The chicken fried steak was crispy, covered in gravy, and came out sizzling hot. The breakfast burrito was packed with eggs, potatoes, meat, and cheese--more than enough food to keep me full through the rest of the day. The salsa had a nice kick, the hash browns were crispy, and the service was quick even though the place was busy. Decided to go out to breakfast and wanted to try a new spot so we ended up at Cheliz. This place is located in San Bernardino and from the outside may not look that appealing. Once inside it gives diner vibes. There's a larger counter dining area and booths around the establishment. I love that you can see them cooking your food. The service was great. The ladies working were friendly and knew the menu. I loved that they were shy and actually engaged with their customers. I ordered the country breakfast. It's their home style potatoes with country gravy, diced ham, and scrambled eggs (I requested over medium instead), and toast. The potatoes were a little under cooked and under seasoned for me but they were still good. The gravy did give a strong country gravy (peppered sausage) flavor. Overall, it was still ok. I opted for sourdough toast which was toasted nicely but I don't know if what butter they used because it was very salty, even with jelly on it. This place stayed clean no matter how busy it got. It was my first time inside in a long time. I used to eat here when it was Yum Yum and I was in college. The food is better now than back then. Worst service. was told to sit where ever. Only 4 top available unless I wanted to go in the back room by myself. Waitress took my order. Someone else brought my food. Finished my tea always making sure I set my cup where it can be seen if a refill is needed. Got the smallest piece of pata and hardly any tripe and hominy. It was all broth. Got corn tortillas that were barely warm and fell apart right away. There chilaquiles are super tasty the green sauce with a little bits of chunky pork just goes well comes with beans as well. I like to add country potatoes. I'm not into taking pictures of my food, but the presentation was great, the taste was great, and the atmosphere was very friendly. Service was quick and very friendly! Parking is very easy as well. Stopped in for a breakfast burrito to go. It is not a terrible burrito but also not something I would go back for. The burrito was mainly potato with some eggs and some cheese. I paid extra for bacon and the amount that I got was very disappointing. I got a few BITS of bacon at best. I initially thought they had forgotten the bacon but then found tiny bits towards the end of the burrito. The red and green salsas are at least very good. Located north on D street just past the post office. Location has been completely revamped and the parking lot is an easy pull in/pull out with two entrances. It's far enough on the edge of downtown to not be surrounded by homeless. When you enter, the space is bright with fresh paint and lots of windows providing light. There is a diner counter but also plenty of booths of various sizes along the walls. Staff was very welcoming and utilized new register/technology to take my order. Now my coworkers have been coming to this location almost since day 1 and I should have listened to them on what to order. The breakfast burrito was pretty amazing and can be modified to customer specifications with no problem. The size is not the biggest I've seen but also not the smallest. They have a choice of green, red, and habanero salsa to accompany the burrito as well. The biscuits and gravy are also a favorite and come in a full and a half order. They are delicious, filling, and really hit the spot. The chilaquiles though....if you've seen my reviews you know these are held at a high standard. I cannot endorse the chilaquiles here. It comes with large chunks of pork, but not the best quality pieces, in a green sauce. There were plenty of chips and I had over medium eggs on it but the dish sorely lacked flavor.
