    Saag Paneer

Basanti is a great local restaurant. The Indian food was really tasty. we had the garlic na'an, which was soft and nicely seasoned. We also had the butter chicken and the Tikka Masala. Both was really good. We also had the Saag Paneer, which was really amazing. My son tried a sheep dish. He enjoyed that, too. I had a glass of wine and they gave me a free refill. It was late and we were the only guests in the restaurant, so the service was stellar. We're definitely going to go back for more.

5 Stars So Good! Can't Believe We Just Found This Place My husband and I were craving Indian food and ended up at Basanti in San Juan Capistrano. So glad we did! Everything we ordered was delicious. We started with the samosas and dal soup (both packed with flavor), then shared garlic naan, chicken biryani, and saag paneer. Every bite was amazing. Even the Taj Mahal beer my husband ordered was great. The service was amazing! Our waiter was super attentive and friendly. It's a cozy spot and beautifully decorated, which just made the whole experience even better. Can't believe it took us this long to find this place. We'll definitely be back!

We are SO fired up we found this place. We've been dying to find some good Indian food in south Orange County and this is 100% the spot. Keep in mind, we almost always get the butter chicken anywhere we go and that's how we base our reviews. The butter chicken was so so good. It could've used just a bit more spice but still solid. The chutney was delicious. Everything we had was solid. Looking forward to coming back here again. Cheers!

    Raw chicken

Raw Chicken Served -- Absolutely Disgusting and Dangerous I wish I could give zero stars. I ordered from this place today and was served RAW CHICKEN. Not undercooked -- raw. Pink, slimy, and completely unsafe to eat. I've attached two photos so you can see exactly what I was given. This isn't just a bad meal -- it's a serious health hazard. Serving raw poultry puts customers at risk for salmonella and other foodborne illnesses. It's clear there was no proper quality control in the kitchen. Pure negligence. Pure disgust. Needless to say, I will never order from here again and I strongly urge others to think twice before trusting this place with your health or your family's safety. Check the pictures -- this is what they're serving.

Had an amazing time with my friends here! The service was great and the food came out very quickly. We had the Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Vindaloo, and Chicken Dum Biryani -- all of which were absolutely delicious. The ambiance was nice. Highly recommended!

As a Bay Area resident accustomed to the rich tapestry of authentic Indian cuisine, I was thrilled to discover Basanti in San Juan Capistrano. In an area where high-quality, flavorful Indian food is scarce, Basanti stands out as a true gem. Since my first visit, it has become my go-to spot, and I find myself returning often. The Lamb Biryani and Veggie Biryani are exceptional, bursting with authentic flavors that transport me back to the vibrant streets of India. The tandoori dishes I've sampled are equally impressive, each cooked to perfection with a delightful blend of spices. For anyone seeking authentic Indian cuisine in Orange County, Basanti is a must-visit. In a word: awesome.

Lamb Biryani, Chicken Tikka Masala, Saag Paneer and Goat Curry

We decided to try a new Indian spot, so we went to Basanti. We ordered garlic naan, Lamb Biryani, Saag Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Goat Curry. The Lamb Biryani had great flavor, but I preferred the tenderness of the goat over the lamb. You can never go wrong with Chicken Tikka Masala, and the Saag Paneer was super tasty too. We also had the Old Monk beer and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. The staff were really friendly, and the vibe was cozy with music videos playing on the TV. We ordered a ton of food and were so full, but we still had leftovers to take home. Overall, great service and delicious food!

We went on a day when we had just been getting over being sick so I must say that we couldn't taste and experience the food to its entirety but I could smell the spices and taste a little and it was very good. We had the Chole, Daal, Seabass! The seabass was so tender and yummy! I also felt like chai and they gave it to us in little espresso shot cups which were perfect! I also forgot batteries in my Instax camera to take pics so they got me batteries :). Then I also forgot film so they invited back to have dinner again and to take pics They took care of us so well and I'll definitely be back to experience the full taste of the food.

You could tell they used nice ingredients like Mary's chicken, but the curries were very average though served in a fancy setting with ritz prices. Chicken was prepared well but with chicken tikka and other chicken curries, the proteins (chicken or paneer) offered alongside the curries were redundant and unnecessary. Seemed a bit like they were trying to justify the high prices with these dishes. Overall a bit too oily and we had a stomach ache later. The curry sampler for two was enough food for four. Wish they focused more on the recipes and fine dining quality/quantity.

I'd driven past it plenty of times on the way to the dog groomer and never once felt compelled to stop. Friday night changed that. We were hungry, but not sit-down-for-two-hours hungry. We wanted something better than fast food, but not some overproduced evening of cocktails and self-importance. We wanted food worth getting out of the car for. Rangeen hit that mark beautifully. Getting my wife on board took some work. She's not a curry person. But a few online photos of fresh, vibrant salads were enough to win her over. Inside, the place still showed traces of whatever came before it, a blank quick-serve menu screen hanging awkwardly over the counter, like a relic from another life. But this was table service, and a perfectly comfortable one at that. There were maybe eight or nine tables, and one lone server holding down the front of house. Casual, older, thin, moving with purpose. She greeted us warmly, dropped menus, answered the phone, checked back often, kept the table tidy, and somehow managed to make the whole room feel cared for without a hint of drama. I went for the spicy mango chicken. My wife chose a healthy-looking salad with grilled sweet potatoes, nuts, and all the things I generally avoid unless someone smarter than me orders them first. We added naan, because not ordering naan would have been foolish. The food took a few minutes longer than the impatient part of your brain might expect. But then it arrived, and suddenly none of that mattered. My dish was excellent: nicely seasoned bite-sized pieces of chicken, rice, a fresh side salad, and a spicy sauce that pulled the whole thing together with real intention. And the plating, that was the surprise. This wasn't tossed on a plate like an afterthought from the spot next to the grocery store. It looked like someone actually gave a damn. And that, really, is what stays with you. Not just that the food was good, but that care had gone into it. The ingredients may not have been expensive, I say that as someone who owns restaurants and knows roughly what things cost, but value isn't about raw food cost. It's about what arrives at the table, how it's presented, and whether anybody in the building seems to care if you enjoy it. At $19, this was a steal. For about the price of a drive-thru burger meal, I got something thoughtful, well executed, and satisfying enough to remind me why local places like this matter. And to the party of four next to us who only left a five-dollar tip: do better.
