First time here and the food was yummy! My only qualm was that my chicken tikka masala wasn't spicy in the slightest. I ordered over the phone and said I like it spicy but not to the point where it becomes intolerable/takes away from the flavor and asked if I should order the medium or spicy. He said I should definitely order the medium so I did, but I would definitely call that a mild/no spice. There wasn't any hint of spice and that's what I'm craving when I order Indian, so it was a bit of a let down. Despite that, the chicken was very tender and I loved their garlic naan! We ordered lime waters and Laccha parathas with two varieties of chicken curries - Achari and Vindaloo. Accompanied by rice and Veg Biryani, this made for a very satisfying meal. It had been a while since AR and I had some good Indian cuisine, so when she found Chaska India on Yelp with a solid 4.7 Star rating, it was an easy decision. The name itself sets high expectations - "Chaska" means craving or addictive taste in Hindi/Urdu, and the restaurant translates that into "The irresistible taste of India." Challenge accepted! We stopped by on a late Saturday afternoon, around 1:30 p.m. The place wasn't too busy - just two other tables occupied by Indian families, which in my book is always a very good sign (thumbs up). I'll admit, I'm no expert in Indian cuisine; AR definitely knows her way around a spice rack better than I do. Our order: Mango Lassi ($5) Masala Chai ($4) Chicken Makhani (Butter Chicken) ($20) Goat Chettinad ($22) Paneer Tikka Masala ($20) Chana Saag ($19) Chili Garlic Naan ($5) Samosas (2) ($8) Total (with tip): $140 Service was friendly and attentive. During our meal, our server brought over a complimentary sample of their Masala Pasta - pasta tossed in a tikka masala sauce with herbs and spices. It was surprisingly good! To top it off, we were treated to a small bowl of mango pudding for dessert, which was a sweet finish to the meal. Overall, the food was very good, with generous portions and a nice variety of flavors across the dishes. One thing to note - when you ask for "hot," they take it seriously. The dishes we ordered at that spice level definitely delivered, spicy good! IMO, prices are on the higher side, but then again, what isn't these days? That said, I was very surprised to see a $5 charge for naan, especially given the already steep menu prices. Most Indian restaurants include some bread with the entrées, but here it's à la carte - kind of like an Asian restaurant charging extra for white rice. All in all, while the meal was enjoyable, I don't think I'll be back anytime soon. Dropping $140 on a late lunch isn't something I plan to make a habit of, especially with so many other Indian restaurants in South OC still waiting to be explored. Really loved the lunch special options. Clearly a lot of love and care put into the food. Our favorite parts of the meal: *Chicken was so tender and juicy, both white and dark meat. *Garlic naan was perfectly airy but also crispy, and seasoned perfectly. *Pakora light, crispy, moist on the inside. Not too greasy, not overly battered. We wish we would've asked about the spice levels of our food, because neither the tikka masala or the saag were spicy at all - still flavorful and delicious, but we think we would've preferred more of a kick. My husband and I were eager to try food at Chaska India which is close by where we live. We shared the Maharaja Thali (the meat lovers) which sounded delicious and appetizing in the menu. The Thali came around that was appetizingly colorful and nicely presented. The basmati rice and garlic naan were good. But the experience began to unravel, the sauces were too thick and sweet. The chicken in one sauce dish was tough at the first bite. The tandoori chicken which we selected lacked the real flavor and texture of tandoori chicken. We love Indian food especially its flavors and texture. We'll come back again and maybe order something else besides the thali. The staff is very nice and friendly. Customers including myself like to look around a restaurant with interesting decor as part of a dining experience unfortunately Chaska India didn't make the cut. read more

In the area, my little was craving for Indian. We order to go, staff were nice, and portions were generous. Everything was good, the flavor from the tikka masala shrimp was full of flavor and the shrimp was perfectly cooked which is a huge plus. I always worry if shrimp gets over cook, there was lots of shrimp as well maybe 10 pieces. The chicken wings lost the crust because of it being to go but still had great flavors. The garlic naan had the perfect amount of garlic, only thing was that it was on the chewy side we had rice to eat with it so everything worked out. They gave me mango flan also but so full I haven't got to it. The restaurant was empty when I came in, not much decor just painted wall colors. A place to try if you're in the area. I'm glad to have this authentic Indian restaurant nearby! You walk straight into the restaurant; when you smell the strong spices, you know the place is legit. I placed my order online. When I asked about it, it seems they missed it and told me to wait 10 minutes. I forgave them for the wait when they gave me a free mango pudding with fruit dessert and hope they do better next time since I love authentic spices. I got the butter chicken (perfectly creamy with tender and fresh chicken) which tasted so good with my garlic naan (2 big pieces cut into 4, bigger than I thought). I got the coconut soup and milk desserts since I was curious. They were interesting to try. The curry and naan were more than enough for 1 meal. I had leftovers the next day. I'll be sure to come back to get my Indian fix. The lunch seems like a better value with more things to try. read more

On November 20th I ordered Saag (Spinach) Pasta, Chicken Wings (Tandoori), Garlic Naan, Samosa, Mix Pickle and Dal Soup. I enjoyed the Saag(Spinach), the Dal Soup, the Samosa and the Mix Pickle. However, I was very disappointed because the Garlic Naan was tough and chewy, the Chicken Wings seemed to be hard and over cooked. A total disappointment for takeout. I was very hungry for this meal. The service felt quite rushed -- plates coming out quickly, but without much attention or warmth. The chicken kadai was very average, lacking flavor and depth. Decided to try Chaska when leaving Laguna Beach. 3 months old, but they were busy ! The vibe of the restaurant was nice; as was the staff working here. We ordered Reshmi Murg, Methi Chicken, and Bhindi Masala, garlic naan and chili garlic naan, all medium spicy. All of the food was made with passion, desi style, and super tasty! I've been to India more than dozen times, lived in Asia more than 20 years and even stayed in Little India in Singapore on a recent trip because I love Indian food so much. My wife and I ordered the Maharaja Thali, which has 3 chicken based dishes (chicken tikka masala, tandoor chicken and butter chicken), garlic naan, papadum, fried vegetables, raita, rice and dessert. (It said there would be samosa on the menu but we didn't get one. ) It's a lot of food. I felt the food was good but not authentic. The chicken in one of the curries was on the tough side; the tandoor chicken didn't taste like it was cooked in a tandoor oven; the curries were on the sweet side; and the spice level was on the bland side. The food had nowhere near an Indian spice level. If the restaurant could offer a spicier option to diners that would be good. The decor and ambiance was very plain: no artwork on the walls, just a TV playing Bollywood movies. All of the food was flavorful and delicious. The butter chicken was our favorite. The meat was so tender. The goat meat dish has several bones, so I would skip goat meat dishes next time.
