Extremely satisfied with the lipia we ordered. The plants came as expected but had a hard time getting established. They stood by their product and made sure we had the result we were expecting. Placed my order in December 2024 for Lippia and was told it went dormant and it would ship in the spring. I waited. Was told it wasn't ready and to wait again. Got another email to wait because it didn't pass inspection. Requested a refund and they just didn't respond. Requested a refund over and over again. George gave us a quote in August for a 700 sq. ft. lawn installation. Work was supposed to be done right before Thanksgiving and take three days. Job was stretched out to three weeks. I informed George that the yard had really bad weeds primarily of oxalis and that we didn't want to use Round-up because of the fruit trees already planted and because we have a puppy. He reassured me that everything would be great and it would look beautiful. However, no alternative method was offered and 10 days after the installation I began picking out weeds from the lawn. I contacted George two weeks after installation to let him know that the weeds were really bad and could he do something about it. He again reassured me that he was going to contact the sod company he purchased from and wasn't "abandoning the job". Three weeks after that conversation, he finally came out to take a look at the lawn and do some weeding. His idea of weeding was cutting some of the oxalis off at the surface. He also kept referring to the oxalis as clover, not the same thing at all. For anyone who knows oxalis, it has a long taproot and a bulb at the end of it. Cutting it off at the surface does little to nothing in stopping it from returning. Someone in the lawn business should know his weeds, or at least do some research when a client tells him what types of weeds are in the yard. Things George did well: Excellent job grading the yard and nice work installing steel barriers to define garden bed areas. Things George did poorly: Did not communicate well or educate client on alternatives to toxic herbicides. He also did nothing differently from normal installation other than not spray Round-up. As a result, an extremely expensive sod, kurapia is now covered in weeds. read more

Beware, their delivery process is frustrating and downright ridiculous. We ordered sod for our 500 square foot yard to be delivered to our house, but we weren't told until after we ordered that the delivery person would not come onto our property (not even into the driveway) unless we were standing outside at the moment they arrived. We were given a 2 hour window for the delivery, and the delivery guy arrived 45 minutes early. They didn't even attempt to call us to say they'd be early, and he dropped off the sod in the street behind a hedge so I couldn't see him arrive. It seemed like he was trying not to be seen on purpose so he wouldn't have to take the extra few minutes to bring the sod onto our actual property. When we called to complain they refused to come back. This meant my husband had to carry the sod twice as far to get it to our backyard, which made the project much more difficult. They did give us a very minor discount (less than 5%) for the inconvenience, but only after we called several times. Bottom line, their communication is poor and I suggest they rethink their strange delivery policy. Or at the very least, pick up the phone and call your customer if you're going to arrive 45 minutes early. read more

I can't believe how great our backyard looks! I posted a bunch of before and after photos. George and Stacey and their crew were some of the nicest people we've done business with. Every time I spoke with George on site he was happy, had a positive attitude, and seemed genuinely excited about our project. I know these guys are crazy busy (which may explain some of the reviews saying they never got back to them). But they work at least 6 days a week and very long hours. Just as an example of how long their days are they started at 6:15am (and we're about an hour away from their headquarters) on the final day of install. Our project was a pretty big project (approx 3000 sq feet) and took 2 weeks to complete. Our yard was a disaster. It required something like 35 tons of dirt to be brought in to level it out. We needed the entire area cleaned out (it was crab grass and weeds), dirt fill brought in, irrigation system installed, huge raised redwood planter built and filled with like 10 tons of dirt, and then sod installed - we chose bluegrass. I'm probably missing some details here, too. We spent a good amount of money on this project but we couldn't be happier. Landscaping is expensive as it is very labor intensive but these guys earned it. With Sod & Seed if you look at the details of their quote their labor is very reasonably priced considering how much time they spend at your property. If they quote your job please take the time to look at material cost vs. labor. As of today (7/29/17) George came back to do the final clean up and mentioned to me that they were booked up for the next few months. This is normal. We tried to get someone in for a patio install and someone else for a deck install (in addition to what Sod & Seed did) and I can't find a company that isn't booked out until 2018. So, be patient. The quality of work Sod & Seed provides is worth the wait! Don't let your random Mow & Blow gardener do this install for you, you will regret it. OH, and also you can pay by credit card (gotta get those points/cash back!). Most other places I spoke to only accepted checks as payment. read more

We had a great experience with Sod and Seed. Similar to some other folks, getting through to the office and getting things scheduled was a bit of a challenge, but for us it was definitely worth the extra effort and extra phone calls. Once George, the owner, came out to give us a quote, it was clear George knows what he's talking about and took the installation very seriously. We had over 700 sq. ft. of dirt prepped and then sod installed by Sod and Seed. While other companies quoted a day for the job, George said it would take up to a week. And he was right! He came every day, usually staying past 5PM, working slowly and thoughtfully to prep the area. We got updates throughout the process and felt highly involved and aware of what was happening and why. George also did lots of small, considerate things, like fixing a leak in some old drip irrigation and using some extra sod square to patch up areas in a different part of our yard. The final product looks amazing and we highly recommend Sod and Seed. read more

It's clear he is a business owner and he takes pride in communicating promptly and making sure the project is done right. George and his crew are incredible! So much so that I'm asking him to work on the backyard too! Sod and Seed took a total mess and turned it into a front yard that we can truly enjoy. What my project consisted of: -Cleanup and de-weeding of yard and 2nd tier -Removal of several small trees -Removal of about 10 large stones (25-50lb each) and bricks -Rototill the dirt -Install sprinkler system (trenching done by hand so as not to hit any possible drain lines etc) -Install sod -Setup timers -Cleanup This project took about a week and trust me when I say that they didn't skimp or cut corners. These guys were very prompt each day, and incredibly polite.They cleaned up after themselves each day and even more so when they finished. Above all, their pricing was competitive and reasonable. Plus, their hard work didn't go unnoticed, several of our neighbors stopped by to get their information for estimates of their projects. So I started googling local suppliers, and after speaking with a number of suppliers in our area was truly impressed with Sod and Seed's customer service and approach. Sara and Gabby were rock stars and offered great options to obtain the 'meadow' look, within our budget. They maintained competitive pricing, and were always responsive. The only bummer was we live in Oakland and ended up having to pay for delivery even though it should have been free due to our small street format, which really isn't in our control. We're in the process of replacing the small sod lawn in our Oakland backyard, and my husband solicited 4 estimates. George of Sod and Seed came out promptly and offered us great advice on the fungus problem that necessitated the replacement as well as steps we can take to stop the marauding raccoons from oh-so-carefully rolling up the new sod (when it arrives) to look for grubs. I learned so much about native grasses and drought tolerance working with Sod and Seed. The estimate was very comprehensive and gave us various options to consider for our space and budget. We decided to go with Kurapia due to it's low water needs and durability. We also needed several inches of topsoil replaced. We had them come out to give us a quote for our backyard. Our irrigation system has not worked in the backyard since we bought our house. While he was here taking measurements of our backyard for the sod, he was also looking at the valves for the irrigation system. He told us to expect a quote in a few days. An hour after he left or house we noticed the sprinklers on the front lawn were left on. Before he was here they were working on the timer just fine. My husband went to the back to try to figure out how to turn them off. We do not know how to work the irrigation system. He was able to turn them off, but now they do not work with the timer. I called right away to have him come back out to put it back to the way it was before he touched it. I called them 3 times and left 3 voice mails. When I did not get a response, my husband called them twice. The second time he called he finally got an answer. He was told that someone would call him back. No one called. Now a week and a half later, now that my front lawn is dying, I decided to give them a call one more time. Someone actually answered and she told me that they can't come back to fix it because they aren't licensed to do it. What?! So he had no problem touching the system when he was here, but refuses to come back to put it back the way it was before he touched it?! I'm so upset with this company because all they did for me was kill my front lawn, and all I wanted them to do was look at the back. Do not use this company! You will never be able to get ahold of them and they will never call you back. read more
