This small theater packs a punch!! Parking is easy and the volunteer staff is on point: covid screening, ticket counter, snack bar, ushers- they are run like a military operation. Everything is clean, well-lit, clearly marked and accessible. Bathroom well maintained. I've seen two shows here (2021 and 2022) and they are amazing! Such an intimate theater and they maximize their space so a lot of the acting is right in the aisles. Fun for the whole family. read more

The stage is in the center of the room and the audience surrounds it- every seat is a good one. It's a small theatre but it never felt cramped. The set staff does a wonderful job at utilizing the space. I learned from my friend that the set designers rebuild the sets and redecorate the walls after every production. The production of Rent we saw was fantastic. I've never seen Rent, movie or musical. (I know I'm late) The actors are talented and it's evident that the director, staff and volunteers care deeply at the space and every show. The Mac-Haydn Theatre is open during the summer months. I would highly encourage everyone to take the drive. It's a peaceful and scenic one. It's less than 40 minutes from Albany. I'm looking forward to heading back later this summer for Hairspray and The Producers. Notes: The concession stand only takes cash. Food and drinks are not allowed inside, just bottled water. However, if you put it away quietly, no one will say anything. There is a surcharge for online orders. I believe it is $3.00 per ticket. OOOOOOoklahoma! My first visit to the Mac-Haydn Theatre was delightful. Theatre is sectioned off in four seating sections. The play was quite entertaining with actors appearing from almost any location - right, left, and behind us. During intermission you can purchase a beverage from their concession stand. I wasn't sure if I would need a sweater since it is out in the country and the weather has begun to change. That being said, the inside of the theatre was comfortable. Will look into tickets for next season since the show quality was exceptional. read more

I used to bring my children here for the terrific daytime shows for kids. Haven't been here in at least 15 years for an adult performance, and it's just as good as ever. Every seat had great visibility and the talent was professional and perfect. We saw "the Full Monty" for the first time ever (except for the original movie) and was impressed by the excellent casting, staging, dancing and script. I suppose that means a wonderful director?? An additional nice surprise that night (bedsides the cleverly executed & unexpected REAL Full Monty ending!) was the variety of wonderful looking home made desserts sold in the cafe. I don't know if that's a usual or occasional treat, but definitely something to look for when you go. 6/10/18 forgot to check in and now I'm "too far away," so I wanted to commend the theater on the production of "Funny Girl." The talent was exceptional, as was the staging and music. I honestly don't think it could have been any better. My favorite ever here still remains "Xanadu," which was fantastic AND performed entirely on roller skates! read more

This is a lovely little theater in the round. I saw a great, rousing production of the musical "Hairspray" here last weekend. It's only open in the summers, but they put on a packed season of high-quality musical and non-musical theater productions. read more

Great shows. Always very professional. Sets are amazing and love the way they transform the theater for each new show. For example, they did "singing in the rain" with real rain a few feet from the first row. It was great. The singing and acting is always well done and so entertaining. read more

The performers are outstanding and taken from NYC auditions and local auditions as well. Nice mix. Just saw Music Man which was great. Next is Fiddler. Every opening night they have craft beer, cheese and local chocolate tasting. Its a nice summer venue for all ages. read more

As my family and I were raveling through New York, we saw an ad for "Sunset Boulevard." As it's one of my favorite shows, we decided to see it. BIG mistake. It's ambitious for small theaters to do big shows- but what a disappointment. The sets were abysmal- it was as if Norma lived in Roseanne Conner's home. Many actresses capture Norma's delusions- this actress was deluded. It was nice to see a senior actress in the role, like Glenn Close. But where Glenn's acting made up for her singing deficiencies, this Norma was deficient in both. Max seemed to have wandered over from his night off as the headwaiter at the Harmonia Gardens. At least Betty was lovely. Truly a travesty of a production. read more

The talented actors at Mac-Haydn never fail to put on a great show. It's only open during the summer, and my family and I try to catch at least one musical each year. In recent memory, I've seen Hello, Dolly!, Carousel, Hairspray, Annie, and Anything Goes. The stage is small and circular, so every seat in the house is a good one. Parking outside can be a little tricky, especially if it has just rained. Don't wear sandals, because the lot gets pretty muddy. Other than that, no complaints! read more
