July 1st late night at 1:30am (technically July 2nd shift). It is goOooood. The board in the drive through was a little difficult to see and I wish it was angled a bit. If you are a passenger in the car, it makes it tricky to see. Just some feedback for marketing and operations. The gentleman that took our order and payment and brought it out to our car was professional, kind and we really appreciated his hospitality. The parking lot felt safe and everything was lit up. We were able to walk to the bin to throw away our take out. Chicken tenders were incredibly crispy and not too greasy. The pepper sauce and ranch were great - the size of the dipping containers were so great and also made the dining experience a better one. It elevates the experience. The onion rings were beer battered like - very crispy. The fries were good. Holy moly, the apple pie was absolutely delicious and HOT. It sweetened the deal and I will absolutely be back for this apple pie - I can only imagine how great it is with a fresh cup of coffee. Thank you to the staff. We look forward to returning and trying some of the items on the breakfast menu.

Every time we visit my cousin in Social Circle, Georgia, one stop is practically guaranteed: Hot…read moreRod's Diner. We've eaten here enough times that it feels less like a restaurant visit and more like part of the tradition. Tonight I ordered the Blue Plate Special with hamburger steak smothered in grilled onions, collard greens, green beans, cornbread, and a big bowl of Brunswick stew. My unsweet tea stayed filled thanks to Rhonda, who was serving tables while also managing the restaurant. We learned that Hot Rod's started the evening with three servers scheduled. Business was slow, so one server was sent home. Naturally, that's when things picked up. Even so, Rhonda and the remaining server kept everything moving smoothly, and we never felt neglected during our visit. The Brunswick stew was excellent and gave us an unexpected opportunity for comparison. Earlier in the day we had Brunswick stew at Fresh Air Bar-B-Que. Hot Rod's version was chunkier, with larger pieces of meat, more noticeable vegetables, and a slight kick of spice. The Fresh Air version was smoother and more finely blended. Both were excellent, but they were definitely different styles. The hamburger steak was flavorful, the green beans and collard greens tasted like proper Southern vegetables, and when the Texas Pete hit the table there was only one thing to say: "My man, Texas Pete goes on the collards." Then came the surprise ending. We learned that peach cobbler was half price today. Unfortunately, they were out. Or so we thought. A fresh cobbler was still in the oven. For the next several minutes, the suspense reached maximum peach. Finally, the cobbler emerged from the kitchen and was served à la mode. The French gave it a classy name. The South perfected the application. Warm peaches, a buttery cobbler topping, and a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream that immediately melted with a purpose made for the perfect ending to the meal. It was absolutely worth the wait. Hot Rod's continues to be one of our favorite stops in Social Circle, and after another great meal, I have no doubt we'll be back again the next time we're in town. From the moment we arrived, it was obvious this place has built a loyal following. The setup is simple: place your order, grab a seat, and enjoy. What made me laugh was that many of the "tables" are surrounded by lawn chairs. It's not what I expected, but somehow it fits the laid-back personality of the place perfectly. There are a few traditional tables available, but the lawn-chair seating adds to the charm. I ordered the "My Pleasure" biscuit, which comes with fried chicken, egg, and cheese. The chicken was flavorful, and the sandwich was very tasty overall. The chicken was a little dry when combined with the biscuit, but not enough to keep me from enjoying it. It was still a satisfying breakfast and easy to see why it's a popular menu item. If you're looking for a quick, casual, and uniquely Athens breakfast experience, Cafe Racer is worth a stop. Good food, reasonable prices, and enough personality to make the meal memorable.

It was good, mostly for the tangy avocado sauce upon it. Second, the tater taco, it was just too much potato and not much else. Ratio was off. Third, and I saved best for last: Pickleback. OMG. YALL. This crazy taco was insanely good. It was "mustard sausage" with a "breakfast sauce" and some dill pickles. When I say it was good... wuh. I'm a foodie, and I was blown away. So tangy, juicy and FULL of flavor. Perfect blend of fatty sausage, mustard, sweet sauce and tangy pickles. I can't say enough about it. They really hit it outta the park. The coffee was good. We will be back, if only for that savage lil taco. Yes, service was polite and efficient. Despite a double line of cars that would make Chik-fil-A jealous. We went to the window and they had old timey style beach chairs. Wife and daughter didn't want to eat there, so back to the Air-B-n-B.

But when I notice a business has a few non-pleasant reviews (and I had a great experience), I really make sure to share. This location is less than a mile from the Interstate and fairly easy getting in and out of the parking lot. It is one of the "big versions", which means it can seat at least 100 people (Do I know this for certain? No. But I do honestly believe it.). I opted for the drive-through and it was on point. Pulled into the line, order was taken, payment made, food and drinks handed to me in less than 5 minutes. The order was correct and the food was delicious. Because the furry family members were with me, I pulled into a parking space to let them out for a minute. When I went inside to use the restroom a few minutes later, I noticed on the tables were numbers. That's when I saw a sign instructing you on how to order your food, via their app, and have it brought out to your table. That may sound lazy to some, but I realized how advantageous that is to people who are elderly or disabled. Or what about a parent out solo with kids? Somebody had a great idea that day. So if you're nearby and hankering that chicken sandwich and waffle fries, I recommend you try it.

We tried a little of everything.... burgers, breakfast biscuits, onion rings, fries, other things. Everything hot, everything well cooked, everything generously portioned. The burgers were EXCELLENT. The fries were hot and salted perfectly, as if this place actually CARED about what they were serving. Just absolutely an excellent food experience for the price. If they had a Whataburger in my area I would never ever have to eat any other burger -- that includes YOU, Five Guys, and you know how I feel about you! My only little complaint is the cheap styro cups they use for drinks. When I opened my lid, there were flecks of styro floating in my drink that had been abraded off the cup when they put the lid on. That needs to be addressed. Next time (if I get back to GA) I will say "no lid."
