Them lady started mopping with overwhelming product smell. WAY TOO MANY FLIES I SIDE. There was absolutely no warmth, personality, service to even mention. Positives... On the road this afternoon headed for a ballgame in Tahlequah and the urge for a quick bite hit us out on I-40. Hoping to find a Braum's to scratch that burger itch we were on watch. But a Google search from my copilot scored this fabulous find! I was prepared for chicken. That's the name of the place so my stomach is thinking maybe a sandwich because, well, I'm driving. But this place is a wonderful little gem with a much larger menu. Ribs, chicken fried steak, chicken, chopped beef, wow, just such a selection! The fat kid in me was so happy (also the fat man which is more accurate). Copilot had the chicken fried steak with mashed taters, white gravy, and green beans. I ordered up the chopped beef sandwich on Texas toast with potato wedges. I'll add here that we also picked up one of the largest peanut butter cookies I've seen. Think BJ's Pizookie, huge cookie! The food was stupendous and we have saved the cookie because we were just too full. If you are ever in Checotah, this is a must stop. ¡Buen provecho! read more

Hey y'all... give Charlies Chicken in Checotah, OK a visit!! I have taken the family here for a quick lunch while camping at Belle Starr in Lake Eufaula... Hot August weekend before school starting back up. The ladies behind the counter were super sweet. There were four of us in my small group, but my daughter was the only catfish plate.. so she had to wait to get hers. They did bring her a fresh hot plate of her catfish order... and didn't bother to yell over the floor for her to get it. That was a plus for me... it's just that generous to do that to your patrons. If they are super busy, please be patient. Treat those who are serving you right. And don't forget to tip. It's definitely "hit or miss" with Charlie's Chicken. Sometimes the chicken is good and other times it has made me sick to my stomach. The mashed potatoes are definitely boxed and I don't recommend. The fried okra is good, the desserts can be a "toss up." I ordered a cobbler as I wanted something sweet and I was shocked to realize that there wasn't any crust. When I took the first bite I thought it was crust, but instead of crust it was a thick, crunchy layer of sugar. Thinking that maybe it was just a fluke I took another bite and realized that the whole cobbler was nothing but fruit with hard sugar as the crust. When I'm really hungry; without many options in this small town, I will grab Charlie's, but it's definitely not a destination eatery. read more

We were coming back from a trip to the Kiamichi mountains and stopped here for lunch. Our food was hot and fresh and the people were nice and friendly at the register. I was happy that we gave it a whirl! read more

Food isn't bad but it is overpriced Fried Chicken a biscuit and a side their sides not very good but the chicken is good and sometimes the biscuits are edible and not hockey pucks but for a family of 4 whenever you're spending $65 on chicken I can go to KFC and get it cheaper and I know I'm getting crap read more

We stopped in while driving from Dallas to Branson. The food was excellent. The service was very fast and friendly. We had chicken chunks, fried fish, chicken fried steak and all were great. The mashed potatoes and broccoli casserole were AMAZING. This is country comfort cooking at its best! read more

Traveling to California. Did drive through order. Hostess was unbelievably kind! Food was awesome and a lot of it! 7 pc chicken chunk dinner was more than enough for my husband and I! Even though there was no one in the parking lot or in the restaurant, the food and service was incredible! I highly recommend a stop here (and make sure you order those corn nuggets!!! ) read more

Stopped here for a quick dinner on our way through town... So glad we did! Fried chicken was awesome. The service was fast and friendly. They literally have the best house BBQ sauce I've ever had. The place was clean and pleasant, and the staff were very nice, but the food was really tasteless. We had the cornmeal fried catfish and the fried chicken, with sides of green beans, coleslaw, and baked beans. The coleslaw was the best of the lot, and the baked beans were the worst. The fish and chicken were middlin'. The pies in the cooler looked good, but we didn't try them. read more
