They don't really love or respect you. The hours you spend on the phone with them will never be recovered. You have invested much time in trying to avoid a breakup but the abuse never stopped. There is a new fiberoptic cable company called Metronet doing new installs in Portage. Our new service began yesterday and we wished we had been able to breakup with CS years ago. I am surprised to read the unfavorable reviews provided by some. We have had excellent service from Charter for internet and cable TV. We use such service at our vacation home in northern Michigan. While we often need to seek help when having been away for some time, the service is friendly, prompt and professional. Just yesterday when coming back after a couple of weeks, we had no service. it turns out that our router was not working. I was told that since it was a third party one (not one from Spectrum) they couldn't help with it. However, after continuing to urge them to help, they in fact did. With their help I realized that the problem was that the electrical plug into which it was plugged had stopped working. When I plugged it in elsewhere, everything worked. Thank you Charter. It is Saturday and all I want to do is cancel my account and turn in my equipment. 5 phone calls and 3 locations I was directed to later I am told 1-1/2 hour wait to cancel the account and drop off equipment. On December 28, 2020 I cancelled my business and home accounts because Spectrum's internet was not reliable. In both cases it would cut out and caused continuous problems when working from either location. This was when Covid still required classes to be held virtually which caused my wife to not be able to hold classes because of Spectrum not being able to maintain the connection. From my business end, it would not allow me to enter customers information and save it in my management system, thereby, not allowing me to service my customers. I paid what I calculated was a prorated amount but they are still posting a unpaid balance on my credit report. They state that they do not prorate services and in my opinion, I will not pay for a service past the date I stopped using it. Also, it appears Charter Communications, their parent company doesn't want to hear from us because I'm not able to find a way to contact them to dispute the charges. I will NEVER go back to Spectrum and I suggest with all the streaming apps out there and the other internet services available, that everyone stay away from Spectrum. read more

So far our internet service through Charter Spectrum is vastly superior to that which we were getting through AT&T. Unfortunately, AT&T's prices are much better so we are currently paying only $10 less for Internet only than we were paying for internet and cable with AT&T, but we really don't watch TV anymore so the switch made sense. I just wish you could watch Jeopardy online. It's the only thing I really miss from our cable days. They have a new installation option where they send you a package with instructions and you can self install for $10 (or you can have someone come out to the house and do it for you for $50). Since my husband is a tech guy, we went for the self-install option. He found a few things in the instructions a little difficult to follow, but overall it took less than an hour to get up and running. read more

I like everything about Charter Spectrum except OnDemand. We continue to have issues with freezing,pixelating and sometimes being bounced off completely. It's a little better now but still some issues. A technician came out recently and spent an hour out so and couldn't find any problems on our end. About a year ago I almost got electrocuted to death as I was driving down a backroad and ran over a fallen power line in the middle of the road. It was completely unnoticeable as it was dark out and the wires blended in to the street. It wrapped up my car in a sort of slingshot, taking the pole down with it and covering myself in live wires. Freak accident that I figured I would be compensated for, or at least covered for. A year later, my parents just told me the truth of what happened (as I thought we had been compensated), and turns out WE had to pay THEM $5,000. The shock I was in after hearing this was unbelievable. I got covered in life wires, totaled my car, and could've died all because I was unlucky enough to be the first one to drive down the street, THEN had to PAY $5,000 to pay for a pole that nearly ended my life. Absolutely unreal. Charter Communications were the ones that charged me based on my knowledge. I wish the worst for this company and will be waiting for my compensation! read more

Absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced. We used Charter for years along with our whole family and just moved back into the area hoping to continue with them. My girlfriend and I spoke to Charles over the phone who went ahead and ordered a whole system without our permission or consent. Once it arrived to our apartment, we took it in to the local Charter store to get things resolved and explained our story. The customer service guy we got was extremely impatient and rude. Rolled his eyes at us and treated us like we were idiots, didn't let us get a single word in nor would listen to what happened. So we left. A few minutes later, Charles called back to check if we received the package. We told him that we didn't authorize it and told him our interaction in the store and he did NOTHING. No apology, no solution, no ANYTHING. Baffled how unprofessional and rude all their customer service folks were both in person and over the phone. If they did literally anything to try to remedy what happened, we would've been content but FUCK THIS! If this is how you treat your customers before they even sign a contract... YIKES! RUN! They will tell you that you need a new cable box then when they send their Tech guy he says nothing is wrong with the box and they send guys out to switch boxes eventhough the problem is on their end. I would not give Charter Spectrum even one star. I am very unhappy with customer service and billing. When I ask to speak to a live person, I am reminded it will cost $5 just to ask questions about my bill! Hello!? That's not customer service! I was promised a price per month for internet, and it was a lie. That price has never been honored. I dropped some of my services to bring down my monthly bill, I am still being overcharged three months later. The time I fought tooth and nail and finally did reach management for an explanation of my bill and a refund of wrongful charges, she was was an "ice monster" that wouldn't budge, and refused to admit even the possibility Spectrum made a mistake. She then insulted me for not being as underhanded as the company was, like I should have known better to look for hidden fees and weird unexplanable charges. Spectrum is a cold money-making machine with absolutely no care or concern for its customers. They will help if you pay them to do it. When Spectrum owes you money, they lay out the land mines and traps and FEES for you to get it back, (you won't get it back) but be late one day on a payment and the phone will start ringing. In fact, they start pestering you for payment two weeks in advance. I am fed up. I can't be the only one. So every time there's a glowing Spectrum review on top on YELP, I know Spectrum has someone putting it there to keep up the facade. The management as much as told me they would do things like this. The service is always timely, my internet is a good speed (general emailing and shopping and Netflixing), and the customer service has been great, and generally it's been a wonderfully hassle-free experience. I would give charter zero stars if that was available. We are not getting any tv channel's after trying to set up our cable box (new apartment), and I have called charter 12 times and i get told that they will transfer me to the correct person so I wait on hold for 10 minutes every single time and then the call just ends at the 10 min mark. Nobody will answer my basic questions and when they transfer me nobody ever picks me up off hold and i have to start over. This has been happening for over a week. I am especially enjoying Charter Spectrum Stream with the Ruko 4 box. For starters, Charter sends a Ruko 3 box with the order. It buffered constantly with the 60" Plasma TV. The Ruko 4 with a better processor has buffered only once and I'm not sure it was the Ruko 4's fault. Charter should add a few more stations / networks and include both HBO, HBO now & Showtime for the $20 monthly subscription. The 'fast' WiFi has been intermittent too. Over all Charter is doing a good job. I also subscribe to Netflix and Hulu (commercial free). read more

They advertise that I could get a package for $19.99 a month not a single one of my bills was below $30 for over two years I called and fought with people who barely spoke English and kept reading their script and kept trying to get me to buy a bigger package nobody listen. I was promised over and over it was fixed. I'm a single mom no support living on a budget they didn't care finally I decided no tv was better than dealing with this company. After I cancelled it and sent back their equipment. I use Charter Business to run my restaurant. It runs my POS (computer systems), Credit card system and VoIP (phone lines). The very first day I had it installed it went down. It has continually gone down ever since. I used to call customer support and demand service, (I've called over ten times), 4 difference techs came out, and promised resolution with no success. Now when the Internet goes down, I reset my modem and pray. 90% of the time this works. Charter does not work. After a year of this headache, I have switched to AT&T. read more

Absolutely the worst customer service I've ever experienced. My husband and I wanted to switch internet/cable providers after hearing about Charter's TV streaming service, so when I came home from work one day to see that someone from Charter had been by and left their card, we went ahead and called them to see if that service was available for us. The guy was extremely nice over the phone, and told us of a great deal where we could get internet/TV installed for free for $0 the first month so if we canceled TV within 30 days (but no sooner than 15, or else we'd be charged for the installation), all of the installation would be free and we could continue with the internet and add on the streaming service (with a free Roku!) which would end up costing only $60/month. This guy even got off the phone with us to call his supervisor to make sure this would all be okay. After waiting around 20 days, we called Charter to go ahead and cancel the TV and switch to the streaming service, and they said if we wanted to do that, we'd need to wait at least 60 days of not having cable before we could get the streaming service. We told them who we spoke with originally, and how he said he had cleared this through his supervisor and they said they could not help us. We called the original guy and he said he would take care of it for us...but we never heard from him again. We left multiple voice-mails for this guy, and we still have yet to get a call back. My husband went into the portage office to speak with his supervisor, and was told he was not in the office so we left our phone number with the front desk and they said he should be giving us a call within 48 hrs. Two days roll by and no call. My husband goes into the office again - same story. We goes in for a 3rd time and the person at the front desk said to give corporate a call if we don't hear back from this supervisor in 2 days. The front desk guy ended up giving my husband a call back and said that he received a call from corporate who said that we "must have misunderstood the guy when we were on the phone with him" and that he probably meant "we could buy the Roku ourselves but the streaming service wouldn't be available and they are still testing the Roku Deal capabilities in our area". So basically, we were lied to and it's apparently our fault that we didn't interpret "Yeah, I checked with my boss and he said scheduling the installation is fine and we can just switch you to the Roku streaming service after the 30 days is up" to "You'll need to pay for a Roku and the service to stream through it won't even be available and might not be because we're still testing it in your area". Oh, and we have yet to hear from the original guy or his supervisor. read more

I called to pay asked if services would be restored same day and was placed on hold she returned saying I spoke with retention department and supervisor and that yes it would be on today. I payed and was transfered. I was then told it would be another $97 and that weds was early as they could do. I would rather continue to use data on my phone and be charged extra to create Hotspots for my devices than use this service again and since no other providers are in my area I will have to. The phone agents care little to none as is evident in the fact that my questions where not answered they just blurted out information sometime before I finished asking. Our account with Charter closed over 1 year ago. We returned our modem and paid our final bill in full. Imagine our surprise when we received a collections bill (following no bills or request for money for over 1 year) from Credit Management stating that we owed $112 and that the original creditor was Charter Communications. 6 hours and three phone call / chatting sessions left us with the same exhausted situation. A rep telling us we clearly owed no money and a promise to resolve it. With subsequent calls, we pressed for management or the collections department to no avail. They refused to help us resolve an issue that was created by them, that was damaging our credit, and sucking our time, and taking from our wages in lost work time. As I spoke with some others, I discovered that ours is not an isolated incident. This company not only doesn't care about customers, but seems to be making unethical attempts at collecting money that they are not owed. A friend I spoke to said she found a collections item from them and she has never even had a Charter account before. Buyer beware, for sure. read more
