The Hot N Sour soup needs a little extra work, which includes adding less cornstarch and I think they use vinegar for the sourness when a traditional soup uses black vinegar. It did include a lot of fresh mushrooms and they were sweet to let me add chicken for an additional $1.50 since it doesn't come with any meat. I did miss the usual crunchiness from wood ear mushrooms that is typically added. My Hot N Sour soup is a 3.5/5, but I am rounding up per my math teacher's instructions. They are wearing masks and have plastic sheets covering up their dining area due to Covid-19 & only taking To Go orders. read more

Why 4 stars? Because it was elevated above the norm. --- --- --- I don't know how many years I've had Chef Li bookmarked. I feel like someone initially told me about them in like 2013ish? Either way, after Christina G's blessing came in, it was reiterated to me that it was finally time to make the trip to Oldsmar. My wife and I struggled to decide what to order because if you're going to drive nearly 30 minutes one way for carry-out, you better make sure you fully scratch that itch. We opted to order small portions of a bunch of things that we could try as many items as possible. Teriyaki Chicken: 5-stars. I could eat this all day, every day. The wife thought it was just okay, but anything covered in that sauce would hit the spot 10 times out of 10 for me. Sweet and Sour Pork: 3-stars. This kind of missed the mark. It reminded me more of the cheaper Chinese takeout that I've experienced over the years and not comparable to a place like Yummy House. Pork Fried Rice: 4-stars. It was fine. It didn't stand out, but fried rice is not usually very unique from place to place. But it's always tasty. Teriayki Beef Sticks: 4-stars. Very solid, I would definitely order these again. I'd also recommend just sliding them off of the stick because it's easier to eat that way, rather than trying to chew around it. Shrimp Lo Mein: 5-stars. I love lo mein and they hit this out of the park. Everything I'd hoped it would be. Chinese Donuts: 3-stars. Upgraded to 4-stars once I microwaved them. Reminded me of cheap fair food. This is definitely a very good option for those that live in the area. White meat chicken was excellent in the dish. Not a mystery meat chicken for sure. The egg roll was hot and tasty. The Tso sauce could have used a bit more kick for my taste, but it was still good. The chicken to rice ratio was kind of odd. I usually get more rice with my combos, but in this case there was more chicken than rice. I could have used a bit more rice as that run out before finishing the chicken. Not necessarily a bad thing for some people, but I like my white rice...always have. Food is fresh and uses quality ingredients. Unfortunately, they have strayed from Asian recipes to pander to the Disney chicken finger crowd. No hot peppers, no nuts, no onions in the General Tso's chicken. Focus on sweet sauces. Pepper Steak with onions had no pepper flavor. If you like bland, expensive and something you can feed to 5 year olds, this is your place. If you want authentic Chinese, you need to look elsewhere. read more

I generally order takeout from their lunch menu and each item I have ordered has been excellent including the chicken lo mein, seasame chicken and General Tso's chicken. Online ordering was a breeze! (Downside; you do have to create an account and cannot check out as guest). Our food was ready within 20 minutes for pickup. Although one of our orders was wrong, the food was very good. Bourbon chicken was on the sweet side, too sweet for me, but the teriyaki chicken, vegetable lo mein, veggie fried rice & sweet and sour chicken were yummy. My parents and I ordered Szechuan Beef, General Tso's Chicken, Chicken Lo Mein, Wonton Soup, Fried Egg Rolls, and fried & white rice. All entrees tasted great. My parents, who had not eaten good local Chinese food in years, seemed ecstatic to have found a new place. Been going here for years but first time posting. It's as close to New York Chinese food that I've found in the Tampa area. I changed up this time from my normal egg foo young and spareribs. I had the combo shrimp with black bean sauce and pork fried rice. So delicious. I still had to get my spareribs. The ribs here are juicy and full of flavor...homesick for NY!!! My family member always gets the pu pu platter. He loves. The family that owns this place is so kind and friendly. It's a big plus for giving repeat business. I ordered from chef li for the first time. I ordered house duck, crab rangoon and chicken noodle soup. The duck was deplorable you can't even eat it it is so dry. They're sweet and sour sauce for the crab rangoon is so watered down and almost non-existent. I have not tried the chicken noodle soup hopefully it is one item that is edible from this order. this was the first and the last time I have ever ordered from them. read more

Let me start out by saying GREAT Chinese food in the area is really hard to come by. I lived in Boston for 10 years and I they had some killer Chinese up there. However, after trying almost every spot here over the last 7 years, Chef Li is in my opinion, is the best chinese in the Palm Harbor/Oldsmar area for sure! I have never had a issue with orders, pick up or delivery. Actually we even moved just outside of their delivery location (unknowingly) & tried placing a order -- they ended up honoring to deliver to us anyway because we ordered from them so often in the past. (THANKS! :)) There is not a dine in option there, it is just a pick up spot which appears to be tight quarters...boxes everywhere. BUT staff has always been helpful & easy to order from. Delivery and pick up has always been on time & hot! Some Chinese food at other places you eat and just feel like garbage after but not this place...it seems pretty good quality! Best Asian food in Oldsmar Safety Harbor area and best I have had in FL. It's takeout only. Kitchen is clean and food is well done. You can tell by the way the ingredients are cut that it is well done. The chow fun is my favorite. Unlike many other take out, they actually give you plenty of protein. Average Chinese take out location (tough to find if you are not looking so just ask when you call in your order). The fried rice was too greasy for me so I did not eat more than few taste bites. I had the cashew chicken which did have a lot of cashews so that was a plus. The sauce was pretty standard and so I wouldn't say it wowed me as the best Chinese ever. Egg roll - I am commenting on it only as others have had empty egg rolls they have noted in their reviews. My egg roll was average so it wasn't empty - I prefer crispy egg rolls and this one was more on the soft/dough side so I did not care for it. If I could give this is zero I would but I can't so. The teriyaki chicken was extremely salty. the crab Rangoon was over cooked and had no flavor, the eggroll I couldn't even finish it only took one bite it was so gross and oily, the sweet-and-sour chicken was soggy. Overall I will never come here again. Even the white rice was gross. I don't know if I got a bad batch of everything but it's just completely weird to me how underwhelming my experience was even though this place was extremely overhyped. Hopefully you guys have a better experience but to me it wasn't which is unfortunate because I wanted to try something new, The only saving grace is that they have large portions but who wants to eat large portions of horrible food? I'm new to the area and Chef Li came highly recommended by my neighbors. We ordered 2 large dinners and were very happy with the flavor and quality. We didn't order ahead though and noticed they were very busy when we walked in. The lady who took our order let us know ahead of time that it would be a 20 minute wait. Very good for take out Chinese food. General Tsos and wonton soup with egg drop is yummy.

Ever since moving to Florida, I haven't been able to find a good Chinese food place and in general have been disappointed by a lot of places I have ordered from. One night, after putting off getting Chinese food for months, I finally gave in and ordered from Chef Li's through UberEats. Reasonably priced and arrived still hot, I was pleasantly surprised with what I got. I ordered the medium spice (recommended on UberEats) Orange Chicken combo with white rice (pictured) and two egg rolls (not pictured). The egg rolls were everything I needed and are always a make or break factor for me, i don't know that I would have changed anything about them. Solid, classic, and decently sized for the price. The medium spice level on the orange chicken equates to not being spicy at all, but not sweet. I have a good spice tolerance, but didn't pick anything up at all. I expect that the spiciest level may actually have a kick, but the flavor was nice and not overly sweet. Upon reheating on my stove, the chicken was saucy enough to reheat really well for great leftovers! My biggest complaints fell into two different areas: The pieces of chicken were HUGE. This made it hard to cut through and eat since it is generally a crunchier shell on orange chicken, when reheating I had to cut each piece into about 4 pieces to make them closer to bite size. The other major complaint falls with communication from the businesses. They added charges without communicating why they were raising my price so I wasn't super stoked there. Overall, I'd probably see myself eating here in the future but will most likely poke around Tampa Bay to see if I can find anything better. read more

Very impressed with the food and appreciate the Covid restriction set up they have for pick up only at this time! I must agree with others that the crab ragoons are lacking with no filling, but other than that, everything was above par. This is the only Chinese place I will order from as the others in the area have gone downhill. The hot and sour soup was a little on the sweet side, but still good. Eggplant with garlic sauce was exactly what you would see in a cooking magazine! Shrimp dishes were not skimpy on shrimp and it tasted very fresh. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more
