Very pleased with Chen Plumbing after getting the run around from my home warranty company. I called Chen on Tuesday and they came out on Thursday to install a new hot water heater. Scheduling was easy and they came out, checked the issue, and installed the new hot water heater in about 2 hours. Even though they gave me as arrival window of 10-2, the technician (Dawson) actually arrived around 9:30 and immediately started working and had everything up and running by noon. I'm writing a review after experiencing three service visits from them on separate occasions. Dawson came to our house twice. The company is very responsive and prompt, with reasonable rates. Dawson really knows his stuff; he thoroughly explains the issue and what he's going to do, but he's upfront and he does not pressure you or up-charge you. He is efficient and super helpful. My sink was left leaking and I got a ridiculous estimate for a valve/filter install of $1800. The faucet install cost at $550 was also too high. Chen Plumbing used to be ok and reliable, but this work at these prices is unacceptable. I was recommended a new plumber by a neighbor and his estimate was $1100 for the same job. Chen should reevaluate their guidelines and their prices. I won't use Chen again and will have to let the neighborhood (Tucker, GA) know who to use instead (very easy to do these days via message boards, apps and texts). read more

I had plumbers before who fixed the symptoms and not the actual root of the issue (which, as it turns out, is so many roots... ugh). In our opinion, Tim Chen is a con man. As I look through previous reviews it has become clear that there is a consistent exploitive pattern with this company. Do not trust this man. Mr. Chen told us that our hot water heater was faulty without actually diagnosing the real problem. So, he took our working water heater which had just turned 6 years old and then told us that he destroyed it without our permission. After he charged us $2200 for a new one, we realize the same day that he had not fixed the problem. We still did not have enough hot water. Absolutely nothing had changed. So, two days later he comes back and discovered the real problem which was a small problem of fixtures under our sink which was inhibiting hot and cold circulation in our entire house. But, it was too late; he had already destroyed our working heater without our permission. When we confronted him with his unprofessional misdiagnoses and destroying of our property and mistakes, he was not willing to take responsibility. It became clear that he was going for the quick dollar as it only took 45 minutes to replace a working water heater and the wholesale cost of a water heater is only $500. He charged us $2,200.00 for a 45 minute job. But had he solved the actual problem, it would not have been as lucrative for him. Con man. We also later spoke with 4 other plumbers who said that Mr. Chen was unprofessional and that he exploited us. They also said that even for replacing a hot water heater that the normal cost is $1,200. So, Chen had charged us $1,000 over the normal cost for something we didn't need. Again, do not trust this guy. read more

Scheduling was easy and they were very responsive. I called to have them check on a rental home plumbing leaking at the toilet. The reason for the low rating is because they failed on business integrity. The technician that went called me to discuss what went wrong, he said the water pressure was registering at 100psi so the Pressure Reducing Valve from the main line must have failed, the price ticket for replacing that was $600, and because of the pressure, the toilet flapper/fill valve/supply lines broke leading to a leak inside the toilet, the price for repairing that is $300+, so i was given a quote a couple bucks short of $1k. Maybe he thought i didn't know better, but I know $1k was way overpriced replacing these two things, I even searched the cost for material, I say about $250 for all the parts? Cannot understand how parts and labor can add up to $1k. I told the gentlemen I cannot afford fixing the leak at that price, so he immediate say to save his time and my time and tenant's time, he can do it for $500+, almost a 40% price cut just like that. I proceeded to have them do the work for the lowered price since I didn't want to trouble having another plumbing company come out etc etc. I know a business without integrity will not keep my business. I hardly write reviews, but I am willing to spend the time to warn those against dishonest businesses. read more

This guy is a con man with no ethics. He quoted me one price $395 then saw that I was a single woman, got the toilet off and then told me it would be $995 to continue. And that was just to do the diagnostic! Even the guys doing the work agreed it was shady and way over-priced. When I told him I was going to report him to the BBB and not to continue he texted me that he was going to put a lien on my house because I didn't pay. Never did I even threaten not to pay the $395 for the work done and yet he pulled that kind of threat out as if it was common practice. I was shocked. Extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. TC Plumbing is great! The (original) main sewer line for our nearly-60-year-old house had been frustrating us for years, and our 20-some-year-old blue-poly water main had already been repaired once for cracking and was due for an overall replacement now. I called Tim Chen late on a Thursday afternoon-- around 4:00. Tim took the time to come and check out my situation that evening, when I was thinking the I'd be happy if he just come by the next day. He gave me several options to solve my problem, from a patch that would solve things for a while, to a total replacement that should last for decades, and he also offered to bundle the water main replacement at a huge discount. These jobs had been quoted for me in the past by other plumbers, and the projects were simply too expensive to consider unless we had a total plumbing failure. Tim's prices were far more reasonable, and I had heard good things about him, so I took a chance. His men were tied up on Friday morning, but he said he could do the work on Friday afternoon. The timeframe concerned me-- what if they couldn't finish before the end of Friday? However, Tim promised he could get the job done in a day, and we would have our plumbing back in service by Friday evening. Not only did they complete a 100 foot sewage line replacement in a deep trench, and and a similar length of water main with copper, but they found time to replace a leaking, worn out faucet that I asked about late into the repair work. Between their morning job and all of my work, his crew must have worked a 12-hour-day, yet they stayed late and finished all the work, even the faucet, which I figured would get pushed until the next week, after they had worked so long on the sewer and water line. I can't recommend Tim Chen highly enough. I can only describe Tim and his employees as polite, friendly, and professional. I won't hesitate to call them the next time I have a plumbing repair need. or to recommend them to a friend or neighbor. read more

Chen Plumbing did a great job installing a new bathtub (after prior contractor totally messed up the plumbing). Chen also replaced the old hot water heater which was a horrible job. The spigot was corroded and stuck - the tank would not drain. Zane and Gus had to lug the water-filled tank out of the crawl space on knee-pads. Late that night, the tub's copper pipe sprung a leak - water was draining to the floor below. I called the office next day at 7:30 AM and the boss himself rushed over to fix the leak. I recognized the boss from 20+ years ago when he was the only plumber who responded late at night before Christmas to fix an overflowing toilet (tree roots). In a few hours, his team dug out the front lawn to replace the pipe to the curb plus install a clean out. I really appreciate these folks who know what they are doing and, above all, they are just good people. Licensed, experienced, great service, fair price. Yes they do show up on time, the cost is medium range. My problem was they put in a main sewer line for $3,550.00 from my house to the street. All was fine until the ground dropped several inches to foot here and the the entire long line. Especially at my house over 8 feet along the foundation. I now have rain water being rerouted at my foundation wall and the water is coming through my basement footing. Called Tim Chen himself who refused to come out and even look at the issue and told me to call a landscape company. Tim Chen told me "we fix pipe. We are not a landscape company". When I asked him then why was the pipe not left exposed with the instruction for me to call a landscape company at time of plumbing service he suddenly stopped the conversation with me. The issue is that his employee did not correctly pack the clay at intervals over the pipe line so now I have huge areas of ground that have dropped and large deep cracks many feet long. Now I have to pay another company to come check for a void under pipe so it will not crack, check the spring line and where pipe comes into the house and correctly pack the ground. Once that is finished then have my foundation check for water damage. DO NOT USE THIS PLUMBER. HE DOES NOT STAND BEHIND HIS EMPLOYEES WORK AND I had substandard negligent work performed. I will be learning about small claims court now. read more

I've used them over the years a handful of times, and they also worked as a subcontractor on my house while I had the kitchen re-done. Prices: his prices are probably on a par with many plumbers, not dirt cheap, but not a rip-off. Craftsmanship: Tim and his crew really seem to know their stuff, and will work long and ridiculous hours to get the job done. Some people might knockoff at 5pm, but if you are in the Tucker area, it's quite possible he'll swing by even after that to take a look at things. read more

I cannot believe that I have waited this long to post a review for Tim Chen Plumbing, as they totally saved my behind on New Year's Eve this past. I was working on a community event in Tucker for the holiday, and came to my house to pick up something, and found that my hot water heater had totally blown and was spewing hot water all across my basement, flooding everything. Tim's crew had already done a complete sewer line replacement for me a couple of years ago, with the experience being one of the best of my life in dealing with anyone on a property related issue. I spoke with Tim at around 11:00 and by 1:00 his crew was at my house with a top quality replacement unit, which was quickly installed and everyone got to go on to their festivities. The price was as quoted, and as previously, his team members were delightful and left everything in great shape. I'll never call another plumber again! read more

Tim has done work for us for many years and I have referred lots of people to him who have been very happy with his service. I received a $1000 dollar water bill and called Tim. He came out the same day, Wednesday, diagnosed the problem and presented the options for repair. By 2pm on Friday I had a new copper water line to replace my old leaking galvanized line. Problem solved in 48 hours and for a very reasonable price. I recommend him wholeheartedly. read more

I had a bad experience. After all the rain leading up to the Holidays, I had a flood in the crawlspace. I was able to get the sump pump fixed...thank you Aldo at WE Plumb... but when the water heater went out a few days later, Wayne was overbooked and referred me to Mr. Chen. His associate, Aldo, came out late in the day, and spent about 10 minutes in the crawlspace. He said he took out some parts and dried them, and put them back. (?) Of course, it was a Saturday in a holiday weekend, so I wasn't surprised at the ridiculous price of that service call. (It was almost as much as WE Plumb had charged me for the three hours they spent fixing the sump pump.) The water heater worked long enough for me to have a shower and wash some dishes. I called Mr Chen, and he said I'd have to replace the unit...at $1100.00. (I did some research. He uses exclusively AO Smith products, the highest in the business, but basically the same as a Rheem from Home Depot at half the price.) I called a friend who came over with a retired contractor. They identified the problem, went to Home Depot for a $7.00 part, installed it, and everything's fine. They also informed me that all Mr. Chen's guy did was hit the reset button, which did NOT solve the problem. A know I won't be called on TC Pumbing again, and I'm not sure they're trustworthy. read more

Shame on Tim Chen! He took advantage of my 87 year old landlord. He charged $5000 to replace the old pipes with PVC. I understand this is expensive that is not the problem. The problem is it took him 3 visits and he tore up the front yards on both sides of the driveway and he tore up the driveway! I can't ever drive into it because of a 3 for gravel mound that he used to repair what he tore out! Now my landlord has to replace the whole driveway! read more
