Charron has a very good location, although getting to it is a little bit challenging if you have a low clearance vehicle (we didn't). Tasting is a bit more laid back than some places; one has a seat on their expensive deck overlooking the vineyard and the high Sonoran Desert, and the tasting consist of 5 selections chosen from their menu which were brought to tasters periodically. There's plenty of time to sit and enjoy the great views and weather. Too bad the wines don't match the venue. Some of them were quite thin, in other words they just don't have much flavor. Their white wines had plenty of acid and flavor, but their reds were indistinct and lacked body, flavor, and may have been a bit young. read more

Wow the view at this place is spectacular! Probably my favorite winery of the day! We came here last on our wine tour and I'm glad we saved it for last. We sat outside on the porch and did the wine tasting and got the meat and cheese "picnic basket". The wine tasting was a lot of fun because we all got to pick six out of their selection, which was great because some of us only like red and some of us only like white. The meat and cheese plate came with a lot (bread with olive oil and balsamic, several cheeses, peanuts, olives, salami, and a yummy little dessert, etc)! It was very tasty and a great thing to snack on while we tasting our wine! Also our server was very friendly! This is a fantastic vineyard and a great stop if you are wine tasting in Southern Arizona. Turning off the highway, it is a dirt road, so be very careful about what car you bring, and I wouldn't go during monsoon season. Any other time of year, this place is lovely! They have both an indoor and outdoor space. We sat outside on the patio, and they turned on the misters for us as well. We ordered meat and cheese baskets for our group, which were really delicious. None of us could finish everything (they're for 2, and as a group of 6, we ordered 3). The baskets had a nice variety of cheeses with breads, salami, and even a chocolate dipping sauce with cookie straws. More importantly, the wine! They had a nice selection of reds, whites, and rose, enough to please everyone in our group. I am not a huge red wine person (I'm allergic), so I was able to drink mostly white and rose. You get 6 wines for a few dollars plus a nice glass to take home. They have a recommended order for the wines. I never though those types of things mattered, but it makes a huge difference. I tried one wine of my friends and didn't like it. I realized I had selected it to try, and preferred it when I had it in the order the employee recommended. Their menu provides some great descriptions. I don't really understand the details of wines and the employees were especially helpful with making recommendations and helping us understand the flavors. I took home 2 wines, and in their little shop, they have cute wine accessories you can buy as well. We got there early in the day, so it was very busy by the time we were checking out. We tried the 6 samples for $7 and picked our favorite two as our last glasses. They have an equal menu of both dry and sweet options. Personally, I enjoyed the Montepulciano (dry) and the Santa Rita Rose (sweet). We also added the cheese and meat picnic basket ($22), which was wonderful! It was just enough after a long hike on Brown Mountain (which is about 40 minutes away). The view off the deck was so beautiful, especially during this time of year (Late April). Our hostesses were very friendly and knew a lot about their wines and how they are made. They were exceptional in describing the localities that Charron Vineyards were involved with. I like wine. 6 tastings for $8 with a souvenir wine glass... such a deal. Exit 281 is about 30 minutes outside of Tucson on the east side. A sign on the main road says Winery Open! You follow an unpaved toad for about a mile and this lovely gem greets you. A warm welcome and invitation to grab a table of your choice, then make your wine selections from the tasting menu and enjoy! We got the cheese basket... warm bread, olives,almonds, 5 cheeses, foccica crackers, chocolate dip, piroulettes oil& balsamic.... very cool presentation! Excellent service too. Found this little gem of a winery on Yelp on our way to Sonoita. So glad we braved the dirt road on the way in. Beautiful patio and delicious wines. They serve snacks and tastings are very enjoyable. $7 for 6 tastings and a souvenir glass. My favorite was the Tortolita Blanca. The patio can accommodate larger (10-15 people) groups but call ahead if you have a group! Will definitely be back! read more

The drive up to this winery was tough, roads aren't paved and my little Corolla was not liking all the bumps... When we got there - it was incredibly windy on the patio (2 other groups seated) so we went back in. Two ladies were working the tastings and the server we had was very...eccentric. Now to the wines - for just 8 bucks we tried 6 wines and I have to say, none of them were wines that we really cared for - they were just too sweet and it didn't warrant us trying a glass or buying bottle(s). Rough road for 3/4 mile to/from AZ 83 to Charron, should have had our Jeep. Wine tasting inside with air conditioning or on the patio with misters. Fortunately they no longer have the geese mentioned in the 2011 yelp review. Nice view and nice owners/ hosts. A few snack items available for purchase (individual bags of nuts, etc.), as well as souvenir t shirts and hats . Wish they would invest in a small machine to offer espresso for sale for non drinkers. To be fair, none of us have yet visited any other wineries in this area of AZ, but the handful of Sonoma California wineries visited recently had complimentary crackers to cleanse your palate between tastings, some also offered cheese. read more

I used to live in Arizona and while out from Illinois visiting friends we decided it would be fun to go wine tasting on a Sunday afternoon. There were only a couple wineries in the Tucson/Vail area open past 2pm on a Sunday and Charron was one of them. So glad we chose to go there as the views were beautiful, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable, the cost was a very reasonable $8 for six samples including the souvenir wine glass, and the wine itself was quite good. All three bottles I bought made it back home safely packed in "wine wings", so I'm excited to share my AZ wine with friends and family. If you are in the Vail area and like wine, this should be a must stop for you!! It rivals some of the California wines so you may just be surprised. read more

If you're looking to catch COVID-19 this is the spot for you! The female winemakers/waitress was proud of the fact she was not wearing a mask, telling customers she didn't understand the fuss when only 5 percent of the population is affected. Is she not aware that she may be speaking to that 5 percent, or those customers may have elderly parents who fall within this 5 percent? Very cold! This is a review covering the entire experience at Charron. I would not put the wine in the category of "as good as it gets" per the Yelp 5-star standard, but Charron has the BEST view of any winery in this area, great people working there, a nice tasting room and wines that are certainly in the top tier. (So, if I could, I would rate it 4.5 stars.) Don't pass this up on the way to Sonoita and Elgin tasting rooms and vineyards, which is easy to do. Look for their sign on 83 and make the trek down a bumpy dirt road and you will be rewarded with a great experience. You may decide to just stay and go no further! I should add, they are very pet friendly here. There's a nice big porch overlooking some great Santa Rita Mountain scenery, so plenty of room to accommodate a (well-behaved) dog. read more

Would go back to enjoy another tasting or glass of wine. You can also get some snacks while you are there but I didn't think for the price and what you get its worth it but overall a great experience. read more

GREAT experience!! I went for wine tasting yesterday afternoon with my boyfriend. I hadn't heard of Charron yet, but we found a LivingSocial deal so we gave it a shot. We got to try 6 different wines of our choice, followed by a glass of our favorite. You pick where you want to sit out on their deck, and they are full-service so they bring the tastings out to you. The views are fantastic also. I packed some cheese and crackers and fruit to enjoy with our wine, and we relaxed and watched the sunset over the mountains. Even without the coupon, their prices are very reasonable, and the staff was very friendly and informative. The owners were walking around greeting the regulars and asking everyone how they were doing. We were very impressed with the wine as well, and we couldn't leave without taking 2 bottles home with us :) we got to keep our souvenir glasses as well. We will be back!! read more

Stumbled on this place by accident on the way to Sonoita. Glad we stopped! Not as many wines on the tasting menu, but everything was still delicious. I enjoyed the balance of options.Loved the Cabernet and Empire White. Tasting was 7 dollars foe 5-6 wines including the glass to keep.The views were great and they have a lovely patio where you can enjoy your picnic. We really enjoyed our visit. They now have food in "picnic baskets" (boxes). While it is packaged meats, cheeses, etc., it was good. Their covered deck and view to the vineyard along with table service set it apart from many of the others. It's also closer than most others to Tucson or Green Valley. We called at 5:30pm and asked if we could come near closing time. She said "yes, that's fine, around 6ish" on the phone. We nearly broke our suspensions on the hill to make it to their winery and arrived at 6:06pm. She said they were closed and just shook her head when we said we called in advance. We don't have a problem with closing on time- but REALLY wish that she had stuck to her word or that she had just made it clear on the phone that coming after closing would not work. Two stars for how pretty the outdoor area was - but overall disappointed, will not be revisiting. read more

Driveway was a bit dicey for our low clearance hatchback, but we got there just fine. Views were awesome, locale was both rustic and chic at the same time. They had 10 local wines on hand, 6 you can choose in a tasting. The staff was not only pleasant but very knowledgeable about the wines on hand. Good mix all around of dry and sweet. While we didn't sample any of the meat and cheese selections, we were glad to take our souvenir glass home with us. read more
