Lovely people in this establishment! So glad we stopped by to try some tasty bbq. All the plates come with coleslaw and beans which are tasty, but nothing compared to the meat. Tri-tip - so tender with great flavor. Baby back ribs - deep flavor, tender, and beautiful smoke ring. Ribs came with sauce on the side but I thought they didn't need sauce. Pork belly was tender. Had never had pork belly smoked before but glad we tried a sampling. Only thing I was missing was a slice of white bread. Chef Gregory also shared a sample of the Mac and cheese. He has his own spice blends, and bbq sauce too I believe. You can buy them there as well. Both he and his lady were so friendly to chat with. Best BBQ in SLO north county! I just discovered Gregory's and had a very nice visit with the chef. I recently returned from 3 weeks in Texas eating BBQ all around the state. (Texas knows bbq!) And Chef Gregory's is right up there. If you miss good southern or mid-western smoked BBQ stop in and give Gregory's a try. Not only does he do the California favorite of tri-tip (very smokey and very tender!) he also smokes brisket, both pork and beef ribs, and pork belly. The pork belly sweet chili sauce is fantastic! The cole slaw is unique, tangy and tasty. There is a core menu of items available daily. Off the pit is: Tri-tip Wednesday, brisket Thursday, beef ribs Friday and spare ribs on Saturday. But you can call and ask for any of those special day items to be saved for you to pick up on another day if you can't get there. What a great idea. Gregory was very welcoming and willing to discuss menu items and sauce ingredients. I am Celiac, so I needed to know whether any sauces had gluten. Happily most do not. Wow! What a gem we found when needing to feed 12 people for a last minute dinner. We were met with big smiles and warm welcome and our last minute huge order didn't even worry them. Definitely a takeout spot as there is no eat in, but the food did not disappoint!! I had the bbq pork ribs and the pork belly. So tender and juicy. All too often I find bbq dry but that was not the case. Bbq sauce was very good although not necessarily as the meats were well seasoned. He also has a large selection of flavored peanut brittles. First time I had Chef Gregory's food was at a catered event I held. Everything was amazing, from the smoked prime rib down to the dessert. Chef was a delight too! I kept in touch and couldn't wait for the restaurant to open and try the BBQ. I have tried almost everything on the menu and loved it all. The baby back pork ribs are tender, juicy and so flavorful they don't need BBQ sauce (but his sauce is soooo good). The pulled pork sandwich is a masterpiece of tasty goodness. I could go on but I'd run out of adjectives. I love to pick up my order and take it to the lake or park for a picnic, I always pack a towel because the napkins are no match for the mess ;) read more

Got the beef ribs meal on a Friday. Great all around! Beans, coleslaw, rib, bbq sauce all really good. Only drawback is the location. I really despise what Atascadero has done to its downtown. They arrived looking like they'd been slow-dancing with fire for 12 unholy hours--which I later discovered was roughly accurate. The meat surrendered from the bone with elegant resignation, each bite triggering synapses in my brain that had lain dormant since the last time I experienced something approaching perfection. And then came the pulled pork sandwich--a towering monument to what's still RIGHT with this twisted food landscape. As I sank my teeth into that unholy creation, time briefly stopped. Colors became brighter. The television blaring in the background faded into a distant hum. This wasn't just pork--this was JOURNALISM. This sandwich told a STORY, man, about smoke and time and the strange magic that happens when a true artist communes with fire and flesh. The beans and coleslaw are worthy sides, done well with just the right amounts of everything involved and very fresh, just perfect. Its a great meal and the brown butter cake is worth the time also. Based on one visit - this is a well-needed BBQ joint in SLO County. They were out of ribs when I visited, so I tried the pulled pork sandwich. That was Excellent - a generous portion of superb pork - almost of a shredded consistency. Not fatty or greasy at all. This is a new business that we should support and grow. It is in the new building on El Camino Real - right next to LOL yogurt, and across 5e lot from Marv's gas station. Chef Gregory said more signs are forthcoming. Great outdoor seating, central to A-Town and a good view of the Sunken Gardens and City Hall. Parking is either on street, or in the back (adjacent to the 101). Selection is not always 100%- but that's simply inherent with good bbq, as you can't always predict exactly how much you'll sell in a specific time frame. I want to start off by saying the sandwich was horrible. I had ordered the bbq sandwich and I had told them to put extra bbq sauce and when I had gotten it there was no bbq whatsoever. Second, we were waiting awhile to be acknowledged by the employees it made it seem like we were invisible. Third the coleslaw was a major let down soggy and way too sweet, it tasted like it had been sitting out for days. Beyond disappointing coleslaw, the ribs were tough and lacked a smoky flavor. the sauce was bland, and the service was slow, overall not worth the price. This little bbq joint is a MUST try! Definitely the best bbq in this town and even in SLO county. You can tell the flavors and technique are developed by someone that knows bbq and how to cook. We tried the chicken and ribs with beans, slaw, and cornbread. Everything was excellent. We will definitely be regulars and hope this place sticks around. Tried Chef Gregory's tonight for the first time. Owner was very friendly and we chatted while my food was assembled. Hubby tried the pulled pork sandwich. Said it was very good and he liked it l that it was filling (he had the 8oz meat sandwich). I had the small order of ribs. But it was plenty. The ribs had lots of meat that just fell off the bone. So tender and well seasoned. I also tried the corn bread with green chile. Mmmm. Restaurant is clean, but small. If the weather was nice, I would sit outside, but it's December in North county so, too cold. Brought it home and it was good. We will definitely go again. read more
