Chau's Alterations is a small stand alone shop run by a skilled husband and wife duo. Because my chest:waist ratio is an unusual 46:32 inches, I have had dress shirts and suit jackets ruined by supposed "master tailors". The alteration work at Chau's has been impeccable. The price is also reasonable considering the amount of work necessary deconstructing my clothing to take out the billowing waists. At about $25 per shirt, they charge half of what I paid when i lived in Toronto. I knocked off one star because they only accept payment by the old school methods of cash or check. read more

I was about 4 weeks post-partum when I decided that I needed to get out of the house sans baby. I handed my son to my husband, muttered something about needing a sanity break, and walked out of the house in a daze that was compounded by sleepless nights and endless piles of laundry. I went to my haven otherwise known as the mall in hopes that being around pretty clothes would make me forget that most of mine were sitting unwashed in a huge pile with spit up stains all over them. I stupidly tried on a pair of jeans in my pre-pregnancy size just to see what would happen even though I had just given birth to a hippo. The effort to wear my pre-pregnancy size was, of course, unsuccessful at 4 weeks post-partum because I'm human....not Giselle. Imagine a marshmallow coming out of a s'more. In a fit of exhaustion and hormonal blues, I cried that I was destined to a life of fat pants. I wallowed in self-pity for a while, and I then spent obscene amounts of money on designer jeans that fit my post-pregnancy derriere. Maybe designer jeans would make me feel better? And they did.....for a little bit.....until my old size fit again. Crap. Now I had expensive jeans that sat in the back of my closet unworn for two years. I needed to have those jeans taken in a good couple of inches so that I could proudly wear them again. I also had some other pants and jeans that were way too long so they also sat in the back of my closet. At my height, I'm usually considered very tall and need a 34 inch inseam which means I have to buy my pants with extra length. For some reason, many clothing manufacturers have been making their pants in a 36 inch inseam. Maybe for those super humans....like Giselle. This just means I need all my pants altered. It's a pain, but it's better than buying a regular size and ending up looking like I'm prepared for a flood. I wanted to make sure that my pants were altered correctly. I've had bad luck in the past with tailors so I was a bit nervous. The woman at Chau's who helped me was super nice. She very quickly pinned and marked each pair of pants. I was in and out of there in about 5 minutes. My jeans needed major work since they needed to be taken in from everywhere so I was a bit nervous. Chau's had all my alterations completed within two days. Everything was done perfectly. I do not have a single complaint about the work that was done. I can now happily wear all my pants. As others have mentioned, make sure to bring cash or a check. It's so archaic, especially because if you're like me you can't remember the last time you carried a checkbook nonetheless had cash. Words can't describe the service I got at Chau's alterations. My fiance and I were on a roadtrip to rhode island for a wedding when we had stopped in Alpharetta to see my fiance ' s parents. I had pulled out my bridesmaid's dress only to find my cat had chewed 8 holes into the side of it. In a panic I called every seamstress in Alpharetta. The sweetest man picked up and even though past hours offered to stay open another twenty minutes for me. We had a time crunch time to leave Alpharetta the next day. Not only did they have my dress perfectly fixed before 2p.m but he went to barely charge me. This is true southern hospitality, I would highly recommend this place. Terrible 1st experience. Requires CASH upfront. Way over priced! Paid $140 for garbage alterations & terrible customer service. I will NEVER EVER go to this place again and recommend that you look elsewhere. Took my wedding dress to get the bust & hips altered as my dress was too big. RUINED my dress & refused to fix it after it didn't fit right after the alteration. The owner told me she had no time to go back & fix it. Material gathered in the waist/stomach area. Blamed the irregular fit on my waist/hip ratio. Ended up NOT wearing the dress for my wedding because the alterations was a mess. read more

Our family has been going to Chau's for over 20 years and have been very pleased with the service and work done, but I feel the need to write a review based on the latest item that they altered for me. I had personally "chopped" off the big puffy sleeves from my 1980s wedding dress so that the sleeve material could be used to wrap my first daughter's wedding bouquet. But then I needed the dress to be displayed at my second daughter's wedding. Chau's altered the top of the dress and finished the armholes so that it looked like a current style and it is gorgeous! Unfortunately, I did not have the best experience at Chau's. I spent almost $700 on getting my suits tailored here, as well some work done on sport coats and slacks. When I picked up my suits, slacks, and sport coats, I specifically tried them on to make sure everything was ok. When I noticed one sleeve was longer than the other on 3 different suit jackets, I spoke with Mrs. Chau about this. She insisted that it looked fine and there was nothing wrong. It was very obvious one sleeve was longer than the other, so I was pretty shocked that she would not acknowledge this flaw/error, and wouldn't fix this problem. She said they would have to charge me to fix the sleeves. Instead of paying Chau's more money to fix their errors, I went to another alterations store to have additional work performed on the sleeves. When I tried on the coats for the new tailor, they also noticed the area across my back and shoulders was incorrectly altered. I ended up spending another $350 to get things fixed that Chau's either would not fix, or did wrong in the first place. Needless to say, I was very unhappy about this. They have been in business a long time, so I am sure this is not the standard for them. No human being is perfect and mistakes happen, I understand this. I guess what really bothered me was there unwillingness to first acknowledge, and secondly fix, the problems they created. The crazy thing is, I drove 30 minutes out of my way to go them because I thought I remembered them being a great alterations store when I lived in Alpharetta when I was younger. Based on my experience there, I will not be going back to there store. read more

I've been a customer of Chau's Alterations for over 15 years. At 5'11" and a size 4, it's rare that I can find clothes that fit off the rack. I've taken many slacks, suits, jackets, jeans, dresses, blouses and even leather coats to Chau's over the years and not once have I been disappointed in the results. My items are always ready when scheduled for pickup and the alterations are consistently high quality. I've worked with both Anne and Chau Nguyen - both are excellent tailors. When I find a great item in a retail or resale store, but the length or over all fit is off, I know I can take it to Anne and get the look I want. I don't take my clothes for alterations anywhere else and highly recommend Chau's. read more

Have done an okay job in the past... but recently have had a hem fall out on a pair of pants after 2 wearings and they now charge $20 to raise the hem on a pair of pants, which is unreasonable. New alterations shop opened just up the road towards Milton, will be trying them next. read more
