What a miracle this place is, really. Fascinating, meaningful programming and events. I find myself thinking that there might not be another place quite like this anywhere on the planet; it truly deserves the word "unique". We love to browse the art gallery before or after a show and, embarrassingly, have yet to check out the bookstore. Sure, some of the seating isn't plush but there's couch type seating and if you're a movie lover who focuses on more than your hiney, there's plenty to love. Don't just go, join and support this treasure of an institution. My only gripe, which may not be real, is that someone told me there was a swing dance event here and I didn't hear about it.

They have an extensive number and wide range of books, including art books, most in very good or better condition. The organization is largely by subject (and even then, assignment to a particular subject area seems somewhat whimsical), but within categories, they are not well sorted - so it does take some time to browse. Pricing is a very modest flat fee, given the condition and rarity of some titles (currently $4 per hardcover, $3 per paperback). Thus it's possible to find many titles, including first editions, well under typical pricing found elsewhere. The staff people are really nice. When bagging up my purchase, one of the larger tomes ripped the paper bag slightly, so the staff person got some gaffer's tape to repair the bad and prevent it from continuing to rip apart. Thank you, TSL!

(OK, I guess theater, since they're also set up for live events, the stage looks super fun). While the original place has clearly been chopped up a bit, as these things have happened over the years, to make multiple screens, the smaller main theater retains much of its original charm. The sound was among the best I've ever heard -- forget the mall theaters with their cookie cutter speaker systems, this place feels like the audio has actually been tuned to the space. Not too loud but utterly clear and encompassing. Throw in interesting programs and very, very reasonable concession prices on top of super friendly staff, even though the Orpheum is quite a haul for us, we are definitely returning, especially for the special festival programming. Now I want to buy some merch so I can spread the word.

You get your ticket from an old fashioned ticket booth in the front of the theater before you walk in through the main doors. Candy and popcorn are served with a smile from the old style concession stand. There are two theaters downstairs, The theatre upstairs used to be the former balcony when the Orpheum, was a single screen Theatre. In the early 90's it was converted into a triplex The seats are comfortable and the upstairs room is a nice size. The theaters downstairs are a little smaller but still comfortable. The building was opened in 1908 and used to be a roller rink, for about 12 years before it became a theater. They play a cute Little trailer "let's all go to the lobby" back from the 1950s before the previews start. Then right before the movie starts up on the screen it says " orpheum theater presents feature presentation" You can't go wrong going to the theater to enjoy a motion picture. The price is right the staff is friendly and helpful the sound and projection crisp and clear no annoying commercials or too many previews before the movie Definitely a much more enjoyable personable experience vs going to a multiplex

We kindly asked if they could be turned off once the movie was well underway because we, again, were the only ones in the theater, and they were distracting. We were told that it would take 20 minutes to turn them off, so the answer was a no, which was sort of understandable. However, the tipping point for me personally was that there was so much refuse, including old candy, popcorn, and other concessions, all over the carpet in every direction- almost asking for a rodent infestation. The tape used to hold parts of the stairs to the upper seating area together was half off. The seats were so filthy that brown stains of oil and soil were visible on all of them throughout Theater 3. I was honestly afraid of rodents throughout the whole movie since there was so much food covering the floor. Please use a vacuum at least once a day; it's a health hazard for the community otherwise. I say this as a concerned parent and caring community member. The place is absolutely filthy.

Bathrooms are limited to one person or family group at a time. Masks required when ordering. Hand sanitizer available, and staff was wearing masks CORRECTLY! With such a dearth of fun activities these days, I don't know why they're not sold out every night! Get tickets with the FB page links. Definitely want to go back. I'm gonna do a little side rant about Yelp reviews here because there's something I don't get. I see a lot of great reviews and then a 4 star review. If everything was awesome just give it a 5. Those 4s add up and I feel like people that use Yelp are always looking for the great reviews. You get a 5 and 4 from two people that love something. Now you have a 4.5 that should have been a 5. Definitely order a cookie.

The counter staff is usually very friendly and helpful. The bathrooms have always been pretty clean as well whenever I've come. Selection of movies has been dull lately with lots of reruns of old movies and some crummy new releases that I have no interest in. That's not their fault though. They tend to clean up spills and stuff right away. I loved their limited edition seasonal flavors on the Coke machines, and the best perk is that you can get unlimited refills of soda or icee, or you can get one on the way in and fill up with another on the way out! Never seen a theater offer that! I drive over 20 miles from Newburgh just to go to this theater cuz AMC in Middletown has the most disgusting bathrooms and horrible service at the front desk and concessions, and Regal in PK is trash.

So happy this theater is and feels like an independent entity and part of the community. My only criticism... and its a fairly big one, is that they oversalt their popcorn to the point that it can be inedible as well as the fact that they do not carry real butter, but if they at least fix the salt part, then it would be a perfect experience.

But I was always there during the weekday around lunchtime or early on a Saturday when there weren't any screenings at the Theatre. The building was actually built as a Grange hall in 1905. Where they showed Movies in the upstairs section. In 1927 wad known as the Millerton theatre There's a very nice lounge with a café and art gallery upstairs It was converted into four screens. Screen one has 154 seats. Screen two has 142 seats screen three has 136 seats and the screening room has 38 seats. When you walk in the front doors, the concession stand is up in front of you. To the left and right our poster cases with current movies on the left side and classic films on the right side The young lady behind the concession stand. Was very friendly and helpful. I ordered a large popcorn and green iced tea. I was coming for a screening of the movie Network . On September 24. That exact date is mentioned in the movie. I went up the very staircase steps to the second floor, where the movie was playing in theater 3. There is an elevator so you don't have to navigate those steep steps going up or down The lounge area was very nice looking, retro. I looked into the little screening room across from the bar down a little hallway. It had a pretty good size screen and comfortable seat seats. I picked a seat in the middle section of the theater. Which has a nice ambience. The screen is a very good size as well. The projection of crisp and clear. Very good sound system as well. I'm a big supporter of these independent historic downtown theaters. The look and feel of this theater was different from other theaters. like the Orpheum theater in Saugerties or Upstate Films/Rhinebeck/Saugerties . I would say it felt more luxurious. The café area had a couch that looks like it came from the 1950s One can buy a membership to support the Theatre. As it's a nonprofit Theatre now. This Theatre is a GEM in the downtown of Millerton. They have special screenings like network. As well as when the director of an independent film will come on a Saturday afternoon to do a question and answer session. Stop at one of the restaurants in town before or after a movie. The Moviehouse will definitely be a destination that I will be going back to several times a year.
