Title: Awkward, Underwhelming--and Surprisingly Memorable…read more We signed up for Sharon's "Maine Appetizers" cooking class at Ambrosia in Bar Harbor expecting a fun, local, and authentic experience. Unfortunately, it was anything but. The menu included a nice variety of roast beef roll-ups with bacon, deviled eggs topped with cocktail shrimp, chickpea dip, caprese skewers which literally were tomato, cheese and a basil leaf, and a lobster salad made with just two ingredients--lobster and mayo--served on bread. Not exactly the showcase of Maine's culinary richness we were hoping for. The class ended earlier than expected--lasting only 1.5 hours instead of the advertised 2. Portion sizes were quite small, and there was no inquiry about food allergies, which felt like a missed opportunity for inclusivity. Sharon came across as genuine and quirky, which added a bit of charm to the experience. However, instruction was minimal, and when she did offer guidance, she publicly critiqued my son's cucumber slicing in a way that felt unnecessarily harsh and uncomfortable. For someone hosting tourists in one of Maine's most visited destinations, Sharon might want to reconsider her approach--or her line of work. That said, the experience gave us plenty to talk about afterward, and for better or worse, it's one we won't forget. Sometimes the most unexpected moments make the best stories.

My mom and I went to a cooking class at Ambrosia on July 26th and we were so happy with the class!…read moreWe learned to make popovers and Maine Chowder and they were delicious! We both left the class feeling very comfortable that we could easily make these two dishes at home. It was well-organized, and the chef, Sharon, (a trained Cordon Blue chef) was engaging and informative. The class was held in an historic old Bar Harbor building, close to the water which added even more ambiance. We agreed that we would definitely take another (the Maine blueberry crumble sounds amazing!) when we are next in Bar Harbor. Highly recommend!

This is such a fun and interesting store. Everything is made out of wood and the space is peaceful…read moreand cozy as a result. Imagine kids toys, bird houses, small decorative art, candleholders, and more. There's a rustic and Scandinavian feel about the space. It's a great place to pick up toys or gifts if you want something that's thoughtfully created. The owner protects woodlands by using wood that would otherwise be wasted. We loved our quick little visit to the shop. They also have a large rocking horse that is fun for kids to experience. If I had more room in my luggage, I would've taken home one of those adorable little bird houses.
