This company is great! I had to have work done on a foreign car and Jim and Andy asked me a bunch of questions and quickly figured out what was not working on my car. Jordan did the work correctly the first time. Best of all the cost was less than what they estimated! I knew I was at the right place because when I drove there, they were working on old cars, new cars, domestic cars and foreign cars. Our 18 yr old daughter just purchased a 2005 Jeep that had a little bit of rust on the frame. After some research for a local shop that does frame work, I found CSE Automotive in nearby Oreland ( we live in Ambler ). I spoke to Craig , and his knowledge and honesty over the phone was refreshing. After CSE took a look at the Jeep, they recommended a much more cost effective remedy than a dealership suggested, saving us over $500 bucks. CSE is great. Good and honest mechanics can be a challenge to find. Bill & his team find a way to get the job done, even when pressed for time. A couple things make CSE stand out. First, I can remember them as a kid and their legions of VWs. Second, they do have great service. On top of their service, they can do anything - enhanced inspections (hard to find) and motorcycle inspections as well as regular inspections/emissions. Bonus, if you are looking for an enhanced inspection, Bill is very knowledgeable and will guide you through the process as painlessly as possible. On the downside, they do get busy. Don't expect to wait around for your car. Also, CSE is not cheap - they are reasonable/fair. That's all I have for now. I broke down at 5:30pm and they couldn't have been more kind or more helpful. They stayed late to get me back out on the road and then called the next day to make sure I got home safely. Everyone that worked there was so kind and it was overall a great atmosphere. Any time I feel a small shake at speed on my steering wheel I turn to cse. They offer the best in road force balancing. I had my car lowered this time using H&R springs and cse did an excellent job as usual. Had rear brakes done with the rotors and pads being replaced. So the total tally was $1200. A little on the expensive side but if you want quality work done this is how much it costs. read more

What a horrible experience I had here. I give them NEGATIVE STARS!!!!! When you expect a repair bill after a quote for brakes and inspection of about $290 and the bill is $398 you can't expect anyone to be pleased. I told the owner Bill that I felt duped when he showed me that bill and that what he told me on the phone the 3 times we spoke before the work was finished was never that the cost would jump from $290 to $398. In the end the cost for everything previously quoted was more expensive and I felt like he lied to me on the phone. An example would be when he told me new wipers would be about $20 dollar and they ended being $36 and there was not much i could do about it. When he said that the breaks would be $160-$210 and they were $236. The fact that he told me he couldn't find the wheel locks and I offered to bring my car back anther day and he said he could try to break the locks off if i didn't care never once mentioning his intention was to charge me money to do that. Wasn't the hundreds of dollars you could have lost by me leaving to come back another day incentive enough to take the wheel locks off to keep the business but to tack on more cost and not tell me when you had opportunities to do so on the phone is shameful. Then when I told him I had a $25 dollar off coupon that I was looking for in my bag and he said don't worry about the coupon because i already gave you a discount and didn't let me use the coupon when as far as i could tell i didn't see any savings this bill was way too high. Don't get me started on the approximately $30 dollars in fees to "top off my fluids" which I never asked or authorized them to do. Eventually the best he could do was take off the "topping my fluids" fee. Big whoop! In my case I felt lied to and over charged. I will tell everyone in the neighborhood about my experience so they can be assured they make an informed decision for themselves and I would not recommend them to my friends or family. read more

I have brought two vehicles to CSE for shop work and frame welding. Both times they did an excellent job. The work wasn't cheap, but you get what you pay for. They also stand behind their work unlike a shop that may not be there in a few years. They have done an excellent job on an old diesel land rover that requires pretty specific maintenance. Took my truck in for clutch got it back with shift level in backward 4 wheel drive not working it was working when brought it to them - they claimed it was not their fault they never even tested the 4wd to make sure it worked after putting the clutch in I had to tell them the level was screwed up. Charge me another $1000 to fix it on top of $1500 ($400 over estimate)I had already paided for clutch - took them 10 days to fix the 4 wheel drive. read more

I have been going to CSE for 5 years now and I couldn't be happier with an auto repair shop...they are EXCEPTIONAL ! I have used them for some major cooling repairs,as well as tires, and run-of-the-mill repairs & maintenance...and my annual inspections. Bill & Jim always explain needed repairs and always let you know in advance what the cost will be. Expert repairs, friendly , and VERY accomodating ( shout-out to office manager Marianne, too). Fairly priced. I don't live quite as close as I used to, but no matter... I just can't see myself going elsewhere . I recently recommended them to my niece who has moved nearby,she is just as happy. Unfortunately this was not a good experience for me at all,they kept my car for two days without any contact I was quoted $500 price tag over the phone when I go to pick the car up now they tell me it's $700. The only explanation given was that the wheel bearing was hard to take off, I asked why no one contacted me about the sudden increase or permission to even continue?.. Dont want to write a book about it but I wound up STILL paying $625! and my car STILL makes the same exact noise that it made when I dropped it off. . read more

CSE is awesome. I've been using them for years and have had nothing but good experiences. There is practically nothing they can't fix. I've never had to return my car for service done improperly. The owner, Bill Sherwood, is very knowledgeable, personable and communicative. There is basically no up-sell on repairs. Bill only suggests repairs that are logical and will work. They work on all makes/models and all repairs have been completed in a timely fashion. I would definitely check them out for your next repair and/or service on your car. read more

I was quite disappointed with this service station. When the car was initially brought in, i requested an oil change, check the tires and see about repairing a button that actually fell into the door which controlled the side view mirror. It was suggested that I have the battery checked so I agreed. Conclusion: I passed on the button........it would have been close to $70 and really, I almost never adjust it. He changed the battery, as he said he tested it and it failed, he replaced one rear shock absorber and did an oil change. His bill............$530.00 THIEF! never again, and I will be sure to make our friends and neighbors aware. read more

STAY AWAY. If there was a such thing as a -1 star, I would give it: I sent my car here for repairs after running into a curb. I was told that the parts for my car had to be ordered so my car wouldn't be worked on until a few days. They weren't very good with calling back to give me an update on the car; they called after they closed or I would have to call to check up on the status of my car. Most times when I called to speak to Bill, the receptionist would answer the phone, asking "what my call was referring to" and I had to give her all of my information as if I hadn't called every day already. I dropped my car off on a Monday but it wasn't seen until Thursday. Bill gave me a price of $1250, claiming it would be a "little more with tax". My bill winded up being almost $1400. The receptionist left me a message on Thursday night (after 6p), telling me that my car was ready for pick up. Due to my work schedule, I decided to pick it up that Friday. When I called on Friday to pick up my car, Bill was unavailable and Jim was handling everything. He told me that my car needed a jump to start and that I needed to replace my battery. I asked him when this happened because in the voicemail I received the night before, there was no mention made of my car needing a jump and my car hadn't had that issue prior to my car receiving repairs. He claimed it happened Thursday when they moved it for the first time, which means my car sat outside for 4 days, unattended. Nobody said anything about my car not starting properly in the voicemail. Wouldn't that be something to mention? So, he offered to replace my batter for $134. No - I found a battery for much cheaper at Sam's Club. I asked him how much for installation, he said $10-15. I got a ride to Sam's Club to purchase a new battery, brought it to CSE and had them install it. Prior to me purchasing the battery, I called Jim and asked him the group size # for the battery that was in my car and he said 35R. When I got to CSE, I sat in the waiting room for 40 mins waiting for them to put my battery in. Jim returned to the office with "bad news" claiming he gave me the wrong group size # for the battery so it wouldn't fit in my car. GREAT! It's 4:30p on a Friday, I now have to return the battery and try to find someone to install it!! All because you didn't pay close attention to the group size # on my battery!!!! So, I pay my bill and Jim keeps apologizing but I wasn't interested in hearing his sob story. I don't care that it was a long day and you meant to get around to calling me and you made a mistake. You're doing a service. You need to make sure you have your ducks in a row before you give me information. I should not have to call you everyday to get an update on my car. That's YOUR job. So, I get them to bring my car out to me and when I start driving, I realize that my radio isn't working. I go back inside to ask why and he says it may be because of the battery. Right. As I'm driving back to Sam's Club to return the battery, my car shuts off in the middle of a turn. I had to wait 5 mins to turn it back on just for it to last long enough for me to park in the parking lot. I return my battery, come back outside and my car doesn't start. I get a jump, drive to Sears and have them install my new battery. The car turned on but my locks didn't work and my radio still wasn't working. I think I'm ok until I get to my next destination... By this time, I went to a store, came out and my car would not start. I got jumped 4 times, drove my car about 1 mile and my car shut off again. I had to have my car towed to Meineke and didn't get home until 10:30pm. I don't understand how a replaced suspension, control arm, wheel hub & bearing = my car battery dying and my car shutting off. I've never had these problems before. I've had a control arm replaced before and had no problems. I don't know what these people did or didn't do to my car but I will NEVER come here again. Apparently, this issue may be my alternator but it's just so funny that this issue arises after going to CSE. I'm going to get a written description of what's wrong with my car and if there's anything wrong that wasn't wrong before, I'm coming for them and they're going to compensate me for ALL OF THIS. They obviously don't take care of your car and Jim is an idiot. Stick to what you know and stay away from this "business". read more
