Visited Roosevelt Theatre yesterday for the very 1st time to see Alto Knights. The staff were super polite and upon entering we choose our seats opting for their recliners. Good recliners can encourage sleep if the movie is boring, we managed to stay awake with our medium popcorn coke and Raisinettes. Small screening room was perfectly fine. When we were leaving the theater a guy came running from behind the concession counter to open the door for us. He said he was an assistant manager thanked us for coming and asked if we were locals. He advised us about Tuesday & Thursday lower ticket prices so overall good experience at this theater. read more

This is a cute old school theatre that shows all the new flicks and family friendly options. Tickets are oy 7$ Tuesday Thursday and 9 plus other wise. Extra for recliner seats. We went to watch movie wish. Theatre 1 was 3 don't have recliners. So that was a bummer. The staff is attentive and friendly. We went to see The Holdovers there yesterday. It's an old theater, with several movies. The theater we were in was tiny. Seats are comfortable and the theater is clean. Prices are $7 for the matinee for all movies except the ones in the updated section with recliners - those are $1.50 more. Still, a reasonable price for a movie in 2023. read more

The Roosevelt Theater is one of those theaters to enjoy, a decent comfortable size with plenty of room with the old school feel. This is my second time coming here, and each room has it's own size (haven't been to all of them), fitting enough people. I'm impressed to see how clean it is inside. There are signs leading to the theater number just past the ticket and snack area, showing which direction to go, and the number right top of the door listing its showing and time. They have a decent selection of food, snacks, and drinks to choose, popcorn which has load of flavor and hot dogs to name a few and soda. No issues with service, each playing their part to move things along. They do a great job to keep this place running, and doing so for many many years. Let the action live on! read more

I still like this place for old time's sake, but my last visit had some issues. The popcorn was stale, which is a disappointment considering how much it costs. The soda machines weren't working except lemonade, which came out 90% water. The air conditioning seemed to be out of service. I hope they can keep this place going. read more

The good news.: $7.00 Matinees. The movie was terrific. One star for each of those things. The bad (spoiler alert, there are not enough stars to take away): The heat was broken in the theater. It was cold, even with a blanket we brought in. The screen and the aisles were just plain filthy, stains on the screen, yesterday's popcorn and debris on the floor. The picture was dark and out of focus. The emergency exit door leaked a significant amount of daylight along the entire long edge of the door frame. And then this, a woman sitting directly behind us in the nearly empty theater coughed and sneezed and hacked through three quarters of the film. She snored during the last quarter and apparently became nauseous in the rest room afterward. Yeah, we should have changed seats. Actually, we should have just waited til the movie was streaming. Fairness caveat: As for the frigid conditions inside the theater, the ticket seller did tell us that the heat was broken. That's why I went back to the car and got a blanket. It wasn't cold in the theater, it was 10 degrees colder than outside on one of the only cool days this fall. He didn't mention the leaky door, the filth on the floor or screen or the dark unfocused projection. read more

Small town old school theater. Lobby and snack bar need major updates even though the popcorn and drinks are fresh. Didn't like the new pick your seat at the box office computer system when we went to see Jungle Cruise with Dwayne the Rick Johnson. Should have put money into fixing the restrooms instead of fancy heated recliner seats in the movie theaters. At least the floors weren't sticky! read more

I've been a long time customer of Roosevelt Cinemas for several years but after an experience I had this weekend I will never be going back. My friend and I pre-paid for tickets and when we entered the theater, we were very rudely informed by an employee that I wasn't allowed to bring a blanket inside. We've been seeing movies here several times a year since moving to the area in 2021 and have never once had an issue with bringing a blanket inside. We asked to be refunded for our tickets but were refused. I've defended the Roosevelt to people who say it "looks crusty" (it does) but isn't terrible on the inside, but I will no longer be doing that. Their concessions are overpriced, popcorn is stale, and soda is flat. The only thing they had going for them were their cheap prices and reclining seats, but as their prices rise and more theaters integrate reclining seats, there really isn't a reason to go there at all, especially if their employees are going to be rude. read more

Walked into the theatre hoping for a 7pm movie. Unfortunately we were not told about the change in times and watched the last 30 min of the movie until realizing they never informed us of the movie details. When asking the front desk employees we were met with a lot of snark and blaming us for the mistake. Theatre is run down and managed horribly. Very unfortunate as I like to support local businesses, but unfortunately the overall quality of Roosevelt theatre is going down extremely. This place might not have all the glitz and glamour of the larger chain/franchise movie theaters but it also doesn't have the young, crazy crowds that some other places seem to attract. It's cozy, quiet, comfortable, clean and you really can't beat the prices. Here you can watch two movies for the price of one at the other places. The new reclining seats are a plus. I also like the idea of being able to pick your exact seat online. I'd like to see them expand their concession menu a bit but your movie theater basics can be readily found. My go to spot when there is something I want to watch on the big screen. read more

This place is great if you're looking for a chill, laid back day at the movies. If you're indifferent about your movie experience, then this is your place. I recently went to take my nephew for an afternoon, 3D movie and it was only $7 per person! No place in the area has those prices. However, you are not getting the same experience you get at the larger theaters like Regal. The theaters are small and outdated, the surround sound system is pretty weak, and the menu is very limited (but, much cheaper). In fact, even the 3D seemed less, um, pronounced, I guess? It doesn't pop the way it does at the larger theaters. But, for the price, it works! Overall, I would come here if I just want to go to the movies. But, if there is a movie you are anticipating seeing and are looking for the "movie" experience, I would choose the larger, more costly theaters. read more

Really a 1-Star theatre but they have 5 star prices. 8 bucks here vs 13.65 a couple miles south. I still drive the extra 20 minutes and pay close to double because the experience is exponentially better. The auditoriums in this place are not well sound proofed so you constantly hear the other movies and even worse, the people walking from the lobby to their theatre. The seats are pretty cramped. Not as bad as Upstate Film but close to half as much space as Regal. No stadium seating... no Davey. read more

I was very disappointed after my last trip here this past Sunday, when their website stated that they were playing a movie that was not being shown any longer. I visited their website the night before and it indicated that a movie was being played for the next three days. I went the following day and that was not the case. A true waste of time driving there for nothing. I do love the bargain rates, but the place could use an uplift, or at least a good cleaning. read more

The Roosevelt! The Roosevelt! When I want to watch a film and I want to pay great prices, I go to Roosevelt in Hyde Park. I've been seeing films there since 1989 and the building has come a long way. Gone are the days of uncomfortable seats and erratic heat/air conditioning. Gone are the REALLY small theaters with you fighting over an armrest. Gone is that "is the ceiling gonna fall on me" feeling that made me nervous. The film choices have historically been very good and it was THE place besides the mall to hang out when I was in high school. It's also the place of MANY first dates and why not? It's local, low key and safe. I have great memories here and I'm still making new ones. I'm glad that the Roosevelt has improved over the past several years while most of Hyde Park has had me scratching my head with the town going through some weird regression phase. I haven't been here in awhile, but it was always my go-to place for a movie when I was traveling in the Hudson Valley area on a regular basis. Reasonably priced, clean, comfortable, liked the popcorn (I DEEPLY miss movie theatre popcorn!), and the ambiance. My only quibble would be the quality of the movies shown (movies have really deteriorated in the last 20-30 years), but that's a problem for every theatre in every state in the country, unfortunately. Would be a nice idea if they did like the Lafayette Theatre in Suffern, which runs old movies during the weekend. Would be great to see one of the old classics on the big screen again! read more

I have always enjoyed going to The Roosevelt Theatre. I love the prices and the fact that they use REAL butter is a plus. My husband and I went there on Christmas day and got to try out the brand new reclining seats that turned out to be heated as well. The only drawbacks to this theatre are the bathrooms, which are a little narrow and outdated, and fighting to stay awake in the reclining seats. Totally worth any money spent!! read more

Theater speakers didnt work. They were all around the walls but only 1 at the screen worked. Could bearly hear it. The AC fans are louder then the movie! I walked over an told the staff, no response from anyone, they went about there business. The lady at the register looked miserable! No attentiveness at all. The seats smelled like they haven't been cleaned In Years! I GOT NAUSEA by the time I left due to the smell of the seats and carpets. Mens bathroom stall door hanging off! A total s@#t hole. I know it's a bit cheaper then the Poughkeepsie Galleria, but dont waste your money or time for a bad experiance! Pay a bit more and enjoy yourself. Have been going to this theater ever since I was a kid going for E.T. and Jurassic Park. The theater was remodeled around 10 or so years back and definitely for the better. They have digital films now but I don't think they do digital sound. The ticket price however justifies it. Currently $5 matinees and Tuesday nights and $7.50 regular. Cannot beat this as all the big name theaters like Regal are charging $7.50+ for matinee and near $12 for evening shows. The only other cinema that competes is Silver Cinemas in Poughkeepsie (formerly South Hills mall area) but for first run movies I come here. If you are a sound junkie and need that extra kick to your movie, go pay for Regal type style. Popcorn and soda are same as any theater. Runs around $12-$13 for a large combo One free refill on large popcorn and large soda. read more

Probably my favorite place to watch a movie. A family of four can actually enjoy an affordable movie and not have to sell their first born. And while chain theaters love to exploit 3D prices I can say Roosevelt's 3D is priced perfectly. The staff is extremely friendly and when you go there enough they pretty much know what you're getting before you order. I love all of them. The snacks are well priced and the popcorn is delicious when drizzled in that real butter. Best popcorn out there. And now I'm craving some. I refuse to see a movie anywhere else unless they didn't get a film I really wanted to see which is rare. Love it here! read more

The Smell of Urine Throughout the Theater A really disappointing experience at Hyde Park theaters during an attempt to see a film on Saturday, February 11th with tremendously surprising poor service by staff that didn't seem to be trained well. A groups of friends and I arrived for a 930pm showing and after purchasing tickets entered our theater to find a proverbial punch in the face with the horrible smell of urine. I'm talking New York Subway type smell. This theater was drenched in it. I couldn't believe there was anyone still seated. It was unbearable. People were walking out, being unable to stand it. We stepped out immediately and I asked "Donna" for a refund because the theater smelled like urine. She informed me, "OUR theater does not smell like urine. We have a customer in the theater who smells like urine."... Ummm what? Apparently the staff was aware of this and I wasn't the first person to tell them. I had exchanged a pass for the ticket, having purchased a book of 10, as I had attempted to support the local business. The Hyde Park theater isn't anything fancy, but it is usually at least semi clean. Donna was not prepared to give me a refund as she pointed to a piece of paper serving as a sign that said no cash refunds. I hadn't used cash, instead used a pass. Though she informed me she counted that as the same... Okay... I asked if she was the owner. No. I asked to see the owner. Not happening. I asked who was the manager and if the manager was there and she began YELLING full volume across the registers/lobby, "Nicole this customer wants a refund... Okay, now. Not necessary. A very young girl/woman came over who used the exact words, "acting manager on duty." It seemed "odd" that Donna, was claiming this specific chain of command. However not knowing anything of who is in charge, I cannot argue it. I reminded the women Nicole I was asking for a refund because their theater smelled like urine. Again, Donna interjected, "No OUR theater doesn't smell like urine. We have a customer who smells like urine." Nicole asked me "did you read the sign?" , The aforementioned piece of computer paper serving as the apparent policy. Really bizarre. This place had otherwise been decently clean. I'm not sure if the staff didn't care enough or weren't trained properly on how to handle the situation. Donna scribbled her name on the back of my receipt, saying that was good for a free ticket. Getting my pass back wasn't going to happen apparently. Most amazing of all, neither Donna nor Nicole seemed to care, or even be surprised that their theater reeked of human urine. As a business owner myself that seemed so incredibly foreign to me, to keep nearly 100 customers forced to either sit in extreme discomfort or have to haggle with staff and disrespected and then given a pass to come back and maybe deal with more urine soaked theater seats. I've otherwise felt fine coming to this theater and enjoyed supporting a small local business. But after the poor display here and the apparent lack of desire to correct a major problem that was affecting everyone in the theater, it seems highly unlikely I will return or at least not return without wearing a rain coat and bringing air fresheners. I will reach out to the owners/actual managers and hopefully they will correct the problem with their staff so future patrons can come here without being forced to smell urine throughout their films or who may be afraid to speak out like I did. Donna clearly seemed like she was trying to make a scene, trying to embarrass me for speaking out and not taking her excuse at face value. That was unnecessary. No one should be forced to either remain quiet and sit through that, or have to worry about being called out by staff. read more

Its a bit dumpy. The whole place smells like urinal cakes, and my popcorn wasn't very fresh. The building was probably erected in the 80's and not much has changed since then- there's even water stained drop ceilings in the theaters. The people are super friendly and tickets aren't that expensive. read more

Saw Jumanji this week with my family. The surround sound speakers were not working, and the audio for the movie was very quiet overall. Upon bringing this to the attention of the manager, my father was made to feel as though he was an idiot. The manager told him that the speakers were working fine, although it was clear they were not. Cheap movie tickets don't have to mean cheap customer service. I was very disappointed by the way we were treated by management. read more

This is the most reasonably priced movie theater I have ever been to. It's a wonderful movie theater, small and friendly and comfortable. I went there to see Wonder Woman, and I paid less than half of what I might have paid for a ticket at a larger theater, yet still had just as good of a movie-watching experience. read more

Small old school theater that shows first run movies very cheap -- if we take our kids to a movie at the big mall theaters, I'm looking at $60-80. Here I can pay a fraction. I don't understand why people almost pay double to go to galleria for stadium seating if they live near the Roosevelt theater. You can get a ticket book and the movie is only $5.00 or without a book 7.50. It's not as fancy but it has comfortable seats and nice people and the movie is the movie where ever you are. I have grown up in Hyde Park my entire life, and have always enjoyed going to the Roosevelt cinema. Until tonight that is. I purchased my ticket, a large popcorn, and asked for a cup of water. They have recently started charging $.25 for cups, which is cheap but no big deal. I came out to refill my large popcorn and water and was informed in the nastiest way possible by the older woman behind the counter, "I can't refill your water. I have to tend to the other customers first." There were three people in the lobby, two still buying their ticket. I said alright I'll wait. While I was waiting the owner told me that if I wanted a water refill I could use the water fountain around the corner. I said, "I paid for a ticket and a large popcorn, why can't I get a refill of water? It's not costing you anything and there is no one here..." The lady was rudder than before, if possible, and told me "we don't do refills on water." I responded "I've been coming here for years and you always have." Her response was "You can leave then." Never before have I been presented with so much hostility from a worker at the Roosevelt. The icing on top was the owner of the establishment, a cranky old man, coming up to me and asking if I needed anything. When I told him water, he told me snidely to go use the fountain around the corner because they don't give out water. I will no longer be giving the Roosevelt my business, it is sad because I've been going to movies there my whole life. The uncalled for hostility I received simply for asking for what is free in every other establishment was appalling. I definitely recommend people take their business elsewhere and not have their movie experience ruined by such mean-hearted people. read more

The last time I was here it was high school. I was surprised when I recently stopped by to see a movie. It had much better seats than I remember and cheap tickets. Though it doesn't have the glamour of stadium seating and doesn't offer that much other than popcorn and candy at the concessions stand, it's still much cheaper than going down to the mall to see a movie. It's good when you want to see a movie for cheap...... but it's not too clean. If you shine a flashlight on the wall in the theatre it's disgusting. Also, they only have real butter as an option for popcorn. Many people are dairy free nowadays that this is a step back. Regal on the other hand has great tasting butter that ISN'T real and is made from coconut oil. I think it would be great for this cinema to follow the big names by getting dairy free butter :))) read more
