We came in on a Friday night and the restaurant was empty. We got seated right away but the server took a long time to return to take our order despite being the only patrons. When we received our plates to eat, there was a piece of food still on the plate. The server took back the plate when he saw I noticed it, flicked off the piece of food and put the same plate back in front of me. We ordered the chicken tikka masala with a side of garlic naan. We get takeout from Basanti almost every week, and it has quickly become one of our absolute favorites in San Juan Capistrano. The food is consistently delicious, packed with flavor, and always hits the spot. I usually go for the channa masala with medium spice, and it's perfect--just the right balance of heat and flavor. It's rich, satisfying, and a great vegetarian-friendly option. My partner switches it up, but most recently had the chicken tikka masala and said it was great just like all the other dishes he's gotten in the past. Basanti is a great local restaurant. The Indian food was really tasty. we had the garlic na'an, which was soft and nicely seasoned. We also had the butter chicken and the Tikka Masala. Both was really good. We also had the Saag Paneer, which was really amazing. My son tried a sheep dish. He enjoyed that, too. I had a glass of wine and they gave me a free refill. We are SO fired up we found this place. We've been dying to find some good Indian food in south Orange County and this is 100% the spot. Raw Chicken Served -- Absolutely Disgusting and Dangerous I wish I could give zero stars. I ordered from this place today and was served RAW CHICKEN. Not undercooked -- raw. Pink, slimy, and completely unsafe to eat. I've attached two photos so you can see exactly what I was given. This isn't just a bad meal -- it's a serious health hazard. Serving raw poultry puts customers at risk for salmonella and other foodborne illnesses. It's clear there was no proper quality control in the kitchen. Pure negligence. Pure disgust. We decided to try a new Indian spot, so we went to Basanti. We ordered garlic naan, Lamb Biryani, Saag Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Goat Curry. The Lamb Biryani had great flavor, but I preferred the tenderness of the goat over the lamb. You can never go wrong with Chicken Tikka Masala, and the Saag Paneer was super tasty too. We also had the Old Monk beer and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. The staff were really friendly, and the vibe was cozy with music videos playing on the TV. I ate one and lowkey got full because when my dish came out, I ate about two piece of chicken with some basmati rice with two piece of naan, tap out! Had to take the rest to go, all in a good way, just didn't want to overly stuff myself since we had to head back to work. Worth the price, and thank you to our lovely waiter, he even offer us more basmati rice to take home with our dish. Amazing services, the food (If you like indian food of course) is really good. I haven't had fresh ndian cuisine in a very long time (Talking about 7 years or so) and those trader's joe frozen meals doesn't count. The chicken Masala wasn't spicy for me, in fact when I took mines home, I added in nuclear sauce and it was soo divine. Keep in mind, I have a higher spice tolerance so be warn, to some the dish is spicy but to me it wasn't. With this exceptionally well service this place was full of great hygiene, hospitality, decor, super attentive workers and professionallity. We used Basanti for catering at our party of over 100 guests for diwali this year at an outdoor location. the food and service was fantastic and all the guests loved it. The owner Roshan is very kind and accommodated all our food and service requests. they served us with a variety of appetizers that were made on site and served elegantly. amongst other dishes, their chat station and methi chicken was delicious. he also provided complimentary masala chai and s'mores for the kids. he came with a big crew of helpers snd servers who ran the show well. they did everything from set up, live cooking, serving and clean up. they even helped pack leftover food in disposable containers for the guests to take home. we would definitely use basanti for our future events and would highly recommend them. read more

OMG The MOST BUTTERRRYYY Butter Chicken ever, in a creamy, decadent tomato and cream sauce, and the freshly made, warm, toasty naan bread to help sop up every delicious morsel was to die for! Foodies, this is the real deal! (We also had the Lamb Tikka Masala which was exceptional!) And the basmati rice! Light and fluffy as air. Our gracious, kind host Gobi elevated the experience to another level with his attention to detail, especially delightful as he took pictures of all their spices so we can try to recreate at home. D#6 - Basanti had been sitting in my bookmarks for quite some time. I don't usually make it this far south, hence never making it to the restaurant... 'Until this particular Wednesday evening with AR. Most often when I eat Indian food it is at a lunch buffet. I know some of the dishes but not very many. A buffet is a good way to try different menu items. AR is much more versed in Indian cuisine/culture than myself. I just learned that in traditional Indian dining, it is customary to solely eat with the right hand even if you're left handed. The left hand is considered unclean and offensive. So, in the spirit of tradition, I attempted to eat using only my right hand. Being left handed, it was painfully awkward and slow going. "Come on, Darrell, we don't have all night!" - After several minutes, we both decided we were going to eat with both our left and right hands. HA! (Fine! I'm dirty & offensive!... 'What else Is new?!) Our order: Goat Cheese Naan w/Mango Chutney - Very good Himalayan Momos - Very good Dal Tadka - Good (Spice level: Mild) Vegi Biryani - Very good (Spice level: Spicy) Chicken Tikka Masala - Very good (Spice level: Spicy) AR & I enjoyed everything we ordered; notably the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Veggie Biryani. We both agreed that these two were our favorite of all the dishes. The Goat Cheese Naan was definitely noteworthy; very different than the standard naan. It paired very well with the mango chutney. Ambiance was fine; standard restaurant layout with accompanying Indian decor. The service was equally good; friendly, attentive and accommodating. Overall, it was another nice evening; good food and great company. Once again, like Seasons 52, we closed the place down. I believe it was 8:45pm; think we were the last couple to leave.
