Salt and Pepper with BBQ sauce on it from prior customers (we wiped off the top)
Cory S.

My friends and I were looking for some food to grab for an early dinner near where we were staying, and we came across a Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen. Having never actually gone to one but having seen them at home previously, we thought we'd give it a try, especially with attractive dishes and good prices. We stopped by around 5 PM for an early dinner on a Monday evening. The service itself was very good as was the food, though the cleanliness of the restaurant, the seating area, the silverware, and condiments (including salt and pepper) were abysmal. I would have rated the service and food at 4 but the cleanliness at a 1; I gave an average rating of 3. While I can see some of what we experienced being a reason to walk away, we didn't notice have of this until after we ordered food, and again, the service and food itself were very good. We had no wait to be seated nor did we need a reservation. There is a waitlist feature on their website (https://www.cheddars.com/wait-list). Our server was very helpful and checked on us regularly. Early after we ordered food, a plate of complimentary buttered croissants arrived which were delicious! I think that may have been the highlight of my meal. As the food is marketed as "homestyle comfort food," I decided to order the top sirloin steak (8 oz) with two side choices. I chose broccoli for one side and paid for the second side to be upgraded to a side Caesar salad. The broccoli was well-seasoned, the steak was juicy and tasty, and the salad was as good as any side Caesar. Did I mention I loved the buttered croissants!? We unfortunately had one cleanliness issue after another. There was a dirty fork until my seat. The salt and pepper shakers were covered with barbecue sauce (which we wiped off the tops) but we didn't bother cleaning the sides. We were given clean silverware wrapped in a napkin but one of our silverware sets had crusty dirt leftover from other diners. We asked for a replacement of that. We get that these things happen but this seemed like a consistent issue at this restaurant. You can join the Cheddar's eClub for member-only offers, scratch cooking tips, and more by going to https://www.cheddars.com/customer-service/join-eclub. Just for signing up, you'll also receive free chips and homemade queso. You also receive a special birthday treat on your birthday. All in all, the prices are great, the food is great, the promotions are good, and the service is good. But I may think twice before dining at this location due to the cleanliness issues we experienced.

Country Fried Chicken

Very obviously one of my favorite restaurants in this area. We come here often for lunch and dinner and the service is always good and fast. The only thing I wish they could improve is there there have been a few times when they are out of certain foods/ side dishes. Other than that, I really enjoying eating here!

Chicken pot pie and coleslaw
Jason Z.

Temperatures are dropping so decided to go for a chicken pot pie. The server was very friendly and attentive. Food came out quickly. I ordered coleslaw for my side to accompany my chicken pot pie. Normally the chicken pot pie is very good but today was not that day. Not sure what happened but it wasn't as good as it usually is. Have been coming here for years. Normally great food but. Might've just been an off day.

Came in for dinner today since I haven't been here in a while and it was definitely a great experience for me the steak was cooked perfectly medium well the green beans and broccoli was delicious and the unsweetened tea tasted fresh my server Issac was awesome he always made sure my drinks were full and made sure to repeat my order back to me and he was moving around quickly because they were busy but he was busting his ass off One of the best experiences I've had 10/10 must try again

I guess they NEVER clean the tables, we were sitting for 21 minutes. The food was good, but the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE....
Maria S.

WORST customer service. Sat for 21 minutes until we got tired of waiting so we had to call a manager. The edge of the table was so dirty FULLLLLLL of crumbs.

Cheese & Bacon French Fries

Poor service food came out wrong burger still raw and fries was cold and so was the Queso. Server never attend to us either waited over 30 to 40 minutes for food that's shouldn't have took long order a Maui margarita server said only rocks and then on top of that my drink took 30 minutes as well to bring it to me and her bar top wasn't busy I've worked 7+ years in the food industry as a server n bartender and never gave anyone poor service like this never again to return then found something in my burger and have no idea what it is never got refills as well never gave us her name either !!!! Horrible service ever I even set a timer and timed our service

The Original Classic Burger

The location of this cheddar did not disappoint. The staff was friendly and well-mannered. All of the food was served fresh and promptly. The burger I ordered was juicy and delicious.

Chicken Tender Platter (No. 8 Special)
Kylie N.

Came here around 4 pm with a group of three and was seated immediately. They were very accommodating consider in we wanted a table for my friends grandmother. The service was quick and the portion size of the food was surprisingly big. I got myself the New Orleans pasta and the other two people I was with got the chicken tenders platter. Our food was either plain or very salty, but it could just be an off day. I would come back if I were in town again.

Carrot Cake
Aj G.

Highlight was the carrot cake. It was delicious. Really satisfied my sweet tooth. Big enough to share. It was awesome. Will definitely come back to try another desert.

I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was really good! Of course the crescents were the bomb, but the coconut shrimp were amazing.

We enjoyed some of their IPAs and began with grilled oysters which were delicious with quite the kick and their chilled cucumbers which were nice but would have been better if they were cut into smaller pieces as each piece was an entire spiral from the length of a cucumber - but they were still delicious! I got the snapper throats which is my absolute standout dish off their menu, my husband had the pork and my kids enjoyed the calamari and their pressure cooked chicken with biscuits - with their delicious house salad as a side as one is more than enough for 4! Perfect spot for Father's Day!

We walked thru the entire restaurant looking for the host stand (missed the main door) and it's so cool and historic inside, they have a long history there and are now Michelin rated. We sat outside, the little seating area is shaded. We started with drinks, i had the frozen pearlita which was so refreshing during the hot sticky weather. We also tried the seafood platter which was awesome. I had the snapper throat and crab Mac and cheese as my meal, it was so much food and so good. I didn't need extra fat from avocado after the corn cakes since it doesn't add much flavor to the dish. The corn cakes are good and I will order again but not as good as some other cornbread. It came with 2 cakes. One was undercooked and one has a crispy crust. The undercooked one was my favorite. It is more moist with soft in the middle. Tuna Al Pastor has a kick but nothing special. Tres Leches was beautiful. 4/5. I like the fresh fruits to cut down the sweetness. The cake was a bit in the dense side. The icing on top was thick. I wish it was a fluffy whip cream to cut down from all the sweetness. Overall it's still a better tres leches than other places in the area.

It was probably our most favorite place that we ate while in San Antonio. The ambiance was great, beautifully decorated restaurant with great service. The cocktails were delicious so we had a few. The food was flavorful and unique. We had a wonderful dinner with my family at Carriqui.

We arrived around 5pm on a Thursday and got in queue which was out the door and wrapping around the front porch. Their host/doorman was kind, he offered the line water on many occasions and made pleasantries with almost all guests as the line moved. It was a hot day so those waters were clutch. By the time we made it to the front of order line maybe 40 minutes had passed. But ladies and gents the wait is worth it. When we plated our trays on the table my family all had heart eyes, and had equally loved our first bites. Their brisket is extremely tender. It's beautifully sliced and made for an amazing welcome back to the South taste for me. I was in heaven. I particularly enjoyed having the fresh pickled red onion for fresh, zesty cuts through the abundance of other saltier elements on the plate. Their menu is slammin! Their sides, and sausages all had crafty ingredients. I enjoyed their spicy link options and their macaroni was delightful. Their BBQ sauce was a nice 4/5 but certainly did the job. As a native Texan who's had their fair share, this was easily some of the best barbecue I've ever had. Top 5 top 5 top 5. I'm of course coming back and looking forward for more banana cream pudding especially. They were small, slightly sweet, and had great balance with the vanilla wafer ratio. That whip cream on top too had me hooked. I couldn't have asked for a better welcome back meal for the bold Texas cuisine, hospitality, and novelty animal and cowboy decor.

The cabbage was somewhat spicy, the cornbread muffin was a half muffin, the muffin did not fill up the cupcake muffin wrapper. But the fried catfish, fried chicken wings and yams were on point, I would order the catfish and chicken wing plate to go anyday! The peach cobbler was very sweet. My daughter ordered meatloaf, a pork chop plate, Mac & cheese, collard greens, cornbread muffin, a tropical punch beverage and banana pudding which I felt the pudding was watered down vs. being thick. She asked for medium cooked pork chops and one pork chop was medium and one pork chop was over cooked. She notified the cashier and he stated they both were cooked at temp the same time. The collard greens were spicy and the Mac & cheese were watered down. I had to go to the restroom. This was the worst restroom in any restaurant I have ever used. First, there was no light on, I had to ask for light and one of the employees turned on the light. Secondly, there was an awful hole in the top right corner ceiling, I was afraid to use the restroom for fear of some bug crawling in through the ceiling hole. Third, there was also a hole in the wall visible behind the toilet tank top, again I was afraid to set down on the toilet and the whole bathroom decor was unappealing. When other patrons described this establishment as as "HOLE IN THE WALL" they were absolutely correct. Don't forget about the hole in the ceiling! Entering into the building, the walls and ceiling were black, making the atmosphere sad. There was also a small bar to the left of the dining area. But the kicker for me was, our two meals, two beverages, and two desserts cost $61!!! As many Soul Food Restaurant I have eaten in with my daughter for two people, I have never been charged so much for two soulfood meals with two beverages and two desserts. RECOMMEDATION: Of course my palate is different from other customers, but I would never return to the establishment due to being over charged for two meals, two beverages, two desserts and the lady's restroom was the pits.

Great BBQ Before or After Sightseeing…read more Smoke Shack has become one of our go to spots whenever we have guests visiting. It is the perfect stop after showing friends and family the Alamo and the River Walk before heading back home. Just be prepared for a line because every time we have gone, there is usually one. It moves, but it is definitely part of the experience. Our go to items are always the lip smacking brisket. We order a pound of regular and a quarter pound of lean. Both are tender and flavorful. The ribs and sausage are also solid choices. For sides, we rotate between the well seasoned green beans, mac and cheese, beans and okra. All of them are excellent and you really cannot go wrong. Side note. I am not a fan of their corn. I prefer corn that leans sweet rather than spicy, so it is not my favorite. Next time I go, I already know what I want to try. Either the Brisket Sandy or the Brisket Grilled Cheese. Both look incredible. Smoke Shack is always a reliable stop for good Texas BBQ and a great place to bring visitors for an authentic taste of San Antonio.

EVERYTHING I just mentioned was fresh, delicious, and ON POINT and I had enough food left over for dinner and a little leftover for the next day. I definitely got my money's worth. I went there after reading the reviews and having a taste for barbecue chicken. Unfortunately, there was no barbecue chicken or anything I planned to purchase while checking out the menu at the airport. However, I have no regrets and I will be back when I'm in the area. Service: I called while at the airport to make sure they had chicken and I was told yes. I immediately headed straight to the restaurant from the airport. It was my first visit to this restaurant and to be honest, I was a bit disappointed with the service. I wasn't immediately acknowledged. They ran out of everything I planned to purchase between the time I called and drove to the restaurant from the airport (short ride). The area where the condiments are stored was not as clean or organized as it should have been for a restaurant. There seemed to be enough staff to take care of it while I was there. Staff I came in contact with were nice and acknowledged with a smile when I was at my table. There is an area before arriving to the restroom that was not as clean as it should have been. The garbage can was running over with trash. Atmosphere: Loud, joyful, and family friendly environment. I met a family who were looking for a place to sit. I invited them to sit with me and it was great! I will be back the next time I am in the San Antonio area. I'm thinking positively . If you're in the area, check them out and give them a try. I did and I don't regret it. My next visit will be better.
