They even opened specifically on a Monday when they are normally closed because of our quilting group called ahead before our cruise ship stop in Bar Harbor. They had an awesome selection of quilt fabric and quilting gear (I don't quilt, but I appreciate). I've shopped at this quilt shop for a few years while on vacation. I always find what I'm looking for and found the owner helpful and knowledgeable. Never felt rushed or not acknowledged but always there for a greeting. My husband knows besides Jordan's Pond or Cadillac Mt. this is one of my first "go too places"! I came across this store while wandering the streets in Bar Harbour after getting off our cruise ship. As a scrapbooker, it's always exciting to go into any store that sells supplies but it's even more exciting when you didn't even know that was such a store in the area! This store is not located on the busier street full of tourist and other shops but on the same street as the bed and breakfast and hotels. They have a big sign next to the building so you can't miss it and a parking lot, there were a few cars when we were there. When I walked in the door, I noticed mainly quilting fabrics but in a little room was where all the scrapbooking stuff was. I made my way around to look at the 12x12 paper, embellishments and stickers. The prices were reasonable but not a huge selection of products assuming that there are probably not that many scrapbookers in the area. What I did see was that the "travel" paper was all about Maine, I loved that. Of course I had to purchase some to complete my Maine pages. The store was a little busy and as I was paying I said to the lady how her papers were about Maine and she replied that she designed and got them made for her store! What a great idea, unique for sure. So, any scrapbookers out there make sure you stop in this store! read more

Cute store with a variety of fabrics at good prices. There were different rooms for scrapbooking, etc. I think they have something for everyone. There was one friendly woman working who explained their system but otherwise left me wander. I found great seasonal fabrics for fall and Christmas. Personally I have dog allergies but the fact that they had rescued an older dog did touch my heart. I was also glad the dog did not have free rein of the shop. I am a modern fabric collector as we all know I will never use it all. They did not have much in organic or modern fabrics but a nice collection of choices. Plus I think there's an old bank vault being repurposed. Cool. read more

I am struggling to complete a unique embroidery project, and Fabricate's owner saved me from making a drastic mistake. Her advice was wonderful and the techniques, tools, and fabrics she recommended were just what I needed. This store is a marvelous resource with a host of supplies that are difficult to find. Wow--Kim from Salem MA really got this one wrong. The owners at Fabricate are always trying to help, with information and advice that most customers are really grateful for. It's sad to be so misunderstood--they work hard to be there for year-rounders (in a very quiet winter town) and simultaneously to offer what the inevitable flood of tourists want each "season." It's a cute store (I've heard tourists gush over it), with some very good fabrics (& other stuff I personally can't assess), and high quality essentials for quilters. Also, they'll order what you need--batting, rulers, etc.--if they don't stock it. The owners' friendly, patient helpfulness & even enthusiasm for everyone's projects though is what I most appreciate & what prompts me to write this. Pity if the negative attitude of one visitor influences others. read more

There are so many cute patterns of fabric! I bought so much in one run. Im from Boston and haven't even seen any fabric close to this kind of selection and cuteness. I would highly recommend. Only thing is the price is a bit high by yard..... if it was only a little bit cheaper I would give it 5 stars! read more

Drove an hour and a half to get to this store. Upon entering the interesting building, I commented to the saleswoman that it was a great building, and got the minimum of reaction. Looked around, the selection is not vast, and chose two colorways of one fabric. A different saleswoman asked if she could cut it for me. I asked if I could use the restroom while I made up my mind. No restroom for customers!!! She directed me three blocks down the street to the library. Have been in quilt shops all over the country, and they all have restrooms for customers. Really, consider the quilter demographic. Actually the YWCA was one block closer than the library. Elected not to buy the fabric, and won't be back. read more

I have been in Fabricate a few times (as a tourist now that I no longer have family in town) and have always had a positive experience. Not only have I found the staff helpful to answer any and all of my questions, but they also helped my browsing a bit easier in showing my 4 year old daughter some toys they had to entertain children. Fabricate is a must do on our annual trip to Bar Harbor. Friendly staff who remembers us, and lets us know it, encouraging us to feel welcome. Wide variety of fabrics, ideal for a quilter. We also love the buttons and ribbons. Clearly designed and operated by someone who loves crafts and is eager (but not too eager) to connect with others in the same vein. read more

So I am a quilter and like most quilters, check out local shops for fabric and patterns to add to my stash whenever I travel. As a yearly visitor to Bar Harbor I have checked out this store twice. Unfortunately, the first time a few years ago was a disaster. I was followed around as if I were a thief, ready to put something in my bag. It was extremely uncomfortable and I left vowing to never return. There are other quilt stores in the area I have regularly visited instead. This year I decided to try again. While I was not followed, I was still made uncomfortable by an unfriendly staff person. She stood at a cutting table, said prices for fabric and then stood silent watching me look at the various bolts and fq's. No welcoming face, no smiles, lack of personality, etc. Maybe they only like year rounders at this store. But hey..you are in a tourist town and most likely, that tourist is a quilter and looking to spend $$$$. This regular visitor will not be back ever. read more
