We tried this for the first time today and both left happy and full! We both already have things in mind to try on our next visit.

My friends and I wanted to try some European food while we were in the Tucson area and boy we were pleasantly surprised! Chef Alisah's serves delicious Bosnian food! We have never had Bosnian food before and chose several different items to share. We first got the Bosnian soda, Cockta (1.5 L) it tastes like a delectable herbal Coke. Then we got one of the appetizers: Bosnian Style Tzatziki and Ajvar (Vegetable Spread). The Tzatziki sauce was super good and tasted very fresh and light. It was smooth and we loved the taste and texture. It was also our first time trying Ajvar, which was a sweet and flavorful spread. After trying it, we really wanted to learn to make it ourselves because it was that good! These two sauces tasted perfect with the bread that was served alongside it! We ordered the 2 person Surprise Platter (we were a group of three and wanted to order another dish to try too and also ordered the Cabbage dish.) And wow. We can see why this dish was called the surprise platter. At first the cabbage salad (perfectly dressed with the right amount of sour) came out. Right after that the Surprise Platter came out. We couldn't help but exclaim with surprise by the gigantic size of that thing! WOW! It came with broccoli/carrots with cheese, kebab, chicken, gyro with Tzatziki sauce, beef sausages, and chicken sausages. It was one of the best things I have had in a while. Everything on that platter was delicious. The beef sausages were delicious and tasted great with the bread served. The chicken was moist and perfectly seasoned. Best of all was the kebab! We thought we could soldier through and finish the entire thing but there was so much food we had to take more than half of it home! (Yum! Leftovers!) The Cabbage dish was also super delicious! When it came out, the delightful smell of the dish captivated us! The rice was really good but a bit salty. The cabbage tasted buttery soft and melted in the mouth. Combined, the dish was perfect. It left us wanting more! We loved the food here so much that we ordered the baklava to-go to eat later at home since we were too stuffed to eat anything else at the moment. We went home and tried the baklava and it was just the perfect amount of sweet and syrupy. One of the better baklavas that I've had. The server was awesome and very sweet and the owner even came out to see how we were doing. The service was amazing and we would come back to this place just for that! If I'm ever near Tucson, I will definitely be returning here to try more of their dishes!!! read more

A nice family-run joint serving bosnian food. I find Bosnian cuisine as one of the most flavorful European cuisines, perhaps because of its eastern influences and was really happy to find Chef Alisah's in Tucson. Food was awesome and service was even more awesome. The owners and our server were so sweet and full of hospitality. We felt at home while eating here. Portions are huge, so we had a lot of left overs. They have several vegetarian options as well. We had the grilled chicken breasts and another chicken recipe with mushroom sauce. I loved the grilled chicken breasts more, it was oretty flavorful. They had cut the breast into pieces, so it was easy to eat and I was super happy that I didn't have to go on a battle with a knife and fork. I also love the bosnian bread, its so soft and tasty, just melts in your mouth. It is also pretty filling, so go easy on it. The cabbage salad served with one of the entrees was also pretty good. Never would I have imagined finding an authentic Bosnian restaurant in Tucson, let alone one that has gained accolades from Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, as well as a number of local newspapers and magazines! This cozy, family-run spot (located in a nondescript office block) was a great place to experience the flavors of the Balkans. We started with an appetizer of Sarma u Japraku, or warm grape leaves stuffed with a mixture of rice, onions, and garlic, served with a side of tzatziki! We also got a side dish of Ajvar, a sweet vegetable dip made with red bell peppers, onions, eggplant, and tomatoes, served with toasted slices of an Eastern European-style bread. But the real reason to come to Chef Alisah's is for the meat dishes, including their famous Cevapi. These homemade ground beef sausages were perfectly grilled and had a slightly chewy texture. The sausages were a bit on the greasy side and were served with a fluffy homemade bread, tzatziki, and chopped onions. At first I found the food here a bit on the bland side, but one thing not to be missed is their chili sauce, which had a deep red color and added an addicting, spicy depth to every bite of meat, bread, and onions! I had never tried Bosnian food and was excited to try this restaurant out. I ordered the lamb with white beans which was the recommended dish of the day. The lamb was tender, and the white beans had a creamy texture and had soaked up the flavor from the sauce. I also tried some sausages (Cevapi) which had good flavor but were a little too salty for me, and a cabbage roll, which was well seasoned but the filling was too mushy for my tastes. I had my meal with a Bosnian soda. They offer two types: one that tastes like cola and another that tastes like orange. I chose the cola tasting one. It reminded me of a cross between cola and sarsaparilla. Service was decent and either the manager or the owner came by to check up on us which was nice. Overall I enjoyed my dish and if I'm in the area I'll be back to try more from the menu. read more

This place sat in my bookmark list for years -- mostly because I am rarely ever on North Oracle Road. But I finally made the trip up to check out this sweet spot. What luck. This casual Bosnian restaurant is on point! The spot is casual enough for the daylight and evening hours but, with the table settings, can lend itself nicely to date nights (though the lights are always too-too high). It seems to be a good draw for couples and small families. Doesn't seem to get too insanely busy, but does keep a decent stream of customers. On the menu (which is fairly small, comparatively), you will find tufahiju, sarmu, pljeskavicu, sarma, sataras, mahune, riza, grasak, baklava and cevape, which are Bosnian ground beef sausages. Smallest order you can get as an adult is 10 -- so come hungry, or ready to share. Here is my endorsement: get the tzatziki and ajvar and do try the cabbage (dinstani kupus) with butter rice. Good goa! What a perfect combination. The tzatziki does not have even the slightest bit of bitterness to it. It is soft, smooth and creamy. The ajvar (a roasted red pepper spread with a strong hint of eggplant) is much heavier, and complements the tzatziki quite well. The cabbage -- and I do love, love, love cabbage -- was flavored with tomato sauce, carrots, onions and I am not sure what else. So good! And know that the serving sizes are massive. That order alone could have fed two adults, especially when you get extra bread offerings for the tzatziki and ajvar. Also, the Alisha family is quite lovely. Beautiful family running a darling business. I felt like I was part of their extended family. True story. And watch out for specials. For example, the most recent one was a special roast lamb dinner at $17, served with potatoes and bread. read more

Yesterday I was passing it and decided to stop for lunch. Read many positive reviews and decided to try. The lunch hours are 10:30am to 1:30 pm. I was there 1:20pm. The place was nearly empty, may be one or two tables occupied. The owner at the door told me that the kitchen was already closed. I mentioned 1:30pm he told me yes, but kitchen need to be closed at 13:15pm to be cleaned and scrubbed according to rules set by Arizona Health Department. I thought it's a little bit strange but rules are rules. Today was passing it again. Was at the door at 1:05pm. Place was nearly empty again. The owner told me ( I didn't know if he recognized me or not), that kitchen is closed at 13:00pm by rules of Arizona Health Department. I told him 'I was here yesterday, remember? And you told me the kitchen is closed by 13:15". He answered: "The rules of Arizona Health Department are very strict, you know". I answered "I know" turned around andI walked away. It sounded like some sort of a bad joke to me. It would be interesting to arrive at 12:55 pm tomorrow and check how strict are rules of Arizona Health Department this time, do they require the kitchen to be closed at 12:50, for example, but I decided against it. Needless to say nowhere on their website is mentioned anything about kitchen clothing times and also needless to say I am done with this place. read more

Since my first review here roughly 2 months ago I have gone back twice getting a fair amount of new entrées and dishes that I uave never tasted before from Bosnia. The 2nd visit I went for lunch and ordered takeout and got: 1 order of the Sarma U Japraku, 1 piece of Baklava, and 1 extra side of Riza Rice. The Sarma tasted just like Dolma from the Med but hey slightly different at the same time. The Baklava was by far the best I've ever had in my life! On the 3rd visit which was only a few days ago I decided to order a few more new things that were highly recommended on their menu: the Cevapi Sausages and the Wienerschnitzel Chicken. I have to say these both were probably the best entrée dishes within the restaurant. The wienerschnitzel was cooked perfectly which also came with a side cabbage salad, riza rice, and bread. This is also a place the famous Guy from Food Network came to while in Tucson and emphasized how good this place was... well after 3 trips here and trying half their menu I can agree with Guy on this places cultural and diverse culinary uniqueness. read more

Tonight my family wanted something comforting but not too heavy, flavorful but not greasy, and Chef Alisah's was the perfect choice to make everyone happy. We got the goulash and the chicken with mushroom sauce, which came with cabbage salad, rice, and homemade bread. Our takeout order was ready in only 15 minutes, which was really nice. After eating, both entrees were so good that it was impossible for any of us to pick a favorite. The chicken was so creamy and savory, and the meat in the goulash was perfectly tender. They were both flavorful but also delicate in a way, so they don't make you feel sluggish or too full after eating. The rice is very fluffy, so it's perfect to pair with all of the sauce (but if there's still sauce left at the end, the bread is also a very tasty way to clean your plate). They are absolutely delicious. I could eat their beef and mushroom dish every day. Its creamy, buttery, and delicious. Comfort in a dish. Their cabbage salad, albeit simple, is strangely addictive. Its yummy and flavorful to munch on before the main course because I always finish it minutes after it gets on the table. And oh...their buttery bread. Spread with tzatziki and onions and then sausages. Now that's something else. Almost comes close to beating their beef and mushroom stroganoff type dish, but that is still my favorite item there with the buttery and delicious rice. Oh so good. read more

The evening started with a waitress who had an awful attitude and the waiter wasn't much better. The service was slow and sloppy. The cook was outside chain smoking for over 25 minutes while we waited for the doors to open. He told us to pick menu items 2 through 5 as they were the best and prepared to order and fresh. They were not fresh and the bread was old hard stale bread made with rancid oil and there was no butter to be found to go with it. The food was lacking in every way and not the masterpiece we were led to believe would be experiencing. I would recommend this place to anyone I liked. read more

For years, we have heard about how good this locally owned restaurant was. But life got in our way (babies, time, a move to another city, etc) and we were never able to go until this weekend! Chef Alisah's did not disappoint! First of, having not read any yelp reviews prior, we were surprised that The Food Networks' Diners, Drive ins & Dives had visited them! Extra points! My husband wanted to order the lamb shank but I was able to convince him to be adventurous and order their version of a prix fixe menu, "Chef Alisah's surprise plate" for two. * First course - simple cabbage salad with rthis light, amazing dressing * plate of bread - even if you don't eat carbs, you Have to try it! The homemade white bread might look like just French bread, but it's so much more then that! And the rye bread?...to die for! * then came the main course platter! O M Goodness! It was big enough to serve a King and five of his attendants! There was so much, I'm sure that I'm missing a few items, but there was seasoned tomatoes, grilled onions, four chicken breasts, house made chicken sausage stuffed with red peppers and cheese, two ground beef shish kabobs (my favorite!), gyro meat with tzatziki, the sausages he featured on the Food Network,...all served over two types of flavorful rice and cheesy broccoli and cauliflower! * soup - a minute after the large platter of food was delivered, the Chef came out and brought out two bowls of bean and meat soup. He proclaimed that it's what he makes his family and since we were like family, he wanted us to try it. He also said it was good for the stomach. All I can say is that it really did feel like Home and felt good to the soul. Throughout dinner, the Chef, his son and the buser was so attentive, nice and checked on us often. When I told the Chef that the meal was one of the best I've had, but that my favorite was the soup, he surprised me later by bringing me a to go container of the soup to go. Aww! We finished off with a cup of Bosnian coffee. It was just what we needed to get us off our food coma!
