My order was kung pao chicken, and I requested no veggies. the staff was happy to customize. White rice came with the order. I don't particularly like "battered" Chicken but I didn't realized that's the way it was cooked. The food was hot and cooked to order. The chicken sat on top of a bed of seasoned rice( so it was a bit deceiving on the quantity). So there was 2 scoops of white rice as well as 2 scoops of seasoned rice. We've done pick up from here and it's been pretty good. My husband likes their Saigon noodles and I usually get their orange chicken. Recommend both these dishes. However today I decided to try their cashew chicken. That is a no for me. One of the reasons I like cashew chicken( besides the cashews in it!) is because normally it's a healthier choice. Not theirs! Why is the chicken breaded??? You can throw in a bunch of veggies of course. It has mushrooms (that's a yuck for me. I feed them to my husband), carrots and celery. Ok healthy veggies. The brown sauce is good. But why bread and fry the chicken!?! Why not pieces of naked chicken that have been cooked in the pan(or the oven) to keep this dish healthier? The breaded chicken was a turn off for me. I don't think it really goes with the brown sauce. I will not order cashew chicken from here again. I'm sticking to the orange chicken. If I have to choose between 2 not as healthy choices I'm gonna go for the orange chicken here. Just not my thing. If you like all these things I've described than go for the cashew chicken. We have been going to Chen's Garden for years and it is still one of our main picks in Leesburg for fresh, fast, good and affordable Chinese. They are always very nice when on the phone ordering and during pick-up. If they say 10 minutes they mean 10 minutes. It's a small place that is made for picking up or delivery, not really dine in. It's always very clean and I love they have a sauce/utensil station so you can grab as much as you need (I love Chinese mustard and glad I can grab a few extras). Our go to's are General Tso's chicken, combo fried rice and Kung Pao Chicken (next level move: ask for peanuts on side so you can add them when you get home or once its delivered, so they don't get soggy). We are so happy this little place is still here and we will continue to support them. read more

As a family we have a certain consistent menu for every Chinese restaurant. Chen's is as good as most. We order steamed meat dumplings, Combination Fried Rice, Sesame Chicken, Chicken Lo Mein and Crab Rangoon. All very good. They are also very fast. read more

We eat at Chen's about once a month and the food is always great. On April 3rd, my son and I stopped in and found that the men's room was out of soap. We asked an employee about it, and he said he knew. We were unable to wash our hands before eating, and we were forced to make do with hand sanitizer. After we finished eating, the men's room still had no soap. I mentioned this to the young woman at the cash register, and she sarcastically said she wasn't a man, so she wouldn't know. I could only take her word that she was, in fact, a lady as she was definitely homely enough to have been a short fat man. Rudeness begets rudeness. Spring Rolls were horrible, spring rolls are supposed to be crunchy on the outside with veggies on the inside these were soggy with a mushy yucky filling, I ordered 2 and took one bite and threw them away. I also ordered Orange Beef, Orange Beef is also a little crispy on the outside, this was a soggy mess as well the inside did not look like any Beef or meat I have ever seen, also threw away. First time ordering from here on Saturday. Everything looked great but overall it was disappointing. Starting with the best items, egg rolls and sweet and sour chicken were great. I see why there's so many pictures of the sweet snd sour chicken on here, its really good. The egg rolls were also amazing too. The disappointment came from the fried rice and beef. The shrimp fried rice was hard- like chewing on pellets (I tried adding water and reheating it which is something I shouldn't have to do and it was still hard) and there was barely any shrimp in it, and the beef tasted gamey- not like livestock/farm raised beef should taste. I ended up throwing out the rest of the shrimp fried rice after making myself eat it since I did pay for it. The beef, onions and peppers is still sitting in my refrigerator 2 days later and it's getting thrown away today. The sesame chicken was ok, not bad but not great. With the fried rice and beef not being good, I was actually happy for just ok sesame chicken- at least I could eat it. Overall, not horrible but definitely disappointing. The sweet and sour chicken and egg rolls were worth it. I'd definitely order those again. I might try the fried rice again, hopefully it was just a bad day but my hopes aren't high. And to be fair, this is a popular restaurant so I imagine they regularly have good food. Its just my luck I was disappointed on this particular day. read more

It was a rainy and cold December when we stopped at Chen's Garden for lunch. As it happens they are nestled into a strip mall with at least one other good eatery (a Greek place). It is a relatively clean place with friendly staff and a diverse menu, including the ever-popular lunch special! I had the Kung Pao chicken and she had the Triple Delicacy (aka Triple Delight). Both came with a spring roll for less than $8 each! The Kung Pao chicken was pretty good. Interestingly, it had pieces of breaded and fried chicken for the chicken part; tasty but not as healthy as usual. The dish was pretty mild but they happily provided some hot chili oil to spice it up. The triple delight was excellent! (I benefitted from the left-over portion we brought home), including delicious shrimp (even though sparse in number). They had good hot tea too. The only down side from the eating-in perspective was that they did not have plates for the food or cups for the tea. It was all served in styrofoam take out containers. The appearance of the store is a little rough around the edges, but I don't think that's something that needs to be reflected in a review! Let me preface this review with that I am a born and raised NYer, and as such I firmly believe that the only true and good pizza, Chinese, etc, is in NY. Having said that, this place really hits the mark. I moved to Leesburg 4 1/2 years ago and have been waiting impatiently for a true "NY-style" Chinese place to open up. We got a menu in the mail and just a brief glance told us almost everything we needed to know. The food selection was not like other places nearby, it is more authentic to what we're used to a Chinese food menu being, and the prices are extremely reasonable and not exorbitant like most places in the area. My husband went for take out. Service was great on the phone when we placed our order as well as when he got there. Told me it was decorated nicely but didn't notice if there were tables to eat-in. I have to start with the chicken noodle soup. Every Chinese place in NY offers it - a simple, delicious broth, with long noodles and chunks of white meat chicken. Nothing fancy and it's not supposed to be. For whatever reason, you can't get it in the Leesburg area, and if you do find a place that has it on the menu it's over $10 and is intended to be a meal (with cabbage, broccoli, and other veggies), which is fine, but who really orders Chinese to have soup for dinner? At Chen's it is exactly how I believe it is supposed to be, and for only $1.75. And did I mention it was delicious? I realize I just wrote a paragraph about soup. We also ordered the boneless spare ribs (tasty with high-quality meat and no fat, but too salty); the sesame chicken (absolutely delicious, all white meat, sauce wasn't syrupy); kung pao chicken (spicy as it's supposed to be, fresh veggies); and pork egg rolls (perfect. exactly how they should be.) New Chinese place in the same little strip center with Andy's, Wishbone and Pho#1 (corner of Catoctin Circle & S. King). The place is tiny, just what you would picture if someone said "hole-in-the-wall Chinese take-out place". It's clean and new inside with 3 tables, a fridge for beverages and a counter for orders. You can see into the back where the cooks are actually making the food, real woks and all. We got chicken and broccoli, General Tso's chicken, chicken rice soup and egg drop soup. Everything was good. Sadly, it's been a long time since I ate Chinese food that I didn't immediately know the sauce came out of a bottle. It doesn't here. Is it still Americanized Chinese food? Yeah, but it's really good, fresh-made, Americanized Chinese food. I spoke to the woman manning the counter, she was very friendly and said they are from the south of China, near Hong Kong. Good old Guangdong, so they probably do a good job on seafood. I will try that next time I order. Only thing I could critique was the egg drop soup, it was not as flavorful as I like but everything else was really good, and a crap-ton of food for cheap. Seriously, we order dinner and I have enough food for lunch for 3 days afterwards. They offer delivery and offer a steamed "healthy" section on their menu along with the option of brown rice. No kids menu but they will make "kid-sized" portions if you ask. UPDATE: We order about once a week and all is good. Husband loves the chicken noodle soup appetizer mentioned by Blaire. Chens is a small family restaurant with a few chairs and very little atmosphere. Luckily, their food is pretty decent so it makes up for the lack of ambiance. The beef chow fun was pretty good even though it said drunken noodles (indicating Thai). Hot and sour soup was solid, not great. Would like to see woodear mushrooms and a bit more bamboo shoots as well as a bit more body with a little corn starch maybe. Being a bit picky but I order this at every Chinese place because it's my "tell". Complaint however is there is a funky cigarette smell so some one is sneaking one in apparently. Not cool. The mixed fried rice was delicious, and I'm pretty hard to please with fried rice. The boneless pork was good, the shrimp,toast ok, and the boneless spareribs tasty. I'm still searching for a good Chinese restaurant in Leesburg and I can't find one. I moved from Centreville and I was happy with the Chinese restaurant there. Upon trying Chen's Garden I was not very satisfied with the food. It wasn't horrible but wasn't good either. I ordered General Tao's chicken with fried rice. The chicken seemed like it was the orange chicken placed in the General Tao's sauce. Clearly didn't taste like any General Tao's I've had before. The fried rice had very little vegetables and was under cooked and a bit hard. As I was grabbing my to go bag I noticed the front desk lady take my fortune cookie out and hiding it under her service desk. lol, that was kinda funny. My order also came with an egg roll that was thinner than a black permanent marker, that made me laugh and I didn't try it, looked very anorexic. So far, this is my favorite Chinese food in Leesburg. Schezuan string beans were the highlight! They're al-dente which I must have (I despise limp string beans!). The sauce was not too spicy IMO. We have been trying to find a good Chinese place in the area, but we are still failing. I think we tried about three places so far and can never remember which one is the best. The one we DO like of course doesn't deliver to our area. I will say that Chen's has delicious crab Rangoon!! They are tiny and come with about 8 pieces I believe, but have a delicious flavor. I tried this place out because alot of people I know order from here and say alot of good things about this place, so why not try it. I love Chinese food and I usually go hole in the walls to get some authentic Chinese food. But this place...i dont even want to see how it looks. Not sure what people see in this place or if people this is what Chinese food taste like, but I need to put you guys on some real Chinese food. That's basically like saying Taco Bell or Chipotle is mexican. Any place that delivers your food (3 orders) within 10 minutes is way too sketchy for me. Okay great, alot might say they have fast delivery and that's pretty fast but what the heck. 10 minutes?!?!? They must recycle everything there because it's obviously not fresh. Don't get me wrong I know what I was getting myself to. I know it's not fresh, I know it's not a restaurant but damn I mean it took 10 minutes by the time we hung up to the time the guy got here. That's scary!! Never again. The egg drop soup was super bland, no amount of pepper or seasoning can save it. My pepper steak looked like old meat that's probably why they poured so much sauce over it to cover it up. Let's just say my stomach was on fire right after I ate some of this food. 4 Stars = YAY! I am a fan. My whole family is. We tried them when they first opened a few months back and have been returning atleast 2-3 times a month. I believe it's my daughter's favorite restaurant in Leesburg... (we usually do carry out). They always yell "Mr Bruce!" when my husband appears for pick up..... and they know my kids by name too. Although Leesburg has several places where you will get good friendly service, it's still always appreciated. And the food is good... common orders for us are extra spicy Hunan Beef, Chicken with mixed veggies, Sweet and Sour chicken or sprimp, Kung Pao Chicken and the like....along with extras like egg rolls/spring rolls, crab rangoon and fried rice. It's always yummy, and we purposefully order extra so we can have leftovers the next day for lunch. I just placed a large order because we have company tonight and he asked me if I would rather have a free dinner or 10% off since it was such a large order..... and since hubby usually does the pick up, I don't think they realized we're the same house.... so it's not even special treatment. Visited Chen's Garden tonight for takeout. (I know. How cliché can this get?) We got three meals: Sesame Chicken, Moo Goo Gai Pan (with chicken), and Kung Pao Chicken. (OK. It could get more cliché after all.) I'm the Kung Pao eater and this was quite probably the best I've ever had. The chicken was quite good in all our meals. I've had the unfortunate encounter with Chinese restaurants that use poor quality chicken and hide it in overpowering sauce. We've had that often with Sesame Chicken especially. Well, there is none of that here! The chicken was very tender, no little chicken bricks, no gristle and very good taste. The Kung Pao sauce was really good, but a bit understated for my taste. I prefer my Kung Pao have some pow. They had packets of hot sauce available, so I added a bit to mine. It's much easier to spice food up than to go the other way, so I understand that they understand their clientele. :) The standout in my dish though had to be the vegetables. They were incredibly fresh and tasty and cooked just right for me; crisp rather than cooked into submission. I will get this again, but I saw quite a few menu items to try. My wife's Sesame Chicken was also very tasty, and my daughter really liked her Moo Goo Gai Pan. The portion sizes are plentiful, so one meal for two is quite doable; even three if you're not really hungry. They also gave us a couple spring rolls free with our meals. They were quite good. I think they made these fresh. If they didn't, they need to keep buying them wherever they got them from. With tax, our meals came to about $32, which I thought was very reasonable. It's pretty obvious they expect takeout & delivery to be their main business as the restaurant is only big enough for a few tables. They don't have a children's menu that I saw. Nor do they have a dessert section. They do have both diet and vegetarian choices though. I used to have a posting here to a menu I scanned in. No need for that any more.
