First time to chef Marilyn's on a Tuesday and it definitely did not disappoint. First thing to note is that it's a take out place and it's priced per item. It's a relatively small spot so it only fits a few people inside, the line will lead to outside. When it came to the food, it was all that we asked for. We saw a lot of people hype up the Mac and cheese and it definitely deserves the hype, cooked perfectly with plenty of cheese. Both chickens and catfish were tender with lots of juice and flavor. Mash potatoes were soft and the gravy paired perfectly. Cornbread was the only that was just okay but still really good. The woman that was serving was by herself and was really helpful and patient with everyone. Definitely created a welcoming service.

Turkey Wings & Macaroni & Cheese

Sundays seem to be when I crave Mac & cheese and my dining partner wants the smothered turkey wings. I called mid Sunday afternoon and inquired if these delectable items were still available and alas they were, a friendly voice Ms. Ariel answered the phone and said she would have the food waiting for me upon arrival. As soon as I arrived there was a decent line, I'm guessing the beautiful post Church crowd also wanting their Sunday Soul Food Fix. I walked to the front, and Ms Ariel personally handed me my food items. After paying, and opening the precious cargo in my car I dived into baked salmon & Macaroni & cheese: both were cooked to perfection, in fact I scarfed the Mac & cheese so fast I considered going back in for a second portion.... Lip smacking good. The smothered turkey wing is a large portion and yielded my dining partner several servings. There were several patrons in line who said it was their first time and asked me for recommendations, I rattled off quite a long list of options and they smiled in anticipation. Kudos to this Black woman owned business serving delicious soul food for countless Angelenos.

Learned about Chef Marilyn on the show "Worth It" Season 3, Episode 1 Mac N Cheese...I just had to try this! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2COl0ui4Sc This is old school Soul Food that has been around for 30 years...its traditional, delicious, and made with love. $5 Mac N Cheese...definitely soul food style, a little pricy for what it is. $5 Collard Greens...traditional and tasty, again a bit pricy $.69 Cornbread...yes please! $6.50 Smothered Pork Chop...a nice meaty pork chop in a light gravy. $2.25 Fried Chicken Thigh and $2.85 Chicken Wing...this was the BEST part of my meal. The batter is thick and crispy, with juicy tender meat inside. I've eaten A LOT of fried chicken in my time, and Chef Marilyn's is amongst the best, and its CHEAP! Before you Yuppies, Elitists and Trust Funds Kids come visit, keep in mind this is on Crenshaw, its Cafeteria style, no alcohol, and Take Out only without anywhere nearby in walking distance to sit at. I wouldn't call it the Ghetto, but its definitely not West Hollywood or Beverly Hills.

Luckily, while out in LA in close proximity to Chinatown, the husband was reminded of Little Jewel. There was no question where we were headed next. We were warmly greeted as soon as we walked in and handed some menus. We were told to take our time, which was needed since everything sounded so good and the husband kept changing his mind on what to order. We finally settled on the Spicy Creole Jambalaya, Craw Mac Deluxe and The Crabster. It all came out hot, fresh and so satisfyingly delicious! The spice level was perfect. Portions were generous. We had initially planned on having beignets but did not have any more room -- even the dessert pocket was full! The atmosphere is very relaxed. They have several tables in the main dining area and the bar section. Orders are placed and picked up at the front counter. Everyone is super friendly. Parking can get a tricky in Chinatown. There are several flat rate lots if you're planning on spending some time. Metered parking is best for short term visits if you can find it -- we paid $4.30 for an hour.

I loved how they give you an option to upgrade for peeled shrimps. I did this but sadly they don't give you the receipt back so wouldn't know how much more. ( you have to ask for it for them to give it to you) Service: The service was good although I didn't like that after 11pm it's ONLY CARDS. No CASH I ordered around 11:20pm and the girl allowed me to pay cash although she had already cashed out the registers. Although I did have to speak up for myself which I don't like because I know others would've left it like that. I called 15 mins before going to the restaurant to make sure they did accept cash and who ever picked up said YES. BUT then when I got there she said she couldn't accept my cash. I told her what happened about my call and the drive I did so she helped me out and accepted the cash. This is why I'm leaving it as a 4 star review. I didn't like that the person who picked up the phone call lied but the girl who helped me out with my order was kind turned it around. Ambience : The restaurant is small inside around 2 tables I believe but you can always take food to go and it's clean inside. But I can't say much about it because I did take it to go.

I saved this spot as it (no lie) came up when I asked chatgpt what was the best place in the LA area to get whole dungeness crab so I already had it saved as a back up. We arrived a little after they opened on a Thursday. There was another couple but we pretty much had the whole place to ourselves. What we swallowed: *WHOLE DUNGENESS CRAB WITH CORN AND GARLIC NOODLES side: This was spot on. We ordered the mix seasoning (cajun and lemon pepper), mild with added corn. The sauce was sticky and gooey. I took the meat out of the crab and topped the crab meat with the sauce. It was SOOOO good. The garlic noodles were good, more garlic then flavor but it was still good. Topped that with the crab sauce too, lol. *FRIED OYSTERS WITH FRIES: The oysters were hot and tasty. They didn't have a weird after taste like some oysters do. Topped these with the crab sauce too. lol We really enjoyed our time here. There is parking in the back and code for the bathroom. The corn plasticy, cheap and just disgusting. The potatoes, poorly cooked and under seasoned. The clams... no notes. Now at this point Mama B is scared y'all...I wasn't trying to get food poisoning. I'm disappointed, honestly the most flavourless seafood boil I have ever had the displeasure of eating. What's horrifying is the bill was $91...$91!!!! I feel like this math is just not mathing.
