What a blast from the past! I'm from Lexington, so I grew up going to the Waltham location of Chateau. My mom passed away several years ago and she loved this place, so my bf and I decided to honor her by going to Chateau on Mother's Day. At first, the place was empty, but it was probably because people were at church. As we were leaving, the place was packed! The service was attentive and the food was as I remembered (not the best authentic Italian, but still good). I got the chicken parm and the portion was generous. One slight foul was that I ordered a cocktail without vermouth and it came with. I asked it to be remade and the 2nd one was what I wanted. I was looking to have a nice big yummy unhealthy lunch just had a long week and I went in and they have a lunch special. That is a salad or soup an entrée a dessert and tea coffee I got fried raviolis with meatballs chicken Parm a garden salad, a chocolate chip cannoli tea, obviously bread and butter and everything there was great. The service was great. I didn't have to wait at all. Everyone was very attentive even when the waiters switched shift there wasn't any lag and anything I needed and everyone was very attentive. I liked that they had combos you could choose from to sample Italian classics or signature staples. I got the combo with fettuccini Alfredo, chicken parm, and toasted ravioli. It was okay, felt like something I could cook at home, and the Alfredo sauce was lacking a bit, it was creamy but wasn't really flavorful or cheesy, it was really just cream. However, for some reason the leftovers were so much better than fresh, and it was nice the portions were massive. I liked there is a reserved parking lot for the restaurant to the right of the entrance as well as across the street so parking is easy. Met my done here for lunch as he lives in Waltham and we were in town visiting from NC. It has been a very long time since I've eaten here. Nd it has not changed at all. The bread is still great and they have many rooms to accommodate very large crowds. I ordered the meatballs and ricotta appetizer as I was not that hungry. The meatballs were big and tender they gave me extra meat sauce to go with the left overs. That sauce was very meaty and delicious. After a prolonged discussion, we decided on Italian and Chateau. Chateau is an old-fashioned Italian restaurant. My family had dined here previously, but this was my first visit. The large, brick restaurant is squat and sits at the corner. A sizeable parking lot sits across from the restaurant. Upon entering, there is a takeout area, as well as a small store where a few jars of tomato sauce and pasta are available for sale. The hostess quickly seated us; it was later in the day, so the restaurant was emptier than I expected. The menu is huge, so it took me a while to figure out what I would like to have. Should I go with the Italian Combo (parmigiana/pasta), spaghetti carbonara, or lobster ravioli? All of these sounded so good. My niece had the spaghetti with tomato sauce and a meatball (kids' menu), with a side of fries. She has a small appetite, so she eats very little of it. My nephew enjoyed his ricotta gnocchi in a cream-based tomato sauce. My brother had the lasagna; it looked delicious, but I resisted asking for a bite. I had the chicken marsala, a sizeable portion of chicken breasts with mushrooms and pancetta, served with pasta. The chicken was tender and the marsala sauce was flavorful. There was more than enough food for dinner and as leftovers the following day. We snacked on a loaf of sesame bread as we waited for our calamari and entrées. Service was fine. I needed a fast dinner before the yelp event at Reagle Theater. This is a particularly good Chateau location - I had never been to this one before. It has two parking lots and it's huge. All the staff I encountered were very friendly and welcoming - made sure I knew where to go and some instruction was definitely needed to get to the right dining room. My waitress was especially good. I enjoyed the toasted ravioli's which come with a meat sauce and I got a cobb salad. The food at Chateau is very much family chain restaurant food- it's a local chain feels like an vintage Olive Garden with a lot more character. I love that it feels old. I love that it feels like an old family restaurant. I love that it's "more upscale" but also comfortable. It's not slick and shiny - but it's nice in other ways. This is a good spot to have a multigenerational gathering - though I was there alone that day. There was definitely a private party going on in the room near my booth that day - when they walked in they sounded pleased with the room. If you need dinner before an evening at the Reagle theater - or just, any time you are in Waltham - Chateau's a decent choice! I'd do it again. read more

Have been going to the chateau for decades and the food and service has always been good. My favorite dishes are the chicken Parm and the classic fried raviolis. They are always generous with bread and other nice touches. The Chateau has a good family atmosphere and if you want a change you can always go into the lounge. There is plenty of parking so never have to worry about trying to locate street parking or run out to meters. We love to have birthday celebrations there and the staff always accommodates a larger crowd. I loved this past Christmas season the visit from Santa and Mrs Claus. read more

You can tell it's an old neighborhood restaurant. The Chateau has parking next door and across the street, and both must be needed occasionally because the inside is huge too. I've seen smaller restrooms in movie theaters! It's very cute though, definitely nostalgic, and lots of room. The menu has so many options, especially if you're there for lunch. I was craving Alfredo and their hit just the spot. The Cesar salad was classic perfect. They are, as many restaurants are, perhaps a bit understaffed. They should embrace water pitchers instead of having the poor waiters try to remember one refill. read more

Food has gone down hill and not as friendly as it used to be. Kind of sad . We used to love it here but not so much now

I travel from out of town and always get Clam chowder and sides and other entrees from them each visit, the Clam chowder being the draw. This last time the Clam chowder was an extremely small proportion even compared to other soups we ordered. This was a take out order. I haven't been in a few years. I ordered a pizza meatball and ricotta to go with toasted ravioli. Horrible. A heavy slab of dry thick crust meatballs you couldn't identify it was not edible by any means. It weighted a ton and was so dry you could not bite into it or even cut into it. This was my first time dining here. I ordered the prime rib. It was very good. Perfectly cooked rare. The meal came with bread, baked potato and corn. My server was a man of few words- the bare minimum interaction to take the order and serve food. I saw other more interactive servers. He wasn't rude or unfriendly just not interactive. Love that they have Montillios cake for dessert. When I ordered, I asked him to come back before I finished so I could place a to go order. After I paid my bill, he asked for my to go order. I already placed it via their app on my phone which was convenient and easy to use. He gave me a box for my leftover prime rib but didn't offer to send me home with containers for the horseradish sauce or au jus. My order was ready when I got to the front of the restaurant. When I got home, I realized my cake slice order was the wrong flavor. Ugh. I should have checked. I said that to the person who answered when I called and she refunded it- I appreciated that she said it wasn't my fault and I shouldn't have had to check. Despite the underwhelming experience, I would give them a second chance. They have a large menu and so much space- plus free parking lot across the street. Very popular for take out. I am a huge fan of this place. Consistently above average food. Not gourmet but quality you can count on and regardless of the location you can expect the same experience. Been going here sine I was a kid to the original location in Waltham. I generally get a veal or seafood dish. Last night for the first time on forever I ordered a LARGE pizza to go on my way by the Andover location. When I picked it up I saw the box and told the person at the counter that I had ordered a large not a medium, he told me it was a large. What happened! $19 for a medium pizza masquerading as a large, would rather they raised the price even more instead of ( I think) shrinking the box. I will still go back for good Italian food but the Pizza is off my list!! read more

If you do not mind waiting a little for service, the food is definitely worth the wait. This is the kind of place where the patrons are in NO hurry, they come to eat delicious food, drink well made cocktails, and spend their time having good conversations knowing that they will not be rushed by the servers. I have been coming to The Chateau for years and the food is always very good. I always ask to be seated in the all booth section. (There are two dining rooms). It just feels more cozy and intimate. I also have been ordering for years their Thanksgiving Family Meal to take home and loooove their chestnut stuffing. This used to be one of our favorites for lunch on Sundays when they had a location in Westborough. We were in Waltham today and decided to do a throwback meal. I was excited to get my once favorite lunch. The parking lot is huge so that is a plus, especially in downtown Waltham. We were greeted right on entering and seated in a booth in the bar area. All good. Out came the almost half a loaf of Italian bread and butter packets. Yum. I veered away from my favorite lunch and ordered the meatball sandwich and onion rings. Here's where it went sideways. Onion rings were tasteless. Sandwich was OK. My husband had the bolognese which was good. Service was slow, as in not attentive, rather than not enough staff. Servers were chatting over by the server area, it took a little eye contact to get them to return to the table. I noted the table behind us had a shared appetizer that was delivered after they asked about it. It was then delivered after their meals arrived. The Chicken Milanese, absolutely NO flavor at all, just a piece of chicken in real crunchy bland bread crumbs topped with another bland salad with old tomatoes, they should have used their own salad dressing, just a waste of money. I also ordered a side of Steak Fries, these were left over baked potatoes cut and fried with way too much salt. I don't mind paying for take out food, but I'm done with this place. Our party had a beer, glass of wine, and a cocktail to drink. The cocktail was pretty good. We each started with side Caesar salads. Crisp lettuce, a little over dressed, and a little too much cheese on them. For entrees, we had shrimp scampi, baked stuffed haddock, and their turkey dinner. The scampi patron felt like the seafood component came out of a can, and described the entree as mediocre. Same with the turkey. That patron's baked potato was cool. The haddock tasted fine, but lacked texture and the stuffing was unremarkable. Also, the butternut squash really felt like baby food. On the plus side, we were not rushed. Made a reservation for my daughter's birthday. She likes this place, I came all the way from Texas to see her. Got seated and then was ignored for 20 minutes. The two servers that were working the section looked us, ignored us, cleaned tables instead of even saying hello. After 20 minutes I got up to ask the hostess if their restaurant wants our business and right away she was dismissive. Like she knew that we were being ignored. Even the bus person pointed at us and asked why we haven't been acknowledged yet. The two servers seemed to be arguing over who's table this was, and both seemed to have terrible attitudes. I was willing to stay and be seated in another spot, but my daughter was embarrassed and just wanted to go. The host asked if I would Wait to talk to the manager. I said, why. Not like they were offering me anything to earn my business back. I was not Rude, loud or Disrespectful. Unfortunately this place has followed others with poor service, and no one seemed to care. This place is seriously amazing and I've been coming here since I was a small child. First of all, THE BREAD! The bread is something I would just go get with nothing else. They sell it by the loaves and it is so soft and gooey. Insane. Second, the toasted ravioli.... 10/10 SO GOOD. Would literally just eat that for the rest of my life. Their tomato sauce that they put on everything has such good flavor and is not at all too sweet (which I hate in a tomato sauce). The toasted ravioli is toasted perfectly with the right amount of crunch and good cheese on the inside. The only other things I've had here are really good chicken parm, veal parm and eggplant parm, all so delicious. The images below show a combo plate that I recently got. This was seriously perfect because I had no idea what I wanted, I wanted ALL of it, so this was awesome. It's the toasted ravioli, chicken parmigiana and potato gnocchi with alfredo sauce. 10/10 would order this again. I live in Waltham but hadn't been here in many years. Seeing it in the movie The Holdovers reignited my interest in trying it again. That being said I was still a little hesitant to go but I have to say I was very impressed with the food and the service. While I can see why people might feel the decor is a little dated, I'd say it adds to it's charm but more importantly the place felt really clean which is really more important to a good experience. My wife got the clam platter which was delicious and tasted fresh. I got a Cobb salad with sirloin tips. The steak was perfectly done and delicious. I'll definitely be back to try more from the menu. read more

This restaurant is a complete disaster , the food is so bad not even my kids ate , no one finished their plate( we were a party of 6) . We walked in and there are 4 tables with clients sitting on a Saturday night , I wanted to walk out right then but my wife felt bad .. big mistake she says ... Server was ok, but have vague knowledge of the menu and not once came to ask how the food was , I guess she kept seeing plates come back half full or untouched that she new better not to ask . Even the drink I couldn't finish . Still have 20% tip , but you couldn't pay me to come back here , I order spaghetti meatballs just to be safe(2 crappy fake meatballs) , but everything is from the supermarket , they do not make the sauce or the meat balls , calamari , burguer patty, fried zucchini .... Nothing here is made in house ... Read the reviews , the owner keep disagreeing with clients on their reviews instead of listening and salvaging the family business , if this place is open for another year it can only be for another purposes if you know what I mean , there is no way it's because of the food . The food was warmish marinara sauce and what seemed like frozen störe-bought meatballs. The whole plate was swimming in bland marinara sauce that covered bland stuffed shells. Didn't seem like there was any effort put into the food at all. The only positive was my glass of wine, and that their food made me feel like my Italian cooking at home is gourmet. We had an extended family reunion here last night and I'm impressed. The eggplant parm was very good. Not a ton of cheese on top and the sauce had a great flavor. Cassandra was our server and handled 9 people with ease and grace. The super Tuscan available by the glass was a treat. The bread was a whole loaf and just out of the oven. We live nearby and have come here for years. It's a very nice, family oriented casual Italian restaurant. They do all the basics well, and portions are generous. Service is always attentive, drinks are well done, and prices are creeping up, but still very fair. However tonight I ordered the spaghetti carbonara and it was literally dreadful. My husband says I should have known better, it's a red sauce restaurant, but if you do Italian, you ought to be able to put a presentable carbonara on the table. This was spaghetti in a milky broth, no cheese, no flavor, no taste. Just incredibly bad. That said, my husband's lasagna was very good. The original Chateau Restaurant in Waltham has been a staple of affordable, Italian cuisine for families for decades. During the Covid pandemic, they are still offering their full menu of classics for in restaurant dining, delivery and pickup. We have used their pickup services through Yelp and facilitated via GrubHub several times in recent months. The meals are well labeled for convenient self pickup, ready when scheduled and neatly packaged in individual servings. Staples such as chicken parmigiana or eggplant parmigiana with your choice of pasta and sauce are always in the go-to order. Occasionally one of the mix and match combination meals may be ordered to including lasagna or toasted ravioli or spaghetti & meatballs or even fettuccini Alfredo. I have also tried the chicken, ziti and broccoli with good results. Meals are accompanied with Chateau scali bread or you can order garlic bread or a multitude of appetizers or salads. The house salad and even the Caesar salads usually accompany our order and can be shared. Recently we even ordered some desserts. Obviously for take out you want to avoid ice cream or the molten lava cake, but the carrot cake or chocolate mouse or cannoli travel well. We also tried the homemade grape nut pudding recently, but it was a little too loose after traveling than what what you would find in the restaurant. All in all, the quality of food is what you remember and what you would expect from the Chateau. You get good value for your dollar and consistency is also a hallmark. They won't win any best of awards for culinary excellence, but you will be satisfied with what you order; and you may even need to wear those loose pants after you eat. Enjoy!! read more
