Chowder was more like a watery soup. Not at all creamy. Had lots of potatoes, making it more like potato soup. Clams in it were ok but the flavor was bland. DIdn't finish. Much preferred the rich taste of the bowl we had in Nantucket, for about the same price. Lobster meat in the roll was tough and disappointing especially after paying so much for it. I eat a lot of lobster rolls and had one the day before in Nantucket that was superb. This was too chewy and not very warm. Didn't finish. Fried clams were not at all what I was expecting, but maybe this is an east/west coast thing again. Very chewy and the breading was very light and not very crisp like you get on the west coast. Didn't finish. French fries were ok but nothing special. Bland. After reading all my Ellen Hilderbrand books we were really looking forward to experiencing Mac's. The hype for this place and strong reviews make me think it's a coastal preference, but for our group of 3 west coast visitors, it was not at all what we expected or were hoping for, especially given the prices.
