An absolutely great experience. The ticket prices were a lot cheaper than movie theaters. They featured a double feature of Goonies and Family Vacation. You aren't going to get recent films they feature primarily classic movies. It is a massive lot and they allow you to pick anywhere to park. The first film starts at 8:40 which I thought was late but due to the longer summer days it gets dark pretty late. The food wasn't crazy expensive but in retrospect I wish I bought my own fast food in. I ordered 2 hot dogs, a cheese nacho and mozzarella sticks for roughly 18 dollars. I only stayed for one film and it was easy to drive out the lot to leave in between the double feature but you definitely have to be smart about where you park. The only miscues is the address is a bit tricky to find. Easy to miss the turn. Also the concession stand light reflects on the screen. read more

It was a great experience. Literally nothing to complain about. We drove out of the way to come here because they played Disposable Me 4 as the first movie in a double feature. The other place I checked out had it played second, at nearly 11pm! They had concessions and full restrooms. Also had helpful staff to turn off car lights and ensure a good experience. read more

Summer night essential! The Overlook is a huge drive-in with loads of places to park your car, park yourselves (most people opt to prop up outside of their vehicles on blankets and lawn chairs) and pups. And kids (the early movie is usually family-friendly). And social distancing is really easy this way (everyone wore masks without complaint in communal places like the snack stand and bathroom). We met up with a bunch of friends to watch Labyrinth on Saturday night. At 10 bucks per person (two movies if you want!), this is significantly less expensive than seeing a movie in the theater. I believe you're only going to see older movies at this theater, but who doesn't love watching an old favorite on the big screen? I'm not sure how crowded this place gets, but we were here on a Saturday and the place was barely half empty... by the time the second movie came on, it was about a quarter full. Love it! Thankfully, they make announcements to remind people to turn their damn lights off, because that can get super annoying. I read this from reviews of other drive-ins. I didn't notice any other lousy behavior, other than some fool who had come in late and HAD to get a premium spot right in front of us. I mean, come on. The snack stand is pretty basic, burgers, pizza, fried chicken. Not a thing I'd eat, and priced what you'd expect at a movie. I have high hopes for Four Brothers which has craft cocktails and food made to order, with vegan options (because I guess I'm bougie like that). Other old timey bonus: everyone we encountered was so nice, from the entry folks to the snack stand. I felt like I entered a time machine back to 1955! read more

I live in Rockland County NY and have been going to The Overlook Drive in for MANY years! It is tucked away off a main road so use a GPS unit when you go. The recording used to give directions to get to the DI from Rt 44 Or Rt 55. Don't know why they discontinued this option. A real LIVE person WILL answer the phone after 7:30pm if you have question or need directions to the theatre! The Overlook DI has a large capacity and can accommodate 750 cars making it one of the BIGGEST remaining single screen Drive In's in New York State! The grass and grounds are CLEAN and maintained very nicely! Trees encircle the ENTIRE DI from when you go past the ticket booth and to the road the leads to the exit! Monday night IS bargain night where all tickets are $5.00. The cost all other nights is a very reasonable $8.00 for TWO motion pictures! The screen is BIG six stories tall and freshly painted for the operating season! One of the BEST things about the Overlook is that there are NO houses,business or lights of ANY kind that can interfere with the movie going experience. Come show time it is TOTALLY DARK except for snack bar lights! This is the BEST way to watch a double feature. Other Drive In's I have gone to have many businesses and homes near them. This creates distractions form the ambient light coming into the DI. The snack bar has popcorn,candy,pizza,soft drinks nachos etc. However what sets this snack bar apart from others is the fact that they offer Black Angus burgers as opposed to the standard frozen "hockey puck" burgers that other Drive In's feature. The burgers ARE very juicy and flavorful. The employees are friendly and helpful, especially if it is your first time going to a Drive In. The projection is crisp clear and bright on the GIANT OUTDOOR SCREEN! Sound is delivered through FM or AM (No more in car speakers) You can "rent" a portable radio IF you would like to sit outside your car in a chair, or bring your own 80's boom-box! Intermission brings "classic trailers" like the PIC bug spray add from the 50's and several other gems from yesteryear! There is something "magical" about siting outside with the light from the projection booth, behind you, watching two motion pictures, under the stars that can't be put into words! In conclusion The Overlook is a real "gem" among the 30 or so Drive In's still operation in New York State! If you live in NYC,Jersey Rockland or Westchester County make a trip up to the Overlook Drive In!! You will be glad you did! read more

I love coming here and its totally worth the drive from NYC. Its very sad that there are so few Drive-Ins around. This place its awesome to come with a date, family or by yourself. You pay $9 (cash only) for two movies and you can either watch the movie from your car or bring a blanket/lawn chair and watch it under the stars. Since this is upstate it gets a little chilly at night so make sure to bring a sweater even if its summer. I always come prepared with some snacks and wine to enjoy the show. One thing I love about being here its the amount of stars you can see since in NYC seeing stars its almost impossible. They do sell food here like burgers, hot dogs and popcorn. read more

I've never been to a drive-in before, so I'm not an expert, but this was an interesting experience to say the least. My friends and I arrived at about 7:45pm for the movie IT (2017 version), and previews were still playing. We were grateful as we had assumed we would miss a bit because we read the movie was set to start at 7:45pm. Thankfully that actually meant teasers were set to start at that time. It was a very dimly lit entrance, so it'd be great if they put a light on near the entrance so cars know where to turn in, since we nearly missed the turn. Anyways, we found out it was $10 per person. I suppose that's not too bad, considering the absurd price of seeing a movie in theaters nowadays. We drove on into the field itself to park near our friends who had already arrived, and we were frightened that our car's tires would pop! The patchy grass and dirt road was horrifyingly filled with, would I call them potholes? Thank goodness her car was able to handle it, because my car definitely wouldn't. Just drive very slowly as you make your way in, I guess. It thankfully smoothed out when we were deeper into the field. The movie itself was great, though I guess because it's a scary movie it's really dark and can be hard to see some scenes. That was a bummer sometimes, but didn't ruin the experience as most of the time it was very clear and easy to see. There's a concession and restrooms too, which is really nice if you're coming at the last minute and don't have time to pick up snacks. I would come back again, and really wish I had the chance to see another one, but we went on the last weekend. Next season, definitely reserve a night for a movie at Overlook! read more

I had such a wonderful experience here. Driving in the lady who collected the admission was so sweet and very informative. It was my first time and she explained where the bathrooms were. The concession stand. And the ins and outs of the place. We went on Sunday to watch avengers infinity wars and was able to see black panther as well. 2 movies for the price of 10 dollars per person! Less expensive than a typical theater, the person next to you isn't disturbing you with their cell phone and the concession area is excellent! GREAT burgers & fries! The people (family) at the pay window are always friendly and like to provide your dog a treat! This is a well-managed drive-in and worth the schlep if you're into drive-in movies. Yeah, the bugs suck sometimes and there's ALWAYS some ignorant schmuck smoking in the car next to you, but overall this place rocks! Despite the higher cost this season, I again plan to attend when they're showing something I want to see. In fairness, I generally attend the Hyde Park location over this one, but I do make my way here once or twice a season. read more

Went here last night and saw men in black international. First I've been coming here for years and the family run operation is comforting. The ticket lady is sweet and kind and always remembers me even if I haven't been in a while or cheating on her with another drive in. The bathrooms are clean but could use a bit of modernization. The stalls are too small and need to be widened for the challenged. The snack bar is tops, the screen is well maintained and they show two movies for the price of one. I wish they did flea markets here as this place is perfectly located to do it and I'd be there a lot. May this place continue to stir in me magic moments of my childhood. Great PLACE, it's worth the DRIVE, I check this one of on my Bucket List! I drove out here from the city (Queens, NY) but let me just say it's so worth the drive! I came out here with my girlfriend and surprised her but this place is definitely worth the experience more than once! It's out doors obviously and to be honest, I got here when it was raining the experience was still amazing, you have your car on AC mode where only the radio works, the place gives you a station and since I got here EARLY I sat through 2 movies and my car still turned on towards the end! Keep in mind they will give you a jump start if your does not start. Food, they have everything for a fair price! The staff is extremely friendly! The intro's before the movies are amazing lol, they have their own commercials they use to use in the 1950's which was really cool, I was there taking pictures and got thought to myself so this was the feeling to go to the movies but in a Drive-in Theater : ) I did feel like I was in a time machine (no I wasn't drinking) Keep in mind it's a bit tricky to get to the location, I suggest you call them beforehand if this is your first time going here. Last summer my boyfriend and I started driving up to Poughkeepsie just to go to this place. I had never been to a drive in theater ....its as fun as I thought it would be. Pros: -Its cheap -You can sit in the car bring your own food...eat and comment on the movie without bugging anyone (as long as you have the windows rolled up -You can bring your own law chairs or blanket and site outside to watch the movie (just don't get run over) -you can bring your pet - the snack stand had funnel cake :) Cons: -Smoking is allowed on the premises, if you're sitting outside you may get stuck next to a chain smoker Great summer activity! read more

Can only comment on the weeknight we took the kids to see the Incredibles.... First of all, very expensive: $10 for adults, $7 for kids 5 and up. $7 for a small popcorn. Supposed to start at 8:45, was after 9pm when they started showing ads and previews..... then at least 20 minutes of the most ridiculous (won't even call it a cartoon), show with no talking in it, made no sense and bored the heck out of everyone. It was after 10pm by the time The Incredibles came on ..... on the plus side, all the staff were friendly and they keep everything clean. read more

The owners are lovely and the ticket prices ($10 pp) are such a great deal considering you see TWO movies for less than the price of one in a regular theater. As one of the few remaining drive-ins, it automatically recorded three stars -the fourth is for its inexpensive nature. Hidden on the backroads, bring a few friends -quite possibly a lady friend you've wanted to get close with for sometime, pick the appropriate movie, bring a blanket in case it gets cold and snuggle up my friends. Movies the way they are supposed to be -you and your beloved in a two hour embrace while your favorite movie plays -I might have been bred for earlier times. Love this place. I grew up right down the road from here so every time the summer comes around I can't wait to see all the summer block busters outside. The price is great and your getting 2 movies for the cost one one at the theater. Good food and popcorn if you want it or just bring your own. I recommend bringing a radio so you don't have to drain the car battery. It's also good if you choose to site outside on lawn chairs. Get there early so you can get a good spot and play some catch. Find me another great summer pastime like this and I believe you will have quite a difficult time. Let me start by saying the price alone is probably what draws people in. It is $10 for adults and $5.00 for children 5-11. Do the math at other movie theaters. Might I add that price is for two brand new movies in the comfort of your own car (provided you stay for both). They do have a consession stand with candy, popcorn and fried dough but my family loves getting pizza from our local pizzeria and bringing it. If you are a dog family well scruffy can come too and if the owners at the front gate know you have your dog they will give your dog a bone to snack on and a poop bag so you can clean up after the dog in case you forgot. As you can see there are not enough good things to say about this drive in and Hyde Park drive in which I do believe are the same owner. This is a throwback from the 50's and just another great event in the hudson valley. Happy movie going and hope your experience is as great as mine always is. read more

Love this place! I like that this theater isn't located on a main road so there is much less light pollution than at their sister-theater in Hyde Park (which is also very nice!). Both Overlook and Hyde park have that old time feel with modern amenities & the price is great. read more
