Charley's is located at Hamilton Place Mall in the food court area. Therefore, the best entrance is the food court entrance to the right of the book store. They usually give out free samples of sandwiches. There will be someone standing outside the restaurant with a sample plate with toothpicks stuck through them. Today they were giving out chicken buffalo sandwich samples. So, I decided to get that. Cost; was around $11 which I thought was a little high. You can get your subs in 3 different sizes which are small, regular and large. I got the regular size which was really to big for me since I got a drink and fries to go with it. Also, there was a problem about finding a table to sit at. I finally found one and it was dirty. There's also some rude people in here at the time of visiting which I don't care about going into details about. This food court gets busy on the weekend and this is not the only time I couldn't find a seat.

Now you know lunch is about to be good!!!!!

A good representation of the franchise. The food was served fresh and promptly. The flavors were good and it was a good value.

Some restaurants dabble in the deep fryer. Champy's Famous Fried Chicken treats it like a…read morecompetitive sport. Walking in, the place feels like it somehow drifted inland from a beach town. Casual, colorful, the kind of spot where you expect someone to walk in wearing flip flops and carrying a fishing pole. Comfortable vibe. Easy place to settle in and see what the fryer can do. First up were the fried green tomatoes. They came out looking like they'd just won a beauty pageant. Crispy outside, tender inside, cooked exactly right. Texture nailed. But flavor-wise they felt like they forgot their gym bag at home. Needed salt. Needed a little personality. A rare moment where the fryer did its job but the seasoning clocked out early. Then the headliner arrived. The fried chicken at Champy's Famous Fried Chicken has a reputation to protect, and thankfully it shows up ready to work. Crisp, flavorful crust. Juicy inside. The kind of chicken that crunches just enough to make everyone at the table look over and get jealous. "If the deep fryer had a Hall of Fame, Champy's chicken is getting a first-ballot vote." And then came the move that sealed the deal. A dip into Champy sauce. Suddenly the flavor level jumped another notch. Salty, tangy, just enough punch to make the crust shine even more. The sleeper hit though? The cole slaw. Creamy, balanced, and actually refreshing next to all the fried goodness. It's the quiet kid in class who ends up acing the exam. Easy to overlook, but absolutely worth ordering. Now for the tiny curveball. I happened to land there on karaoke night. And let's just say... the speakers believed they were performing at an arena concert. Loud enough that conversation required leaning halfway across the table and reading lips. On the flip side, the crowd was clearly having a blast. A few genuinely good singers, a few that were more... enthusiastic than talented, and plenty of people cheering them on. Honestly, respect to anyone with the courage to grab a microphone in a room full of strangers. So no star deductions for that. The people who showed up to sing were having the time of their lives. Bottom line, Champy's Famous Fried Chicken is a fun place with seriously good fried chicken. Order the bird, grab the slaw, lean into the fried side of the menu, and enjoy the show if karaoke happens to be on the schedule. Just maybe bring your singing voice... or your earplugs.

Unless you were there to witness it, you would have no idea what those peanuts had been through.

Popeyes was practically a staple of life when I lived in Louisiana. The lines were always long, the…read moreservice was often indifferent, but the chicken was usually worth the wait. Because of that history, I have a pretty good idea of what Popeyes should be. My wife suggested chicken for Sunday dinner, so we made a last-minute trip to the Gunbarrel Road location and ordered a 16-piece spicy family meal with three sides. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from start to finish. The first thing that struck me was the chicken's appearance. Rather than a balanced assortment of pieces, the box seemed to contain a pile of thighs, a couple of breasts, and several rather sad-looking drumsticks. The chicken was edible, but it certainly did not taste fresh. The dark color may have been partially due to the spicy seasoning, but it looked and tasted as if it had been sitting under a heat lamp for quite a while. The sides were even more disappointing. The serving sizes have clearly shrunk over the years. The mashed potatoes, red beans and rice, and coleslaw all came in containers that seemed much smaller than I remembered. The mashed potatoes were the lone bright spot. They tasted exactly as expected and were probably the best thing we ordered. The red beans and rice, however, were one of the saddest examples I have ever encountered. The container was only about three-quarters full, and the contents were bland, watery, and completely lacking the flavor that makes this side dish a Popeyes favorite. Then there was the coleslaw. It looked as though it had been sitting so long it belonged in a museum display dedicated to coleslaw. It had that glazed-over look that immediately tells you freshness is not part of the conversation. To be fair, the employees were friendly enough--certainly friendlier than some of the Popeyes locations I visited in Louisiana. We even waited a little longer because we assumed the extra time meant fresh chicken was being prepared. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Overall, this meal was simply disappointing. The chicken tasted old, the sides ranged from underwhelming to nearly tragic, and nothing about the experience would make me want to return. Judging by how quiet the restaurant was, I suspect there may be a reason for that. We will not be back.
