Honest and reasonable. Took time to explain pros and cons of different types of cars.read more

I would like to provide some insight for any potential consumers…read more I have purchased (3) Vehicles from Mayer Motors including a 2010 Dodge Ram, 2014 Toyota Prius and now a 2010 Honda CRV. Mayer Motors is locally owned and a small business at heart. From my understanding Nick (Owner) comes from a Mechanic/Machinist and Sales Background. Along with a passion for Automotive Racing. Unlike other "used car sales" these individuals provide insight and seek to find quality used vehicles in a very tough and competitive market, with small profit margins. Mayer Motors can be best described as a "family friend", keeping to some degree your best interest at heart. While this is still a business, driving by profit margins, I have seen them go up and try to make things RIGHT. Striving for strong Customer Service. In addition, I would trust my daughter or wife to shop there independently after doing their OWN RESEARCH. This research should consist of vehicles known issues, reliability ratings and proper inspection of the car itself. This is IMPERATIVE with ANY car purchase (Used or New). The vehicles are serviced and inspected. Working in conjunction w/ many other local small businesses such as J&H Automotive and Creamery Tires. What SEPERATES Mayer Motors from other competitors is the majority of their Vehicles offered are typically (1) Owner, Clean CarFax, w/ adequate maintenance history. While not all cars are up to the same quality, they offer the best used cars I have seen around. Some reviews I have read are mixed, while I do not agree with them, I can appreciate some frustration with any vehicle purchase. Keep in mind, as a consumer it is your responsibility to look at every vehicle. Some vehicles have been maintained better than others, w/ the goal to find the "diamond in the ruff". I liked the fact that everyone here seemed family-oriented (in chats with them, seeing pictures of family in their offices, etc.), and I was really struck by the quality of the vehicles on their lot. All of them looked like great cars at first glance. John made the buying process very easy and clear. He also set the car aside for me (taking up valuable space on the lot) after I bought it since I couldn't take it home right away. His price was fair for the vehicle, which was in amazing shape for an 8-year old car. Select Auto had also put brand new tires and front brake pads on the car; it seemed like they really wanted to get their cars into the very best shape before selling them. I compared numerous cars from other dealers and finally settled on the Lexus because of the maintenance Select Auto had done, as well as their atmosphere and reputation!

I gave him my number and he called me once a few days later to let me know the 2013 Camaro was still there. I went for a test drive and bought it a week later. No pressure. Good deal. Nice people. I noticed there were quite a few really nice vehicles on the lot too. I'd recommend them to friends and family without hesitation. Dan Lyons

Updating my review after Quality Investigation Closure:…read more Quality Assurance Officer conducted a refereed inspection on Tuesday, 11-May. This consisted of re-completing the road test as this is the part of the inspection that was questioned. We were warned before the event that if the car truly was unfit to pass the safety inspection, the inspection sticker would be scraped on the spot and we'd be on our own to get it fixed and re-inspected. At the end of the road test, the QA Officer indicated that he passed this car and would have written up the brakes and rotors as a recommended service. The inspection I got elsewhere stands and the sticker remains on the car. A brief restatement of the facts: Gear Heads Garage failed my car's inspection indicating repairs were REQUIRED in order to pass. Another facility inspected the car and it passed without repairs. I raised an investigation because of the discrepancy in the application of inspection code. The PA Quality Assurance Officer who oversees state inspections completed a re-evaluation and confirmed the car passed inspection as is and Gear Heads was admonished that the repairs should have been a recommendation.

Absolute scam artists. Brought my car in for oil change, state inspection, and preventive…read moremaintenance. Important to note, the car drove perfectly fine at this point. Was told my car failed inspection for play in the steering rack and would require a complete replacement (a roughly ~$2000 service after I'd already paid $700 for the inspection, oil change, and differential fluid). I told the tech I understood, but I needed the car for work and didn't have $2000 for the repair right now, so please put it back together and I'd let them know when I had the budget for repairs. As soon as I drove off the lot, I realized my steering was completely borked. The alignment was off by almost a full quarter turn of the wheel. Soon, multiple warning lights lit up on the dash for traction control, ABS, and emergency brake. When I spoke to the tech again over the phone, he said he was unable to fix it due to the rack being bad. So, let me just fully understand this... I gave the car to a repair shop and it drove fine, straight and no warning lights. Paid $700, picked it up, it's clearly broken, and you want me to believe you need another $2000 to fix the problem you clearly created? Frustrated, and leaving for vacation the next morning, I ended the call with no resolution. After returning from vacation, I called again and left messages that were never returned. Eventually, my wife got through, and was told they "don't have access" to the voicemail. The tech was rude to my wife, again reiterated they couldn't fix their mistake, but did offer to take a look at it when they had time (when asked if she could bring the car in immediately, the tech scoffed). Meanwhile, I had simply taken the car somewhere else for a second opinion. Wouldn't you know it, the other shop said that while the rack had a slight bit of play, they measured it and it was well within PA state inspection specs and safe to drive. As for the alignment, it was off more than 6 degrees and took the other shop over two hours to correct and reset the sensors. After another $130, I have a car that runs fine and is inspected. I'm not sure if it's a new management issue or what, but stay away from this place. I'll be letting the BBB and the state inspection board know what kind of scam they're running here.
