We saw a daytime movie on a freezing cold Sunday, so I don't know what it's like on a normal night but: Great comfy reclining seats (heated, too!), great price, good sound. And, I've never seen this in a movie theater, they had unsalted popcorn as an option with a salt shaker to add your own. Genius! read more

Is this a small town movie theater or am I about to see a Broadway Show? This local movie joint has the nerve to make you reserve your seat ahead even if the place is half empty. If you haven't reserved ahead, you wind up with a lousy seat in the front rows, practically on top of the screen. Is this a new (elitist) trend or is the owner just trying to justify his costs for renovating the fancy new seats he installed? Whatever the reason, this is just so insulting and unacceptable. It's a small upstate theater in a middle and low income area. I was forced to exchange my upcoming ticket so I could see the screen properly. (No refunds are allowed!) After that, he can use his fancy attitude in order to con others into attending what he perceives as so damn special. After having not having visited here in years since I was a child, this place still holds that sense of old nostalgia of a classic movie theater. Pricing here is extremely reasonable in comparison visiting a place like regal cinemas. For my wife and I to see a movie with the upgraded seats to recliners that were heated, yes heated seats! We paid under $20! That's a great deal compared to what we would have paid at regal for conventional seating there. Snack options were the usual suspects - fountain sodas and popcorn. Costs were super reasonable. We chose the large soda and medium popcorn since it was just two of us. Seating was well spread out. The reclining seats were great since they reclined back just like if you were at home with the addition of cup holders, and a heating option that can be set for how warm you'd like the seat to be. Theater we were in was very small and now seats need to be selected online or when you arrive off a screen. By the time we arrived most were taken already making it hard for our group to be near one another. There were no recliners in our theater. Sound was good and the seats were pretty comfortable. Downside is that there is no side aisle. I was seated up against a wall and would have had to climb over three people to get to the bathroom. read more

Went there the evening of 12/12/21 with a few family members. It was my first time at a small town cinema. What a great experience! The price was amazingly right. The staff was amazingly efficient and courteous there was plenty of parking and the reclining seats were extraordinarily comfortable. The view from our seats was very good even though we were near the back of the theater. The floors and seats were clean. No sticky stuff for your shoes to stick to. The audience was civilized and polite. This is my new go to cinema from now on. Oh, the popcorn was fresh and buttery. read more

$6 matinee price. Refreshments of large popcorn, 4 medium drinks and 3 candies was $33(would have been at least $50 for the refreshments alone in Albany.) Quick friendly service at the ticket counter and refreshment counter. Standard screen size and seats, a bit outdated looking, but whatever. If you're into a huge screen and stadium seating, you may be disappointed. There are drink holders though. Picture and sound quality are good. Overall a real value if you're willing to have a basic rather than luxury movie experience. Oh by the way, the hours are wrong on this listing. What can I say about this local business that you don't already know from the other reviews? The movie tickets are cheaper than 95% of anyplace else in a 25 mile radius. The popcorn has real butter. They have discount prices every Tuesday. I've seen many films here and I have no problem going back (my check-ins make it quite obvious). the first film I saw here was Parenthood in 1989...that's how long I've had a connection with this place. I saw The Force Awakens here three times. The reason I won't see it here for the forth time is because I want to see it in IMAX. The only "bummer" here is that you usually get just one trailer before a film and I can't take stars away for that. Most people like few to no trailers but I'm the freak that likes 6-8 trailers before a film. That's just how I roll but if you're in the area, stop by and catch a flick. You know how when you sit down to watch a movie with your snacks, happy and full of anticipation, ready to lose yourself in the art of visual storytelling, and the theater goes dark and the previews begin... And then 35 minutes later you're still watching more damn previews and all your popcorn is gone because you've started to do that zoned-out-eating thing where you turn into a zombie, and every time that green "The following preview is..." screen comes up, yet again, your spirit breaks just a little bit more because what the hell, its been soooo looooong...? You'll NEVER have to worry about that at Lyseum! Because they're good people, not greedy monsters and they only show an appropriate number of previews that might actually interest you based on your current movie choice! You know how when you just start digging into your movie theater popcorn, and you notice that the popcorn on top is like, soggy with this weird sludgy stuff that tastes reminiscent of butter but definitely not butter, and then halfway through the never ending previews, when you're getting down a ways into your popcorn bucket, you suddenly feel like you're eating Styrofoam because all the "butter" was at the top, and without the chemical butter flavored product, it is revealed to you exactly how awful and tasteless the stuff you're shoveling into your mouth actually is...? You'll NEVER have to worry about that at Lyseum! Because they know that if you're paying for popcorn you want popcorn not garbage, and they give you real freshly popped popcorn with real freshly melted butter on it, and they toss it around so the real freshly melted butter is evenly dispersed through out the real freshly popped popcorn so that it tastes as good at the bottom as it did at the top. You know how you want to go to the movies with your other of significance, and after you've bought the two movie tickets, (and dammit (s)he wanted to see the 3D version,) so now you've just spent like $35, and then the snacks are another like $35, and you just spent like $70 on a movie that you don't even know you'll enjoy yet, and then they also give you crappy popcorn and force you to watch over half an hour of advertisements even though you've already spent at least 70 F-ING DOLLARS to sit there...? You'll NEVER have to worry about that at Lyseum! Because they are a local business owners, not corporate shills, and the tickets are VERY reasonably priced, and the excellent popcorn is VERY reasonably priced, and you get a free refill, and it'll be worth your money even if the movie turns out to be aggressively mediocre. You know how these new movie theaters have big lovely screens, and great sound systems, and super lush seats, and nice bathrooms? Yeah... Lyseum doesn't have those things. read more

Previews are very short, so you don't end up eating all your popcorn before the movie starts. Movie tickets are $5 before 4 PM ($7.50 after 4 PM) except on Tuesdays which is $5 all day. The theater floors are clean. I've never had my shoes stick to the floor here, unlike many other theaters. There's a theater closer to me, but whenever I go to see a movie with friends or family, we all agree that The Lyceum Cinemas is the place to go. read more

Although this theatre has increased their ticket price in last 3 years, they still have some benefits. Tickets are still a whole lot cheaper($5-during discounted matinees starting before 4pm for adults, unknown price for kids, anything else please call their number) than those of AMC's and Regal Cinemas' prices. Although this location shows 3D movies(with an extra charge) they also tend to loose these movies as well, quicker than the pricier locations. After about a short 2-week stint of 3-D they'll pull 3-D(running only 2-D for about another 2-weeks; and while other theaters run both styles, they, by then have stopped running these movies altogether, claiming no one was attending). Their overall ticketing for any movie is a whole lot cheaper than those pricier theaters. It used to be a big hit when they first opened, being the biggest one in the area, but when Regal Cinemas opened a 12 plex complex about 10 miles from this location, things changed, and it seems slummier now than it's original opening date. Their seats, although new two years ago, are starting to show SOME wear. Their employees don't seem to clean up too much after the movie, the floors don't look spotless in most places. They are all stained, no matter into which theater you walk. Variety of movies are related to whatever is popular, however, this theater has never shown X-rated movies. G and PG are most popular followed by PG-13 and R. Although this listing says to call one number, this number is the number where you get their recording. GREAT ticket prices. I mean really, where else can you watch a movie for under $10 anymore? You can't beat these prices. And the lines go pretty quick too from my experience-I've never had to wait too long to get my tickets. And I LOVE that you can get real butter on your popcorn-you can't find that anywhere else either! The screens do have scratches and other tears on them sometimes, but I actually like that. It gives the theater a sort of charm. The floors are also sticky, so watch your shoes! They might end up stuck to the floor. read more

I've been going to this local cinema for over 20 years. It's very basic and has kept its ticket prices low which has made going to the movies with my family affordable. Consequently I go to the movies a lot! However, my evenings at the Lyceum in Red Hook may be over. They have taken out the seats in the back half of the theater and inserted what I can only describe as bed/chairs for people who want to lie down while they watch the movie. They have not improved the size or quality of the screen or quality of the sound. Just ripped out prime seating for many in the middle of the theater and plunked the bed/chairs for just a few. So odd, so unwelcoming. They have also instituted a system for choosing your seat when you reserve your ticket or arrive which slows down the whole process incredibly. So now they have a system usually found at huge mall cinemas stuffed into a creaky local cinema with no real amenities except that it was affordable and convenient. The Lyceum has made a terrible choice. Anyone want to buy my packet of tickets? I won't be needing them anymore. read more
