We called ahead and got no real acknowledgment, and when we arrived, no one greeted us or even looked our way. We ended up seating ourselves, and still--nothing. No service, no eye contact, no basic hospitality. What made it even more uncomfortable was that we appeared to be the only Black couple in the entire place, and the lack of acknowledgment made us feel completely unwelcome. It honestly felt like stepping back into a time where people were judged and ignored based on how they looked. That's not a feeling anyone should experience anywhere in 2026. We didn't cause a scene--we simply got up and left. But the experience stuck with us. Businesses should be places where everyone feels respected and acknowledged, regardless of who they are. I hope this place takes a serious look at how they treat ALL customers, because no one deserves to feel invisible or uncomfortable just for walking through the door.

It was a Wednesday night and the skies were about to open up, but I was surprised when we arrived that it was completely empty. Right away we loved the decor, but I was confused as to where everybody was. The bartender came out and let us know that it was just a particularly slow night and offered us a menu. We decided to stay to have our newly found private bar all to ourselves. Some people pay big money for that. After ordering, we admired more of the tiki decor and took a seat at one of the cozy tables across from the bar. They drinks came and not only did they taste great but they looked great too. My friends drink came in a giant gold owl. After chatting more with the bartender he found out it was our first night in town and shared an iphone not with me showing all his recommendations for more great spots to check out on our trip. I was planning on brining some friends in over the weekend, but we never ended up in Starland on Friday. I will definitely come back when I'm in town.

The cocktails came in really cool tiki mugs that made for excellent pictures, and many of the mugs are available for purchase if you want to take home a little souvenir. The servers were also fantastic--friendly, attentive, and quick to keep the drinks flowing. The only real downside is that the décor is fairly light on the tiki atmosphere, and the experience could have used some proper tiki music in the background. Still, the drinks and service more than made up for it. There was also a rather unusual incident during our visit. A man burst into the bar wearing a giant bucket hat with a buckle and began demanding that everyone be arrested for witchcraft. He kept shouting, "You're all witches!" despite our repeated assurances that we were simply enjoying cocktails. I told him to calm down, but he refused. So, after finishing my fourth drink, I raised my glass and began reciting the menu backward. Suddenly, a bright blue light enveloped him. He screamed, vanished completely, and left behind nothing but the faint smell of coconut rum. Everyone in the bar applauded, and I was rewarded with free stickers and a drink stirrer. She asked four young adults for IDs. One woman didn't have and the bartender said no service. Young woman started screaming and cursing. We thought there might be a fist of cuffs.
