Excellent fresh food and a very friendly atmosphere. A real local treasure with great service and good value for the price.

This is a HomeTown favorite. Definitely home cooking. We enjoy it just to bring cash as they don't accept credit at my last visit

It pains me to leave a mere two-star review but I couldn't find much to like here. The quaint…read moreambience, friendly service (we were one of the first guests to arrive on a Friday morning mid-May) and fresh brewed decaf were the highlights. The food, which is most important, was a big disappointment. I am a cinnamon roll connoisseur and was so excited to try the rolls that past Yelpers raved about. They were out of caramel today so we ordered the grilled roll with pecans and homemade buttercream frosting. It looked dry and tasted even drier. Barely warm, flourey and tasteless. The frosting was the best part. The menu of choices looks wonderful and diverse for a small cafe. I was delighted to see shrimp and grits. The skillet was very small, the food was hot (a plus) but it was heavy on the grits, which lacked flavor and space on shrimp (only 4), sausage and sauce. I ate the toppings with half the grits and left the rest. My husband ordered the hoagie sandwich with hash browns. His comment was "a lot of bread and minimal filling" with "luke warm" hash browns that were more spongy than crispy. It's hard to go wrong with breakfast, but somehow Lazy Toaster has missed the mark. The concept is fun, the menu is great, yet the recipes and preparation could use some major improvements. The tab ($41 for two) was not bad, but was high for the quality. We liked the decor yet felt the cleanliness was lacking (sticky floors and no paper towels in the bathroom). A breakfast place in East Tawas is a plus; I hope this cafe commits to some improvements and stays around.

The service is good and the food quality is good. Probably the only complaint is that the hashbrowns aren't brown enough, but that's my particular taste. On busy days, I recommend getting there before 9 o'clock, it gets pretty busy and it's small so the weight can be a little bit long. I wish they had a few more healthy options. I like avocado toast but there's is lacking. It's just a piece of toast with some avocado spread on top, no seasoning, very bland. Also kind of small.

Hammer and Nail is for the most…read morepart a breakfast/lunch business model where it is open for dinner only on Friday nites til 8pm. I came here for breakfast from Oscoda based on the good YELP reviews and their early open times of 7am as by nature I am an early riser and very few restaurants in the area open at that time. For my first meal here I had their Little Manny breakfast which was their two egg, choice of meat, potatoes and toast entree. The eggs were well cooked, bacon was thick cut and tasty which is big deal for me and potatoes are of a cubed home cooked variety with sautéed pepper/onion medley mixed in with the potatoes. Nice! Price at $10.99 was very fare and normally there would be an upcharge to have your potatoes served Obrien style which they did not do here. Lastly the Coffee which too often is overlooked by some is quite good and full bodied just the way I like it. The restaurant is very clean and bright with super friendly service and great follow up through out the meal. They were quick with the coffee refill's where I never saw the bottom of my cup during the meal. This is a sure sign of great service and Cleary a strength of this business. Overall, a great spot to check out where I will definately be returning in the near future to sample their smash burgers, where I am a fan of that style of burger. They look so darn good in the YELP pictures not to come back and give them a try!

Not just the entrees, sauces and sides, parts of appetizers. Our poor overburdened waitress must have said 'I'm sorry' 20 times throughout our meal. The two servers were bustling to cover the entire restaurant. After we got our initial drink order and ordered, one friend was told they were out of beef tips for the salad he'd ordered. His alternate selection came after the rest of our meals. We waited quite a while for drink refills too... three requests worth of time. (See the above for the understaffed) When the meals arrived (in batches but piping hot), one sandwich order was incorrect and the chips on the side so salty they were inedible. We were close to the kitchen and could hear a female bellow for the wait staff. I guess when the orders were ready? The OK - the smoked chicken wings and turkey wing had good flavor, but were a bit dry without the sauce. The Dirty Rueben was 3/5. The beer was good and a good price. We had a small chat with our waitress after to express our feeling that she did her best with what she had. Overall a very disappointing experience. I shouldn't leave feeling bad for my friends that I picked the spot for dinner and worse for the overworked waitstaff.

That said, a younger employee named William stepped up and did his best to help manage what was clearly a chaotic and disorganized situation -- he deserves recognition for that. Food: We kept it simple with burgers and fries. The burger itself was decent, but the pretzel bun was a real miss -- brioche would be a much better choice and would elevate the whole experience. The fries were fine, nothing special. The ranch dressing, however, was genuinely unpleasant -- easily the low point of the meal. Atmosphere: Right around 6:00 PM, a live band started up. For a restaurant setting, that felt far too early -- most venues wait until around 7:30 PM before live music kicks in. The result was that conversations became nearly impossible, customers were shouting to be heard, and servers were struggling to take orders accurately. It added to an already disorganized environment. Worth noting: Fox News was running on the TVs, which may matter to some guests. The Positives: The place was clean, and the golf course is genuinely beautiful and well maintained. However, I did notice some significant trimming of the pine trees -- hopefully they don't continue cutting them up that high, as the natural wooded feel is a big part of the appeal up there. Bottom line: Hard to recommend for dinner. The golf course is the real draw here.
