I trusted him enough to let him choose my glass of wine to follow my cocktail, and he nailed it. He also walked us through the menu in detail, which was incredibly helpful as first-time guests. The food absolutely delivered: * Shrimp St. Martins - Five jumbo de-veined shrimp in a rich, butter-like sauce that was decadent without being overwhelming. * Frisée Aux Lardon Salad - Rene thoughtfully split this tableside and served it onto individual plates. The dressing leans heavily Dijon-forward, so order accordingly if you're not a mustard fan. That said, the bacon was some of the best I've ever had: thick, slightly sweet, and perfectly cooked. * Sea Bass Ratatouille - Served over a tomato sauce, it was flavorful, well-balanced, and not too heavy. * Rack of Lamb - An extremely generous portion (which I happily helped my date finish). This was the night of the Andrea Borcelli concert and the restaurant was full. Management should have prepared for a busy night. My party was so excited to eat in the Polar Bear room and head to the concert. How does a Michelin star restaurant let this happen and then force us to pay 20% gratuity? I was a server for 10 years and I would never let this type of experience happen to a party paying $100 a person in food and drinks. I ordered an Old Fashioned and honestly... the bartender needs some help. It came out full of crushed ice and tasted watered down. I sent it back, and the second one was basically the same drink with more whiskey thrown in. At that point, I just let it go. Then things just kept going downhill. After about 20 minutes, we realized we hadn't gotten any bread. We asked the waiter and he said he'd check. Another 10 minutes go by and he comes back saying, "Still no bread," and drops off the wrong appetizer -- we had only ordered a salad. He takes it back, and it's another 15 minutes before our actual salad shows up. Still no bread. At one point, we could literally see him arguing with someone in the back about why we didn't get bread yet. Not exactly something you want to watch during a date night. The food, when it finally came out, was delicious. No complaints there. But it took forever. By the time we were eating, it was about 45 minutes until closing... and we had gotten there two hours earlier. Then comes the payment situation. The waiter brings the check back and casually tells me I gave him two credit cards and he "just picked the brighter one." I look down and he had handed me someone else's credit card while mine was still sitting in the book. That's not a small mistake. Overall, it just felt unorganized and sloppy this time.
