My mother-in-law, who is a huge plant person, had a lot of fun at this place. There were endless things to look at, and she really enjoyed walking around and taking her time looking through all the different plants. She especially liked seeing so many varieties that she typically doesn't see or find in the Midwest where she lives. In the end, we ended up picking up a cute pot and a few plants to bring home. I have been blindly and happily buying from Sloat and whatever it was called before Sloat for years and years. I happen to go to IKEA yesterday and while walking out saw a snake plant for $20 bucks. We passed since we were planning on going to Sloat today to check out some more humming bird plants and a Giant Bird of paradise. I was amazed by the difference in prices. Snake plant- IKEA $20 Snake plant- WholeFoods $20 Snake plant with decorative pot- HomeDepot $25 Snake plant- Sloat $99 Giant Bird of Paradise-Home Depot $35 Giant Bird of Paradise- Sloat $200 Now if there is a little increase in profit margin to support a local place instead driving to Home Depot .. I'm okay. But my Devil of a company ...what is this thievery. I will have to say that after more than 10 years going to this place... I will not be back. This Sloat center is usually pretty stocked with the current trends right up front. I stopped by right before closing to check out their wreaths. I've been to a different nursery (but farther away) and saw the same ones at cheaper prices. I've seen Hoyas here before but never anything I want, and this Sloat tends to price things higher than the others in Pleasant Hill and Martinez. But it's usually pretty clean and orderly in here, so that's nice. Usually good stock on planters too! read more

Sloat is our favorite local nursery to go to whenever we want to freshen up our yard. There is a large selection and the staff is very friendly. Here is my breakdown: Plant Selection and Merchandise: 5/5 There are so many plants to look and a a large variety to choose from. They have all sorts of flowering plants, trees, herbs, basket arrangements, all sorts of soil/fertilizer and much more. It's also a great place to look around and get some inspiration. Price: 4/5 I think the price is good for the quality of the plants. They are pretty reasonable. The ground cover plants we got were $7.99 and they have these beautiful basket arrangements for only $20. Customer Service: 5/5 Every time I have been here the customer service is always so good. The staff is very knowledgable of the plants and when/how to plant them, how often to water them, etc. Today, we received phenomenal service. We went in looking for some colorful seasonal plants for a pot on our front porch. Gary went above and beyond. He showed us the different pot arrangements and gave us some tips about how we can pot them for the best effect. We loved another little flower plant that we wanted in the pot and Gary just added it to our flower basket while giving us tips on how to do it along the way! When went to pay for the basket of flowers and the additional flower plant that was added to the arrangement, the cashier wouldn't not charge me for the plant that was added! The great customer service here is one of the reasons we are long term customers! Store: 5/5 The store has a nice little indoor area with tools, fertilizer, etc. It also has a green house area with herbs, pots and even some cute pet turtles! There is a large shaded area outside with all the plants that like shade and a good size full sun area. There is also a large area outside that has all the soils, mulch and large pots. I love shopping at Sloat. Especially this location! The team is very knowledgeable, friendly and not just trying to make sales. The plant selection is great and I love that there is a large selection of native plants. The pottery and containers are also well stocked. I like to pop in regularly just to shop or dream. :) Prices are the same as other locations, but there are more discount opportunities throughout the year. Currently just bought beautiful healthy Mums for less than the ones at the big box hardware store. While it is definitely not the old Navelet's, Sloat is a decent nursery. They have a good selection of plants, shrubs, and trees. If you catch them at the right moment, they have a few very knowledgeable employees who are willing to help you and answer questions. That's where they differ from Navelet's. With Navelet's, every employee was knowledgeable. I have asked several Sloat employees questions over the years, and it was apparent they were hired because of their unique skill at watering plants and that they knew nothing about horticulture! While I never noticed it before (because I never used to ask), Sloat does not offer a discount to veterans or senior citizens, as virtually every other competitor does. OSH, Home Depot, and Lowes even have unique parking stalls in front for veterans (not really necessary, but a nice touch). On past visits to Sloat, the clerk has told me they don't have a discount policy, but the clerk has always given me a discount anyway as a thank you for my service, so I know it's possible. When I went in this time, the clerk couldn't be bothered. She flatly said, "We don't have discounts for anyone." It's only 5% or 10% people! That doesn't even cover the tax, but it says much about the corporation! Is the corporation really that cheap? From this point forward, I will only do business with companies that value veterans, and there are plenty of them. This will be my last trip to Sloat. read more

This store continues to be one of my favorite places. They have everything you could ever want in a nursery; unique gifts, quality product, friendly and helpful staff, a plant for every climate, and they ALWAYS answer the phone. When they do answer, they're knowledgeable, helpful, and get this, pleasant! It's a wonderful experience. I found this great pot that would have been perfect in front of our house, but they only had one, and I needed two. When I asked if they had any more on the floor, they checked, but unfortunately, they didn't. Instead, they called two other stores in the Danville, San Ramon area, and found they both had the pots we were looking for. They asked to hold them for us while we made our way over there. A couple of days later, I discovered I needed a third pot and called the Concord store to see if they still had it. This wonderful man by the name of Dustin confirmed they still had it and would hold it for me to pick up the following day. You don't get that kind of service anywhere you go, but at Sloats, it's their superpower. read more

I've visited most of the gardens & nurseries all over the Bay Area from San Jose-Cupertino, Milpitas, half moon bay, several in East bay and all the way to Manteca to find rare and good tropical plants. This garden center is nice but I am surprised with their price. Not expecting the 4"pot tineki (for 2 trees) for $15 plus tax? Wow! To compare the price. I Can get (4 tree/pot)rubber tree in a pot for under $15 In Home Depot, orchard and Lowe's. Maybe because of law of market supply and demand. Also, wish they have the clearance rack for plants where you can find in Lowe's or Home Depot.half off the price. But it's okay, good to see what was here. read more

Often when I have driven by the Sloat Garden Center on Kirker Pass Road, the parking lot was nearly empty. I have wondered how they stay in business. So I was pleased when I stopped by today to find many cars in the parking lot and the store quite busy. While I did not visit the entire center, from what I saw they carry a wide variety of plants and gift items. I was looking for houseplants in particular. They had an excellent selection. For the most part the plants appeared healthy. However, I was a bit surprised at the price on a couple of rather tired looking mother-in-law tongues. In fact, I was not prepared for the prices at all. A rather sparse philodendron in a 4-inch pot was $19.99. More than I was willing to pay. I only glanced briefly at the orchids. They were on the pricey side, too. As I type this, I am looking at four orchids in full bloom (three in their second bloom) from Trader Joe's. I am sticking with Trader Joe's for orchids ... and will keep searching for houseplants. read more

What a beautiful store! We went on a very hot day and noticed a difference in the heat level of outside areas covered with some kind of shade cloth. There were gorgeous plants of all kinds and other whimsical decoration for your yard. Inside there was a bird section and colorful pottery among many other things. We found the fountain pumps, but alas they were not solar so we didn't get anything today. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. This is a great store with all kind of surprises. read more

What impressed me the most is the knowledge they bring to you as you being the customer knowing what plants are needed and where they grow . Not just reading the label . This was my first time visiting this nursery as I needed some assistance with my fall winter garden since my spring summer garden was a bust and I have a brown finger not a green thumb. It wasn't too busy which was great walking in plants were everywhere of course but I was drawn to the seed section where they have an abundance of seeds from flowers to vegetables. Needing some actual assistance I found Greg to be very knowledgeable on gardening. He took me back to the patio which held an array of plants. I informed him of what I need with all of my questions and I had a lot, but he had all of the answers and suggestions. He left me to select what I needed and at the end confirmed what I had was a good choice. Wow! What a difference a few miles makes. Saturday I went to the Sloat Garden Center in Pleasant Hill and vowed I would never go back. Luckily my daughter talked me into visiting the Sloat's Garden Center at 1555 Kirker Pass Rd, Concord, CA 94521. It was like I had walked into a different company. The staff were helpful, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable. They took the time to assist with questions and walk customers to where products are located. The shop also had an amazing selection of plants, potting ware and absolutely anything you could ever want for your yard, garden or indoor plants. I will happily drive the extra distance to visit this Sloat's. Steven was so amazingly helpful, informative, polite, and friendly. Honestly, he should be given a raise and promoted to train all Sloat's customer service team! read more

Disappointed in their vegetables small and expensive.probably started a couple weeks ago.

Wow - so glad I connected with Sloat. They ran a promotion for about $150 for a landscape consultation. Fast forward a couple of months and I have a transformed yard with scores of gorgeous flowers, shrubs and trees. I have also learned a tremendous amount about my yard and its care. Taro is an amazing designer and consultant. He's a great listener and highly creative. In addition referrals/resources were available for hardscape, mulch and installation. Also wonderful is their lifetime plant guarantee - even though the plants are a bit pricier than some other places, they'll replace them if I kill them - which I sometimes do! I really needed their expertise, products and services. Maybe you do too. read more

This review is for the Corona shovel and not the nursery. I have not been able to make it there to see if they will replace it without my receipt. 1st use of Corona shovel 2nd strike into hole. I was surprised to see it shatter like glass. My soil is not that hard. Finished job with 23 year old shovel no problem. I am relatively new to plants and trees but I knew I was interested in Crepe Myrtles. Emily was kind enough to walk me over to the trees and answer many of my questions. I have seen some of the comments from other customers and although Sloat may not be the least expensive, their service is amazing and would rather pay a bit more and not buy the wrong food or fertilizer for my plant. Every time I'm at Home Depot, there is either no one around or no one who knows anything about the plants they sell. I will be coming back to Sloat for sure. read more

This place is off a major street and has their own parking lot. It's really hot inside but that's normal because there's plants. It's surprisingly really big inside. They have a large variety of everything in there. Also a ton of pottery that is very nice. A lot of vegetables plants. Definitely worth stopping by since they specialize in gardening. read more

Ingrid greeted me only moments after entering Sloat yesterday and she must have seen the lost look on my fave, because she immediately asked what she could help me with. It was my first time in there, and I'm not much of a gardener, and I didn't even really know what I needed. I just knew I had black bugs on one plant and white spots on the leaves of another. She walked me over to the plant sprays and showed me a few different ones and went over the differences with me. It was an easy decision to buy a bee-safe three-in-one, so I went to check-out with my little spray bottle, which is where the friendly employee Lance handled the final steps of my purchase. Super nice staff at this store. Always nice to be in and out of a place in just a few minutes, especially when it's a beautiful day outside and you have plants at home that need your help. read more

Visited this location on a whim on 5/30/20 to check out their indoor plant section. They had a wide variety of plants I wanted to purchase, but I ended up just buying a Monstera for now. From what I can tell, they take good care of the indoor plants because many were presentable and didn't look like any were dry/dying, if that makes any sense. My boyfriend bought a fern and was also looking for strawberries but unfortunately they didn't have any at the time. Plants are pricey but they take good care of them so I say it's worth buying if the plant looks healthy. I will definitely come back and stay longer when I get the chance. Staff: the woman cashier on sunday was very unhelpful and rude. When I was looking for a shopping cart she just rolled her eyes and turned away without helping me locate the carts. When it was time to pay I saw that she greeted and chatted with a caucasian woman before me and when it was my time to pay there was just disdain and she generally ignored me. First time in Sloat Garden center. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by friendly employees. The store has a great selection of indoor plants, a bit pricey for me. I was bummed out I was only able to buy a few big indoor plants on my budget. The employees were very helpful too with answering my questions. This seems like the exact same story that played out again and I decided to head over to Sloat Garden Center. They were rockstars today! They had staff everywhere actually helping guests. I am somewhat of a risk taker for plants, as I love tropical but live in concord where it is a challenge to maintain that look. he will always give me the facts of the plant and then knowing I am going to try, give me ideas on how to succeed the challenge. I was a loyal customer back before this store became Sloat. I was not excited about the buy out at first, but after they settled in Sloat has turned out to be a great store that I still love. The store is very well kept. Always well stocked and the plants well kept and healthy. The staff is friendly and pretty knowledgeable (at least you can usually find a few who know the answer to your questions). The plant varieties are great. I typically go for just edibles, and they always have a much larger selection that what I can find at Lowe's or home Depot. I feel like the prices are fair as well. They also have fantastic soil amendments. I do not use animal manure to grow my fruits and veggies and finding an all plant based compost is tough. Sloat has a fabulous compost. They also have a great worm castings amendment as well as other synthetic fertilizers and nutrients. I also finally found a bag of top soil there with no animal manure. Wish they had a potting soil like miracle grow that was manure free, but I will just use the top soil and add what I need. Staff is also always very helpful to load bags onto my cart and then into my truck. Happy this place is close to home read more

Honestly I really enjoyed coming to this garden center. Although I came today and there was still a minute left but the doors were locked they were counting out their cash registers and mouthed to me that they were closed. Clearly they closed early and good customer service says you don't lock the doors until 630 or closing time. My kids are crying because we weren't able to buy ladybugs . I know it was a last minute..... but there was still a minute.. those doors should've been open. read more
