I ordered over 500 sqft of Sod. The ordering process was pretty easy and the person who took my order was knowledgeable and friendly. I was happy with the company up until it was time for the delivery. There was no option to pick up the sod on my own at my convenience. Then the delivery was scheduled between 6am and 8am on a Saturday morning which was not ideal for my project to begin with but what can you do? To make matters worse, the sod was delivered just after 4am (nearly 2 hours before the delivery window) which woke up probably half the neighborhood including me. I got up to direct the delivery person where to place the sod and noticed the delivery person had already left and made no attempt to make contact with me before dropping the pallet off on the street (public property). Very disappointing! read more

Not only did Kim answer at 10pm, when I thought I was just going to leave a message, she took my order and made an appointment to meet the next day. I could either pay the credit card fee or pay cash to avoid the card fee. The grass is greener than other ones I've seen. This is the Elite Plus, great quality! read more

I just called The Sod Shop to get an idea of the costs and process for installing a lawn. They were incredibly patient and knowledgable about different grass varieties, soil consideration, drought tolerance, and installation. It was really a lot more than I could have expected. The customer service was incredible and if we end up getting sod, this is definitely the place we'll go! read more

I recently purchased 750 sq. feet of sod from the Sod Shop. I had them install it after I did all the necessary prep work (rototilling in topsoil, leveling, etc. ). Kim took the time to go over with me what I had to do and how to do it. She was so helpful and patient with all my questions. She was very polite and friendly. The sod was fresh and they did an excellent job installing it. I would very highly recommend The Sod Shop to anyone wanting to install sod. I was very impressed with their professionalism and knowledge. read more

I knew very little about laying new sod down but after speaking with Kim i felt better. Kim explained to me about the different types of sod. I wanted sod thats good for my dogs. Kim recommended the 90/10 Tall Fescue. She also told me to get more sod than what i measured because for cutting purposes, piece patches not recommended. Kim is very understanding and helpful Overall my experience with the sod shop was very good, the 2 hour delivery window from 8am-10am went very smooth the truck delivered @ 8:30 am. I searched around the area and The Sod Shop appears to have great prices so we decided to go check out samples. We arrived after the official business hour, but the woman on the phone helped us anyway, explaining the differences between their samples. We finally decided on their bestseller type. it also happens to be the cheapest likely due to high volume. The yard wasn't ready so we said we'd call back next week. Placing order took a mere 5 minutes call. Then I was notified of the 2 hours delivery window the day before. The delivery was on time and the sods all looked freshly cut and just like the sample. read more

Great quality, great service, quick turn around. Awesome pricing. Very happy with our lawn. Highly recommend.

Several years ago I purchased a pickup truck sized load for my small front yard. I had pulled up my drought tolerant lawn, replacing it with Sod after our drought ended. With the exception of some sprinkler issues, my sod has bee great. The quality of the sod was excellent; the guidance and assistance I received selecting the sod, & loading my truck was helpful. 15 years earlier, I purchased sod (for 3 lawns) here for another home. That sod is still going strong. Highly recommend this business. read more

I bought 500 squat 500 of the sod from them and only the top 3 layers of sod was good the rest of it was crap was falling apart etc do your self a favor and get you sod from a reputable place my father who has done landscaping for 40+ years was helping me out peeping the sprinklers and the base for the sod he was not there when I put it in but took a looks at it after is was to late and said I got took I will never do anything with this outfit ever again read more

Called and they said there was a minimum delivery of 300 square feet. Decided to order the 20 additional feet to meet the minimum, and then was told it is a 500 square foot minimum to deliver to my location. Don't complain when all the big corporate stores take all of your business! read more

Don't waste your time with this company! If you are interested in working with a company who provide strong customer service- this is not the company to use. I had the "pleasure" of calling today to get a quote for our do-it-yourself sod instillation. First off, when I called the gentleman who answered the phone put me on hold before I could even say "hello" or "yes, I don't mind holding". I then proceeded to patiently wait on-hold for 10 minutes before being hung up on!!! When I called back the phone rang a few times before I was sent to voice-mail. If you are interested in great customer service, call just about any place else, this guys stink!! I ended up finding another local company who was able to answer all of my questions, offer the delivery date I needed and gave an outstanding price and delivery charge. read more

the SOD shop is great. I've did some research and check prices around other competitors and the SOD shop gave me the best price. It was an honest price that you can feel good with. Working nearby on a plumbing job and driving to the hardware store, I saw that the store was open after being closed, due to personal reasons with the owner. So I stopped by after getting my needed plumbing parts, while also going to get breakfast next door, too. I walked into a delightful lady named, Kim Fry. I asked her of the sod she had. She explained to me all the details of ordering sod ahead of time. Cost of sod. How to lay the sod. Even gave me a "How to Prep & Lay Sod," flyer. Awesome! The whole time, Kim was very helpful, cheerful, knowledgeable and high spirited. So I ordered some sod for a customer I have to lay sod in their front yard, as after a plumbing job I did for them, it needed it. The day before ETA sod pick up, I got a courtesy call from "The Sod Shop" office on delivery confirmation. Sweet! Sod was great to lay out. Yes! I looked at the rest of the customers lawn and wanted to lay even more sod out rather than what was originally planned on laying, due to the newly installed sod being better looking, than the existing grass. Geez?! I even had 2-rolls left over. I ended up giving the extra rolls I had leftover to a friend that took them without any hesitation or dismay. All in all, "The Sod Shop," provided me with Mello Fescue sod for my needed job at hand. Very welcoming and pleasing atmosphere. Very kind and professional. Kim Fry, I will return to your business, "The Sod Shop," anytime, I ever, need any sod, for my clients. Thank you so very much, for guiding me in my sod layout pathway. Kim, you rock! read more

We ordered 340 sf of sod to be delivered on the Peninsula. Some vendors wouldn't deliver to our address due to the location, but Kim went above and beyond for us for a nominal fee, which we were happy to pay. She also answered all our questions and offered advice on how to best manage the new grass. The sod arrived bright and early on the morning of the scheduled day (earlier the better to prevent dry roots) and by the end of the actual delivery window it was already laid. One week in and it looks spectacular, lush and green. I would highly recommend giving Kim at the Sod Shop a call for your sod order. read more

Good selection of sod. The prices are cheap and affordable. Delivery charge from Martinez to Fairfield did not break the bank. We were given a 2 hour window from 6-8am on a Sat., they were here by 6:02am. Nearly three weeks later our yard looks amazing and the grass is green, gorgeous and ready to be mowed. I have to subtract stars due to their inability to help me out. Although their web page says they are able to do any amount of sod for delivery, they would not deliver to my home. I have for 3 days been attempting to talk with the SOD Shop to purchase 875 sq. feet of sod. They do not answer their phone. Their recording states they are open (it is Friday mid-day). We called to order 960 sq feet of Mello Rye and the man who I spoke with was kind enough to tell me if I round the order up to a 1,000 sq ft, then I would get the $40 delivery fee waived. I ended up agreeing because it basically made sense to me to get more and pay less. I was told that I would get a call on Friday at 2:30 pm to confirm my order arrival on Saturday, and they called when promised. They also gave us a window of 6:30-8:00 am for delivery, and they showed up exactly at 6:30 am. We love the grass, it is absolutely gorgeous. And for the price, you cannot beat that. I was very thrilled about how courteous the service rep was. All promises were met. I told the guy that if every promise was met, and we were happy with the product, that I would write a good review. So here is my review. 5 stars. read more
