First time customer, had a great experience. Recently I needed a mulch delivery to help finish a backyard project and I tried Ecomulch for the first time. Website was clear and easy to use. I had my order placed and delivered in just a couple days. The feedback to me after ordering was a somewhat confusing. I did not get an email confirmation for example, but I was contacted quickly (after about a day) confirming the order details and time. I think it just needed a person to process it vs a totally automated experience. Delivery was good, I just had it dumped on the driveway, and the driver double checked the order before unloading. We used them for our mulch needs at the front of our property and also had them spread it. They were amazing. They spread the mulch over prior mulch and put it on over a new area. This update is for the Organic Blend soil that is sold for $75/yard. While the soil drains well, it actually drains too well. It is mostly sand with a blend of mulch/bark in it. The soil has a hardly any ability to retain water, resulting in plants wilting unless it is watered daily. This lack of "organic material" also has resulted in the most pathetic plants that I have grown in my life. By July zucchini plants are huge and producing more fruit than you can give away. However, do to the lack of nutrients and especially nitrogen, they are tiny producing hardly any fruit. there is hardly any nutrients in it at all. Just a reminder, that I have been using this soil for just a few months now. It should not be depleted. I am not new to gardening. I have added additional nutrients to the soil, but they seem to wash right through. The only way to make this soil work is to add significant amounts of compost, however they advertise that they have done this. Don't buy this soil blend with planning on blending in a significant amount of manure/compost. What did I learn today? In the words of Nacho Libre, "... it was a lie Stephen! These guys were great from start to finish! Called got pricing. Arrived a few days later to check out the colors in-person and pickup what we needed. The process of selecting, paying, & loading up my truck was mostly seamless. The only hiccup being that their WiFi was sooooo slowwww, like almost no signal at all, so my payment was taking FOReverrrr to go through. Me & Phil chatted while waiting for it, but after awhile, I ended up just offering the hotspot from my cell phone & yaayyy, Verizon saved the day. Payment went through fine. He even sprayed down the mulch so it wouldn't blow out of my truck so much. This is a great place to go if you're adding mulch and you have pets. If you get the natural mulch there's no chemicals that will hurt your pets feet. Keep in mind you need a real truck to pick up your supplies because the minimum load is one yard. Last time I was there with my old work truck the people in front of me had one of those short bed cute trucks and material spilled out when they tried to load it with the tractor. read more

I ordered top soil and compost. The topsoil had a great deal of wood shavings in it. It now looks like mulch not soil. I complained and got another half yard, which had a lot of pea sized lava rock. The compost has shards of glass in it. read more

I was in need of soil (or so I thought) for my gigantic back yard in Livermore. Not knowing how much I would need I called Ecomulch based on some nice YELP reviews. There is a place in Livermore but they didn't get very good reviews, horrific to be exact. When I called Ecomulch they were very patient and wanted me to measure of course. When I called back I spoke with two of the nicest, most helpful guys who listened to me about the hard clay I have now, my intermittent sprinkler issues and the all day sun exposure. So many good recommendations on how to get my flower beds to grow again. As well as when and how to water. We probably talked on the phone for about 30 minutes. Great customer service. I am so glad I got my compost from them. When the 8 yards were delivered, the gentleman did his best to get every last piece on the tarps I had. All in all, this was a terrific experience. Edit - I have been contacted by the owner of the company since my earlier review. She has offered to refund my money and deliver the product for free. Seems almost too good to be true. If the product turns out to be as good as Heather's customer service then it may swing from being my least favorite company to my most favorite in less than a day..... Absolutely the worst customer service from Phil. I ordered nearly $1000 worth of mulch and was told that it would arrive Monday morning. I left my cell number so that the driver could call when he was on his way. I took a days vacation on Monday and at 11:20am Monday morning I called as I had not heard anything. Phil answered and told me that a machine was broken and they had nothing to deliver. No apology or anything. I asked why he hadn't called over the weekend or even that morning and he said that I didn't leave my number as I said I would be in. I said that was not true and then when he looked he admitted the number was there, he clearly just didn't bother looking and had no intention of trying to contact me. Then to add insult to injury when I told him I wanted to cancel he made a big issue out of me giving him my phone number......that was the source of my annoyance the entire time....he had my number yet he still made me read it out to him again. Absolute joke. If the owner of the company is reading this I would be interested in speaking with you about this situation. If I had simply been called in the morning or dealt with more professionally I would not have cancelled this order and taken my business elsewhere. read more

We found Ecomulch, a family owned business related to Hamilton Tree Service, after a horrible experience with another green waste recycler. Ecomulch has superior customer service. They have tight controls on the sources of materials that they process and can arrange next day deliveries. The mulch products that we have used from them are uniform and smell great. Oh, and products are uniform from month to month, not just within each individual delivery. Prices are better than most every other amendment supplier and availability is far more reliable than any "free" mulch supplier we've chased around. Plus, we have had the pleasure of working with Bill Ridings (CalUrban Lumber) because Heather (Hamilton Tree/ EcoMulch) recommended him. EcoMulch has coupons available through the EBMUD. They have good quality mulch at good prices. We had a little snafu with the mulch being placed on the wrong side of the driveway, blocking us in. They ended up waiving our delivery charges in reparation. I would use them again, but I would park the cars in the street before they came just in case. :-) read more
