While I've been to San Antonio several times before this was my first visit to The Tower of Americas to eat. The restaurant near the top is a Chart House restaurant of the Landry's food empire. I made the reservation for dinner about a week earlier online and during these days of Covid there was plenty of space available. Eating at this restaurant requires paid parking and my fee at the gate after telling the attendant I had reservations for dinner was $8. The base area of the Tower is attractive and walking inside I noticed a gift shop. The restaurant has its own elevator with an attendant at the bottom to verify your reservation. The ride up allowed the view out of just one window and took about 30 seconds to get to the top. It was kind of anti-climatic on the way up. Being over 700 feet high the view is of course nice. After all, that's really why you come to eat here. I was given a very good table next to the window. The restaurant rotates and completes one revolution every 45 minutes. I ordered the Mahi meal ($38) with vegetables and rice and asked for the fish to be sautéed. Also, I added a small side of sizzling mushrooms ($7). While waiting for the meal, I watched the sunset and enjoyed the view however other than the Alamodome the only other items of interest were the downtown/Riverwalk area of town when it rotated in view. The meal arrived about 20 minutes after ordering. Honestly, I thought the fish was kind of bland tasting. Where was the flavor? The veggies and rice were just ok. My favorite item of the meal were the sizzling mushrooms. Yes they were sizzling and very tasty. So the food overall was barely a 3 and when the price is factored in became a 2. For the money the fish should have been better. To solidify my 2 rating was the table service. My guy started off well but failed miserably as the evening progressed. He gave very slow service and was not attentive at all. When you factor in this is an "upscale" restaurant his performance lacked big time. If you feel you want to come eat here for the view and pay those prices here are a couple of tips....make reservations and if for dinner make your reservation for about 30 minutes before sunset. Or I guess you could just skip the restaurant and go up on the observation deck for the view only. Check on ticket and parking prices for that and you decide. read more

First of all, what started out to be a disaster date for happy hour with my wife at the bar in the Chart house was turned in to an absolute perfect date and it was all because of the manager Joseph! Joseph made sure that despite some challenges that we had getting to the restaurant, he made everything better and took the time to check on the guests and made sure that everyone was taken care of and had the best experience in the restaurant. I enjoy providing yelp reviews and I want everyone who reads this to make sure that "when" you do go to the Chart house rest assured that Joseph will treat you like you are a VIP because that's who he is and that's what makes him a outstanding manager. I decided to take my wife here for our 37th anniversary. We went on a Wednesday night. Of course, since it is located on the top of the Tower of America's, the views are amazing. I made our reservation so we would arrive before sunset so that we could experience sunset and the city lights of San Antonio - we were not disappointed! When we arrived, we were checked in on the ground floor and then went up to the top. The host had our reservation and we were immediately escorted to our table, which was in a very cozy (not cozy in a bad way) table that was directly next to the window, ensuring we had a great view and privacy as well. Our server was top notch. Throughout our dinner (2 1/2 hours) she checked back with us appropriately; she had a friendly personality and her suggestions were spot on! We received our beverages immediately and the water and soda were continually refilled before they ever ran out. For an appetizer we had the spinach and asparagus dip with chips. The presentation was nice - and a bonus was that the chips were actually warm when served. I had the lobster bisque soup and it was wonderful! Just the right flavors - not overpowering and not lacking. My wife had the chop salad and the dressing was a bacon vinegar dressing which had an amazing flavor to it. It was a very large salad and I got to sample some of it. For the entree we both had prime rib - my wife the small cut cooked medium and me the large cut cooked medium-rare. Both were prepared perfectly and tasted wonderful. The au jus had a really wonderful flavor to it. My only 'complaint' was that the horseradish was neither fresh nor very flavorful (seemed like a bottled mayo type) and was not on par with what I am accustomed to at prime rib restaurants. It wasn't bad horseradish - just not good. The 3-potato mashed potatoes wonderful as well. Overall, the entire experience was top notch. There was quite a lengthy time between completion of the appetizer and when our entree arrived, but given the scenery (which continued to be different since the restaurant is rotating at 360 degrees every 45 minutes) it was not something we were overly aware of. If there was a 4.5 Star, I would have given that. While the price is a bit on the higher end, given both the food and the experience, I believe it was reasonable. read more

I was told to come to Tower of Americas from a local as one of the places to visit while visiting San Antonio. I booked a reservation at the Chart House and got friendly service. The revolving view is spectacular but I felt it was a little claustrophobic. The food wasn't too bad. Based on Yelp reviews, I ordered the filet mignon and sizzling mushrooms. I ate all the filet mignon. I enjoyed myself and I recommend to anyone who also visits San Antonio. read more

We were iffy about having our wedding anniversary here due to mixed reviews we got but We actually had a great time! The only reasons I'm giving it a 4 out of 5 is that They tried to seat us at a table that couldof fit 6+ people but we asked if we could wait for another table since we did make a reservation weeks ago... and in the reservation it stated we were celebrating our 4 year wedding anniversary. The hostess was super nice tho and told us 30/40min wait which to us isn't bad, but we only waited like 6 minutes still got seated at a table for 4 but it was still nice. Amazing view. Our reservation was for 5:30 so we caught the sunset which was beautiful. Our waiter we got was amazing and super helpful. The food was actually really good. The potato's yummmmm And our waiter surprised us with our lava cakes with a special little message at the end of our meal. over all great experience. The other reason I'm giving it a 4/5 stars is the lava cake wasn't "lava" I was expecting some type of hot fudge to ooooozzzzz out of the brownie when I broke into it.... What a view! We enjoyed a pre-holiday dinner for two in the spin (the restaurant, located in the top of the 750-foot tall Tower of the Americas in downtown San Antonio, rotates), and while not for the faint of pocketbook (it was pretty spendy, but we didn't skimp, either -- two cocktails, a multi-course meal for me, soup and steak and lobster for my husband), it was memorable and worth it. There were cocktails and non-alcohol cocktails; I enjoyed their Blood Orange and Sage to drink, and their "Chart Your Course" three-course menu for $45, with a bisque soup, their shrimp trio, and we split the hot lava cake, which was fantastic but uber-sweet! Some critiques: signage and instructions on where to queue for the elevator (both going up and coming back down) were nonexistent or not obvious. I did appreciate the enforced limiting of number of passengers in the elevator, as people likely wouldn't have been reasonable about this on their own. You pay for the view, not the culinary experience, so if you're looking for great food, I would find somewhere else to go. Server was nice, but seemed to have too large of a section to handle properly. The bisque and the chowder were fine, but luke warm at best. I ordered the king salmon with golden beet risotto. I didn't complain bc it wouldn't have made a difference but my food was under a heat lamp so long the arugula was wilted as if sautéed. The salmon crunched when I cut into it, and don't get me started on whoever filleted it. Also, that was anything but risotto. My husband got the shrimp and scallops. I would normally understand but it wasn't busy and other people got served after us who go their food and drinks before we did. Again, good food and drinks. Terrible service. No apology for anything, no mention of sorry it took so long, didn't ask you for drinks or anything is the big pain point. For sure wouldn't go back. This was the greatest experience being in San Antonio. It's nice there is a separate elevator only for the restaurant so no need to buy tickets for Tower of the Americas (you do pay for parking $20). I do recommend having a reservation. The views are incredible and unbelievable. The restaurant also rotates so you get a full view of the city simply by sitting and enjoying your meal. The food was delicious along with the wine. Service was a little slow but we didn't mind at all because the view made us never want to leave. No, I don't want my dinner conversation interrupted by some teenager trying to sell me a green screen backdrop photo. Grey goose dirty martini, looked small, sad and tasted like straight vodka. Normally you get a martini filled to the rim, not an inch from the top. 9 Oz filet mignon, ordered medium, came out rare, but we had already been waiting so long I wasn't sending it back. The room was so dark, once the sun went down, it was hard to even see how the steak was cooked. Lots of camera flashlights from people trying to read the menu. 99% of the employees look like they're in prison and/or depressed. The Caesar salad is amazing. Bless the dressing maker. read more

Whether you are dining in the rotating restaurant or just having a cocktail at 601 (upstairs) you are in good hands from the Chef to the Wait staff. So I planned a trip to San Antonio for my wife and. I thought that a rotating tower dinner would be a great way to cap a wonderful day together. It is mixed on how I feel the evening went but based on experiences, I think it warranted a three star rating for the following reasons. It was a lot of work to get to the tower so once the GPS gets you to the tower you have to hunt for where you can park. There are some signs but a bunch seem to be missing and you may end up going the wrong way. I did book using OpenTable and I would have expected a notice that it is hard to find the entrance. We were told they get that a lot for first timers. We finally make it to the tower and we had to pay $10.00 to park to get in the gate to the tower. Not a big deal but could be mentioned in the restaurant info. We found our way into the tower and the night was starting off. To get up to the tower we were required to get a photo that we can purchase later on. After waiting in line for photos we had to wait another 5 to 7 minutes for and elevator. They only had one working and there were many people going up and down to the observation deck and to the bar and of course some to the restaurant. We showed up at 730pm for a 745 pm reservation. We finally made it up at about 8pm after numerous elevators and people. We get to the host stand and we were seated after being told we were late but they held our table. Well thank you. I wasn't told to be an hour early to find the seemingly hidden entrance and wait for photos and wait to take an elevator. But thank you for holding our table. The restaurant was nice for its age and seems to be well maintained. It was not a full house but about 60yo 70% for sure. A band was playing up in the bar and the Music came over into the dining area. We were seated next to the windows which was nice but as it rotated a lot of the windows were fogged up with condensation. So it was hard to see clearly out. Service was slow we sat for about 20min before we had a waiter and the appetizer a single crab cake took about 40 minutes to get. My wife ordered their 3 course meal 56.00 and I got a 14oz Australian lobster tail, market was 105. It took almost an hour to get our food. The 3 course meal was good she always lets me try it. The pasta dish was excellent. My lobster was not Great it was way over cooked and hard to eat. I tried to cut it with the knife give but it wasn't doing good so I just ate with my hands. I would have said something but we didn't see anyone come by until we were literally done. Eating. So we sat at 8pm and didn't get finished eat because of long wait times until 1040pm 2 hours and 40 minutes to Get 1 crap cake, 1 cup of Soup, 1 lobster tail, 1 pasta dish and a mini lava cake. One of the other things that was frustrating is the lighting as the restaurant rotated the lights in different areas we very dark. Dark enough not to be able to read the menu without a cell phone flashlight. Not sure about the inconsistency but it was frustrating not romantic. In addition when we rotated by the bad we could barely carry on a conversation because we couldn't hear each other. Unfortunately, we were near it trying to order and couldn't even hear the waiter. My wife asked for a fruity drink and a lavender lemonade was brought. I was away from the table and the person dropping it off couldn't hear the drink wasn't right and left. The band is just too loud. I am not Sure we would return given the outlay of 250 +tip was worth it. It would have been nice to see out a bit more but again the windows had condensation due to faulty design. My wife's food was good I would avoid the rubbery lobster for the price. read more

This location looked like a ghost town from driving onto the parking lot. I can see how people would think the tower was closed since the signs didn't indicate that they were open. We almost missed the turn into the lot thinking it was only for construction workers. Parking was $20 and no cash was accepted. The ambiance outside leading into the front entrance felt a bit of loneliness. Hardly any signs that brought attention to any of the entrances. I thought about getting back into the car and leaving, but since I paid $20, I reluctantly walked inside. First thing I saw was the retail shop and walked in and was greeted by the multiple staff standing near the front of the store. The store was clean and organized. I asked if I could purchase a ticket to the observation deck and a staff said they don't sell them at the store, but to go outside to the ticket booth. I couldn't find it with all of the fencing so I went back inside and decided to see if the restaurant was open for business. The host asked if I had reservations and when I didn't, she questioned if I was a walk-in. At that point, I wanted to tell her nevermind, I won't dine here. I thought that it may have been busy so I told her it's ok if there are no tables available. She said there were and asked me for my name and number. She gave off an un-welcoming tone and manner. She then told me to have a seat across the way where a tired chef was seated. As I waited to be called, the host stood in front of the stand and pointed at me to come over instead of leaving her post to come over to me. She said that my information didn't get saved into her computer and asked for my name again and asked me to retreat to the seating area. There were only 2 other people waiting for a table upstairs so when I received the text to go back to the host, she asked if I received the text. And handed me a square piece of paper with CH written on it and said that the elevator is to her left. I thought she would escort me to the elevator since it wasn't visible from where I was standing. She just repeated that the elevator was to her left. At this point, I'm already having anxiety from the host and still not sure if I wanted to eat here. I was greeted by another host at the restaurant and was escorted to my table near the window. As the restaurant was rotating, I started noticing how dirty it was. And really wondering if I should eat here after seeing that. I didn't get much historical information from the staff about the rotating restaurant, other than the host saying it takes 45 mins to fully rotate. The room temperature was a bit warm so it helped that I have a small fan with me. As for the food, it was delicious. I thought that a manager would stop by to see how things were, but that didn't happen. I would have expected more from the staff to be welcoming and also the area to be clean for a restaurant like this. Very cool experience eating here since the restaurant was at the top of the Tower of Americas and it also rotated so you got to see all of San Antonio. The food was great, definitely worth it, I really enjoyed the shrimp and crab fondue and the hummus platter. I already read reviews before coming here and I knew based on them to try those plates out. I'm glad I listened to them because it was just so yummy. My grandparents got the cheese and bread plate which they loved but I didn't try any because it's not my kind of taste. For the chopped salad, I thought it was good, it had a nice light dressing and the orange stuff at the top was flavorful and crunchy. Overall it was a great special experience that I'll probably only get to experience one time since we were just visiting San Antonio. read more

We started off with an Extremely generous appetizer- fried Calamari. There were 3 of us and we couldn't finish this large appetizer. It was a different twist on Calamari, more Asian infused but delicious! For the main course had the filet mignon that was cooked perfectly, however slightly in the dry side. Was able to taste the paneed chicken and this was by far the best dish on the table!!! Highly recommend!! The prime rib was lacking in flavor but cooked well. Mashed potatoes were a little dry and on the somewhat slightly warm side (closer to cold). All in all the ambiance was nice, this was for a special occasion so not an everyday restaurant. Worst experience ever, birthday dinner completely ruined. It was 10-15 minutes before my party of 8 was acknowledged at the table. We put appetizer and drink orders in and asked for bread, that took 45 minutes to come out and it was cold, no bread. Prior to the appetizers coming out we put our food order in because we saw how slow things were moving. At this time we had been waiting an hour and a half. After the waitress passed us up several times without saying anything to us. We stopped her and asked for the status of the food. She said she didn't know. We asked if we could at least get the bread that we had never gotten. 15 minutes later she passed us up and gave bread to a couple that just arrived. Then she went back and got ours after we asked for the 3rd time. This passive aggression continued until we had enough and canceled our order over 2 hours later. It took another 30 minutes to get our bill paid, for the drinks that we ordered. Paid $20 for parking and no food on my birthday. I was utterly embarrassed that I picked this place. read more

BEWARE! This is also a hit on OpenTable because I used their menu link to decide to go here. The menu wasn't the same and I'm not talking small differences. As my husband said the food is uninspired and stuck in the 80s (or earlier). My steak was OK and my husband's coconut shrimp was fairly flavorless. The band in the bar one floor up blared out to where we were which wasn't how we wanted a 25th anniversary dinner. All I can say is that the views were beautiful. She asked me to pack my own food And also did not ask me to cut into my steak to see if it was cooked to my liking The food was not over the top great but good. I don't think they did Temperature in the restaurant was not comfortable at least for me as I felt super cold as if eating outside and it was already cold outside. The hot cheesy macaroni ghost very stiff and didn't last as gewey as I think it could've if the temperature was good I ordered the shrimp cocktail they gave me an extra piece and that was generous. Then ordered the filet minion with chimichurri butter the smaller one I believe and a side of macaroni and cheese. The chimichurri butter was not added and instead of asking me if they'd take it off the receipt she said I'll get a side ti go home with you. Ummm not the point. Point was it wasn't added with my meal which is I wanted to begin with. Not to take home. I would've ordered to go if that were the case. So I had to ask are they still going to charge me? I'm not paying for take home I'm paying for dine in experience. Took my mother and grandson for Valentine's Day. The ambiance was amazing and the service was excellent.

Unfortunately, the great views don't make up for the terrible food. The hostess informed us they were running behind and wouldn't be able to seat us at our reserved time, so we went to the bar for a drink. The bar was busy but we were able to snag a few seats where we sat for several minutes before any of the bartenders even acknowledged us. The monarch margarita was far too sweet for my taste. The martini was good though. Our server was kind and attentive I should have taken his advice and avoided the shrimp pasta. The shrimp was over cooked and rubbery, and the pasta was tasteless and plated in a puddle of mystery liquid in the bottom of the dish. The prime rib was nothing to write home about. For appetizers we had the meatballs which would have been much better if they hadn't been cold. The parmesan bowl for my Caesar salad was stale and not crisp. The menu said the lava cake is "highly recommended" but in my opinion Chili's makes a better version. Do yourself a favor and skip dining at chart house. read more

Views were amazing, and we had a great time overall. The sun can make it a little hot, but when you rotate away from the sun it gets much cooler. The food was as acceptable for somewhere as popular and high demand (especially of tourists) as the tower of Americas. The drinks were weak, but tasty still. It was lunch, so we opted not to get steak or salmon, and were happy with the sandwich and shrimp. The hummus appetizer was a good start, but a bit bland for those who like hummus. read more

So because we went on a Monday night and got seated almost an hour after our reservation, they said drinks would be slow to come out because they had to go up to the bar since their bar area was closed. I might be a bit bias here, so please take this specific review with the grain of salt. Due to the fact that I get disoriented when I'm higher than ground level, it is difficult for me to be a judge here. We visited on a Valentine's Day. There's the Valentine's menu with three entree options. One in which I selected, but they have ran out of that particular dish. Very sad. Ended up getting the same thing as my partner for the entree. We got an appetizer in addition to the menu due to our love for calamari, so we couldn't resist. The service is not my favorite part of the meal; thus, for the three stars. The dessert and calamari were most likely my favorite part of the meal. Wouldn't really recommend the Valentine's special drink. More of a gimmick and festivity than anything else. read more

Let's start off with the service. The service was amazing. Our waitress was . She was attentive. Caring. Everything you could want. After the service we were let down. $20 parking. Even with a reservation. They could at least comp you parking. Checking in, getting up for our reservation had no issues. They accommodated us without knowing I had joined they $25 charter club. 5 years ago I went and they refused to give us seating by a window on a Wednesday night without paying for the club. Even though no one was there. This was the only improvement. This "fine dining" experience is really only for the view. It's not for the food. There's nothing special about anything, other than the view. It's a $200-400 dinner with the taste of Golden Corral or Ponderosa. That's the quality of the food. The steaks are tough. The lobster tail didn't taste fresh. The off menu Mac and cheese had plenty of watered down cheese for a $12 add on. Lots of cardboard tasting. No bread or any complimentary starter, that all other fine dining offers. No specials on menu. Not one exciting part of menu. I did expect more for the most expensive dinner I've ever bought. Without the view at a ponderosa I found have paid $37 for two without the wine. Food ( 1 star) - lacks taste. Flavor was generic. bland. The steaks were gritty and unflavored, even with a $3 seasoned butter up charge. -$14 bowl of lobster bisque was absolutely insulting. Like it had fake lobster seasoning. Lots of flour. ZERO pieces of lobster. Not a hint of lobster in it. What was I paying for exactly? The mashed potatoes were gritty. Reheated, and old. I didn't taste any garlic in them. Atmosphere- the you do rotate that's fun. You can experience the sunset. We went at 8:15. Great time to catch the sun going down to the night lights. Air conditioning was HORRIBLE! It was soooo hot. Made it very uncomfortable while eating. Took a lot away from the environment. When you can't be comfortable and sweat just from sitting, it's too hot inside. It would be nice if they fixed this. There's lighting and picture in walls that rotate and impose a huge glare on windows. Decor is very outdated. The tables and cushions are 80's ish. The music was loud, boring. Took away from the experience. Total crappy music. Nice classical, jazz, or something would be better. If they fixed a few things, it could make the average consumer feel better about the experience. 1. Comp parking with a dinner reservation. 2. Add some nice bread and butter to make it feel like a fine dining experience. 3. Fix the AC. Beyond the easier fixes. 4. Let's get a real lead chef. Make this menu stand out. With flavor. And make it respectable. It's insulting and sad this is what they call quality. I hope there are other Landry's are better. Over all it's even declined from a few years ago when I went. It still is over priced, very low quality food. I do not recommend wasting your money. You'd saved $100's and be happier if you went to a Texas road house or an outback, and just paid to go to the top. The food in comparison is superior at any other chain restaurant. read more

My husband and I came here for the second time after enjoying the ambiance of our first trip a few years ago and had a great time. The view is great, plus the unique-ness of rotating around to really get a 360 view. There was a bit of a wait after we got started for our server to come around, but after that, service picked up and our server checked on us several times throughout the meal. They were also out of 3 dishes (2 appetizers and one of the mains), which actually helped us make up their minds. Here's what we had this time around: - Bread and butter service: There was a white roll, brown roll, and sesame cracker-type thing for each of us. The brown roll was my favorite because it was slightly sweet. - Lobster bisque: Buttery but not overly buttery, generous amount of lobster pieces in there (yum) - Bronzed salmon and shrimp: This came with salmon, two pieces of shrimp, and rice. I'm not sure what all was in the rice to flavor it, but it was delicious! rice was delicious! Shrimp is always good. The salmon didn't come with any sauce, so it just tasted like, well, salmon. - Spiced ahi: I was pregnant this go-around, so I couldn't try this, but I remember loving the sauce last time we were at the restaurant and it being my favorite dish of the night - Mini lava cake: Our cakes were cooked all the way through, so there wasn't really any lava. Maybe this is just harder to achieve when you order the mini version. Also, Chart House is a part of Landry's. If you go to the Landry's chain of restaurants often, it is definitely worth getting their membership card. I believe it is $25 to join but you get a $25 gift card for joining, plus $25 gift cards on your birthday and earn points when you dine there (that eventually give you a gift card). Came here for my birthday on our recent trip to San Antonio. Service and Ambiance were both excellent, however the food was not. I ordered the Prime Rib medium rare and it came out pretty close to well done. It was tough, dry and barely edible. It was pretty late (9:00) by the time we received our entrees. That combined with the fact that we waited close to 30 minutes to get those entrees, we didn't bother with sending it back. My gfs Max Nut Mahi was over cooked as well. Overall for a $200+ dinner the food should have been better, but I guess your paying more for the view then you are the food here. I would definitely recommend coming here for some drinks and maybe some apps, but I would skip the entrees. read more

Chart House is located at the top of the Tower of the Americas. The 360° views of San Antonio are spectacular. We were here for the celebration of our 32nd wedding anniversary. The food is pretty good. For an appetizer, we split the shrimp stack. We also had a lobster and shrimp carbonara and a 7 ounce filet. All three dishes were very good. The staff is very attentive. Coincidentally, it was our waitress' first day on the job (post- training). Her name was Julyssa. I was honestly amazed on what a great job she did considering it was her first day. I simply asked how long she had worked there because she was doing such a great job. I was shocked when I found out it was her first day solo. She is a great find for the Landry's organization. They should hang on to her. It is recommended that you make reservations a few days in advance to get the time that you want. We made ours 24 hours prior and did not get a time that we wanted but at least we were able to get one. If you know well in advance that you want to go here, make your reservation early for the best selection of times. You must pay for parking in the Tower of Americas parking lot. Bottom line - I have found many Landry's restaurants to be hit or miss. This one was definitely a hit. The food was really good and the waitstaff was excellent. The views are spectacular.
