Popped in for my first visit at 5p on Friday evening and while there were a few diners enjoying the lovely patio, the inside of the restaurant was completely empty - kinda weird. So, I sat at the bar and struck up a conversation with the sweet bartender since it was happy hour I decided to order the Charro Street fries with yuca (instead of sweet potato). The chickpea chorizo was fantastic... Lots of flavor and a little heat. There were lots of grilled veggies inside and I had them add some avocado on top of the vegan Crema. I also ordered a house margarita, which was half off for happy hour... What a great deal! Both were superb! The plant forward menu looks amazing, and they offer quite a few meat options for the omnivores in the crowd. The decor is pleasant, and the servers were all very friendly. read more

I recently grabbed a build-your-own bowl for lunch, and it was ready in no time. I went with cilantro white rice, mesquite salmon, black beans, and street corn--absolutely delicious! The flavors were fresh and well balanced. I also picked up a Corazón Cooler to go. While it was still tasty, it seemed noticeably smaller than the one I had when dining at the restaurant. read more

We came here for the first time in February 2024 and enjoyed what I'd only call **out of this WORLD** tacos. Cauliflower pastor, chicken pastor, carne asada with grass-fed beef, mushroom mixta. I eat tacos everywhere I go in Arizona and this place had my personal favorite tacos in the entire state. Never been more satisfied! So we returned in December 2024 and I was so saddened to see a revised menu with seemingly no a la carte tacos!!! Still, there were plenty of delicious, healthy choices with lots of green and veggie side options - which you typically don't see with Mexican food and flavors, but which still went beautifully with our meals. I only wish they still had TACOS! The atmosphere was warm and inviting both times, and servers kept our drinks coming while we waited for our food. The staff in February was wonderful and on top of every little issue, whereas on this one night in December they seemed a bit harried. But hey, the holidays can do that to you. We had dinner at CharroVida to check out their new menu, and enjoyed our meal of both some old favorites and new options. We started with chips and salsa, then had Brussels and Shishitos, Yuca Street Fries, and the Pollo Al Pastor. It was all delicious! I, for one, am very enamored of the yuca fries here. They're satisfyingly crispy like thinner French fries, but have the earthy heartiness of a wedge cut potato. Topped with chickpea chorizo, peppers, and onions? That's a can't-miss combo! The Pollo Al Pastor is a huge portion of chicken, so bring your appetite! The new dinner entrees are pricier than the old menu, but the portions and quality are definitely there. read more

So long, farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, adieu. Sadly CharroVida is closing and I'm sad to see it go. The ambiance of the place is great...I love the brightness of it all and their food was healthy, colorful, bright, and light. They serve up some great vegetarian and vegan eats but have something for everyone practically. This was my second time here and I went in fully intending to order the responsible burger with their house made veggie patty...only they were out of the veggie patty. Dang it! Guess I'll never get to try it. ¡Que triste! I went with the rocket romaine salad and added the chickpea chorizo and the salad was REALLY good. I just wish they didn't charge $6 for the chickpea chorizo since they were out of my first choice item be c'est la vie. I really like their taqueria salad and I enjoy their churros and chimichanga seasonal desserts. Other items are hit or miss for me. I think their prices are also really high for the serving sizes but I got their Christmas in July gift cards and therefore it made it more worth it for me to try some stuff. The one thing that I find really bad there is the service. I think they really need to work on that. So many things about it are bad. For example, last time I was there and told them they brought my meal with the wrong side (sweet potato fries instead of yucca fries I ordered), Instead of leaving the food with me so I can start eating with my friend who also got their food and just bringing the correct side separately, they insisted to take my whole plate and my friend was pretty much done eating when I got it back. The decor is very upscale and there was a live guitarist playing near the front door which added to the ambience and is much better that's the too loud strolling mariachis that some Mexican restaurants employ. We started with a mocktail ( excellent), and the guaco-hummus dish which is highly recommended. Is comes with roasted chickpeas, watermelon radish and cucumbers, though plantain chips were mentioned on teh menu but we only got corn tortilla chips. The chopped salad is also very good, loads of toppings. I had a red chili hemp tamale and corn and green chili tamale with whole black beans and cilantro rice, very good and healthy. Hubby had the shrimp enchiladas and was disappointed that there was way too much cheese and he likes cheese. Overall I would go back but skip the enchiladas. read more

This is a nice little gem in North Tucson. I was impressed with the overall vibe and decor. This place is definitely an upscale option for Mexican food. The high ceilings and live music are a nice touch. We had a tasty lunch. Starting with the charred Brussels, this dish is flavorful, but light. I also had the house kombucha, which was mild and fruity in flavor, not too vinegary. For lunch I had the classic chile relleno, which was filled with cheese, and spicy!! I like that it was smothered in a green sauce that didn't overshadow the green chile flavors. Mom had the tortilla soup with steak. She's a huge fan of tortilla soup and felt this version was pretty bland. We ordered chips and salsa when I realized the dish I ordered wasn't going to be enough to fill my tummy. It came with two different salsas that were really good and fresh. Overall I liked the atmosphere and service. I think this would be a fun place to sit at the long bar, enjoy a cocktail and listen to music. I thought the portions were small in size considering the cost. They have a lot of vegetarian and vegan dishes. They list the allergens on the menu, which is fantastic. Service was great. Ample parking in front and back of the shopping center. We used to love coming here... the last few times we've been, sadly the service & food has gone downhill. This most recent time we waited 40 minutes for our food, during that time our server disappeared & we noticed other tables also becoming impatient. Once the food arrived we were rushed to eat as we had plans post dinner. We also miss the old menu! My first time here. Had take out, which was good. The chicken was a bit dry, but acceptable. After I tipped 20% on a takeout order the next line asked for $2 for the cooks, which I did. But, being asked to give $2 to the cooks, especially after already tipping 20% on a to go order was irritating and negatively influenced my overall experience dining here. Well, I didn't think it would, but I'm just not as thrilled as I wanna be. This place has raised prices and lowered what they offer. Happy hour used to have some really good Shareables; now they have pretty much scaled back. My girlfriend and I ordered soup and salad and got chips for the table that you now have to pay for. We had six people sitting at our table who ordered a lot of food and they bring one bowl of chips and one serving of salsa for $3.50. How about just bringing those chips and salsa when people are ordering a ton of food. I like to have salsa with my Hispanic meal. My first time here, it's a neat restaurant. Interior is clean and simple. Relaxing atmosphere, place is packed when we got here. But we were seated right away. The wait was too long for our beverage, understandable cause they're busy. Food came at least half an hour after we placed the order. But I think it was worth the wait cause food is delicious! Our server is nice, but did not check on us after she has served our food. If you're hungry and in a rush, I don't think this place is ideal. But if you just want to have a good meal and relaxing. We came here for dinner and arrived about 30 minutes before they close at 8pm. But the hostess was friendly and was able to seat us. The restaurant had a bright atmosphere with a good amount of seating inside and outside. The menu selection had a good variety of healthy food. I chose this restaurant because they offered cactus which I wanted to try. So we ordered a Vida bowl with half rice and half greens, grilled chicken, mushroom mixta, and the nopalitos (cactus) & green beans. The combination of everything tasted really good and the portion size was very filling. We also tried their prickly pear lemonade and agave mint iced tea. Even though I asked for less syrup, the lemonade still tasted quite sweet but yummy. Parking was easy since there is a parking lot. We were thankful that we were able to dine here. We came here after a rainy evening. It is a beautifully decorated restaurant with tons of space between patrons. We decided to sit by the bat in a booth, totally worth it because is very private. Our waitress was the bartender and she was amazing. We decided to try one of their sangrias (Sangria Mora) and wow it was delicious and refreshing, not too sweet nor to strong just the way I like it. Well, we had a great evening. We got to see friends who've been away which is always lovely; and after a disappointing meal, we stopped at Cheesecake Factory for a soul-rectifying if less than healthy dessert. As for this restaurant, it was a disappointment made worse by the high expectations anyone in Tucson has for the Charro brand. So, the positives. Other than the bathroom locations, this is a great architectural plan. The decor is good, but would be better if the place were clean. Speaking of those bathrooms, periodic checking on them is an essential part of having a restaurant. And, who is checking to see if the tables are clean and actually not sticky? Certainly nobody this particular evening. Now, to the wait staff. These young people are very pleasant. In fact, when we pointed out how badly one dish had been cooked, they comped it without fuss or question. However, I did not get the feeling that there was anybody with experience running the shift. Nobody was actually going over to tables to ask how their meals were. Nobody was checking on sloppiness; and sloppiness abounded; starting with of all things the drinks: overfilled glasses without ice. Slurp off a bit of the beverage and then transfer ice from your water glass? Not a good beginning. And the food. Must I remember it? Varying from insipid to over-cooked, it really was not worth the eating; and actually we ate very little of it. I seldom slam a restaurant this negatively and typically try to avoid giving negative reviews to places that have a reputation to uphold, but I think the Charro brand is actually in danger if nobody says anything. Please, clean this place and its act up. read more

Best brussel sprouts I've ever had, honestly. They also have a lot of vegan options like tofu and tempeh! There's a good variety on the menu!! Ambiance: cute and clean inside. Good vibes inside and spacious. Service: the staff was very nice and accommodating. Our server was patient and was able to make some substitutions for us as well. Overall, great staff! I was door dashing today, and I was sent to CharroVida for an order. I immediately loved the energy. A mixed crowd of younger and older people enjoying the patio , tables inside , and the bar. They had football on the TV's...and of course I love that. I especially liked the non pretentious feel...just come as you are and enjoy. There are old stoves and ovens for people to look at when you walk in. Kind of like a little antique store vibe...really cool. Then I saw it was owned by the lady who owns El Charro! I remember meeting her years ago...and she was gracious and certainly a presence. So when I was done dashing , I had to stop in. I LOVE this place. The staff are friendly. Chris helped me when I was picking up the order, and he said hi when I was there afterwards. Ok, the menu. AH- MAY-ZING! Fresh twists on Mexican, geared towards healthy lifestyles. This was my first visit for a Sonoran Restaurant Week, and though the food was fantastic, I have to say the service was lacking greatly. My husband and I went on a weekday evening. I think it was a Wednesday, and there were very few tables present. It took our server quite a while to greet us. I would say almost 20 minutes. We almost got up and left. When she finally came, she was friendly and apologized about the wait. We quickly ordered and as I said the food was great, with the exception of the horchata. It was very watery and not good. It again took awhile to get boxes/our bill. This was not a great experience for us being our fist time and when I looked at reviews while there (since I had so much time), I saw this may not be uncommon with this restaurant. Nice modern-cozy vibe with an elegant bar. Our server, Nicole, was friendly, offered suggestions and genuinely wanted us to enjoy our meal. I love that. We had the Three Sisters Taco plates and they were loaded with flavor. The meats were tender, and the ranch style beans were amazing...really loved them.
