Amazing experience. It was so nice to have a delicious dinner in the comfort of our own home. One of the best meals I've ever had, and the price is more than reasonable for the quality and amount of food you get (we were both stuffed afterwards). Our meal: - Jewelry box appetizer -- A box filled with an assortment of little apps, like dumplings, fish tacos, tataki, uni with tofu, and black cod lettuce cups. I appreciated that some of the apps were authentic Japanese style while others were more Asian-American fusion. - A5 Japanese Wagyu -- We've been trying to find wagyu this good ever since visiting Japan. The American washu was very tender as well. - Assorted sushi -- Super fresh and delicious. We got lots of tuna, as I told Chef Maezaki ahead of time that tuna was our favorite. I appreciate him accommodating our request! - Crab ramen -- We eat ramen all the time, but never had crab ramen before. Loved his unique spin on a classic Japanese dish, and such a wonderful way to end the meal. Booking was easy. I reached out through Yelp, then we moved the conversation over to email. Chef Maezaki was very fast to reply to my messages. I was a little worried it might be awkward having to make conversation with Chef Maezaki throughout the whole meal, but he was so personable and easy to talk to -- he's welcome back anytime! In terms of covid safety, he wore a mask the whole time and was very respectful about keeping a safe distance. After the meal, he quickly and thoroughly cleaned up our kitchen, even sanitizing everything he touched, like our light switches. We were both super impressed watching Chef Maezaki work and learning about this amazing business he's built. We can't wait for our next special event so we can have Chef Maezaki cook for us again!

I wanted to surprise my husband with something special and different for his 30th birthday, and I stumbled upon Chef Taka on Yelp. I asked for a quote and got a response within the same day! I originally wanted to book him for our wedding anniversary in Dec, but he was so booked up! Luckily, he was available this month! We had a 5 course meal and it was so delicious!!! First look at the menu had me worried that my husband would be hungry still, so I added a handroll for him and wagyu skewers for me. We were so full and had some sushi & ramen left over. Chef Taka's food had us blown away!! We were mesmerized with our jewel box appetizer, so you can only imagine how every bite was after that! All the fish on the nigiri literally melted in our mouths. The wagyu was definitely unforgetable. We had a spicy miso ramen with snow crab and king crav leg and just wow!! The broth was the best I've ever had. I don't think I could ever eat sushi at a restaurant again. This is definitely an experience that I recommend everyone to have. We may have to celebrate our birthdays like this from now on!! Also, if you're worried about COVID - Chef Taka wore his mask the entire time. He also brought his own house slippers to wear, which I whole heartedly appreciate!! He sanitized everything when our meal was complete. He even offered to help me when I was setting up my decorations for my husband's surprise dinner. Chef Taka was very friendly, such a humble & personable guy.

My husband wanted to arrange a covid friendly dinner for me so he hired Chef Maezaki to come and cook us dinner. He comes well in advance to prep the food and makes it fresh. He needs 2 to 2.5 hours to prep your meal and cook everything at your residence. He will serve you a 5 course meal! You can customize your menu however you like. First course- you start off with a beautiful bento box filled with items of your choice. 2nd course- Then comes the wagyu, which melted in my mouth. He even adds caviar on top for a little extra deliciousness. 3rd course- an abundance of nigiri sushi - flown fresh from Tsukiji in Tokyo. If you know you know. 4th course- crab ramen with a vegetarian broth- which was SOOOOO delicious! 5th and final- I picked a crepe for my husbands dietary restrictions but you can also do tiramisu or mochi! Chef Maezaki also worked for Nobu! He is very skilled at what he does! If you just want to treat yourself out, he is the man to hire! I swear you won't be disappointed. He even does sushi classes!

Having Chef Maezaki prepare and serve us an intimate dinner at home was one of the best things to happen during the pandemic! From his initial prompt response to my inquiry, and working together to craft the perfect menu, working with him was so easy and pleasant. On the day of the dinner, he brought everything he needed and even some surprise extras to make the night extra special. I didn't even have to set the table. The only thing I had to prepare was drinks. UGH, the luxury of being served like this felt incredible after a year of isolation! And the food was out of this world! Really high quality fish and other ingredients. Pretty traditional Japanese sushi preparation -- which we love -- peppered with some more unique dishes as well. The crab ramen was a favorite! Safety was also of upmost concern to him, as he was sure to wear a mask 100% of the time, and cleaned super well when he was done. We cannot wait to have Chef Maezaki back!!

Chef Maezaki is the most amazing guy and sushi chef. He's so kind. He's such a great chef. The at home personal sushi dinner he made us was unbelievable. Highly recommend!!

Chef Maezaki was truly the best chef for our in home sushi birthday dinner event. He was so professional, shows up 3 hrs ahead of time to prepare, and was flexible getting ready with a house of kids and a dog and presented the most beautiful dinner. The 8 appetizer boxes were incredibly detailed and delicious, the sushi was top grade and the beef was mouth watering. He had 2 servers to help as well since we had a big group. And chef left my kitchen cleaner than when he arrived. Huge thank you for making the night so special and delicious for us. We highly recommend!

Taka the sushi chef is unbelievable!!! I've had 3 different events with him and he's the nicest person, is the best teacher and his sushi is top quality. I've eaten at every fancy sushi place and he is at the top! It's so nice to have it in your own home and he cleans up like it never happened! He did my in laws 60th anniversary party of 11 people and we had the best time! I hired him for my friends 60th birthday party of 6 women and had the best time!! My daughter hired him for her boyfriends birthday and it was just the two of them and they said fantastic!! I cant recommend him enough. If he had a sushi restaurant near me, I would go every week. Anyway- he is professional, great activity and you make your own sushi- he doesn't make it for you and so much fun. Not to mention mouth watering delicious!!!

    Second course, Wagyu!

What an amazing experience! We booked Chef Taka for a group birthday celebration at our home in Palm Desert and the dinner turned out better than we could ever have expected. The food was delicious and the conversation with Chef Taka and his assistant Chef Amin (I hope spelled that correctly) was so much fun. We can wait to have another experience with them. Thank you so much, Chefs Taka and Amin for the perfect evening!

Had an amazing private dining experience. From beginning to end, Chef Maezaki paid careful attention to customizing the menu to fit dietary needs and made substitutions where needed. Most of us had the filet mignon but Chef was able to make sushi for the one person who wanted it. He also responded super fast to every single inquiry and question and came with everything you'd need including utensils, napkins, and placemats. Chef also went above and beyond and even cleaned my friend's stove and oven after he was finished. We were surprised by how much food we got for the price and it was delicious!

The nigiri we learned to make through his class! How awesome
    Pamela N.

Chef Maesaki was A1! Communication, the planning of the event, the hospitality, the quality of the food, he really goes above and beyond for you. This is such a great idea for special occasions or a night to really remember. Will definitely have to have him over again!

The class structure made it hard to learn honestly. instead of cooking step by step together, all instructions were given at once and we were left to cook independently, which was overwhelming and difficult to remember details like which ingredients to add/when, how long to cook things for and proper technique, especially for beginners. A power outage that required sharing burners added to the disorganization. We were also surprised to be required to share ingredients (including raw meat) with someone we didn't know across from us, which felt awkward for an expensive date experience. There was no clear wrap up at the end, and people began eating and leaving without much direction. Again our chef was great, and we enjoyed the stories and history behind the dishes, but overall the cooking lesson experience didn't match the cost or the hands on learning we were expecting.

Seeing the process on how those delectable treats are made, gave a greater appreciation each time I wolf one down. Clemence was a great instructor, patient with newbies, explaining things simply & gracefully. I thought creating the unique fillings would be the most daunting task, but they came out great. Located on the 3rd floor of Santa Monica Place, the classes at The Gourmandise School are the perfect opportunity for those intimidated by pastry-making & cooking. I had an absolute blast, and recommend everyone scheduling a future class at The Gourmandise School.

Teaching: classes are structured and run on time. Teachers are fantastic and patient, especially with new students. Most of the classes are paired off in groups which means individual instruction and supervision is minimal so unless you're looking for something more formal with extremely tailored feedback, a private session is likely better versus a group setting. Other Comments: this was likely a one-off incident, but at a class I attended. I was disappointed with the assistant (Stephanie). As the class was winding down and desserts were being handed, for some reason, she served herself and ate before completing distribution so there were several attendees who didn't receive their desserts (which they paid for!). It was bizarre and unprofessional, which was weird given that she had been helpful and attentive throughout the class so I don't know what happened. She also seemed not to have budgeted well and hadn't purchased enough ingredients, especially for the dessert, which may be another reason for why we ran out so fast at this particular class.

We merely went to someone's private house, cooked in her kitchen with her, and ate the meal. I was disappointed that it wasn't in a professional kitchen with other students. We were the only students tonight which was kind of nice, but also not so, because after we ate, we felt rushed to leave the house. The food we made was good though for the most part. The appetizer was okay, but not something I would make on my own as it consisted of baking a whole wheel of camembert cheese and topping it with apples sauteed in butter and sugar. It was good though, but not something we would make. Also, the dessert was not something we would make on our own either. We peeled two pears and soaked them in a whole bottle of red wine. My husband and I both felt that it was a waste of a bottle of wine as when you finish cooking it, you just throw away the rest of the wine. The main meal was chicken sauteed in butter and olive oil first then baked in a caste iron skillet. The chicken could have been cooked longer as it wasn't well cooked and kind of raw in my opinion. My husband who is a very picky eater actually liked it and said it was good, but I didn't think it was cooked well enough for my tastes. The leek sauce was nice and the ratatouille was okay, but I also felt the eggplant could have been cooked longer. Again, this was a very expensive experience for what it was. I think I paid about $270 for the both of us together, almost $300. I feel we could have just sat down at a really nice restaurant and ordered top of the notch steak and have had money left over. In any case, we've been wanting to take a cooking class together for a while, so we have that checked off our list. I just would not do this again with this company, with that chef, or recommend anyone else to waste their money doing it either.
