I have adored Cheddars since I was a child and was sad when the only one in Indianapolis burned down and was never rebuilt. I was ecstatic to hear there was one in Avon and have made a 30 minute drove that was well worth it. The prices are very reasonable, the atmosphere is VERY nice and the food tastes excellent. The only reason I am giving it a 4 out of 5 is due to the slowness of service. We were sat down immediately but it took 15 minutes for someone to come and take a drink order although it is not very crowded. Horrible experience, yes it was a Saturday night, yes they were busy... but after placing a mobile order we waited 1 hour at curbside pickup. When the food did finally come, the mashed potatoes had a hard film on top and the toast was a giant crouton. To make matters worse, I didn't order mashed potatoes, or the side of rice I was given. The packaging even had a sticker on the lid that states loaded potatoes and Broccoli rice casserole....I got neither. Country fried steak was also supposed to have gravy but...nope, not tonight. I have always loved eating at cheddars. Tonight changed that for me at the Cheddars in Avon, Indiana. We had seven people in our party two children and five adults. We were hungry, so ordering full meals, appetizers and had alcoholic beverages. I will go ahead and add that I was completely polite the entire time. Our waitress was polite as well. We got our drinks and appetizers in a timely manner. We also got our food in a timely manner however a cook or chef brought us the food and had no idea where any of the food was going. He was short with us and rude! One of the children spilled her drink so we proceeded to clean up as much of it as possible and the waitress said she would be back with a towel or something to help with the rest. That never happened. My husband ordered the ribeye and it was flavorless. Even the broccoli casserole that we love so much was mediocre. Don't get me started on the burgers, the bun taste like cardboard and was just all around not good. The spinach dip was good. The fries were good. The bill was $150 and we still tipped 20%. Just feeling like the food and the service is going downhill or maybe it's just at this location. Not sure if I'll be back to Cheddars for a while. Disappointing actually, as it was one of my favorites. I do think that most of this could have been overlooked if the man serving our food wasn't so rude and didn't know what he was doing. He could've still not known what he was doing and we would've been OK with it but rudeness is horrible when you are paying money for a good meal. I want to love this place so much. I have great memories of visiting the one that was located on 38th Street before it burnt down. The food at the Avon location is great and the price really is amazing. The chicken fingers dinner portion is insane - at least 3 meals worth of food. However, the service continues to be a complete disaster at every visit. We have eaten there twice now and each visit resulted in slow service. You ask for something and the server never returns with it. You order an appetizer and before you can even finish the first few bites of it, the salad is there, and then dinner arrives within 2 minutes after that. We had so many plates on our table, we didn't have room for everything. At our last visit, the people next to us had been waiting for 45 minutes for their food - which was a salad and soup combo. Again, food is SUPER and price is AMAZING - but with service this bad - you simply can't enjoy the visit. Bummer....... read more

I really wanted to like this place more than I did. The decor/atmosphere was great the food was pretty good but, the service and wait was a bit over the top. Here is the break down. Decor/Atmosphere-was probably the best part of the experience. It felt comfy and bustling at the same time.The lighting made this place actually feel like a hip place downtown or something. I know a lot of people think the big ass fan in the middle of the dining room is the greatest thing ever. I thought it was ok but, the mixture of the cold coming in from out side mixed with the circulation of the air, kept the place a little on the chilly side. Food-I had the ribs and fried shrimp w/ salad and fries. Ribs were pretty good (a lot better than I expected), fries had a season salt on them that was not over powering and not too heavily salted (I can't stand super salty fries). The fried shrimp kind of weirded me out it seem all smashed and contorted before they applied the tempera batter. I was finding bits of tail in the middle of the shrimp and it was still attached. I don't know what that was all about it was just strange. The boyfriend had the steak and grilled shrimp w/ broccoli and mashed potatoes. He said it was all pretty good no complaints. No major raves. Drinks-Maui Margarita was interesting. At first it was very refreshing but it a few sips in it was soo sour. The cactus shot that comes with it was pretty good. I didn't shoot but sipped and ended up dumping the rest in the actual drink. Though the portion was good size I probably not get it again. -The painkiller-its a coconut drink over ice. I'm not a fan of coconut or even milky-esc alcohol drinks, the boyfriend loved it and had the stores limit of 2. Service-this was on a Friday night at 8 PM -I get that they are busy and there were lots of people there but, it took a good 45 minutes before we received our main entrees. I received my salad in an expected amount of time. Our waiter on the other hand came around very sparsely. I am someone who prefers a wait staff who is not excessively at our table ( i usually tip better if you are not bugging me every 2 minutes) but, this was a little long even for my taste. Overall my visit was ok, the prices were decent but, not that much cheaper if you plan on have a drink with dinner. Food was bland. Very bland. My boyfriend ordered a mojito and the training waitress asked for both of our IDs. I thought it was strange but no bid deal. Five minutes later, we received two mojito drinks. We only wanted one.. So that was annoying. Also, I got the fried catfish and that was just okay. Although, the fish seemed to be very very white like cod white and the "catfish" did not have the texture of one. I asked the waiter and he said it was catfish. I still don't believe him. DON'T GO!!! My sister and I went to Cheddars in Avon on Saturday December 10 at 10:00 p.m. they did not close until 11:00. It took a few minutes for someone to come to the hostess stand to seat us. We were shown to a table with menus and silverware. We waited as different servers walked passed us as they cleaned tables and restocked the pagers. Mind you they all saw us but not one if them said hello, would you like some water, can I take your order, or we'll be right with you. We waited until 10:15 and no one had come back to help us. We got up to leave and stopped at the hostess stand because we heard the staff including the bar because it was empty, we heard them laughing and having fun so my sister yelled "hey is anyone going to help us"? A young lady poked her head out and them went back to having fun with the other workers. So we left. I called the restaurant on Monday December 12 and spoke to the manager and explained what happened. He apologized and said he would send coupons to my email address that I provided for me and my sister. Today is December 19 and I have not received any communication from Cheddars. So I don't plan to patronize them again and no one else should unless you want to be treated like you're invisible or worse yet like you don't matter!! This used to be a great place. We hadn't been in for awhile but went last week because we were in the area. I doubt we'll be going back ever. While the food was okay, the overall experience sucked. The waitress was polite, but seemed to be assigned to tables all over the place. Our appetizer had barely hit the table when our meals were served. We had to flag down a different waiter to check on our drink order. For their prices, I'm surprised they are still so popular due to the poor service. That may be part of the problem - they seem to be managing the place like a fast food restaurant. This was the WORSE service I have ever experience. Our server, Savannah, hardly came to our table. She was too interested in another party, who came after us. She valued their needs above ours completely. We are not picky people. All we need is somebody to check on us every once in a while and keep our drinks filled. Our refills were brought by another server. After that, we sat for 40 minutes with empty glasses. When we received our food, my boyfriend ordered the chicken alfredo. Funny enough, his chicken didn't even come on his pasta. They didn't take the food back, only brought out a disgustingly burnt piece of chicken, so the pasta was cold by then. It was sent back yet again and remade. It wasn't even that good when they remade it, everyone was already finished with their food by the time he got the first remake. I avoided this place when it first opened because it always looked really busy, but we eventually got around to trying it and I am glad we did! As people have mentioned, really nice decor (all the photos on the wall appear to be from Indiana, how cool!) and they have a large variety of menu options. Every time we go though, we get the onion rings...why? Because they are an awesome price and sooo delicious. (I will admit that on our last visit they seemed to not be seasoned at all, so that was disappointing but I am pretty sure it was a random mistake so I am not too worried about it). I have been there 3 separate times and liked all 3 dishes I ordered...the service has also been really nice and attentive bringing me lots of their yummy flavored tea. I was disappointed that it was really cold in the back area where we sat last time though, hopefully they can make sure that is not a reoccurring problem. My fiance and I enjoy going there and so have all of the guests we have brought. On my to-do list is to try the croissants as I have heard they are great! read more

Had really high hopes for this places but really it's just average. The building is pretty nice with a cool fish tank and ceiling fans that remind me of a tropical porch. Service was very quick and the staff is very friendly. I ordered the Key West chicken and shrimp with steamed broccoli and country green beans. The chicken and shrimp were ok. The broccoli was good. The green beans were terrible. They were right out if a can and not much flavor. With dinner we ordered wine - pretty good prices! Their cocktail menu had a number of great options! Soo, it's been a while since my family and I have been to Cheddars. The service has been hit and miss over the years. Well, my son decided that's where he wanted to go for his birthday dinner. Service was HORRIBLE! We arrived at 3:50 on 01/10/20. It took us 24 minutes to get our drinks, another 10 minutes for our nachos.. then 10 minutes later our food came. And of course my steak was supposed to have been medium well- It was still bleeding. Our waitress never came back to check on us, by the time she did everyone else was done and my plate was still full untouched... She offered to go boxes. We collected the check $77.39, we had a $100 gift card, since the balance was $22.61 our waitress got that in a tip. Not because the service was good or the food was cooked to order.... Because we will not return to Cheddars as time and time again you failed us with not only the service but the food. Ate here during the evenings while visiting friends in the area a few years back. Service was horrible, the food was worse and the bartenders expected you to tip more than what your drink costed. If you're from out of town or have a "funny accent" the staff will ask you a million questions. I'm there to eat, not give you my life history. Been here many many times since we have come to Indianapolis in March and the service and food is always incredible, we have never had a bad experience at this establishment, we always sit in the bar in the waiters and waitresses are for the most part attentive to our needs. They always do special little extra things for us and are sociable and friendly. I mean it is a generic chain restaurant but there is something to be said for a good wait staff, but I will say the bartenders are probably not the best trained because when we order mixed drinks one evening they will be at Stout and delicious the next you can't even taste the alcohol in them. Fond memories of a Cheddars near our apartment while living in Detroit in the '90s. Moving across the country 6 times and 25 years later it's nice to be reunited with this one in Avon. It's not quite as formal as our Cheddars was 25 years ago but the family home cooked meal menu selections are still there. Our tab each visit somehow is a surprise, tallying $20-30 less than anticipated. The service typically is way above par and by the end of our meal with the great food and portions we expect a bill of $80-90 but end up most often with a total of $30-40 instead. Yes it's a chain but a big step ahead of Applebee's or similar. In fact my complimentary side salad with entree here was twice as good as the full salad I recently ordered for nearly $20 at St Elmo's owned Burger Study downtown. After 7 or 8 consistent visits over the last 6 months to this Cheddars we feel confident it's no anomaly, and you too can have the same experience. read more

My wife and I love Cheddars! Though some call it over rated, it is a great dine in restaurant with great food and reasonable prices. Known for their burgers, you can walk out spending under $10 for a burger and fries. Their chicken fingers are good, and the Philly cheese steak sandwich is great! We usually take the edge off with their signature drink, the painkiller. It's a cocoanut rum, schnapps, orange juice and maybe tequila. They limit you to 2, but often bend the rules. ;^) The ambiance is cool. Not overly lit, but not depressing dark. Very soothing. I like looking at the oversized horizontal ceiling fans and relaxing. The food here is good, the portions are huge, and the prices are low. All of those things are key for my husband! We signed up for their emails and got a free app so we went in and got an app and shared a gigantic entree and both left very full. The wait time if you go during lunch on a weekday is surprisingly long even when they don't seem very busy. Weekends are pretty long waits if you don't have reservations. Cheddars instantly grabs your attention when you enter. It gives off this array of an upscale sophistication. The eatery is beautiful on the outside radiating elegance. Inside is spacious and towering over in the ceiling is a leaf-like fan. It was a neat sight. You would think from the looks of this place it would be expensive, but it's not and the food is delicious. I ordered the chicken tender platter with fries and broccoli during my visit. I received so much for my buck at Cheddars! It was a dinner portion of their famous breaded tenders served with a sweet and tangy honey mustard sauce and two sides. The chicken was zesty and there was plenty to go around. Trust me I never have left over chicken tenders, but with their portion size I did. The fries were yummy. The broccoli was fresh and was accompanied with tasteful seasoning. So great! My guests also enjoyed Cheddars saying that they enjoyed the pricings, options and service. This was our first visit and we are hooked. Our food was delicious! Our steaks were cooked exactly as ordered, the mashed potatoes were flavorful and the broccoli casserole had just the right ratio of cheese to broccoli. The staff was cheerful and patient even though it is Valentine's Day and the restaurant was packed. There was an awesome fish tank that made for a nice conversation piece. I walked thru the door and was seated in 1.25 minutes my son's birthday was today and I was blown away with the level of VIP lunch service. I am glad I was able to substitute the bread for broccoli after the server wanted to up charge me. I am so happy that the server had all her teeth and clean hygiene. Went on an early Sunday afternoon. Not overly busy so we were seated right away. Was very noisy. Hard to hear our very soft spoken waiter. He was nice and attentive on refilling our drinks. Drink I originally ordered(strawberry lemonade) was not available. The ketchup bottle on our table was also empty. Couple negatives. The food took what seemed like a very long time to arrive was very good when it did arrive. Overall a nice visit. If not the issue with ketchup which shows a lack of details and lemonade it would have been 4 stars. read more
