Please read the 1 star reviews BEFORE using this business - they echo my current experience. A friend just delivered their first child and we wanted to send flowers for the celebration. I went online and placed an order hoping for next day delivery. When date selection came up, Sunday was the first available date, okay that works I thought. Sunday comes and no flowers delivered. I was in Vegas so decided to deal with it on Monday. Monday morning I called the shop after 9:00 and received an answering machine. I left a message with my inquiry and requested a call back. 2 hours later after no call, I called again - same routine, answering machine, left message asking again for a call. Around 5:00 Monday, I received an email indicating flowers were delivered. I checked with my friend who had a message saying flowers were delivered but she was at the hospital. Later confirmed no flowers were at her house! Tuesday morning I called the shop again but reached the owner this time. I explained why I was calling, that I was disappointed that delivery didn't occur on Sunday, that received no notification that it wouldn't happen til Monday, that I left two messages on Monday with no contact and that flowers STILL HAVE NOT BEEN DELIVERED! He then listed the excuses: - his web service showed Sunday delivery in error (prior Sunday was Mothers Day) - he was out of town on Friday and couldn't contact me when he KNEW delivery wouldn't happen on Sunday - he couldn't call back on Monday because he was too busy with orders - he delivered the flowers himself, no answer at house so he left flowers at the door (in this heat??) He made no apology, no offer to do anything else (refund, deliver new arrangement), it was clear my satisfaction was not his problem, he was done! He was so adamant about delivery I said I'd check one more time, but there was nothing. Yesterday I called ONE LAST TIME and received answering machine again (how does he stay in business???) I left a message confirming there was no delivery and that I either wanted a refund or I would dispute the charge with my credit card company - this is where I stand now! As other one stars state, this guy is a jerk, unprofessional and has no commitment to his customers. read more

I recommend Char's Flower Shoppe for funeral cross arrangements and custom requests. I purchased 'peaceful crossover' in dark purple. The flowers are beautiful and they were able to include a custom request for my favorite flower, lisianthus. The color is perfect. They were sure to call me and clear up any questions about delivery. The cross is still looking quite beautiful 7 days later to my surprise and the fragrance of stock is lovely. I've never purchased a professional arrangement so the price was a little hard for me to accept, but it was worth it for my late grandmother-in-law's funeral. She would have been so flattered. I chose the standard size but would go ahead and get a larger version if I had the money since it's not that much more. Char's is one of those. Neil does a great job and is great to chat with as well if you see him around town. He too supports local businesses. What a major JERK this Neil... I called inquiring of arrangements for a funeral. After a brief conversation, he gave me a quote of around $1,000. I told him that I'll confirm with him the next day if I would order with him, which was a weekday. I called him that following day before 10am and left him a voice message. I called him again another 5-6 times until after 2pm with no answer. Since there was no one to speak with during business hours I got nervous and ordered from another place. Neil called me later that afternoon. I took the time to answer and explain to him that I had to choose someone else because I did not want to stress more in case there were issues on the day of the funeral and I cannot get hold of him or at least get the status of the delivery. He's reply was that he was surprised of my decision and raising his voice told me that I should be understanding that he had to take the day off or had to do something.... As I was mourning my loss, I did not have to get a earful from this obvious one man show flower shop. Since he has no character or business skills how can I trust his work or integrity? Neil was our saving grace. I had contacted him 2 days before my Grandmother's Funeral. I have never ordered from a florist before, my family just wanted to go to Costco because it was 'easy'. Being a small business owner myself, I wanted to support a local business. Char's was the first and only Florist I had called. Neil gave me all kinds of info over the phone and I said I would get back to him that day. My mom and I ended up going into the shop because she didn't understand how it would work a day and a half in advance. Neil had blocked out his whole day the next day to complete our (very large) order AND have them delivered to us. Amazing. The woman who delivered all of the flowers did 4 trips back and forth from Martinez to Pinole. The Flowers were absolutely stunning. My Grandmother would have been so thrilled! It's so hard to find businesses that simply keep their word, that's all I ask from anyone... just do what you say you will do. That's what I got from Char's... I needed someone on the spot to put a nice piece together and have it delivered within 3 hours 2 city's over and many people said they need more notice, or appointments are made these these types of things. But Char's gave me the best answer ever, I explained everything I needed, the money I wanted to spend and my time frame... and he simply said "no problem". I went here one morning after finding out that my ex father in law had passed away. I wanted to get something beautiful for my ex mother in law to express my condolences. I didn't really know what I wanted, except I wanted it to be predominately white flowers with some lavender and greenery. She asked me if I preferred the bouquet to be in a vase or basket (I chose basket), and what my pice range was ($40). She said she would make a basket with my request and in my price range. She did MAGIC. I didn't know what to expect when I came back to it pick up, but I was stunned by how beautiful the bouquet was. It was perfect. I live in Brentwood,CA and was looking for a flower shop to deliver flowers to a memorial service that I am unable to attend to in Martinez. I went to yelp to search for flower shops in the Martinez area, I found one and since I live locally,my family and I drove to downtown Martinez on a beautiful Saturday. When we got there, the flower shop was closed for that weekend. So we walked around and I found Char's flower shop. i went in and a lady greeted us and told her what I need. She said Char was at a memorial service and will be back. she took my info and phone # and she will have her call me. My family and I went for lunch and went Antique shopping (Martinez has lots of neat Antique stores). i received a call from Char and went to meet her. What a very sweet lady! I told her what i need and that the flowers will have to be delivered. She talked to me about the different flowers she will do for the arrangements and said that it will be beautiful and it will be delivered. I paid her the fee and commented how i liked her shop with so many neat knick knacks for sale and that it is not just a flower shop. we said our thank you and went our merry way. The memorial service was on a Monday afternoon and although i didn't see the finished flower arrangement that I ordered from Char, I got feedbacks by mouth and email that it was the most beautiful flower arrangements at the service and that it was placed right at the front where everyone can see it. I received a heartfelt thank you from the family of the deceased. Thank you Char for the job well done! You have exceeded my expectations. I have lived in Martinez for a couple of years but knew nothing of this quaint little shop. My youngest son was getting ready for his first homecoming in Pleasanton and needed a corsage for his date at the last minute. I didn't find out until the end of the day and had been told I was too late by two other local shops. Char was a HUGE life saver and offered to put something together for me right away. She was aware of how important this was to me and called me back to say "Okay Mama, it's ready". She was equally delightful in person and her tiny, yet plentiful shop was just as sweet.
