Located inside a gas station, this is a good place to grab a quick lunch or snack. The biscuits…read moretasted great. Didn't need butter. Don't be fooled by the size. Definitely full of flavor. Should have bought a few more to eat the next day. Really enjoyed the blueberry one. Staff was helpful as I had a couple questions. They were able to answer them. Didn't try the chicken. It looked good but I wasn't too hungry.

The menu picture shows a container of red beans in the red bean gravy, with a scoop of rice in it. This is how it SHOULD be. What I got was dried out red beans and gravy, on top of a container filled with rice. That is wrong, wrong! For $4.00 I don't want a container of rice. I want a container of red beans in its sauce, with a scoop of rice on top. That is still more than you pay in the South for the genuine article. I know this is due to Northerners not knowing how to serve this dish. Next time, I will ask for it the way it should be served. And I am betting they do it right. Because the folks there were really nice and friendly. And the chicken is waaaay better than KFC or the local Popeyes. So, only issue was red beans and rice was waaaaay off. And if you have ever had red beans and rice down South, you will know the difference. I'll up the rating to a four star if the red beans and rice is good next time. Please just make it like it is in the picture ON YOUR MENU. If you're reading this, look at the menu pix I added. You can see what it's sposed to look like, yum! Then look at the pic of what I got, NOT yum... NOT dried out gravy, and NOT just a bowl of rice, with some gravy on it. But a bowl of red beans, swimming in the gravy it is cooked in, with a small scoop of rice on top. Thanks! Because the only reason I came here, and will hopefully come in the future, is for the red beans and rice. And the chicken is really really good!

The people here seemed so well meaning, but the execution was terrible across the board. Both the…read morewaitress and the guy who set us up with a table were absolutely pleasant. Beyond that it was a nightmare. The service was sooooo sloooooow. It took too long for the waitress to come take our food orders after we placed a drink order. People in service should know to pick up the pace when they see small children in a party. However, even if it had been just adults, there is no excuse to keep us waiting for ten minutes. And then the food took absolutely forever, at least half an hour. During the wait, I counted only four parties totaling 14 people in the entire place. It was so frustrating. When the food arrived, half of it was wrong. My daughter ordered a kid's cheeseburger; she received a burger with no cheese. I ordered a grilled chicken salad with caesar dressing on the side; I received a caesar salad with the dressing mixed in. I didn't send it back--no time to wait! The salad was merely lettuce, dressing, and "chicken." The meat was rubbery and stale-tasting. The pretzel bites were horrid; sort of ligh-textured and vaguely sweet, but saturated with oil, they tasted more like toasted chunks of brioche bread than real soft pretzels. The "beer cheese" was mercifully flavorless. My wife's fish sandwich was bland but okay. The french fries were delicious. See, I closed on a positive note.

I switched things up a bit though, wanting to be sure to give the place an opportunity to put its best food forward. The wife got the previously dry Guinness Burger and I asked the Manager on Duty for a recommendation.....what do you guys do best? His reply, as I'd heard from others, was the Reuben. The Guiness Burger was better. It was more along the lines of a juicy, home-grilled burger. The Guinness BBQ sauce should be allowed to spill from burger to the plate so you can dip the fries. The wife enjoyed the meal. The Reuben was very good, http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/B0aSdOQJxHwa-VxA3hzYgA?select=kjYdbYkherAVT1UCyu01Og. I make Reubens at home exactly the way I like them. Mine have more meat and sauerkraut on them. At $8.99, this improvement is suggested. Still, the marble rye was grilled perfectly, the cheese, Thousand Island dressing, kraut and corned beef were nicely mingled and the sandwich was plenty moist and hot when it arrived. I'd come back on a Wednesday for the Reuben as it appears to be the special at $5.99. That's a good deal. Plenty of people were also noshing on the AYCE crab legs. Not sure on the price, but at least 3 large tables thought they were reasonable. Weather permitted us to choose the outdoor deck, which is a very nice alternative. There is a bar and a half-dozen tables. Service appeared to be very attentive the night we were there. It's difficult to personally attest to the service, given a bit of extra attention. In summary, the Reuben and improved Guinness burger warrant pulling the place up at least a half-star, and the owner's sincere effort to win over his customers is worth a little too. This place does the bar/pub thing pretty good and I wouldn't cross it off my list.
