B.L.T had a classic Roast Beef Sammy. We grabbed some other goodies... classic Ol School Famous Amos cookies and some Spicy Doritos and the most disgusting Snapple creation "Go Bananas". ( Brandon has no tastebuds clearly). The young man at the counter was polite and very courteous to customers strolling in at 4:00 am. There were 2 cooks at the grill. Our orders took about 10 minutes. We got in the car and much to my surprise no avocado on my sandwich. Just chicken. Peppers and balsamic vinegar. I was disappointed. The cutlet was crisp but now I'm left to ingest an incomplete sandwich my tastebuds were longing for. Maybe the cooks were tired ? Maybe they forgot the recipe on this new menu item? Maybe they don't give a damn ? Probably don't have a reason to return unless I locked myself out of my apartment at 4:00 am after getting drunk and was starving ....I'd still go to White Castle. Had to update this review, because let's be real... Cherry Valley is a life saver during those late nights! Also, it's my #1 Uber eats choice. I had a lengthy conversation with one of the cooks who told me that they actually do chop the meat with the cheese (hence: chopped cheese) but sometimes during busy times, it becomes hard for them to do this because of the mess it leaves on the grill. But if you make sure to request that your meat and cheese is chopped they would definitely do it lol. So just remember, if ordering a chopped cheese, make sure you ask for it to be chopped LOL read more
