Why would Checkered Flag Auto Center on Rt 189 in East Granby, CT charge $100 to remove and dispose of 4 tires? The guy at the counter had to ask the guy in back how much to charge because he claimed that removing tires from rims "wasn't a typical thing they did". Don't waste your time with the embarrassing price gougers at Checkered Flag Auto. I went to Route 10 Tire in Granby and was charged a far more reasonable $40. read more

Had a slow leak in a back tire and brought it in for repair but unfortunately the nail was not the only problem! The two back tires were practically bald and I knew it was time to replace them all. It was already late afternoon and they had to order the tires and would do it first thing in the morning. I received a text by 10:00am that everything was completed! Over charged as quoted and labor. Charged 1.4hrs labor yet it only took 40 minutes. Tire pressures were 37psi on 3 tires and 34psi on one. They should all be 32 as listed on the car drivers door panel. Also they STOLE my custom Acura tire valve caps. read more

My parents went to R&N tire for years. I remember sitting in a gas line there in the 70s and learned there to always check lug nuts manually after putting them on with an air gun. I was in town for a short time and needed to replace tires on my Dad's old tractor. No one else could or would help. On an off chance, I tried them knowing they did car tires and hoped they might help. Sure enough, they found some. Thank you! In a world where customer service seems to have gone the way of the dodo bird, this place hasn't changed. A younger generation now, but same personal service. Even though it was extremely busy and they had a full schedule they juggled some things and were able to take care of the issue for me within an hour. Friendly and courteous service as well. My car needed a new O2 sensor so I naturally called around for quotes. Checkered Flag's price beat out everyone else's (including a large dealership with whom I had a $50 off coupon to contend with) by so much I had to call back to be sure they included labor/parts in there and there was no misunderstanding. Not only that, but I was told it would take only a half hour. Awesome. I had the pleasure of speaking with the owner and one of the other workers there, both were friendly and highlighted, again, why I love giving small local businesses my business. As a woman, I'm used to either being talked down to at auto repair shops or being taken for a ride. None of that happened here. I was told that they felt something a little off while moving my car in the garage and were going to put it in the lift to look at it. Initially nothing was found but while I was paying, they went over it again, feeling that they were missing something and they did find a rather serious problem with my control arms. They took me back to look at it and, clearly, they needed to be replaced and it was not a case of trying to milk the situation. While coming up with a quote for me, I was told that their alert of the parts I needed was coming up too expensive and was advised to buy the parts myself and bring them in to be installed. Sure enough, I found them much cheaper and I'm so thankful they were conscious of my wallet. In these economic times, I sure don't have a huge surplus around! Them taking the time to really look to find the problem and following their instincts even when the first look didn't turn up anything means a lot to me. I've got a child riding in my car with me. After paying for the parts and installation for the second repair, I'll still be paying less than the next lowest quote for the O2 sensor. So 5+ stars from me. I'll certainly be going back. I may have found them because if their proximity to my home but when I move in a couple months, I'll be driving well out of my way to continue going there. Finding a trustworthy mechanic is like finding a rare gem. Maybe the most impressive thing I heard there was a comment about their reviews the owner said to me after I told him it was the reviews I had read that brought me to his shop in the first place. He told me how he reads them and in one review he had read that they wished he'd checked the tire pressure so now they do so with every vehicle that comes in. How often does that happen? Most owners/managers get defensive or angry and never learn or consider the criticism the receive. Ones that take the time to read it and make changes based on it are really respectable and trustworthy people. I try to remember to write reviews when I receive really good (and sometimes really poor) service. I'm happy to write one for a local business doing everything right. read more

DO NOT BUT A VEHICLE HERE!!! BEWARE!!! We purchased a $14,000 truck here 2 months ago and it won't pass inspection! Salesman Chris said it would pass any inspection, a solid truck, blah, blah, blah... Well, the frame is rotten and cracked. We called to no avail and got no return call from the dealer. We were told the tech inspected the vehicle and an oil change was done. A few days after getting the vehicle home (almost 2 weeks later) the dipstick and tube on the engine block didn't even register the oil level because it was the wrong size. To short. So after the two months of no return calls from Chris we decided to take it to a frame shop for repairs. It rekindled my anger toward how care free someone could be, selling this vehicle and not even returning a phone call. So I went on Google Reviews and left poor feedback. We got a call that night. Chris left a message promising to fix the problem. You had 2 months already Chris so we wrote you off as a bad memory. Further more Chris was supposed to fix a broken glove box and lock for the spare tire. That's why it took two weeks to finally get the truck home. But guess what? None of these things were fixed either! Out of complete distrust we took the vehicle home. It wasn't until state inspection that we were notified about the frame. So here we are... Don't buy here if you're smart. read more

Very dissapointed in Checkered Flag Auto Repair. I brought my vehicle in for a transmission leak and was quoted $1,700 to remove the transmission, have it resealed and installed back into the car. I was told by Sean that the job wouldn't take any longer than a couple of weeks. Much to my dismay, it took five weeks and cost over $2,000 with other repairs needed. A couple of weeks later my transmission started to leak so I brought it back. I was told it needed a few more o-rings replaced to be leak free. I challenged Sean and he said it wasn't included in the re-seal. Folks - when you spend over $2,000 to have a transmission resealed, it better not leak for another 10 years. So I crawled underneath the car to see what was leaking. I found the speedometer cable end was loose so I tightened that and the technician had routed the transmission cooler lines above the fuel line putting strain on a connection at the transmission - I also fixed that. Furthermore - the torque converter shield is now missing and it was there prior to the repair. I am frustrated and disapointed in the timeliness and quality of the work on my car so, I do NOT recommend bringing your vehicle to Checkered Flag Automotive. read more

Bought 10 year old SUV from Mike at Checkered Flag. Car ran great and looked in excellent shape with no rust. Was given Car Fax on vehicle. Test drove it and bought at a good price. They detailed it, changed oil and filter and inspected it for issues and repaired minor oil leak before pickup.. I would say the detailing done by them was much better than other detailers that I've been to. Have put 5K miles on it so far with no problems and is a nice car to drive. Will probably be getting another used car through them soon. read more
