I don't know why I thought that Chatham Brewing was operated out of someone's garage. Maybe it used to be, once upon a time. I'm old. Time moves quickly. Perhaps I missed a press release. Or perhaps this building was a garage in a former life. Whatever the case, Chatham Brewing is not located in a garage. It has its own free standing building on a darling little strip of downtown Chatham. I rolled in late on a Saturday night in search of a Capital Craft Beverage Trail stamp. Really, I should have picked up a four pack to go. But the brewery was crowded, and I didn't see the small refrigerator which in addition to the brewery's own beer had some cans of Yesfolk Tonics. So I grabbed a seat at the bar, and nursed a pint while catching up on some email. Yep. Saturday night. Email. This is the exciting life I lead. It was cold, and late, so I felt like a dessert beer. And I wanted something without too much alcohol, because I had to drive home. The maple amber was the perfect choice. People watching was fun. There was one customer, I couldn't tell what went down, but he clearly got under the bartender's skin. It was probably the most civilized display of kicking out a customer I've seen. Bravo to the team. Heading back into the restrooms, I saw the window into Chatham Brewing's production facility. Wow! That was bigger than I expected. Definitely wouldn't fit in a garage. I hear the menu has some good stuff on it too--I hear they have a Trowbridge Farm beef burger--but I arrived too late for food. And besides, I wasn't particularly hungry. It would be a fantastic stop before a movie at the cute old theater across the street. And that way, it would be easier to make a day trip, or at least convince a kid to come along for one of Daddy's beer adventures. read more

An unbelievably amateurish dining operation. We were a party of four, and arrived at 5:30 pm, hoping to grab dinner on a Sunday evening before the 7 o'clock show at a local theatre. The waitress - to her credit - was honest, and told us that getting a burger or salad would take 'at least an hour' because the 'kitchen was backed up.' She encourage us to order drinks and appetizers...which we did. After 45 minutes with nothing arriving...we left. VERY LAME. read more

I have enjoyed Chatham's beers for some time--their Farmers' Daughter Rye IPA is an absolute standout of that style--and had been looking forward to visiting the taproom for some time. Dinner was unfortunately quite disappointing. I started with an Oktoberfest beer (tasty) and I ordered the wunder burger with blue cheese and onions. Requested medium and it came out charred and well overcooked which disappointed me to begin with. But then I frankly thought this might be better, as the burger tasted a bit off. But I was starving and still had a good hour plus drive ahead of me, so got extra ketchup and plowed through. Let's just say I barely made it to my destination upstate, and really didn't feel well that night and even into the next morning. The figurative and literal bad taste in my mouth left me little doubt as to the cause. I'm really trying to be patient and understanding in this period, and grateful places are still open. The service felt slow and abrupt (took a while to get that extra ketchup), but it's such a tough time for workers, I get that. So I'll try to look on the bright side and say they have good beer and you should get some here or to go. But unfortunately I'd personally recommend only going for the beer, and dining elsewhere. read more

Five of us, who frequent many Hudson Valley restaurants, left perplexed at the prices. A tiny, and I mean tiny (3"bowl) of ceaser salad cost a whopping $7!! I wish the server would have told us that, as we would have sent it back. There was no price of that listed on the menu. I got a grilled basic chicken sandwich that was not tasty in the least, and subbed the same tiny small bowl instead of fries, and they charged me an extra $3 for that, which was listed on the menu. But does that measly little bit of lettuce, croutons and dressing cost that much more than some fries? So many other places around here let you just sub the fries for a healthy salad choice with zero add on price. With all the little add ons here, we were disappointed. The positive is that the beer is good and the mac and cheese was very tasty, but this place will be a never again for us. read more

I'm not a big fan of pub grub, I'm not a huge beer drinker, and I'm currently not drinking at all, which is to say that I'm probably uniquely unqualified to review a brewery. That being said: I liked this place, and feel like they're doing what they do really well. I ordered a sandwich off of the specials menu which I thought was great: really flavorful and well seasoned, and the chicken breast was surprisingly not dry. I was a little apprehensive when I saw the hand cut fries -- sure, fresh and house-made is great in theory, but a lot of places manage to serve hand-cut fries that are somehow simultaneously limp and soggy and fried into burnt husks -- but these were hot, crispy and flavorful. My husband's calamari was relatively underwhelming: in my opinion, serving the calamari on top of marinara with more sweet balsamic glaze poured on top of that overwhelmed the squid and made everything go soggy too fast. Food aside, the space is nice and bright, and the service friendly and efficient despite the fact that there weren't many people working. I also really appreciated that they make their own sodas as an interesting beer alternative for non-drinkers (I enjoyed my root beer, which tasted like a less sweet version of the commercial version). my review is a bit delayed, I hesitate to leave poor reviews. my husband and I are longtime locals. but we don't drink thus understandably never came here before. but my grown daughter was visiting in April 2024, so we came here to try it for dinner for fun. this place always seems busy at dinner time, a good sign. since we only drank water and iced tea I won't comment on drinks, only on our food. Prices were as expected for a trendy brewpub. The brussel sprout appetizer was ok, very rich but different. But the entrees were not a good experience at all. I had a salmon dish, my husband had fish and chips, my daughter had a chicken dish. All our dinners were dripping with grease. Not a bit of crispness in any of the fried things, even the French fries were soggy and oily. The battered fish was two very large pieces, greasy and mushy, immediately falling apart. My salmon was tasteless except for tasting like French fries. When we got home I looked up some recent reviews and was alarmed by the lady who got food poisoning from her moldy salmon dinner... only a couple weeks before mine. But for the luck of timing, could have been me. Just sooo much grease and oil. Maybe I'm out of touch concerning what makes great "brewpub food", or maybe one really needs to drink beer to cut the grease. We are three very healthy people, but we all had to stay close to the bathroom at home for the next eight hours. It was like some TikTok detox where you drink a pint of olive oil. Or, a human JiffyLube. A great place if one is suffering from constipation maybe...you'll be cured in an hour. Sorry, but just reporting our experience. I do highly recommend the food at the People's Pub across the street however. All my friends love their food and service. Great care is taken to prepare food there. Great seared tuna! read more

My best friend, his wife and I stopped here driving back to nyc from Vermont. We picked the spot as his wife cannot have gluten and we felt like having a real meal. We also met up with his brother who lives a few towns over. We had two dogs with us and had a lovely table outside. The service, first and foremost, was simply lovely. She checked and made sure everything was ok for people with celiac and informed us they even have a gluten free fryer! We ordered an array of drinks from the brewery and they were all very nice. I ordered the Thai chili wings, literally 10 for $10. Amazing deal. Also ordered the beer battered chicken sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries. They perfectly hit the spot. If I ever happened to be passing through again I'd be brave enough to go for the fish and chips as they did such a good job with the batter. read more

While I've had a few of Chatham Brewing's beers in cans and on tap at various places around the Capital Region, I finally got to visit the brewery recently. It is definitely a bustling spot in downtown Chatham! They have easy, convenient parking right next to the brewery and on the street out front. The outdoor section is really great, with wooden trellises providing plenty of shade and picnic style tables to sit at. Pets are also allowed in that outdoor area, which we always love. As I said, the place was extremely busy since it was early Friday evening so the bartender - who also served as a server to tables - wasn't overly friendly, but she was still very attentive, quick and efficient so we didn't have any complaints. We ordered the fried pickles, which were good, and I ordered a brisket sandwich. The brisket was really, really good but I didn't love the sandwich overall so I'll probably just get the plain brisket next time. As far as the beer goes, we had the Blood Orange Gose, Bombogenesis Double IPA, and the Double Overtime Double IPA. None of the beers really stood out, but they were all perfectly good to drink. I definitely want to try their Czech'rd Past Czech Pilsner next time we visit though. read more

Great drinks, great food, and great service. Besides their beer selection, they have a decent size food menu that includes meat from Grazin. They also have hard liquor using local ingredients. I had the Grazin burger and Chilli. Both were so good that I wish I had seconds. I tried the whisky they make in house, it was really good. I wanted to try the vodka that they make out of their own potatoes, but had to drive back to Hudson, so passed on that. Drinking and driving is not my thing. We were here on very busy night with a group of 7, but the service was still very friendly and attentive. read more

Located in a cute old railroad town, Chatham was a great local option for craft beer in upstate NY. There was plenty of parking on their side lot and the outside seating would have been great if it wasn't so hot out! The inside seating was plentiful with high tops, bar seats and regular tables. Family and pet friendly with a really nice staff and lots of TV's on the walls. The tap menu featured quite a few styles but mostly IPA's which was fine with me. I tried a few of the IPA's and found them to be fresh and above average. They had a variety of 4pk 16oz cans to go and growler options so some 4pks came back home to PA with me! Food wise they had a nice variety of options from salads to sandwiches, burgers and appetizers. They even had a small kids menu. I went with the Tex Mex Burger at $12 Sharp cheddar, bacon, spicy barbecue and a side of sweet potato fries. It was cooked to my order and a good portion size. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meals and I even stopped by a second time for my takeout brews. Great location and a nice little town. We ventured to this brewery after looking for what was around on yelp during our weekend road trip. After a slight wait we were able to sit outside with our pup, enjoy delicious brews and a fabulous burger, accompanied by super friendly and personable service. It was a delight to experience Chatham Brewing and we would certainly return if we were in the area. Once again, Chatham Brewery came through. We haven't visited in a while, due to the stupid pandemic, but yesterday we had a great visit. Covid protocol is all over, the waitstaff is outstanding, and the meal we had was worth driving far to enjoy. Zak is an amazing Chef. Review time kids! Out and about on a bike ride with the bride brought us here! Well,the GPS did give us some guidance! Having sampled some of their hard work in the craft beer department, we had to make the pilgrimage. Let's just say, disappoint is not on the menu! Atmosphere is casual and very relaxed, inside is clean and tidy. There is also a very nice outside seating area that we did not partake in due to the need for AC! We chose to sit at the bar for a quick bite. I went with their homemade chicken tenders, the lovely bride ordered a salad with chicken. Both were excellent and served in a very timely fashion! Absolutely DISGUSTING! Had to call the Health Dept. Spent about 7hrs throwing up and also other more disgusting things...from around 9pm to 4/5am the next morning. WHY? Lucky me - I had the misfortune of eating their mold laden Salmon Tacos this week - April 22nd 2024 . Funnily enough, this was my second bad experience at this restaurant in roughly 2 years ( having not eaten here since the last time ). And no that's not spinach! I'm not kidding! I was SO SICK! Be warned... I did speak w/ the owner and while he was clearly mortified and did refund the meal , he was hesitant to have me send him pics, However when I did, he too thought is was absolutely disgusting and thought it might be time to end his chef's career. I AGREE! However, in the same breath, he wondered if the taco's were left out in the hot sun on the window sill?! And all i have to say to that is: "like whaaa?" Is this a restaurant w/ a civic duty to its patrons or a let's pretend cooking play-time? SHAMEFUL! It was a hike to get here, but a very fun, family brewery/restaurant that I'd definitely like to make it back to. Nice selection of beers, and one of the best Czech pilsners I've had in ages, the bartenders were quite friendly, and the food menu was extensive and quite tasty. The place also has a charming, comfy vibe to it, which welcomes an extended stay whether you are with friends or family. Most of their beers were available to go in cans or growlers, so we took some home with us to enjoy later. I'll be making another trek out to Chatham again at some point for sure! read more

Entrees were impossible burger, Mac and cheese, and brisket combination. I grew up in Chatham, NY and made great friends, many of whom I am still lucky enough to see when I visit from chilly Portland, ME. Recently I found myself grabbing a delicious sandwich and a tasty beer (or two) at the Chatham Brewery. The bartender was friendly and helpful and the patrons were true New Yorkers. Although, not from New York City, instead they were my fellow woodsy New Yorkers with dirty boots, callused hands, polite but direct, and loyal to those in their lives. With so many breweries with bars opening up it's easy for it all to become perfunctory, "here's your beer", "here's some food", stroke your unironic neckbeard and comment on how "hop forward" your IPA is. But Chatham Brewing takes it a step further with superior service, excellent waitstaff, and very good food to go with your amazing craft brews. There's a noisier part of the spot for the bar, and then a smaller quieter space if you want to enjoy a bit of a meal with your flights. The staff are fast and friendly. All around great experience. If you head out this way, definitely stop in to try what they've got on tap and treat yourself to some surprisingly good and creative food options, as well! My husband and I became fans of Chatham porter a few years ago but never managed to figure out where the actually brewery was. This past Saturday while planning to stop at the pub to grab a beer I spied the sign and had to stop. While I didn't partake of a variety of brews I was thrilled to finally find it. We tried the maple amber, the golden ale and OC blonde. All of them were outstanding and I'll be back next weekend to fill up a growler or two. These are real beer guys - they don't hard sell you anything, instead they want to actually talk about making beer, either theirs or your own. The only down side is their limited hours but I'll manage to work them into my schedule! read more

Beer was good but everything else was below average. When we first walked in there was no sign to seat yourself, we walked over to the bar and it was over 5 minutes before someone paid us attention and got us seated. The food wasn't great. The wings were maybe the best part. Burger had little flavor and no sauce at all (no ketchup, mayo, etc) and the bun was dry. The menu mentioned a half house made sour pickle that I was excited for but none of the burgers came with pickles. I asked the server about it and they said they were "on top of the burger" (which was just three thin slices of practically cucumber). We also had to catch a server walking by every time we needed something, no one proactively checked on us. Overall pretty disappointing experience. Next time I'd just grab a 4-pack to go. read more

Chatham brewing is awesome. Stop by for a tasting or pints! Stopped by very short notice about a year ago for beer for my wedding. They helped us out with a bunch of growlers with numerous varieties. The 8 barrel went super quick. Sat down and had a beer while we waited for them all to be gathered. Awesome place to hang out with friends and enjoy some local brew. I've been to many places and drank many beers and I have to say that the Chatham line up competes with them all!!! Chatham Brewing was stop #2 for my sister's bachelorette beverage trail tour this past weekend. While they are no longer members of the Hudson Berkshire Beverage Trail, we still wanted to stop in so I coordinated with them directly. Tom and Jake were very accommodating and pleasant to deal with. When we arrived, they had even reserved the big front table for our group of 10 to hang out at! The facility was great and Tom even took us all on a mini tour, which was a lot of fun! The bartender on and all of the other people we ran into while there were wonderful and very nice to our group. The beers were delicious and everyone enjoyed sampling a whole bunch of different ones. The only downside was that they had such a limited selection of available pints (not their fault, silly NY State rules!). But that was fine because at only $1 per sample, we could try lots of different ones! Thanks so much for a great experience! These guys just recently opened a new tap room and expanded brewery on main street in Chatham, ny. They're right across the street from the Berkshire bank and the theatre. They're open for growler fills and tastings pretty much all weekend and about 4-7 or 8 on Thursdays and Fridays. The beers really are some of the best in the Hudson valley.
