Menudo, just terrible..
Wayne B.

Garibaldi's has been relocated from Hwy 90 and Pinn Rd to a former Bonanza Steakhouse on Military Hwy. it's right next door to Bill Miller's. Can't miss it. Went there for lunch with my old supervisor before I retired. Ordered the Mexican plate dinner, two enchiladas, rice and fantastic refried beans. That was enough, then came the tostada and crispy taco which I had to take with me. I saw in the menu that they have menudo, but I eat menudo on Saturdays, so that will be my next visit. It's Saturday and giving the menudo a try. Well major disappointment, the menudo has funky taste, like dishwater... Poured all the serrano peppers and onions to help it, but to no avail. Even added plenty of salsa verde. Nope doesn't work. Oh well the menudo is off the list. So far the Mexican plate still rules! Going to have to smoke plenty of cigars today to get the aftertaste out of my mouth!

This review has been long overdue and you can tell from the half eaten burger, I forgot to take a before picture of my plate. Yes, I ordered a burger at a Mexican restaurant but the burgers are delicious along with with their tacos, menudo, caldo and my mother in law's favorite, mole. This is a family establishment and you are welcomed with warm greetings by the host and get great service. I give this place five stars for the delicious and fresh food, clean restaurant, great service and well my 7 year old gave two thumbs up!!

We been coming to this restaurant for years. The location has changed but still same owner. They have I think 2 more locations and the carna quisada always taste the same awesome mmmmmmmm. Well looks like the older lady with curly hair ( Della) on the register is very unhappy with her job. Worst customer service ever she thru my credit card receipt didn't even thank me or wish me a happy holidays. I think management needs to look into getting her customer service classes if not they will lose lots of paying customers.

Depending on the time you go, there could be a line at/out the door. Luckily we came early enough to avoid that. If you're grabbing a pastry, you order that from the person behind the pastry counter, otherwise head to the register to order your drinks and other items. On my visits I tried the Tres Leches Matcha, cold foam banana nut latte, Oreo concha, jalapeno sausage croissant, Grilled Chicken Bowl (with half salad mix + half white rice/veggies). Out of the two drinks I ordered, I preferred the banana nut latte more. The cold foam was soooo good and the latte contained just the right pickmeup. The Tres Leches matcha was good, but a little sweeter than I'd like it to be. The concha was tasty - not to sweet! The jalapeno sausage croissant was good - definitely more filling than I thought it would be. The salad was absolutely delicious and worth the price. My bowl was packed with goodness and wasn't soggy by the time I ate it for lunch! They didn't skimp on anything and it came with a side of tasty bread. This salad is a must here! Friendly service and plenty of tables. If you order anything besides pastries, you'll get a number and your order will be brought to the table.

Wedding Anniversary Brunch at Box St. All Day…read more Yesterday, my husband and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary with brunch at Box St. All Day. After previewing the restaurant the evening before, we knew we had to try the Eggs Benedict with added chicken, chilaquiles with shredded pork, and twice-fried chicken. We arrived shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Thursday and were welcomed by our hostess, who let us choose our seats. Our waiter, Richard, introduced himself and when we mentioned our anniversary, he returned with two complimentary glasses of champagne garnished with gold-flecked raspberries! His genuine congratulations immediately made us feel special. He also shared menu recommendations and helped us choose our drinks: a Moscato for me and a refreshing raspberry drink for my husband. The restaurant's lively atmosphere, soft boho-inspired decor, and beautiful presentation were perfect for a warm fall afternoon. Our food arrived quickly, and everything was delicious. The twice-fried chicken was our favorite, with the chilaquiles a close second! Each dish looked as good as it tasted. Richard truly made the experience memorable. He checked on us regularly without being intrusive and made sure we felt celebrated throughout the meal. We were so impressed that we asked to speak with his supervisor, Spencer, to share our appreciation. Spencer was grateful for the feedback, and it was wonderful to see him helping the team deliver dishes to customers, a reflection of the restaurant's strong leadership and culture. Richard also noticed my military identification when I presented my credit card. Although I had forgotten to ask about the military discount, he took the initiative to verify my eligibility and apply it. As a retired Army veteran, I deeply appreciated the thoughtful gesture. Box St. All Day, you have something special here! The food, atmosphere, and exceptional service made our first wedding anniversary brunch one we will cherish. Thank you to Richard and Spencer for making us feel so appreciated and welcome. We will definitely be returning!

Schilo's is a San Antonio institution, and after eating here, I understand why it's still thriving. I was told before going that the split pea soup was a must. They were right. Thick, hearty and packed with flavor. This is serious split pea soup. The kind that eats more like a meal than an appetizer. And then there was the pumpernickel bread served alongside it. Oh boy. Give me a loaf of that bread, some butter and a quiet corner and I could have happily called it dinner. But that would have meant missing the Taste of Germany. The schnitzel was excellent. Crispy, tender and exactly what I was hoping for. The cabbage was another winner and paired beautifully with it. The wurst? Unfortunately, that was the weak link for me. It just didn't have much flavor on its own. Add some of their spicy mustard and it comes alive, but I shouldn't need mustard performing CPR on my sausage. Beyond the food, Schilo's is just a cool place to experience. There's history everywhere, the atmosphere has character and you get the feeling that you're eating somewhere that has been part of San Antonio forever. A very solid four stars. Probably 4 1/2 if Yelp would let me. Go check it out. It's absolutely worth it. Just maybe not wurst it! ‍

I also appreciate that we got to order a side of potatoes without the seasoning for the kids to enjoy while waiting for our food, but to be honest, our food arrived very quickly. My daughter also enjoyed looking at the art around the restaurant. It kept her busy for a while in between coloring her kids menu sheet. Compared to my previous experience with DoorDash, eating here in person makes a world of difference, ESPECIALLY with the beignets. When they're fresh, they're the most incredible thing in the world, I swear. I ordered the cortado (because my mission is to taste every cortado in the city) and their brunch plate - it had scrambled (seasoned!) eggs, delicious grits, two fried green tomato slices, and the most insanely delicious and decadent praline bacon. I also ordered the beignets. My friend ordered their take on the eggs Benedict and a cup of the smoked duck gumbo. We each got to try a little bit of each other's dishes and I just can't believe how insanely flavorful it all was. I had a little bit of the gumbo get into my eggs and it was divine. The grits were my favorite grits I've ever had. The bacon tasted more like a dessert. The beignets were so soft, so light, so pillowy. DoorDash delivery does them such a disservice. This is a spot you need to experience in person in order to 'get it.' I can't wait to come back. I think we have a winner to add to our regular brunch rotation.

A Perfect Return to Where Our Forever Began My husband and I…read moregot married at Hotel Valencia one year ago, so getting to return this weekend to celebrate our first wedding anniversary was incredibly special. As part of our wedding package, they were incredibly generous and included two complimentary nights at the hotel and dinner at Dorrego's for us to celebrate. They are truly the absolute best at what they do and really know how to celebrate their guests! Returning to the very place where we said "I do" was already emotional enough, but Hotel Valencia somehow made the experience even more memorable than our first stay. From the moment we arrived, the staff was exactly as we remembered them: kind, attentive, professional, thoughtful, and genuinely wonderful. Our room was absolutely gorgeous, and when we walked in on our first day, we found the sweetest surprise waiting for us: a bottle of champagne, chocolate-covered strawberries, and a congratulations message written in chocolate on the plate. I actually teared up a little! It was such a thoughtful and adorable gesture that truly made us feel seen, celebrated, and cared for. There is something so special about Hotel Valencia. The environment is exceptional, the service is always outstanding, and even their gorgeous signature scent instantly brings us back to memories of love, celebration, and adventure. Every little detail feels intentional and memorable. I am so incredibly thankful that we chose Hotel Valencia as the place to celebrate both our wedding and our first anniversary. It will forever hold such a special place in our hearts, and we cannot wait to return again and make even more memories there. Thank you, Hotel Valencia, for helping make two of the most meaningful celebrations of our lives absolutely unforgettable!

The location is perfect step out the front door and you're right in downtown San Antonio. From the hotel restaurant, you can take the stairs or elevator directly down to the River Walk, which makes getting around so easy and convenient. What we especially loved is that this hotel has so much character and charm. It doesn't feel like one of those cookie-cutter chain hotels. We had a balcony, although it was simply too hot during our visit to sit outside and enjoy it. I'm sure it would be wonderful on a cooler evening! The bar and restaurant were both excellent, and the entire staff was friendly and welcoming. A special shout-out to the valet guys they provided wonderful service and were always so helpful. Great location, beautiful atmosphere, delicious food and drinks, and exceptional service. We would definitely stay here again when we're back in San Antonio!
