1:20 pm visit on December 20th Review # 70 of 2024 We stopped by because my wife was craving a carnitas burrito, while I had my heart set on an Al Pastor taco and a fish taco. We also grabbed a bottled Mexican Coke to go with our meal. The wait from ordering to receiving our food was pretty quick, taking about 5 to 7 minutes. I enjoyed the carnitas burrito, but my wife found it too soggy for her taste. On the other hand, my wife loved the Al Pastor taco, but I wasn't a fan as it tasted overly sweet and mushy; I think I'll skip the pineapple next time. The fish taco was okay, but it didn't quite meet my expectations for a true Tijuana taco experience. Overall, it's a nice little spot and a good transformation from the previous Mexican eatery. I'm on the fence about returning, but I might give it another shot in the future. read more

Came to Chatos Tacos because I saw an IG about their Papa Loca and I really wanted to try it, not to mention it was in SW Vegas and we don't have very many options for a good Taco shop, mostly you have to travel to the Northside. So, I do have to say I was pleasantly surprised, we ordered a Papa Loca of course, and the potato was really big, smashed just the way I like it, then you get your choice of meat, we chose Carne Asada, they put cheese, guacamole, green salsa, cilantro, onions and pickled onions, it was very filling and it was delicious. We also ordered their quesabirria taco, their Birria eggrolls, carne asada tacos, elote (corn on a stick), a carne asada bowl, and an order of plain fries, they also have fountain drink choices (Coke products) and an array of Mexican drinks, Coke, Jarritos, etc. The carne asada was tasty and not tough, their birria was well seasoned, the consóme delicious, the corn was good, the only downside is I wish they had esquites (corn in the cup) I don't like eating off the cob, but it was still really good. Their bowls include a meat, then rice, whole beans, cilantro and onions, we chose carne asada again and their rice was fluffy and really tasty and their whole beans were good. The eggrolls were good as well, in fact our kid loved them and he's kind of picky, they had a good salsa bar as well, all their food was seasoned well. All in all great place to try if you live on the southwest side of Vegas, you'll definitely enjoy it, the staff was friendly, the food was out quick and it was hot, they do bring some items at different times, but makes sense as they serve as they cook the food, it's all freshly prepared, the seating was ample and comfortable, their tables are made with Corona type barrels for chairs, and there's an area you can use for a social media type of photo. I know the next time we visit we'll try their other meats, they have buche, carnitas, al pastor, chicken, fish, so plenty to try, prices are comparable considering we're in the SW, for me not many downsides, I do wish Yelp offered 1/2 stars, because I would definitely say Chatos is 4 1/2 stars, not the 5 yet in my opinion just because the corn option didn't offer the esquites and the salsa bar could have had maybe 1 different option for their salsa, like a guacamole salsa option or other, but we will be back for their good food, especially the Papa Loca. I had the pleasure of visiting with Ashley Oré ,and we even ran into a BMX champion and reality show host, TJ Lavin The Mexican food here is amazing. We tried the street tacos (both al pastor and carne asada), the Gringo taco (loaded with meat, melted cheese, cilantro, onion, guacamole, crema, and cotija cheese on a handmade corn tortilla), and the birria egg rolls. The street corn "Elote" and the birria plate with beans and rice were also delicious. Our absolute favorites were the Papa loca (mashed potatoes dressed with al pastor, carne asada, guacamole, salsa, and sour cream) and the Pho con birria (a flavorful soup made with slow-simmered beef stew and Vietnamese rice noodles). We saw the viral papa loco on TikTok and had to come. Ambiance - super cute with all the Modelo seating. Service - friendly, fluent in English. Food - our potato was wet and cold in the middle. :( Once we got to a frozen chunk, I let the kitchen know and they reheated it for us. The texture was super off. I also wish the salsa bar had more choices. No radishes or cucumbers were there. Not in a rush to go back. The food is good, service is just ok, the dining area is nice. Because of some social media this place was super busy for a while but it's starting to slow down again. I'm giving it a 4 start because every single time I been here they tell you it's a 45min to an hour wait for the papa and it comes out in like 20 maybe less. I thought this place was great. Out of the six items that I had, four of them were fantastic and the other two were still pretty good. I tried every taco they have as well as the elote. My favorite items were the elote, the carnitas taco, the al pastor taco, and the gringo taco. I don't usually like elote but this one was divine though the rest of my family thought it was a bit too much. The carnitas didn't really have any crisp to them but they were extremely moist and flavorful. The al pastor had a little bit of spice to it and the pineapple chunks brought the sweetness and acidity. The gringo taco was another surprise hit for me. I thought the cheese frico on the outside of the tortilla brought that saltiness that I was craving and it wasn't overpowering. We have been here twice in one week. The staff is friendly and they are able to get the food out in a reasonable time. The tacos are always hot and fresh. A great new local taco place has opened on N Stephanie St. / Wigwam Pkwy * It is beautifully decorated in authentic Mexican style. Very clean and inviting place. We have tried their : the Clawd's trio that comes with three tacos with melted cheese, the El Pastor tacos and the Elotes ( a MUST TRY) . The food tasted fresh and perfect blend of flavors. They have different types of bottled drinks and definitely worth checking them out. The staff were welcoming, especially the restaurant managers / owners who were very friendly and helpful. I made a simple order: steak burrito - add cheese and chopped fresh jalapeno. Got a very loosely wrapped, falling apart burrito, NO cheese, No sauces, NO flavor. I don't want to be disparaging. Especially to a new up and coming local business. But, I'm sorry, I'm just not sold on Chatos Tacos right now. I stopped in to check out the shop that replaced El General, a place I had been to a few times. I expected a very different atmosphere given how long El General was closed before Chatos opened. Much to my surprise, it looks very much the same inside. Even the seats, Corona beer barrels, were the same. Not much difference there. Atmosphere aside, I was here for the food. I ordered a two taco combo with al pastor and carne asada. I likely would have ordered this on my own but I asked the hostess what she recommends. She said her favorite is the al pastor. Mine too which is why I had already ordered that. She said that the carne asada is also popular. So that was my second taco. I also ordered a drink before she pointed out that the combo already comes with a drink. I guess I need to read the menu better. When I paid and got my drink cup, I thought there was some mistake. I was handed a little plastic cup that looks like what I usually get when I order water at other restaurants. I guess this is the 12 oz. cup they use at Chatos. I was expecting a taller paper cup I suppose. No matter, I got my drink such as it was. After filling my drink, I grabbed two little cups of salsa to try. I went for the green and one of the reds. Then sat and waited for my lunch. I didn't have to wait long. I was the only one in there at about 10:45 AM. My food was up in quick order. Brought directly to my table. I very nearly laughed when I saw the portion size. Two tiny tacos and a little cup for both the rice and beans. It didn't look like much food given the price. The first thing I tried was the salsas followed by a bite of meat from each of the tacos. I had to make sure I matched the salasa appropriately. I put the green on the asada to pair with the guac (nice touch, BTW) and lime. The red went on the al pastor to play off of the red marinated pork. The salsas brought more flavor to the meats than they had on their own. That's the point of the salsa, right? The flavor of the tacos was fine. A littlemore pineapple with the al pastor would have been nice. But overall, they were both good. Small though. Very small. Two bites per taco. To think that individually these would be $3.50. I mean, I understand there are opperating costs and high inflation lately. But when you can get a bigger taco for half the price elsewhere, it was disappointing. I will say the freshness and quality was above those kinds of cheaper places. But I am left with the disconnect between what my stomach wants and what my wallet is happy to pay. When it comes to rice and beans; rice is standard. Nothing special about it but I liked it just fine. The beans, on the otherhand, not so much. I found them too pureed and even a bit soupy. Almost pea soup consistency and not trememdously flavorful. I added what was left of my green salsa to the beans. That helped. $12.99 for two tacos, rice, beans and a drink. All of which were on the small side. Add in tax and a tip and you are now looking at over $16. And I was still hungry when I left. This is where that disconnect is for me. I wanted to go get a second lunch afterwards. I refrained but the thought was there. Maybe a burrito would be better next time. $13.99 for a burrito if I remember correctly. I would hope it is a hefty burrito. Time will tell. I am happy to give Chatos another try but tacos will not be on my plate during that future visit. Best of luck to you, Chatos Tacos. Saw this place pop up on my tik tok and had to come give it a try. The restaurant has plenty of seating and is very clean.
