Went by Chem Cafe today and wanted to try something new. Usually get a coffee or a lemonade. The barista recommended me the raspberry hibiscus. It was delicious and refreshing. I love what they have done to the place with the wall painting, decorating and seating. They are always welcoming from the barista to the owner. They always greet everyone with a smile and love that they get to know their clients. Would highly recommend going if you are in downtown Elgin and want a nice place to hangout or get a cup of coffee/tea/lemonade.

This is the coffee shop that I rely on to bring my friends and family that are visiting me. It's my new local coffee spot since moving to Elgin and let me tell you this spot has been open when every single other spot that sells coffee aside from Starbucks has been closed so as a local this spot is a gem! I recommend the wildcat and the latte is amazing as well. The service is great very patient women:) the place is very cute and I would say if u had to choose a coffee spot to stay loyal to, this one is it!

Amazing coffee! Great staff and coffee takes like summer moon. 10/10 location is perfect and great lab decor for chemistry themed coffee shop! From out of town but will definitely come back

Friendly and lots of space to sit down out of the heat. I walked in and was greeted as if we were already friends. In the time it took to make and pay for my coffee I had a real conversation with some who cared to connect with me. Skip Starbucks and come here!!!

I will start off saying, I will be back here when I'm in the area. This is a small intimate shop. They have a mini electric fireplace that was cozy on a cold and rainy Saturday. I first ordered the Elginate. It was good for the ingredients but I'm honestly not a butter pecan person so I shouldn't have tried it. As the afternoon progressed and I ordered a hot tea. She made an earl gray with milk and lavender. I'm not sure if it had a name or listed on menu but that was delicious! It actually surprised me only because I'm familiar with cold teas not hot. I order the tuna salad croissant. It was also better than I expected and completely ate the whole sandwich. Before I left I had to try a Broo beverage but I was kind of exhausted of caffeine so I went with a margarita. It comes in 16 oz cup. She made it well but not strong. I had no complaints with that just want to inform not to plan to get "lit".

I am constantly surprised, and pleasantly so, at the developments here and imagination the owners show here. Not only are they members of the community but they add value to the community. They just started offering their alcoholic beverage menu and it looks great! Sit down, enjoy a beverage of any variety, and soak up the local ambience. ChemCafe is a great place for Elginites and visitors seeking a nice break from the day.

Visited for my first time today (1/3/2020) with my hubby and my puppy. I stayed outside because puppy wasn't allowed in. My hubby made my order while I took puppy on a walk in downtown Elgin. The atmosphere is very quiet with soft jazz playing in the background. The coffee beans are ground fresh when you order. I drink tea latte. No syrup and concentrate here!! They brew the tea when you order your drink. My chai tea latte is good. It's a little weaker than I like but it's good. The lady at the counter was very nice. I actually asked before I brought my puppy in and she was very polite when she told me he could not come in. The place is very clean. I recommend it & hope to return again soon. Went back 1/4/2020 got my usual but this time the barista suggested oat milk (usually additional charge). I love it!! I finally got a chance to go in and look around. It's very nice! Clean. I still recommend it if you're traveling through. It is right down the street from the Elgin City Hall.

It's so nice to have a genuine, original local coffee shop in Elgin (not a sterile franchise). The coffee is great and so friendly too.

Upper Crust Bakery is my "go to" bakery when I am hosting a party that has associated dessert. My favorite cakes at Upper Crust is the Chocolate Italian Cream and the Gato Marissa cakes. They also have an assortment of cookies, pastries, muffins and other sweet treats. It is not unusual to find a line to get to your heavenly pastries and coffee, however, the line goes rather quickly. Many customers are at the bakery only for pickup...revolving pickup counter. Others linger in the bakery enjoying their bakery treats. They also serve soup, sandwiches and quiche as well. I had just read on Reddit a couple days prior that this was recommended as an alternative to another Austin bakery. When I walked in I was surprised to find many older individuals sitting and chatting, so I thought there might be some kind of event. But it's probably just the demographics of the neighborhood! Based on the decor I can tell they're not trying to be a "trendy" bakery and remain true to their identity as a neighborhood business. They still had a good number of pastries available but I did get the last strawberry danish of the day (pictured). I also got the almond croissant. Their pre-made bread loaves all looked appetizing as well. I thought both pastries had good texture but could have used more filling/flavoring.

Arguably one of the greatest foods ever invented. Atleast in my world. How can you go wrong with bread filled with sweet or savory fillings? Hruska's is about halfway between Houston and Austin and a perfect rest stop to fill up on gas, use the clean facilities, grab a snack or indulge in their amazing baked goods. They are steeped in history and have been around for decades passing along the family recipes. It's obviously improved structurally over the years from a country store and looks like a modern gas station now. It's always pretty busy every time I have stopped in, but they are a well oiled machine and keep the masses moving with excellent customer service. They have all your gas station essentials like snacks and beverages. What sets them apart is their bakery. Here, they label their kolaches as the traditional fruit filled variety. I like them, but they are never my first choice. I love the ones with meat inside. Here, they label these as pigs in a blanket. They have a large variety of both. I usually go for a regular sausage and cheese, but over here, they sell a delicious pan sausage kind. On top of all their sweet and savory baked goods, they also sell burgers on the grill. Their burgers have made it to the Texas Monthly Top 50 burger spots. I have yet to try it. Overall, this is an always stop place for me. I highly recommend stopping here to stretch your legs and enjoy a delicious pastry while you're at it. I will definitely be back.
